From the beginning bid proposal meeting to the last inspection, Paul and his crew listened to our plans, ideas, and concerns. They addressed every detail and showed experience with effective advance planning. Cleanup was also well completed.
Description of Work: Awesome! Regal Concepts built two decks, added a trellis roof, constructed 38 steps (4 staircases) and one landing for our home on a challenging steep slope. One deck is cantilevered on stilts about 20 feet high and is also supported by huge new beams. The overall rail design and deck surrounds were finished with a view to an artistic result. The 9 house stilts were also refitted with more robust connectors. Regal Concepts' dedication to high quality standards, exacting woodworking skills, professionalism, great communication and follow through are a testament to the Paul's master craftsman experience. From the most minor detail to the overall experience, Regal Concepts, came through for us.

Paul was very efficient/professional in proving the complete bid for the original job. He also managed integrating the additional work, both in getting me quotes and then getting the work done. I might have been less than organized in my approach but Paul managed to provide pretty much seamless performance. Paul always made sure work was completed and that I was satisfied with the work. An example of his attention to detail was apparent in his search for the replacement interior doors. The majority of doors in my house were a three panel design and I wanted all the doors to be the same (there were doors that were obviously replaced in the 80s or so). Paul was able to ?recreate the original three panel? at a reasonable cost by getting a single panel door and adding two dividers to make the three panels. He showed me that the edging of the molding was not quite the same (I could hardly notice the difference) but he was correct in feeling it was definitely a better route than a costly 100% custom door. I have a feeling if PAUL was to rate the job ? he would have to admit it was not a contractor?s dream job ? not a creative/beautiful kitchen or bath remodel but a simple garage remodel and then me adding a string of odd, disjointed ?fix this? jobs ? but Paul kept it moving smoothly. He was very patient with me adding all these items, was always willing to discuss things as I was still figuring things out with my new house. I LOVE my clean/efficient garage/laundry room (my neighbors are envious) and I really appreciate getting the other random items wrapped up. I will definitely use Paul and Regal Designs again AND am in a much better position to embark on a more decorative remodel. THANKS PAUL!
Description of Work: Initial contracted job was a garage remodel including – total removal of old shelving/workbench, plaster walls, new drywall, relocated two entry doors, relocating washer/dryer, painted concrete floor. I had purchased the house (built in 1938) the previous year so upon having construction guys in my house I found myself saying “gee, while you are here, maybe you could also...." I ended up ADDING quite a list to the garage job - getting whole house insulated (and the follow up patching/touch up paining to the exterior stucco Paul made sure it was done well), having a house fan installed, having a sump pump installed, replacing four interior doors (to have consistent style throughout house) and also having the electrical fixed as some circuits were overloaded (had been noted on my original inspection). I have a feeling there were probably a few other items but these were the major ones.

At first he was responsive in setting up an appointment, and he arrived for the estimate right on time. However, things went downhill from there. He assured us we'd get a bid that day or the next at the latest, and when I hadn't heard anything almost a week later, I had to contact him for the estimate. When he replied, the estimate was sent in a file I couldn't open. I *finally* received the estimate, and it was incredibly expensive compared to the other two I got (about 3 times more expensive, actually). **Update** Paul emailed after reading this review to say he'd had a death in the family, and this is the reason why he didn't respond for a while. I am sorry for his loss and understand that backed things up, but wish he would have given this as a reason at the time rather than as a reaction to a bad review. I'm glad others have found him to be a good worker and to have a fair price, but all I can base my experience on is what I saw. He still was far more expensive than his competition, and I feel that an email with an apology after this review isn't the kind of customer service I want when I'm hiring someone.

The scope of work that I bid was so much more than it states here. There were three electrical outlets being installed, two puck lights, two recessed speakers with new a connection box to connect the speakers, and a new light switch location. Running new data cable for a new television location. Since it was a two story house and this was the ground floor, all of this means a lot of drywall damage. Cutting down a masonry fireplace and rebuilding the fireplace using new stone. A custom built, full height mahogany cabinet with doors and adjustable shelving that incorporates some of the lighting. Stained and finished to be an exact match for existing furniture in the same room. Carpet replacement. Cutting and replacing base moldings Blocking in some alcoves. Drywall repair, tape and texture for all of the above. Painting of two ceilings and five walls in two different rooms. The permits required and city fees were also included. My scope of work was created by what information the homeowners gave to me, they did not have a written scope of work nor any sort of sketches. The homeowners input was all verbal. The scope of work that I sent over was detailed out to exactly what we were bidding upon. I do not believe that the other contractors are bidding the same scope of work. I did talk with the homeowner and asked her to send me the other contractor's scope of work so I could compare what I bid on versus what the lower bids were bidding on, but i did not receive this. The homeowner had the estimate sent over to them in three business days. All phone calls where returned the same day, all emails where responded to the same day or at the latest the very next day. We are competitive with all other companies, but if what we are bidding on is not the same as another contractor then the price will obviously be different. Small changes in the scope of work can mean less drywall, less painting etc, so it is important to make sure everyone is bidding on the exact same scope of work. Our goal is to provide excellent quality workmanship at a fair competitive price. I always include every cost upfront, as I do not believe in change orders nor up-selling. This creates very happy customers for life, many of whom I now consider friends. This is one of many reasons we are one of the most highly rated companies on Angie's List. All of our other reviews are testaments to how we do business. We can supply contact info for many past clients that can be testament to how we do business with our pricing and keeping to the standing by the price we originally give.

I was really impressed with the extensive work that this company recently did on my sister's home, particularly with how they seemed to have very good judgment and be very reliable and honest. That led me to finally taking the plunge to have some significant remodeling done in my home (a condominium). I wasn't sure they would want a relatively small job (although it seemed big to me!), but they were very open to doing whatever I wanted. My initial request was for a complete remodel of my master bathroom, and I soon decided to add on more, including entirely replacing all the second level's carpeted flooring with a quality hardwood, replacing the fireplace surround and hearth with one that enhanced, rather than detracted from, the unit's appearance, and finally deciding to also install the same hardwood on the stairs (which then led to the need for a new balustrade). And everything turned out beautifully! Paul (an experienced woodworker, who built the new bathroom vanity and the beautiful fireplace surround) was always available as needed and, upon my request (as I had become aware of his excellent sense of design and wide range of knowledge through the work he did for my sister), provided some extremely helpful suggestions about both aesthetic and functional options for all these projects. As I could rarely be present while the work was being done, it was very important to me to have a very trustworthy company, and I couldn't have asked for anything more than what they did (including making sure the cats didn't get out!). Paul's crew was friendly and very professional, and also provided helpful explanations and suggestions when I asked; they all take pride in and responsibility for their work. Largely as a function of me not being around when the work was being done, a couple of mistakes were made that needed to be fixed, and Paul always responded to fix the problem; this company takes customer satisfaction very seriously. For example, they did a wonderful job replacing a foldable attic door that had started sagging--except that we later discovered that the new door was narrower and wasn't wide enough to allow the attic-based water heater to be removed, so Paul had his crew replace the door and did not charge me. Estimates for work were always provided in advance, and Paul was willing to explain whenever it wasn't clear exactly what was or wasn't included. If you are looking to get the job done as cheaply as possible, this company is not for you. But if you are willing to pay more than bargain basement prices in exchange for competence, thoroughness, professionalism, and honesty, this could be the company you want.
Description of Work: Full remodel of master bathroom, building fireplace surround and hearth, installation of wood flooring, replacing carpeted stairs with wood flooring, and installation of custom-built-balustrade. Also some miscellaneous work (e.g., replacing attic door, repairing water-damaged wall).

He is very fair and the price is really reasonable. We were very pleased with their work. The only possible complaint I may have would be that they are usually a little off in their estimate on the timing of the work. If they tell you will take two months to finish the work, it will probably take three. It isn't really their fault as they can't account for problems that may come up along the way. I was still really happy with the experience.

Description of Work: Entire Home Remodel. Complete kitchen and dining room redesigned to a great room. Demolition of kitchen, dining room bedrooms and baths. Major reconstruction of walls involving new wall framing and design. All drywall removed with only two by fours remaining. All new doors including rough framing. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. Having been through the home remodel experience previously, we were prepared for the worse. In just a few days of Regal Concepts starting the work we realized how delighted we were in having selected Regal Concepts. Paul and his small crew were professional and each one took great pride in his work. Paul was quick to respond to emails and phone calls (even when he was on his honeymoon and out of the country!). Paul was very receptive when we informed him we wanted to use a flooring contractor to replace the flooring. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and with all of the work completed by Regal Concepts. We would highly recommend this company based on quality, pricing, and responsiveness. We would use Regal Concepts again without hesitation.
Description of Work: We experienced a water leak that damaged a wall, the floors, some of the cabinets and the countertops of our kitchen. With our kitchen partially destroyed we decided to update the kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, appliances and flooring. We interviewed several contractors for this job and ultimately selected Regal Concepts. The work completed included replacement of all of the cabinets with custom-made cabinets, some electrical repairs, new granite countertops, installation of new appliances, sink, garbage disposal and faucet, and moving a wall over 12 inches.

I am so happy with the end result that I have recommended him to atleast 10 of my friends and family and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: I used Regal Concepts & Designs to remodel my kitchen and two bathrooms, in my Craftsman home. I have used other contractors in my past, which didn't go well. However with Paul and his crew... well let's just say they are true professionals. From the start, I could tell Paul's vast experience and training in Europe could be seen in his designs and details. Paul's design ideas were so much better than my own! My kitchen has so much more usable space than before, which was what I needed.

Regal Concepts, and especially Paul Little, demonstrated a sincere passion for the job. Our thoughts and concerns were thoughtfully considered, and when we did jointly come up with a plan, we had a high level of confidence that our expectations would be met. During the project, workers got to the job site on time. They did their job without being disruptive to our family or neighbors. They cleaned up after themselves. When the materials arrived, you could tell that Regal Concepts took the time to prepare things right and with care. Start to finish, our project took a little over a month to complete. During that time, our household was able to continue to function and we could see our ideas come to life before our eyes. After the job was done, Paul took special care to ensure our goals were met, coming back to the job (cheerfully) to address minor adjustments. We couldn't be happier with our new library.
Description of Work: We have a room addition in which we wanted to create a library and I had a vision of what I wanted for bookshelves. I had a few companies in to bid on the job. Each company said they did custom woodwork - but in reality, most companies were only able to provide specific size modular cabinets that had limited options. Only Regal Concepts and Designs was truly custom and able to create a library that surpassed my vision. Paul is creative, listened to exactly what I wanted and provided several drawing options. We discussed stain color in depth since I had a specific wood color that I wanted, and Paul provided several samples of custom stain to achieve the wood color my husband and I wanted. It is evident that Paul takes pride in his work and he made certain that we were happy with the results before completing the project. The result - we LOVE it!!!!!!! My husband and I have recommended Paul to friends and will certainly use him again for any future home remodeling.

We have been completely satisfied with Paul and his crew at Regal Concepts, and recommend them highly to everyone we know. We first met Paul while looking for a contractor to remodel our bathroom and do some needed home repairs, and were immediately impressed with his extensive knowledge of home remodeling and construction, his skills as a wood craftsman, and his suggestions for remodeling. When we decided to undertake a more extensive remodel, we worked with Paul and an architect he recommended to come up with a plan for an interior/exterior remodel that would great improve the functionality and aesthetic appeal of our home, and Paul and his team carried out the remodel. It was a highly interactive process, with constant communication; Paul always responded to our phone calls and emails very quickly, and updated us on a regular basis. We were particularly impressed by how he would present several alternatives for most situations, describing pros and cons and covering a range of budgetary options. We had originally considered hiring an interior designer, but decided that this was unnecessary, due to Paul's excellent eye for design. Paul's team was great, and has been working with him for years - we especially enjoyed working with Arcadio (who seems to know how to do everything, from fine woodwork to plumbing/electrical work to roofing) and Carlos, who is an expert tile installer. The quality of the work, and in particular the wood cabinets/moldings and tile, is really outstanding, and whenever we raised a question about something or requested a minor modification, it was quickly addressed. Although we started the project with a focus on the interior remodel, we were so happy with Regal's work that we kept adding projects, including the front porch addition and the stone patio - and then we decided we might as well have Regal repair our falling-apart garage. Detailed price quotes were always provided, and Paul coordinated all permitting with the architect and oversaw meetings with inspectors. The complete project took exactly one year from start to finish; three to four months had been estimated for the initial interior remodel, and that was a fairly accurate estimate. When we tell people we remodeled ourhome, we often hear horror stories about their experiences with contractors - but that was the opposite of our experience. We can't imagine a better contractor/team than Paul & Regal. Paul and his team were hard-working, extremely pleasant, responsive, skilled, helpful, and honest. You could probably find someone to do the work cheaper, but we thought the cost was extremely reasonable for what we got. You definitely get your money's worth with Paul & Regal, and you will actually enjoy the remodeling experience (at least as much as that's possible!).
Description of Work: Complete interior/exterior architect-designed home remodel of 1940s bungalow, including bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, home office, walk-in closet, and laundry room (excluding kitchen cabinetry, which had been recently installed by another company). Included addition of square footage to master and guest bedrooms, moving of some interior walls, installation of cathedral ceilings in master bed/bath, and roof modification/replacement. Replaced all interior/exterior doors and windows, hand-textured and painted all interior walls, installed new central heat/air conditioning system, and repaired pre-existing problems with house construction. Added front porch and large stone back patio with pergola, spa, and firepit. Complete interior/exterior remodel of free-standing garage. All work custom, including hand-built cherry cabinets, bookcases, and office desk, craftsman molding throughout the house, hickory flooring, travertine shower and flooring, glass mosaic shower and porcelain tile flooring, walk-in closet, patio, porch, and slate firepit.

I have a small old house in South Park with a small white galley kitchen and white appliances....Needless to say, although the white helps make the room look bigger, it was too white and needed some color, so I bought varigated blue/clear/gray pencil style glass tiles for a backsplash @ Home Depot but needed someone to install them. Regal Design Concepts, as well as a 3 others, were recommended. Paul called me immediately, and we set an appt convenient with my work schedule. He was punctual and had great advice for my questions as to how high the backsplash should go, etc and gave me a fair price. He even made suggestions as to how to hide a big electrical strip in the drywall so I could put backsplash on the side wall that I assumed I could'nt do. He took all the measurements and then called me back that evening to let me know exactly how long it would take, that he could start immediately, that I would need for tile than I bought, and gave me a choice of going to get tile and the right grout or having his tile man, Carlos, get it and bring grout samples. I was able to get him all the materials myself before Monday morning. I work early, so I was able to leave the key for Paul and his crew until the work was complete. That first afternoon I came home and met with Carlos, who had appled much of the tile. It gave me a nice visual as to how high I wanted to go with it. Carlos then made some design suggestions for the edging that I took into consideration, and it turned out great in addition to being able to tile the side wall becasue he buried that electrical strip. Carlos even reset some loose ceramic floor tiles under the cabinetry (installed 8 yrs ago) and replaced my 4 cracked saltillo pavers in the walkway to the front door. It was nice to know that no job is too small, and also it was nice to come home to a clean space each day. As soon as I am ready, I will call Paul again for other projects I have in store. He and Carlos are a pleasure to work with.

Best kitchen in the neighborhood from both a functionality and ascetics standpoint. Paul worked patiently with us to get every detail of the design we wanted, in a relatively small space. Construction went smooth and they were there consistently until the job was done. Timing of some of the sub-contractors took a little longer than expected and an ice maker needed to be re-installed. Not the cheapest but worth the price. Renovation was completed in 4 months and we have a FANTASTIC and BEAUTIFUL kitchen we enjoy every day!!!
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel (design and installation) of a 1914 craftsman home with a gourmet kitchen including wet bar, 2 refrigerators, pot filler over the stove, and eat-in kitchen space including hide-away TV. All electrical, gas, cable and plumbing gutted and re- located.Custom cherry cabinets with pull-out drawers and range hood which utilized every square inch of space. Solid granite counter tops and ivory, marble tile, subway-pattern backsplash. Built 12 ft custom buffet in adjacent dinning room with build in wine refrigs and cherry cabinets to match kitchen. They were punctual, professional and showed up on time. It’s kind of a rarity with contractors, but these days contractors are honored; so they actually show up. They did a thorough estimate and it wasn’t a price issue with them; it was just that the job was some conceal damage which was a construction job but there was some conceal issues. It wasn’t a very easy project to deal with; so I decided to go with the contractor I had a relationship already. I think they are solid company who would do the job for you.

This is the third project that I've used Paul and his crew for. Once again the job went as planned and I'm completely satisfied with the work done. Paul helps with the design and gives helpful suggestions not only to save on costs but also insight in aesthetics. His crew are one time, respectful and completely professional. They demolished the closets in my master bedroom with minimal intrusion. Some problems were encountered with making door thresholds fit the custom doors, which Paul accommodated without issue. The bookshelf also had to be changed in the middle of the job due to a sloping ceiling that caused some aesthetic issues. We were able to work it out and it looks great. The crawlspace he created is very functional and has given me the storage space that my neighbors envy. The patio work was also done with minimal intrusion. His team made a temporary door in the fencing in an effort to eliminate the need to move material through the home. If you have any remodeling job, I would suggest at least a consult with Regal Concepts & Designs.
Description of Work: Closet design & remodel: Provided design options of closets, demo of closets, material order, install of cedar planks along the back walls of master closet, install of cedar shelving, install of trim and hardware, complete paint. The master required reshaping of the door thresholds which they did in order to fit the custom doors. Guest closet: Design options, material order, demo, install of maple style melamine shelving, and complete paint. The threshold of the guest required three eight foot doors and a tracking system allowing all doors to slide independently. They finished the maple doors and installed them perfectly with the tracking system. Bookshelf: Design options of bookshelf, order of materials, complete fabrication, staining and install. Development of large crawl space: Altered unused crawl space (approx. 120sqft) to a usable storage area. Made large entrance w/door, re-routed plumbing to maximize usable area, leveled ground and installed brick flooring, covered remaining dirt to eliminate dust. Patio: Design options of paver flooring, removal of brick (eventually re-used in crawl space) and two trees, preparing and leveling of ground with appropriate slope for drainage, ordering material and install including central circular design with pavers, and install of gas line.

Estimated how much a full kitchen remodel would cost. Went fairly well, my wife's only concern was that she didn't have enough feedback from the representative.

Contacted him via phone, able to come over within a day or two. Very professional, pleasant, and seemed very knowledgeable. I felt like I would get top-of-the-line, custom quality products. However, he gave limited feedback about my project (when discussing feasability and recommendations) + estimate ended up over $7000 more than the others I was considering. (Project cost about $10K.) Note: I was interested in someone who not only could provide a top-quality product, but was going to be a collaborator in the decisions about the project (since it was among the first projects in this home).
Description of Work: Received in house estimate for doors and cabinetry.

Paul Lyttle is not only a knowledgeable professional, but a true artisan of woodworking. We still live in Iowa while Paul and his crew at Regal Concepts and Designs are working on our home in Escondido, CA. He keeps in touch by phone and e-mail, sending us pictures of their work and ensuring that we are part of any decision. One of the things I valued most about Paul is his way of providing insight on what works and what looks good, while valuing our input and giving us what we want --- really even better. If you want someone who is super trustworthy, has great taste and ideas, and superb skills, Paul Lyttle at Regal Designs & Concepts is who you want to do your work.
Description of Work: Our work is still in progress. Paul Lyttle and his crew at Regal Concepts and Designs are doing a wonderful job of totally redoing all three of our bathrooms at our home in Escondido, CA. He is also putting in new floors, replacing doors, taking down a partial wall, and adding another. Redoing our kitchen is next on the list.

The kitchen remodel was a great experience and that was due to Paul and his crew. Paul is always on time and returns calls in a timely manner. The estimate was accurate and less expensive than other contractors. Paul and his team are all highly skilled and the work is of high quality. This is my first kitchen remodel and I relied heavily on Paul for design considerations as well as material. He is easy to work with and gives great advice.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel: demolition, plumbing and electric, cabinet installation; countertop, backsplash, and tile installation; cabinet and appliance install.

My nondescript ranch style home was transformed into a light-filled, Tuscan Villa. Paul delivered a truly custom design with many architectural features. We had asked for a portico and we received a porte cochere. What is a porte cochere, we asked? Well, it went beyond our request for a portico and became a veranda, much to our delight. Paul and his architect, Jan, are well worth the money -- along with his highly skilled and wonderful crew. What stands out most about him is his master craftsmanship, as well as his artistic design capabilities. With most remodelers, especially the most well known, there are many different players: the designer, the architect, the salesman, the crew, the project leader, etc. etc. Regal Concepts and Design really do take out the middlemen. Therefore, you reap the benefits.
Description of Work: New addition: 490 square foot of added space comprising office, grand foyer, new staircase and portico with porte cochere, as well as a new Existing interior work consisted of new wall to wall sliders in LR/DR. Demolishing fireplace and rebuilding it on a different wall, as well as demolishing DR walls and defining the newly opened space with expansive arches and columns on two sides. Remodeling existing bathroom and adding shower. Installation of new crown moulding, base moulding and window and door casing throughout the existing main floor including master bedroom, as well asNew hardwood and travertine tile floors.

Very smooth from first meeting to final work. we had great commuication, almost daily either by phone, email or text, considering I live in Las Vegas and Regal Concepts is in San Diego I think this is great. the tenants were expecting quests from out of state the 3rd of October and they were a concerned that the remodel I wanted to do wouldn't be done in time. I was in touch with our tenants on a twice weekly basis who informed me the work was coming along as planned the workers were professional, courteous, and clean. I choose Regal Concepts, out of 3 other companies, I am very happy with Paul Lyttle and his company an plan to us them again for more remodeling.
Description of Work: We have a rental in SanTee San Diego, we needed the kitchen cabinets resurfaced and some cabinets built, the popcorn ceiling repaired, the kitchen island moved, plumbing and electrical for the island installed on the wall, a new door put in, new flooring in the kitchen and granite countertops, hook up of new stove and fan, install cam lighting. Master bath: new tub installed , took out old one, new 12" tile with mosaic design around tub, new faucets and new greenwall behind the tile. Spare bath: regrouted the exsisting ceramic tile, looks like new.

We bought this house and where also paying for another home, so we wanted to get in as soon as possible. The owner Paul and his crew where absolutely excellent about accommodating us with this. We always knew what was going on, and if there was a delay, no matter what the reason they came in a worked over weekends and at nights to make up the time. We quickly realised once we got going that we knew very little to nothing about colors, materials and finishes. Paul was able to advise us and help with all of our selections. He also did the lay out for our new kitchen and all of the bathrooms. We had a budget for a interior designer but just put that money to other use. Paul was always available by phone when we needed to talk with him and for us this was important We were delighted with the finished product, and will use Paul in the future.
Description of Work: Bought our new house, it needed a lot of work so we gutted it down to the bare walls in a lot of areas We added a new bedroom and bathroom to the home. We remodeled two existing bathrooms and a kitchen. New drywall, paint and carpets. Installed a new staircase and front entrance. Tore down and re-built a deck. Upgraded our electric panel.

It went great, this was second time using this company, Paul helped us with the designs, plans and permits. His crew did a great job of keeping the site clean and organized. The project was on schedule and came in on budget. The attention to detail was excellent, all of the workmanship was of the highest quality. We would definitely recommend Paul to anyone.
