Robert and his crew were extremely professional in both their service and quality of work. His detailed estimates were very welcome considering the other bids we had gotten. They successfully were able to remove our existing sinks and faucets and reuse them with the new counter-top. Robert visited the site each day and/or called with an update if we weren't available. I'd highly recommend them, and look forward to doing more work with them in the future.
Description of Work: We had our master bedroom de-"popcorned" and repainted. In addition, we had our master bath repainted, a new granite counter-top installed and a custom glass door created. There were also minor repairs to the tiles in the shower area.
I called Robert on Monday, Presidents Day. Surprisingly he answered the phone on a holiday and made an appt. for that afternoon. I was floored w/ his responsiveness! He arrived on time, spent an hour with me discussing what I wanted and said he would e-mail me a quote by Sunday. I received the quote a couple days earlier. I sent the requested deposit, he ordered the windows and he scheduled a day to install. Unfortuneatly, rain postponed the job but, as soon as dry weather appeared, he came the next day. He arrived early with his assistant Roberto and they had the windows installed by the time I got home from work. He came back the next morning for the finishing work and was finished by 10 a.m. The windows are beautiful! The finish work, perfect! You would of never have known he was here since he cleaned up impeccably I can not recommend Sappo enough! He's personable, efficient, talented and professional. I am now looking around my house for somthing else I can have him do!
Description of Work: Custom sized windows installed into a bedroom wall: interior/exterior wall cut open, framed for custom sized windows (3), framed, sealed and electrical wire re-located.

In researching Angie's List for a contractor, I found Robert Sappo Construction and contacted them among a few others. Robert was quick to respond and offered me a quote via email. Upon gathering my quotes, I proceeded to have Robert come to the job-site to solidify the price. I felt that Robert's quote was great and felt very comfortable with him upon our initial meeting. When I was ready to proceed, I asked Robert for a contract and he sent them to me via US mail. The quote and the contracted price were the same. Due to my busy schedule, I asked Robert if I could leave a key for his workers under the front door mat. The team entered and left the house at their will; they were efficient and clean. If they had questions about the job, they would send me text messages to verify options (i.e. tile pattern and installation wishes). They sent pictures via cell phones, so I could confirm. The job took two days and they did a great job! Robert called me a few days later to check with me how his crew performed. He also wanted to perform a final walk-through of the job. I really appreciated their professionalism especially since I was never at the site during the process.
Description of Work: Demolition of existing ceramic tiles and concrete backer board in the shower/tub enclosure area. Haul away job related desbris. Supply and install new backer-board and seal all seams with waterproofing membrane. Install approximately 70-sq feet of self-spacing ceramic tiles and bullnose that I supplied. Grout all of the newly tiles surfaces.

As stated above, it went very well and I will use Robert for any future handyman jobs.
Description of Work: I had purchased a new washer/dryer combo and my utility closet would not accomodate the dryer vent. Robert converted the dryer from a back vent to a side vent (per the manufacturer's instructions) and then reconnected it to my existing vent system. He also installed an access panel to enable future repairs/maintenance on the dryer and cleaned out my dryer vents. Overall I was very pleased with Robert's professionalism and resourcefulness.

When I first called Robert he was very busy after taking some time off. He was honest about the time frame that he could get our project done and once an appt was made he did have to change it once to accomodate a client that needed work done before a projected rain - so instead of getting the job done on Monday - it got done on Tuesday which was OK with us. He showed up on time - we went through the work that was supposed to be done and we even added another safety bar installation that was not on the original proposal and that was OK with Robert so he just added it to the invoice. He went over with me how I wanted to have the safety bars angled - something I did not consider - which was very helpful. He had the entire job done and cleaned up in about 5 hours. The work area was cleaned up very well - he even vaccumed the bookcase in the bedroom which got dusty from breaking up the old tile. Robert and his assistant were very professional and I would not hesitate to hire him to do work in our house again.
Description of Work: We had the master bathroom shower floor tile removed and replaced and safety bars installed in that shower as well as the guest bathroom shower/tub. Robert also repaired a shower tile and regrouted around a few tiles.

Sappo Construction was hired in late fall to complete an extensive kitchen remodel. Our newly purchased home was built in 1962 and was in need of updating, especially the kitchen and dining area. We had to remove walls to open up a closed space and add to the flow of the home. Robert took time to explain and educate us on California ordinances and walk us through the bid until we were comfortable with the proposal. Demolition began and there was no turning back! Our project took us through the holiday season and Robert (owner) worked with us so at no time were we without comforts of home. We successfully entertained 20 people over a two-week period during construction. Robert and Roberto were prompt polite, I the woman of the house and I felt comfortable and respected through the entire job, and my dog looked forward to the occasional doggy treat Robert kept in his truck! I would absolutely recommend Sappo Construction for any home repair of any size.

Robert and Roberto (his assistant) have been working on my home remodel projects over the last year. The quality of their work is nothing less than exceptional. Refinishing the fireplace, removing walls, installing tile, refinishing walls and a complete bathroom remodel are just a few of the projects they had completed for me over the last year. Robert was more than accommodating working around my tight schedule and showed up for work when he said he would. It was often difficult to say when Robert had worked on the house because he always made it a priority to cleanup any mess he had created. I would randomly find myself walking into projects he had completed without knowing he had even been at the house. From the day I met Robert I knew from his positive attitude and commitment to perfection he was the contractor for me. Every time I spoke with Robert I knew I had found a man that is doing what he loves. Robert?s estimates have always been accurate; the work described is exactly as performed. I never felt as if I didn?t have options or the work performed did not meet my standards. If anything Robert went out of his way to give me options on how to save money in the long run. As a new home owner this sort of commitment and experience is something you cannot put a price on. Robert?s keen eye and his attention to detail will only have you singing praise for the quality of the work he can accomplish. I highly recommend Robert Sappo to all of my family and friends. I know without a doubt there is no project Robert cannot complete.
Description of Work: Removed existing walls, applied smooth coat to walls, installed new electrical sockets, installed new ceiling fans, remodeled fireplace, complete bathroom remodel -(installed new tile, vanity, toilet, tub, window, drywall, mirror and fixtures), wall mounted TV and cut out drywall to conceal cables, applied medium knockdown texture to ceiling, installed new floor tile and reframed entryway.

It went very well from start to finish. He returned my call promptly, arrived on time, worked in a timely manner, and left the house cleaner then when he arrived!
Description of Work: My water heater went out and I being that I'm in an upstairs unit with my water heater in a closet next to my washer and dryer I knew this was gonna be a big job. I called several plumbers who didn't even want to touch the job, or were very expensive. So, I went back to my loyal contractor, not only did he get the job done quickly and professionally, he was less expensive then the other quotes I had received . Also when he disconnected the washer/dryer to get to the water heater, he actually cleaned the entire floor and walls from years of dust and dryer lint and cleaned out the water heater pan! How could you ask for more than that! I was also worried about getting water or dirt on my wood floors, but you couldn't tell that anyone had even been here. Except for how clean everything was left. :) I couldn't be more pleased!

Overall a great experience. Robert was easy to get along with and very professional. Always on time, budget never varied, no add ons or pressure before during or after the job to do more. We had to remind Robert that we owed him extra for a job we wanted, that he completed, but was not on the original proposal. I appreciated that he was always there to oversee that his subs were starting the job per our agreement. Those that were sub contracted for certain aspects of the job were also very professional and did excellent work. Can't think of anything that we were not satisfied with. We were extremely happy with the over all look of the job. Simply clean lines, laid out perfectly and done professionally. Our dog enjoyed the treats provided by Robert as well. Highly recommend Robert and we will not hesitate to use him in the future. Paul

I called Robert to get a quote for a new water heater, mine was leaking. He came the same day and provided the quote for a replacement. He let me know what type of heater he would use and that it would meet code for my area. He also informed me that others may quote lower but to be careful because they may use heaters that do not meet code in my area (Ladera Ranch). I appreciated the time he took to explain the details. His schedule was busy but, because of the leaking water, he made time to replace the heater the next afternoon. He did an excellent job, everything looks and works great. Highly Recommended.

I needed someone to install a 55" flat screen TV, cut an opening above my fireplace and cut another into an area where the stereo componets were located, hang the TV and connect the HDMI cable to the HD receiver. I found Robert Sappo' Construction in Angie's list and read how great he was with prior customers and how happy they were with his work. He stopped by and gave me an estimate. He was very nice, easy to talk to and had a great sense of humor. The estimate was very reasonable. Unfortunately for me, I had an accident and as a result could not contact Robert to perform the work as discussed until January . I called him and he remembered me. I asked him on a Monday and on such short notice if he could fit me into his schedule for that Friday since it was my day off. He did even though he had a huge job replumbing another customer's home. It worked out great. Robert and his associate Roberto came by my home and did everything that was necessary to complete this service. Robert even suggested another way to enter the cable through thestereo componet area in a way that would even be more hidden from view. I liked that. I know it seems like a small job but small jobs are important too. Robert and his associate made a great team and watching them was a pleasure. I will be calling Robert again soon to conduct other work for me. I am glad to have met him. He is very honest and I have the highest confidence that he will do great work on any job and knowing that he will complete it to my satisfaction. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that the orignial scope of work had changed so he changed my original estimate to a much lower fee than I expected. Signed by a very happy customer.

My experience with Robert could not have been better or gone smoother. I found him through Angies' List and used him based on all the glorious recommendations he has. He is very professional. He returns calls promplty. He is very patient, he answered all my questions no matter small they were. His pricing is very fair given the quality of his work. He takes his time with his job and he never makes you feel rushed. When I informed him that we were going to use him to install the new fixtures, etc in our bathroom, he gave me a time frame of when he would be available. However, he happened to have a opening on Christmas Eve Day and called to see if we were available. We jumped as the chance of getting it done sooner but informed him that he would have to stop around 4pm because we were having company later that evening. He said no problem, and started that morning and was finished in time before our company arrived. He left the bathroom completely clean. You would have never known that the contractor had just left. It was great to have a working powder room for our guest on Christmas Eve. He came back a couple of days later to install the bathroom fan and complete the drywall on the ceiling. I cannot say enough on how professional and honest he is. You can tell that he takes a lot of pride in what he does. My husband and I were very happy with his work. If I could give him an A+ I would. I have recommended him to my friends and plan on using him in the future.
Description of Work: He removed the existing hot & cold water valves. Supplied and installed 3 new valves with angle stops. One for the toilet and two for the sink. Installed a pedestal sink, faucet, and pop-up drain. Installed new p-traps, drain lines, water feed tubes, and all related under the counter plumbing which was supplied by him. Removed existing towel and toilet paper holders. Installed new towel bar and toilet paper holder. Repaired nail holes and drywall damaged and paint. Removed existing mirror and replaced with new one. Removed existing wall light and replaced with new one. Removed and replaced bathroom fan and repaired drywall on ceiling.

Robert said, "If anything is broken, it can be fixed." And that's what he did. Creatively, he put pre-painted wood supports into the window, next to the metal frame. This enabled him to drill into the new wood frame. He patched up the torn dry wall, too. It looks like new, and those shutters are going anywhere! I felt Robert was quite professional from the time of our first call until he left, leaving everything spotless. He always returned calls, and called to let me know exactly when he'd be here. Here's something I noticed, too. His truck is super clean, neat and organized. His tools were clean, wires wrapped perfectly, has containers for nails, etc. VERY ORGANIZED. Details like that exemplify the details in his work. He really is first class. I will definitely use him for any future job, big or small. I'm thinking about remodeling my kitchen, and Robert is the person I'll call first.
Description of Work: My plantation shutters (living room), were obviously installed seven years ago the wrong way. As a result, the entire shutter frame pulled from the wall. Robert explained to me that they drilled nails into metal, where they bent, and weren't really being supported from the start. In fact, they were simply hanging on, without any support.

Like I said above, great experience.
Description of Work: Got Robert's name from Angie's List... definitely a good recommendation. We talked about a variety of issues with the house we just bought. He gave estimates for two of the projects and quickly scheduled the first. He personally did the drywall work, and 2 other fellows sprayed the finish coat. Quick, clean, and beautiful work. The next steps will be done in the next few weeks, partly dependent on our budget. Good man, good job.
The demolition and some digging to expose the sewer line around the toilet that was to be moved exposed old cast iron pipes inside the wall, including both the sewer pipes and vents that had to be replaced and moved in order to move the wall. I had replaced the water supply side from outside as far as the water heater but the reminder of the water inlet pipes were exposed in the slab. Robert didn't know if he could sucessfully cut the sewer line or if it would crumble when trying. I had to make a decision whether to try and connect to the old pipes, or trench and rip it all out, then run a new sewer line & inlet pipes. I had four different plumbers look at it with 3 quotes on redoing the supply lines and sewer line all the way out to the street. I went with one that eventually ended up replacing it all so he didn't have to move the toilet, just rebuild the wall. I'm going to put that part in another report. This all started 1 1/2 weeks before Robert was due to leave on his honeymoon but this seemed pretty straight forward I had originally assumed this was plenty of time to finish. After the plumbers finished and Robert returned from his honeymoon they got started on putting the new wall in making room for a bigger shower. They hot mopped a new shower base, tiled the show and floor with porcelain tile & tumbled marble accents I picked out. They built a shower niche and a couple of shelves out of travertine. The tile looks beautiful with large 12" tiles on the walls and 18" tiles on the floor. The grout lines are small (.125 maybe) and they used they ground the edges of the 12" tiles to make bull nosed pieces for the edges. He put a new fan with light I bought inside the shower which worked out great. I have a light of the mirror & sink and a the separate on with fan in the shower all on their own switch. They installed a frame less shower door that was cut to fit the opening exactly and opens both in or out allowing you to let the water drain off inside the shower. I'm happy with the bathroom including a much larger shower, lit and vented inside the shower, custom door that drains inside, and all new tile and fixtures. The tiling work looks great and I'm glad I decided to make the shower larger. Due to the extra I had to spend to replace the remaining water supply lines and entire sewer line (see different report) I have all new plumbing now. I thought Robert could have done a better job of anticipating some of this. This was a really good price if it could be done for that but with a house that was built in 1961 and not that expensively it wasn't very realistic. Some of this could have been investigated before hand and shouldn't be a surprise. I've had plumbers cut out holes in the drywall before to locate pipes and figure out where the problem. The rest of the work that was on this report looks great and I'm satisfied with it. With delays for decisions, Robert's honeymoon that was expected, waiting more me to paint, and just lead times for things like the shower door, the entire project took about 2 months from beginning to end.
Description of Work: This report is for the initial job as quoted for a bathroom remodel. This is a small master bathroom with a small shower, sink & toilet, toilet topper cabinet, floor, & mirror. I had a leak in the shower valve that did some tile damage in the bathroom behind it so I wanted to redo it completely replacing the entire shower, floor tile, and all the fixtures. The toilet was new so I kept that. When Robert looked at it initially I liked his enthusiasm. He mentioned that now was the time to increase the size of the shower and it was a sort of odd "L" shape so we took a look it but thought it push the toilet in the other bathroom too far forward and there wasn't room. Later I thought maybe we could do it part way because it seemed like we could gain 14-16 inches of shower width without a problem. The report is for to demolition of the old bathroom, moving a shower wall, cutting the the sewer line and moving a toilet in the other bathroom, remove & reinstall a cabinet in the other bathroom, replace some saltillo tiles in the other bathroom, new drywall & texture, replace valves, move a inconvenient single gang AC outlet, hot mop shower and tile shower & floor, install new fan with light, light above mirror, wall cabinet, new sink, switches for both lights & fan, and a custom cut frame less shower door. I did the painting & provided all the tile, sink, fan with light, additional light and cabinet.

Response from Robert Sappo Construction
PRICE (original a C, customer changed to a B) – The original price for the work was $8,110.00. After the demolition of the existing bathroom was completed we discovered rotted sill plates, rotted molding, and the underground copper and cast iron pipes showed very advanced signs of decay. The customer decided to have the plumbing replaced. The plumber needed to cut open the drywall in one of the bathroom walls. I did not want the wall to end up looking like it was full of patches so we removed all the drywall from that wall. We replaced all the rotted sill plates & molding. We replaced the drywall we removed and taped, spackled & textured it. We did some painting. All this was not included in the original scope of work. I sent two letters to the customer asking how he could possibly rate my company as a C on price when the final price was exactly the same as originally contracted, and we did not charge him for any of the extra work we did. I asked him to please tell me what we could have done differently to have earned an A rating in his opinion. He said he felt that the plumbing contractor did some of the work that I was contracted to do. This amounted to approximately 3 hours of labor and under $50 in material saved on my part. The extra work we completed greatly exceeded any work handled by the other contractor. Many contractors make much of their profit with the inevitable changes that are common with remodeling work. The total final cost came to $8,110.00. The customer was not charged one penny more than the original contracted price, even with all the extras included. QUALITY (originally a B, customer changed it to an A) – When I saw the B grade for quality I immediately requested that the customer send me a list outlining was not to his complete satisfaction. Instead of providing me the list he changed the grade to an A. RESPONSIVENESS (originally a B, customer chose to keep it a B) – I cannot imagine how I could have been more responsive. I either answer my phone immediately (seven days a week), or if not possible, I return my calls as soon as possible. I met with the customer many times early in the morning before he went to work and sometimes later in the evening after he returned, to go over any questions, and make sure the job was being completed exactly as he wanted. I was at the customer’s house on Saturday and Sunday. While I was in Florida, the customer called me on my wedding day to request that I speak with the plumbing contractor about some concerns of his. I called the plumber immediately. What other contractor would have even answered his phone during his wedding reception, and then taken the time to help out a customer? PUNCTUALITY (originally an A, customer chose to keep the grade an A) PROFESSIONALISM (originally a B, customer chose to keep it a B) – This is the first time I can recall in 30 years as a remodeling contractor that someone called my professionalism into question. I asked him what he felt could have been done differently to have earned an A in professionalism. I will quote his answer, “when the plumbing exceeded the scope of the original quote instead of requoting (sic) and finishing what needed to be done he gave me the names of some plumbers. He already hires subcontractors to do work such as tiling, so using his 30 years of experience to help decide on the best approach and get the best solution would be what I considered excellent”. The customer knew I was getting married in a week. I asked the customer if he wanted us to start the job before I leave for Florida, or immediately after I return. He chose to have us start. Had we not encountered the underground plumbing problems, his job would have easily been completed before I left. I could not re-quote the job before I left, never the less do the job while I was away. Rather than leaving him on his own, I recommended three different plumbing contractors, and he call a forth on his own. I did not have any better solution to offer than what the other four plumbing contractors unanimously came up with, which was replace the rotted pipes. After the re-piping was completed I immediately completed the job as soon as I returned.

The on-site work was done in about 5 hours. The large deck post was pretreated and the goods were brought to our work site. The work area was prepped and a cleaned spotless even though they needed to cut and coat additional wood pieces.
Description of Work: Mr. Sappo was professional, friendly and very knowledgable. He replaced a deck post, added earthquake support beams, and moulding around exterior door. We feel confident that the work he did for us will last for years to come. We would recommend him to any of our neighbors without hesitation. Thank You!
They were on budget, on time, tidy and very professional. This was the second time we used Sappo Construction and have used him again since this job. Robert does the job right the first time - he is proud of his work and it shows!
Description of Work: We had a water leak from the copper pipes in the ceiling of a downstairs room. Robert and his team replaced the copper piping with Pex, replaced the drywall and plastered ready for paint.
It went excellent. He's very easy to deal with, very friendly and professional. I hadn't used him before. I'd definitely use him again.
Description of Work: He did some plumbing, stucco, carpentry and painting.

Robert is a great find. He is very responsive and has excellent subcontractors working with him. Timing was crucial for me because we just moved from out of state, and had a week before our moving truck arrived. We needed to have the carpet in the bedrooms replaced, the walls painted, and a half-wall removed in the family room. I assumed the demo of the half-wall would be messy, but the guy Robert brought in was precise as a surgeon, just as he promised. He removed the wall without damaging any of the floor boards, which then allowed the flooring guys to finish/match up the lock-type floor boards. The room looks as if there was never a half-wall in there before. Robert scheduled everything precisely, and it helped us out tremendously. He's not going to offer you the lowest price out there, but you certainly get what you pay for--quality and trustworthiness. One evening he was in the neighborhood so he met me at the local Home Depot to help me choose tile for my future bathroom remodel. We are definitely happy with Robert Sappo Construction and will definitely use his services in the future.
Description of Work: We had carpet removed from 3 bedrooms, replaced with laminate wood flooring. All three bedrooms were also painted. We had a half-wall removed from the family room.

We have hired Robert before and this is his 2nd job for us. We asked him to install tile above our bath/shower. He removed the old drywall with no problem and then started his tile man(Roberto) on the main task. They did a great job. We will definitely hire him again.

What I respect most about Robert was his professionalism. He was always upfront about when he could realistically start the work and finish the work (which was a change from the other contractors I have worked with in the past - Projects that should have taken 2 weeks, turning into 2-3 months!). His communication throughout the work was impeccable: any changes or questions that came up were all run by me before any action was taken on his part and he kept all his commitments as promised. Quality of work was excellent. All I have is great things to say about Robert Sappo Construction. It brings me peace of mind to know that I have found one of the few good, honest, quality construction companies that I can rely on for future work. I know it when I see it because I worked as a kitchen designer for 10 years and have seen the full spectrum of construction companies!
Description of Work: Robert and his crew did a few projects for us: 1. Rebuilt and painted an exterior fence that was in compliance with our HOA 2. Installed some interior cabinet organizers 3. Ordered and installed 2 new Anderson sliding patio doors.
