We thought our humidifier wasn't working, but it turned out to be the thermostat. The humidifier was installed initially in a place that is now inaccessible, but it seems to be working now that the thermostat is adjusted properly.
Description of Work: Quickly identified the problems and helped reprogram our thermostats. The house is now very comfortable.

The business is a family run operation. I dealt with the son and while I liked him personally, the product and quote he offered did not seem to convince me to go with him over another local contractor, which was NES Mechanical. He came out to do the initial inspection and walk through. He caught that the system we had was on a recall list. The other people who came did not, accept for NES Mechanical. The one thing I did not have from Mclay was a chance to see their work. NES did a job down the street and not only did I get to see the final product, the homeowner allowed me to so up into their attic and see their installation...which is the most important part of the job. In the end, I decided to go with NES and have been VERY satisfied with the job they did. So much that I suggested them to my neighbor once the job was completed. After he saw the finished product, how they worked and how they left the job site each day, he bought the same system for his house and is just as satisfied. I think the biggest thing I liked about Tom at NES is that he looked at the job and suggested something that he would put in his own home.
Description of Work: I had to have my HVAC system replaced and Mclay was one of the contractors I called for a bid. The business is a local, family run operation. I dealt with the son. While I liked him, the product and quote did not seem to be as much of what I was looking for as another local contractor, NES Mechanical. In the end, I chose NES and was VERY satisfied with the job they did. So much that I suggested them to my neighbor once they were done. After he saw the job they did, the way they arrived at and left the job site each day, he ended up buying and installing a system from them, too.

I called McLay Services out for a leaky outside hose bib. The office staff was very pleasant on the phone and was able to set up my appointment so it would fit into my busy schedule. The plumber showed up in the window of time they gave me and finished the repair at a very fair price. He offered me a free plumbing inspection while he was here and found that we had a potential problem with our water heater. We decided to replace it before we came home to a flood. Their estimate included the water heater, installation and all parts, and was very reasonable. Their technician was very knowledgeable in plumbing and left my home cleaner than when he started. I also felt comfortable with him in my home which is very important to me as a mom with 2 small children. I will recommend McLay Services to my friends and family. Since they do plumbing, a/c, and heating, I will be calling them again.

Mario was great. The average consumer is so paranoid when it comes to A/C repair. He was honest and the cost for the repair was about a fifth of what I was afraid that it would be. I'm very happy with McClay.

We lease a property, and the property manager uses McLay Services for all plumbing, heating, and air conditioning issues. We are extremely impressed with this company. The company sent out a technician by the name of Randy on a couple of occasions. Randy was prompt, courteous, and extremely professional. Randy took care of all of the plumbing problems promptly and with an very good and admirable attitude towards his work (water leak behind the wall in the laundry, and a mold/water issue in the water heater closet). It was refreshing to deal with such a professional repair person. We would highly recommend this company to anyone with plumbing, heating, or air conditioning issues. The service was excellent.

They were excellent. I spent $625 the last time I used them. The last project they did was absolutely outstanding. I have used them at my old house and this house. Many of my neighbors used them also. They were fantastic and I think that their pricing was excellent. They gave me an upfront estimate of the price and it was pretty much right on.

Chad and Alan at McLay were great. They came out, installed the water softener/purifyer over a 6 hour period, and even took time to install a water faucet for us. A week or so later, we had trouble with our shower, and Chad came back out and removed and cleaned a small filter ring from inside the shower head that had been caked with the carbon (normal, until the carbon in the system settles down), and didn't even charge me! These are honest guys. We'd totally used them again.

It was very good. They were cooperative. I've used them before so I went back again. I was after versatility because it was not a straight simple job. Once or twice they were not as responsive because they had to take care of somebody else because it was July. I've known him for 30 years.

Work was done over two days. First plumber was on site within an hour the first day. Second plumber showed up at the appointed hour the second day. Both plumbers were knowledgeable, efficient and careful. The sink drain had to be dismantled and cleaned. How was I to know that Metamucil down the drain would swell up and block drain as a gel-like substance? It was a powder when I dumped it! The shower was thoroughly checked to ascertain the source of moisture that had damaged the wall and moulding adjacent. (Shower head was capped and left overnight to determine if leak was occurring inside the wall.) Checked the service main pressure and found the psi was too high, and recommended replacement of regulator. He replaced the low-flow toilet that had periodically clogged with a newer model (also low-flow) that empties more reliably. So far the new toilet has worked like a champ. I was comfortable having both workers in my home. They were professional and diligent. The estimated costs they quoted for each task was spot on. I will certainly call McLay again for future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Replaced toilet, replaced two flappers, replaced main pressure regulator, replaced main shutoff, cleared clogged kitchen sink, checked shower for leaks, replaced laundry feed hoses.

All the items were fixed quickly and to my satisifaction except the slow flowing kitchen faucet and the forced air heating unit. The faucet was taken apart and the repair man could not find or fix the problem. When he reassembled the faucet he broke an internal hard washer / ceramic cartridge. I had to send the faucet back to the manufacture for the broker part and clean out the faucet. I had to wait for 2 weeks to have the manufacture fix it under a lifetime warranty. I then reinstalled the faucet in the sink myself. This was a pain and cost money for shipping and handling fees. The repair man made three separate attempts to fix the forced air heating unit. Each time he said it was fixed by replacing a vacumn hose but the problem would come back within 20 minutes of turning on the heater. They were good about coming back and trying to fix it but it took a 4th visit for a new repair man to figure out it was a faulty thermostat not the forced air heating unit itself. The last time they were there they also detected break in the wire that went to an exterior A/C unit. They came back a few days later and spliced the broken wire quickly and the whole system now works fine. I will give McLay points for effort and staying with the job until it was fixed to my satisfaction and they did not charge me for all the separate trips or additional hours it took to diagnose the heating unit issues. It is just too bad they could not diagnose the heating problem on the first trip or fix the faucet without causing some additional damage.
Description of Work: I had slow flowing a faucet, leaking toilet flapper valve, leaking exterior hose bib, loose bathtub spout, and a forced air heating furnace that was not staying on long enough to get to the desired tempeture.

I don't know if they charged a good price or not, but it seemed reasonable to me. The service call (on a Sat.!) was $175, and $450 to install the new ducts and bathroom fan. Another fellow came on Tues. and did that work. He was done in no time, tested the system, completely cleaned up after himself and was both pleasant and professional. The furnace works fine now, and with the new ducts the AC will work better, too!
Description of Work: Dan came out on a Sat. as I was worried about the furnace acting up, not igniting, carbon monoxide, etc. He couldn't really find anything wrong with it as it was "intermittent". We mentioned that the heat didn't really seem to be getting to the back of the house, bedrooms, etc. He said one of the ducts was not attached (this may have happened when the plumbers were up there) and the other 2 were crushed. He re-attached one, gave me an estimate on replacing the other ones plus installing a new bathroom exhaust fan I had purchased. He also recommended changing the filter but he didn't have the correct size with him. We discussed some future work and he gave me an estimate on that too.

Service man very friendly and informative. Explained that it might be a good idea to have a yearly maintenance contract which would be to clean, check amps, etc. on unit and replace with new filter. On the intial call they advised that a service man would be coming between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. The service man arrived shortly after 10:00 AM. He did stress that it was important to have service a couple times a year as it may help to extend the life of the furnace. He took the time to check the age of the existing unit and found out that it was approximately 10 years old.
Description of Work: Checked filter on furnace and replaced. Replaced batteries on "on/off" dial which was the main problem. Basically a basic service call.

I had several estimates. Rob from Mclay was the only one who actually went up in the attic and walked around checking ductwork and how to do the job. He also was the most knowledgeable compared to some very experienced heating and air companies that I had bids from. I had lower prices estimated from other companies but I felt like they would be cutting corners in order to come in so low. Also, Rob who gave the estimate actually performed the installation with a crew of 2 to 3 guys. The job took 2 1/2 days. Everything was new and it fired up perfectly. The house is cool now and running much more efficiently than the old unit. Everything Mclay said they would do, they did. Everything was cleaned up perfectly after the job was finished.
Description of Work: Removed existing 3 ton heating and air including duct work. Moved new unit into the attic and installed a 4 ton Bryant 15 seer variable speed unit. Also installed all new ductwork.

They came to do 2 drains & we felt so comfortable with their work that we asked them to continued with the other problem drains. Went well, they had the tools and parts with them or close by. They worked clean, some very slight splattering -- no major after-the-job cleanup.
Description of Work: Cleaned 6 drain lines (1 kitchen, 3 bathrooms, 1 laundry, also main line to the street). In addition, changed configuration of washing machine discharge drain. Our home is 45 years old and several of the drains had not been done in maybe15 years.

We had a leak in the bathroom. 3 plumbers came out and fixed a variety of things - none of which solved the problem. The owner ultimately came out and found the source of the problem and fixed it.
Description of Work: I would like to amend my previous negative submission. Once the company heard that our issue was not fixed, the owner contacted us and came out to check it out (leak in bathroom). He found the problem and fixed it with no further charge. He was very professional and we appreciated the concern he expressed that the issue was not solved sooner.
