Joe Shulman came, gave me an estimate. I felt comfortable with him. So agreed on a priced & booked the job to start.

The company owner, Joe Shulman, came by our home within a day or two of calling for an initial roof replacement estimate. Joe was very professional and offered several helpful suggestions regarding a structural roof issue that we had. Joe explained his estimate line by line and walked us through the various options we had. After agreeing to terms, Joe's crew started within a week on the repairs. There was some additional work that needed to be completed after the old roof was torn off. We settled on an additional fixed priced amount beyond the original contract price which would cover the extraneous repairs and the extensive fascia work that we requested. The work was completed in a very timely manner and the work crew was very courteous and professional at all times. The all-in contract pricing was exactly the amount we agreed upon, and now we have a beautiful new roof. I would highly recommend Shulman Roofing based on a super positive experience.

The work was very good. The estimate was less than the final price but they found wood that needed to be replaced after they tore off the roof and had no way of knowing that needed to be done including that in the estimate at that time. They did let us know of the possibility of that happening. Overall we were pleased with the outcome.

Company sent a repair person on Friday, July 20th to do a repair to a leak in a childs nursery. The worker came and spent 1.5 hours on the roof "prepping" it for repair. When he came down he said he would need to come back on monday with his boss to complete the repair and left the roof exposed in the repair area. I said no problem and told him i would call office to get a time for them to return Monday, July 23rd. The following calls were made to Shulman roofing with no response from them.July, 20thJuly 23rd (2 calls)July 24thJuly 25thJuly 26thJuly 27th - (2 calls) "Saying if you arent coming back please tell us so we can find another vendor".July 30thJuly 31st After these deseprate attempts to get a response we finally sent an email through his website. He finally called on the evening of July 31st. Saying he decided he was uncomfortable moving forward with the repair as there was just too big a job for him. We have never felt so abused and mistreated by a service provider EVER. Why not call us when first decided he would not do the repair instead of waiting until my wife called in tears asking if he was ever going to return? If your looking for a roofer, look elswhere this is not worth the anguish or the headache. This company and Joe Shulman were as unprofessional as it gets.

Overall, everything went very well starting with the initial visit & quote from owner Joe Shulman. Joe's presentation, customer service & follow thru were excellent and also included detailed consultation with my solar panel provider related to the solar panel mounts & flashing. The actual workers were punctual, thorough and cleaned up the mess completely. The ridge vent system I had installed also looks great and will help keep my house cooler in the hot summer. I went with the 50yr GAF Timberline HD shingles and the finished roof looks fantastic.

Mr. Shulman was very professional and thorough in explaining what would be done and the cost. The roofing materials were of high quality, work was completed in the time promised and clean up was very good and done at the end of each day. I was completely satisfied.

The crew was very good about clean up and the mess was removed everyday. They started on Monday and finished up on Friday. They had to replace quite a few board in the garage and eves due to termites and dry rot. Joe was around checking on how the work was going. Was willing to work within my budget. Would recommend him to everyone. My neighbors have commented how nice the roof looked. They have asked for his number. We had a little problem getting started due to the rain at the time. Joe was here as soon as the weather was clear.

Mr. Shulman did his initial assessment using Google Earth technology via the Internet. As such, he was able to give us reliable information about the condition of our roof before his on site inspection. Shulman Roofing professionally repaired a portion of our roof surrounding the fireplace chimney which had been badly botched by another contractor. In addition to securing the roof, he greatly improved the appearance of the roof from the street by very closely matching the new roofing material to the original roof material that had been on our roof for at least 10 years. He repainted the pipe exhausts the same color of the roof and did extensive patching around them. He placed a trough behind the chimney to allow the water to appropriately drain and not accumulate. He replaced the flashing and repainted it to match our chimney. He removed an old antenna that had not been in use for any years. The work he did will add years to the life of our roof. All work was proessionally performed within a 6-8 hour period by one individual. An excellent job was performed at a very fair price. We highly recommend Shulman Roofing.

Let me first start of by saying we chose NOT to go with this company. I got a call from SHULMAN ROOFING and told them we needed the EAVES worked on. He asked about the condition of the EAVES. Then he asked if we needed a new roof. I told him he'd need to come look and tell me. I told him that my dad owned the house and if roof work needed to be done that my dad and him could speak about it.Then he said, "I wouldn't be interested in doing your EAVES wood work unless I got the whole roofing job. Is there anyway you could call your dad and ask if he wants to do the roof? "REALLY? why didn't you tell me you don't just do EAVES work in the first place instead of fishing for a roof job?Why didn't you at least offer to come out and let us know if we needed a new roof?Why be lazy and have me sell your roof job to my dad for you? very unprofessional. I can't work with lazy or unprofessional people.

Contacted Joe Shulman on 1-17 about a concern I had about our roof vent that I thought needed to be replaced. Also wanted the roof inspected to see if repairs or replacement was needed. Joe was able to send out his roofer the same day. The foreman determined that the vent did not need to be replaced, but did find some areas that needed to be repaired. Joe called me and he said he would come over later in the day and determine the cost to replace the roof. Joe submitted a report with pictures and the cost for roof replacement, but stated that I could wait another two or three years before re-roofing. I understand why Shulman Roofing has earned such high marks! Highly recommended.....

Workers, arrived on time, worked diligently, and cleaned up surrounding areas each day. Completed job on time and the price was reasonable.

Joe was very nice to deal with and I would highly recommend Shulman Roofing to anyone. They were always on time and cleaned up every day before they went home. The job took only 3 days and it looks terrific!! I felt his price was much better than the previous estimate I got .(by about $4,000+ ) I got much more for the money by getting the vents included that has definitely kept my house much cooler in the summer. My house is a 1950-60's track home without forced air. He also used top quality GAF American made shingles. The roof passed inspection the first time. I'm very happy!

We were very impressed, pleased and would definitely recommend Shulman Roofing!! I will start with the beginning. We got estimates from about 5 other roofers on Angie's List to re-roof our one-story home built in 1961, which had 2 previous roofs on it from the former owner. When Joe Shulman came over, he was very professional & knowledgeable. He brought with him roofing samples, he thoroughly inspected our roof and brought out his laptop so we could see different houses with completed roofs and also printed out an immediate estimate, which, by chance, ended up being the lowest estimate. We weren't necessarily looking for the lowest estimate but the best job & Shulman accomplished both! He also gave us a list of references. We got in touch with 3 of them and they all gave glowing reports. Also, he mentioned a house in our area he had re-roofed with the same color roofing material so we went by so we could see the job and how the color might look on our house. He also talked about proper roof ventilation, which was something we had already researched online and knew that was important. On his invoice, he indicated he would do a ridge vent. We looked it up online and this is what it said, "Years of research prove that a ridge vent with external baffles and an internal weather filter, combined with under eave venting, is the most efficient system you can install." It also said, "Works year-round," "provides evenly distributed ventilation along the entire underside of the roof" and "provides a higher volume of airflow per square foot of attic area than any other fixed-vent system." I asked Joe about it and he said that's exactly what he was installing as well as 2 dormer vents all included in the price. Also, he was the only company that brought up tarping our pool so no debris would get in it at no extra charge. We also have our A/C unit on top of our home, which needed to be moved, replace the rotted wood base with a metal one and have proper condensation drainage. He referred his A/C guy to us who also did an amazing job & reasonably priced. I will be referring him to Angie's List but his name is Robert Mittelsteadt of RPM Heating and Air Conditioning. Also, it's pretty standard that most homes will need some wood replacement, some of which you can't see until you tear off the old roof. We did need some fascia boards, eves and shiplap replaced on our home because of termite damage/age/the elements. We could visibly see that the wood did need replacing. We also requested them to primer our fascia before they put up the new wood, which they also accommodated us (I didn't see an extra line item for that). I have included the wood replacement in my total cost for the reroof, but the wood was an additional $1700 so our original estimate was $9308. He also honored his Angie's List coupon, which then reduced our re-roof by an additional $250 so it brought it down to $9058. Shulman Roofing has someone from his company onsite at all times overseeing the work. They sub out only the tear-off of the roof, but it's a sub that he has used for a long time. I stayed on site just in case and it was an amazing process to watch. All of his workers were on time, worked from about 7 a.m. to 7 pm., cleaned up after every day, were respectful, and worked together with us and they also completed the total reroof in 3 days. Shulman also handled getting all permits and signoff by the city inspector (no extra charge). We suggest you do your research, too, as one roofer was giving an Angie's List discount but jacked up the price by $6,000 then took off the coupon reducing it to 13,000 which was still $4,000 more than Shulman Roofing. We couldn't be any more pleased with our decision to choose Shulman Roofing!

It went like clockwork! The job took less than 4 days. Cleanup was excellent. Tackling the job was stressful for us but this company made it less so. Suggestion for homeowner: If you have a delicate plant, cover it with a box for protection. We would definitely recommend this company. The cost was "within the ballpark." The inspector was very happy with what he saw.

I did not hire this company.When I called no one came out to inspect the roof. He said he could see the roof on his computer. His price was the lowest of three bids I received. I went with another company that was highly recommended on your list . I would not hire anyone that could not take the time to come out and at least look at the job. I felt it was a complete lack of interest. What if something else was needed?

Couldn't get an estimate. No one called me to give me a verbal estimate based on a Google Earth view or otherwise.

They were there when they said they will be there. They did a nice job. The roof looks very nice. The cleanup they did was wonderful. Their crew was very nice. They did the work in a timely fashion.

Shulman Roofing did a professional job the whole way around. Joe provided a good estimate with excellent industry experience and background. He was available throughout the work, did a great job and was a pleasure to work with.

I liked Joe a lot and I thought he was very knowledgable and professional. I would have readily gone with him but I received a lower bid. Joe was very responsive and answered all of my questions. If I ever need roofing services again, I will certainly get a quote from Shulman Roofing.

The entire experience from initial estimate, review and modification of proposal, scheduling job and performance of work went pretty much flawlessly. Joe Shulman (owner) was very available, knowledgable, helpful, punctual and correct in his assesments and advice. The contract was straight forward and accurate and pricing was in the lower 1/3 of estimates obtained while the level of knowledge/competence was definately in the upper 25%. The actual roof demo, repair and replacement took place precisely as planned with the workers being very courteous and friendly, working hard and efficiently and cleaning up meticulously at the end of each day. The few surprises encountered (damaged rafters/broken vent pipes/sloping issues) were dealt with quickly and reasonably and without great expense. The project was completed exactly as promised and without any cost surprises at the end. Now 1 month after completion and after a couple of rain events we remain 100% satisfied. Our neighbors have commented on how nice our new roof looks and we agree. As a result of this experience my first call for any future roofing project will be to Shulman Roofing (714) 799-7157.

I have just purchased an older home that I am currently fixing up. I was concerned with the condition that my roof was in, and wanted to get it checked out by an experienced roofer to show me my options. Joe came out promptly and inspected my roof and answered all of my questions. He advised me that I did not need a new roof at this time, but gave me a very fair estimate for the future should I decide to do my roof. He had a lot of great ideas about what I could do as far as asthetics around the house. I appreciate his honesty. Most roofing companies would tell me that I do need a new roof, and would be very pushy to sell me one. He was not pushy at all, just honest and helpful. When the time comes for me to do my roof, I will definitely keep him at the top of my list of companies to consider.
