I had leaky exterior doors for years. Renewal by Anderson offered me different styles of replacement doors, showed me materials, and took care of all the fitting required of the installation, including matching interior trim and exterior stucco. Sales staff was knowledgeable and easy to communicate with; installers were skilled and careful working around my antiques. Other than costing more than average, I have nothing to complain about. It's been almost a year and I have had no problems. No more leaks and no more drafts.

The results are tremendous, the windows look great and the workers were very professional. They are worth the extra money they cost. I has a little problem with showing up on time the first day, but everything was done in the two day time period as promised. They also did a great job in cleaning up after themselves, they had plastic sheeting to protect the floors and furniture. I would highly recommend their services.

First, the installer insisted that both my wife and I be present for the hour long quote. Second, he spent all of 2 minutes measuring the doors. The entire rest of the hour was taken up with pressuring us to sign a $22K contract on the spot for 2 sets of double swing french doors. We were told we could get 10% off if we signed that night. Even though I told the estimator we would definitely not sign that night, he offered the discount at least another 4 times. No quote was given other than verbal, nothing in writing at all. From experience since then, we know his quote was over 2X the competition. I would seriously urge consumers to shop around before you give in to their high pressure sales tactics.

I saw them at a show and they gave me a twenty-five percent discount. They were very good. They were very prompt and professional. They were very neat and they cleaned up after themselves. As far as the quality of the windows goes, I got what I paid for but my husband thought they were a little bit pricey. They are very high-quality windows but it was a little bit more than what I anticipated, once it was installed. However, I am enjoying them every day, they are great, they look great on the house, and they are the right color because I have an unusual house and they are the right match. So overall, I am very, very pleased but it seems like it took a long time to get the permits but I don’t know if it is that way here in Walnut Creek. Once the windows were in, they didn’t get back to me as often to tell me what was going on with the building permits but with everything else, they were right on time and very responsive.

The product is excellent, as well was the job done by our installation team (but no guarantee that all installations are by this team). Great care taken to cover/protect interior and furniture. Efficient and informative installation team that got 24 windows and 2 sliding doors done in 3 days ? with less than an hour on the 4th day to do the final walkthrough. We had new construction installation so there was stucco breaking and hammering and nailing with some minor interior damage to plaster (repaired) and trim tile in the bathroom (a few broke and we are still looking for replacements). With new construction you need to wait a week or so for the stucco to cure and we are still in that process ? but have arranged for a painter (separate expense) to come soon to finish that part. Renewal got the building permit and the only inspection is the final that will be done after the painting ? apparently, at least in Pleasanton, the building department trust the installer and their stucco subcontractor enough that they do not do phased inspection ? but it is clear that the sealing, paper and wire under the stucco was higher quality than the original construction. Cleanup, inside and out, was excellent. Only concern I have is the price, which was high, but since I did no comparative shopping that is my fault, not Renewal?s. They do use high-pressure sales approach, pressing ?sign today discounts? so you are advised to do you research, and feel comfortable with the value proposition, before they come out to estimate. In the end, I have no regrets and am proud of what I now have in terms of new windows.

The salesman I thought was pleasant, but gave me the full sales pitch even though I knew about their products and had done replacement doors/windows twice before. Because of the custom size of my doors, they were very expensive, but Renewal by Andersen is the best of the best in quality. The service people on the phone were politely persistent and the installers were courteous, professional and did a great job of installing the doors and cleaning up. Here is where it gets interesting - they shipped the wrong French doors (they installed the other ones though), so they had to locate them which took a few weeks. Then they came back and installed the French doors, but had the wrong handle hardware and one of the locking mechanisms on one of the other doors was faulty. So they ordered new parts, installed the new handle hardware, but didn't have the new locking mechanism for the other door (the service woman apologized and admitted that she thought that all of the parts were in). So they eventually came back a last time to install the new locking mechanism. For my troubles, they paid for painters to paint where they re-stucco'd around the doors. Lastly, I took advantage of the financing they offered, but because of all of the delays, the second loan payment expired. After I spoke with the manager, she kindly gave me a discount on the price since I had to reapply for the loan. I do love my doors and all of the service people and installers were courteous and professional, but the manufacturer obviously has shipping problems.

For the first appointment then required that my wife and I both be home and give them an hour for the quote. They really emphasized about their professionalism and punctuality on the phone and in a follow up email. Nobody showed up for the appointment, no call from the company. About a week later they called after they realized they missed our appointment. Offered a small discount if we allowed them to come back out and give us a quote. They came back out and were on time this time. The sales man was nice, but at the end of the process we asked for a written quote for our records. He claimed that quote was only valid for right then and he was unable to leave a quote. If we didn't order right now we'd have to have somebody come out and repeat the entire quote process. They offered us 0 APR for 5 years in a attempt to get us to order right then. Felt like we were buying a car. There was no way that we were going to commit there and then to 20,000 plus in window work.

In 2002, we replaced all of the windows in our home at a cost of $22,000, which included several large picture windows. That work was performed by Renewal by Anderson's former affiliate/distributor Homeworks, which is no longer in business. This summer (2011) I discovered that the weatherstripping on a set of south-facing casement windows had deteriorated from sun exposure, and would crack & fragment from simply being touched. The warranty on the windows specified 10 years coverage for the non-glass parts (glass is 20 years), so I decided contact them to see if this could be repaired as we were still within the 10 year period. RbA said it could be repaired and a time to come do it was scheduled. Matt came out to perform the repair. The repair was much simpler than I expected. The weatherstripping on this kind of window looks like it is completely integrated with the window frame itself, so I was concerned that it would be difficult to repair or that the replacement would be some kind of glued on strip. It turns out the weatherstripping is a snap in/out piece that can be replaced quite easily, to my relief. I had Matt also replace the weather stripping on another set of windows that were not damaged from sun exposure, but had been chewed on by a pet. Although I wouldn't expect pet damage to be covered by warranty, all of the repair work was done completely free of charge, in approximately an hour of time. I was very happy with Matt's easy-going & can-do attitude. I gave them A's on everything with the following caveats * price -- We give an A on price for the repair work performed on this date -- warranty (and a bit extra) work done and not a cent charged. We would give a B on price for the original windows as they were a bit on the pricey side, though we have been generally happy with them. and * quality -- I gave a B here only because I would have expected window material to hold up better to sun exposure, but fortunately the repair was more or less painless. We are happy with the other quality aspects of the windows. While we don't expect to need to replace the windows again, we would be willing to hire RbA again if the need arose..
Description of Work: This report is on repairs to existing replacement windows from Renewal by Andersen company installed 9.5 years ago. The windows were installed by "Homeworks", an affiliate/distributor of RbA that is no longer in business. The repairs performed today were done by RbA's own staff from their Hayward, CA office. The repair done was to replace deteriorated weatherstripping on two sets of casement windows.

We were at an Art and Wine Festival in the summer of 2005 and met them at a booth. We had been discussing replacing the windows in the building. From the very beginning, they have a process of engaging with customers which suited the way we enjoy doing business. They have a very personal approach to business, which we appreciate. Architechually, the windows they offered us matched other details to this older 1904 building. These windows are not cheap, however the quality and appearance of the windows is exactly what we wanted. The first step is meeting with the salesman, who measures the windows and gives you a price. If the quote matches, then you pay a deposit and they will send a technician who performs the actual measurements and makes sures everything is in line for the project, as well as bringing up any potential problems that could arise while doing the installation. Next, the installation crew arrives with the windows in the truck. They replace them one by one, in a very orderly fashion. The installation crew has always been professional and great to notify us when a window didn't fit exactly (which is to be expected with an older building), but they know how to deal with these types of situations and are very knowledgeable in handling it to make it right. I really love working with Renewal by Andersen. There is one drawback I've come across in working with Renewal by Andersen. Between the salesperson and the technician, they do not have 100% knowledge of how the products work once installed in the building. For example, a few of the double-hung windows which were installed are very large, and as a result, they are very difficult to close once open. They have sent repair guys out to try to help and fix the situation, and the service men agree that the windows are too big to perform well as a double-hung style. It would have been better for us to purchase a different style of window that would work well, even being as large as they were. Also, we would have saved money by choosing a different, more simple style of window. I would definitely hire Renewal by Andersen again, even though their prices are bit a high. I can completely trust them. The quality of the products, as well as the quality of the workmanship can't be beat.
Description of Work: We did three separate window projects with them, installing all of the windows in an older, historic building we own. In total, they replaced over 40 windows.

Windows look so much more "real" than the vinyl ones we looked at. Also they were custom made to fit our house. The sales consultant knew what the building code required and would not do work without adhering to it. 1 screen arrived bent and the follow up service was scheduled before the job was finished. The installers took all steps to be sure none of my possessions were damaged and cleaned up after themselves. Sure shows what can be done when professionals are involved. Past contractors treated my house like it was just a job-site leaving debris (nails, etc.) everywhere. Sure liked dealing with professionals that have integrity for a change. While the price was higher than other bids, I believe we really got our moneys worth.

Wish all companies were as professional as they are. Did not try to sell me what they had, could order exactly what we wanted. Disaster. Job was to take 2 days 1st week of Sept. 06. Crew had to take 4 days. Finish work was so bad I could have done it better. I had 2 page list of problems. Demanded new installer. They came out, couldn't believe the poor quality, redid the trim work. Had to replace 2 of the downstairs windows twice due to defects/marring/dividers not square. Hardware color was wrong. Upstairs windows eventually were replaced THREE TIMES, measured wrong twice. Crew was never on time once in 8 months. Flashing work is terrible. Scaffold left up for a month. 4 different project managers came and went on this job. Only after a nasty letter to Andersen Company HQ did I get any action from Renewal (which is Homeworks). Only bright spot: painter they sent to repair inside/outside plaster & stucco damage caused by their installers was incredible. Pictures show just a bit of the debris they left in backyard after being told to make sure all was cleaned up. Avoid Homeworks/Kitchenworks/Renewal!

The job took over a YEAR start to finish. Step one: The windows were delivered with the wrong dividers/ wrong spacing, but installed anyway. Step 2: The trim work was a hack job. Steps 3 to 5: After several reviews and photo sessions with various field technicians they agreed it should be redone and the windows would be re-ordered. They were not anything like the agreed drawings. The second re-do was an improvement. Finally we agreed to the third attempt to get the trim right, simply because we just couldn't deal with them anymore. Each person that showed up bad-mouthed the last and they all seemed to agree the company charges a fortune. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY (The ANDERSON product is great).
Description of Work: They installed one exterior door and 2 sidelights in a vintage house. Job required fitting the door and windows into existing openings and maintaining the look of the original historic doors and windows. They sold their superior quality, professionalism, and generally a better experience than "ordinary" contractors. Sounded great! We did a second opening with a local company and they did a FANTASTIC job at half the cost!

We were incredibly unhappy with this company. Use them at your peril. Installation of doors and windows was ok. We sealed French door as advised. Later we noticed mold around hinges and at bottom. Called to complain and there was much back and forth between us and the company. They sent a few "technicians" out to look at it and concluded there was "too much moisture and heat" in our house. This was when we had a cold wet spring (yes, we did heat the house). We were also told that this was often a problem with north facing doors (door is actually east facing). We had bought the door on the promise condensation would not be an issue. It was expensive and promised to be superior quality. Maria in customer service was INCREDIBLY RUDE and offered to come and wash it with bleach solution. Did not make good on guarantee for installation or product. Sent us a pamphlet on condensation. No resolution even after I complained to Better Business Bureau.

While I am quite satisfied with the actual Renewal by Andersen windows that were installed, the overall poor customer experience and the length of time it took to complete the project were unacceptable. The sales rep and the window measurement person provided conflicting information on which types of windows would meet San Francisco regulations for egress. The work order with the city was filled out incorrectly. I placed the order in July, with a promised installation date by the end of September, but had to wait until early November for installation. Then, the wrong parts were shipped for one of the windows, delaying installation until early December. On the scheduled date for the December installation, only one person showed up (who was not from the original crew), and he didn't have any work orders to install a window. Plus, he found that the parts were, again, incorrect and needed to be reordered. The work was not completed until mid-Dec. Mgmt was not responsive.
