It went so well--the technician was Henry (Hank) and he was careful with our house, very thorough, and he didn't try to scare me by telling me I needed to buy more services. I was afraid he would say they had to charge me more for the extra work caused by the condition of my unit, but he didn't do anything like that. He covered his shoes to work in our house, he crawled all the way through our attic to fix two vents that weren't blowing any air, and he explained all the services their company offers. I will use their services every six months to keep my air conditioner working as well as it works now. He was a real reliable guy!! I'm definitely grateful.
Description of Work: I received a letter offering an air conditioner check-up for $99.00, and that they would guarantee their work.

Brent came early which was fantastic considering my AC was down and the day was projected to being the warmest day of the year! He was friendly, professional and got my system up and running in minutes. Though not the cheapest, I would hire Brent/American AC and Heating again w/o hesitation. Note: Be aware that there are several A/C firms in the Los Angeles area with the same name. This company is located in Inglewood, CA, and has offices in the San Fernando Valley (Northridge).

It seems like their workers are and quot;Commissionedand quot;, or motivated in some way to get you to do the work. I didn't use them, though I'm sure for the $$$ that they wanted the new air ducts should be made of silver or gold! To be fair, they did suggest their new duct system which .is very green, but is that worth another 7K? I don't think so, in my opinion.
Description of Work: I got an estimate for re doing my air duct ventilation system in my home. Don't get me wrong they were VERY nice and professional. BUT not nice enough to pay $7000.00 MORE than the other 2 quotes I received. I have the work being done by another company today, for $2000.00, yes that would be $7,000 LESS that their quote. They are quick to get you to do a credit application which I did and will promptly close now, but I was totally SHOCKED! I'm so glad I got 3 quotes, you never know.

I used to have a and quot;membershipand quot; with American Air from 2010-2012, for $17 a month ($204 a year) they would check my system twice a year and supposedly you get discounts when you do need service. But I started to feel that it was not worth it, and that I was getting sold overpriced or unneeded things. One filter that I paid over $300 for was a flimsy piece of plastic and cardboard that didn't even fit well. The last straw was in fall 2012 when the technician told me that my furnace was cracked all the way, was leaking dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide and I needed to have it replaced right away. Something about his manner made me dubious. He wanted me to sign a contract right away to have the furnace replaced (which is several thousand dollars); but the contract, though it stated a price, did not even state the manufacturer or model or SIZE of the furnace they wanted to install (and quot;we'll decide that later depending on the measurements of your homeand quot;); so how can I do my due diligence as a consumer and compare, and research the reliability of different furnace makes, etc? I like to do some research before spending thousands of dollars. That strikes me as very condescending to the consumer, to expect me to sign a contract without specifying what I'd be getting. So I did not sign, but decided to get opinions and estimates from a few other furnace companies instead. I hired a second heating and air conditioning company to inspect the furnace/AC. By taking it apart, he found that the coils were very clogged with cat hair; excuse me, but if American Air have been servicing this twice a year for the past 3 years AND I have bought their expensive filters (AND have been religiously performing the in-between filter cleanings recommended), how did it get to that state?? They had never cleaned out the coils in all that time? Per the other estimates I got on replacing the system, the American Air quote was WILDLY overpriced. Furthermore, I subsequently had the gas company inspect the furnace; their conclusion was and quot;there's nothing wrong with thisand quot;. I also hired an independent home inspector to inspect it for me; he measured carefully to see if it was leaking any carbon monoxide or other unwanted gases and found that it was NOT. Upon reading the YELP reviews for American Air Conditioning and heating, I noticed that several of the highly-rated reviews said basically and quot; They found that our system was leaking dangerous carbon monoxide and had to be replaced immediately, thank goodness they were able to do it right awayand quot;. It makes me wonder.

Job started on time as promised. Daily clean-up. Job completed as promised. Passed inspection first time. The only problem encountered was when the attic access door trim separated from the frame 7 fell to the floor. Technician was back the next day 7 replaced the unit. Problem was manufacturer defect, not installation. Entire system works great.
Description of Work: Remove old furnace, AC condenser, air ducts & water heater. Asbestos abatement. Relocate AC condenser from roof to side yard, relocate furnace from closet to attic. Install new programable thermostat, air ducts & registers. Upgraded attic insulation to R39. Install new 50 Gal water heater & recirculation pump.

Last week I needed a big furnace a/c system package for the main house. I checked with American Air as part of getting estimates. The salesperson quoted me a price $6000.00 higher than anyone else. When I said I was getting estimates, he first declared, "Where is your loyalty?" Then he became cold and robotlike, not wanting to "waste his time" since I was getting estimates from others. I got a great system from Around the Clock.
Description of Work: Ten years ago I bought a heating a/c split system for a back room. They service it every year.

Amazing. Their crew was so professional and knowledgeable. They kept us in the loop the entire time and let us know what was being done. What I really appreciate about them, is they didn't try to upsell us on anything, they really kept the house looking nice, and they were super friendly. They spent about 2 hours alone training my poor husband how to use the thermostat. They double checked everything, and made sure it was working perfectly. I am looking forward to seeing them for our first maintenance.

I completely forgot that I had pre-purchased this package, and the company called to remind me to use and schedule it before the date expired. I thought that was great. The tech who came out was very nice and polite. He remembered me and the system, and he was fast and courteous about the service. Even though the service was for one of the systems, he also did a quick courtesy check of the other to be sure everything was ok. I was very pleased with the professionalism and the fact that the company cared enough to be sure I received the service I purchased.

We had a service contract with this company for about 5 years at one address. When we moved we cancelled in Jan. 2012, but then started up again with an AC and quot;tune-upand quot; in June 2012. The and quot;tune-upand quot; turned into a diagnostic visit - cost of $111.83- instead of the visit included with the contract. The diagnostic visit led to a visit from the and quot;R-22and quot; speicialist to add refrigerant to unit which did not solve the problem. When this didi not fix the unit, a follow up visit resulted in nothing but a lot of inconvience to us because the serviceman arrived 4 hours late after dark, and couldn't find anything wrong. The fourth visit resulted in an effort to overcharge us again to replace a TX valve which supposedly was the and quot;real causeand quot; of the problem. At the fourth visit the serviceman flashed a page from a notebook with their cost for this service. He had three prices - regular price, contract price, and gold-contract price. Our contract price was $650. and quot; What!and quot; we cried!. We were not going to pay that kind of money on top of the $800 we had already paid. By the way - our service contract was 12.83 a month - over $150 a year. Add that cost to your service visit! We called two other companies to come out and that is when we began to realize to what extent we had been over-charged. The new company asked to see the paper work from previous visits. There wasn't any. All we were given was two-inch wide receipt, like a cash-register receipt for the first and second visits. There was no record of how much R-22 was added, no breakdown of parts and labor, no and quot;beginningand quot; and and quot;endingand quot; numbers (which I think has to do with pressure) that we were told is usually on the service report. We were told there is no such thing as a R-22 specialist. Every AC company has people certified to add R-22 to the units. We were told that R-22 should cost $35 a pound. If the maximum capacity of 6 lbs was added it should have been $210 for the R-22 and $130 labor for the second service call, unless they did something more - but there is no way of knowing without proper paperwork. ADD INSULT TO INJURY! Our service contract required us to give them access to our checking account for automatic deductions. When we asked to discontinue the contract we were told that since the second visit ($800) was a and quot;contractand quot; price we were obligated to continue the contract for 12 months after the visit, and, the time of this writing they are still taking money from our account. . NEVER sign a contract with this company! Always get a complete service report from any company you use.
Description of Work: 1st visit - came out to do a "tune-up" and made recommendations for necessary service. We were charged $111.83 for a diagnostic visit. 2nd visit - charged $800 to have an "R-22 specialist" come to put refrigerant in the unit and he did another visual inspection of the unit. However, $100 was refunded because we were "contract" 3rd visit - arrived four hours late and wanted to sell us more service! Since it was nightime when he arrived the problem could not be duplicated, because our unit only shuts itself off in the heat of the day when you need it the most. 4th visit - Finnally, arrived on-time, determined it was TXV (valve) and said they could replace it for $650!

This was a second visit from this company. 6 Months ago we hired them, based on good reviews found on Angie's List and a Groupon discount, to service our A/C/ unit. We were pleased with their work and purchased a 6 month Club membership which provided 1 heater system maintenance visit. The 2nd visit included all the services listed above plus an explanation of our current system's status and needs. Craig, our serviceman, was pleasant, on time, clean, careful and efficient. He was able to patiently and clearly explain all issues and recommendations including the Club membership options which come with a 3-month 100% return guarantee if you change your mind about the purchase plus a $100 - $150 rebate after your membership has been maintained for at least 1 year. I would freely recommend using this vendor.

On Wednesday Morning, August 24, my water heater started leaking uncontrollably. I called my home warranty provider and they referred me to USHAC and told me to expect a call back. In the meantime I turned off the water to the heater and the leaking stopped. Then I cleaned up the mess. After over an hour, I called USHAC (they hadn't yet called me), and they set an appointment to come out that day. The technician turned the water back on and the unit did not immediately start leaking again. He couldn't find a problem with the unit, but said it was obvious there had been a leak and he got permission from the warranty provider to replace the tank, but informed us that there would be extra charges to bring the system up to current codes (it was almost 10 years old). USHAC made an appointment to come out the next day to replace the tank and my husband stayed home from work to meet them. A different tech arrived this time and still the tank wasn't leaking. This tech called the manager and told him that the tank wasn't leaking and he couldn't find a problem, and the manager told him not to replace the tank (even though the repair was already authorized by the warranty company). After arguing with my husband about it, they left without replacing the tank. He was told that the parts were on the truck and we should call them directly if it started leaking again and they would come directly back out and replace it. It took until Saturday morning for the tank to start leaking again. We called USHAC directly as instructed and they referred us back to the home warranty company. We called the home warranty company and they reissued the work order, but were also confused as to why the work hadn't been done the first time. Then USHAC called back and said they couldn't replace the heater until Monday because they didn't have the parts. We turned off the water to the heater (and took pictures this time), resolved to go through a weekend without hot water. But then the heater started leaking AGAIN, even with the cold water turned off. And leaked any time any cold water was run in the house anywhere. So we had to call both USHAC and the warranty company again. USHAC sent out a tech (the original one) to reroute the water so that we would have cold water. In the meantime our plans for the day were ruined waiting for him to come out. Finally they set a replacement time for Monday morning (5 days after the original call) to replace the tank. This time I had to take the day off to wait for them to come. They showed up about noon and it took a bit over an hour to replace. The tank appears to be well installed and is running fine; but over all this repair cost us 3 days of missed work, an entire Saturday ruined for us and the tech who had to do the emergency repair, $300 cash, and a weekend with no hot water. All for something that could have been done in one day by another company.

They did a good job cleaning and tuning the furnace. But.....this company uses an aggressive door to door campaign to get in and clean furnaces. Then they use that in to try to scare you into spending $6000 to $7000 to install a new furnace. I knew my furnace was still working wonderfully as these are very simple units designed for these houses. American's representative would call me back again and again saying my furnace needed a new draft diverter but American would not fix it and assume liability.. He insisted the entire wall had to be opened up and an wall unit (ugly) installed for $6000. Then....on top of that, I would need drywall, painting etc. Not a very ethical way of doing business. I fear for those that know little about homeownership as they will surely be taken advantage of by sharks like these.

I was really impressed that they do a camera video for the service and they showed me what I should expect for the future. They were able to tell me about the longevity and with the camera they were able to show me the inside of my furnace and what it looked like.
