I wanted to install inside timers for outside lights at my house. Ian returned my call promptly, asked me exactly what I needed, gave me a ballpark price. He told me he need to get the equipment and then would call me to schedule the installation date. He called me back in a couple of days and scheduled the installation time. His crew arrived on time and was very professional. Over the next few days, when I had trouble programming the timers, I called Ian and he called me back to patiently walk me through the steps.

Can make a wholehearted, enthusiastic, categorical, absolute, etc. (insert your favorite synonym here) recommendation of this company. Ian was actually quite patient when it turned out I had scheduled his guy to come out before our HOA allows contractors to enter the building-- oops. Even so, as we figured out what to do, he was totally polite, understanding, and professional. We got permission to have his worker come in and work got started quickly. The worker (whose name I have sadly forgotten, sorry!) was quite efficient without rushing. We had intermittently flickering lights, and we had isolated the circuit prior to him arriving so we knew what breaker was in question. Briefly, he started by checking connections and discovered that they were pretty much all loose. He fixed those and we thought the problem was solved. But rather than rush off, he spent a few minutes (as we were going to have an hour's labor on the bill anyway) and made SURE that he had really fixed the problem. Sure enough... not so much. He then progressed to the next most likely candidate, and the next, until figuring out the breaker would have to be replaced, which he did quickly and efficiently. Turned out it was corroded. Problem solved, and a couple of young homeowners feel infinitely better about our purchase
Description of Work: Occasionally flickering lights along one isolated circuit in the house which we had already identified prior to calling. Troubleshoot and repair job. Fixed some loose connections and ultimately had to replace a corroded breaker switch on the main circuit board. No re-wiring or anything like that, and no holes had to be put in the wall (thank God), but definitely a diagnosis and fix that required a licensed electrician.

Arrived on time. Carefully measured to ensure the track was straight and exactly where we wanted it. Covered the floor and thoroughly cleaned up upon completion of the job. It was the best home repair experience we have had in a long time. We highly recommend South Bay Electric Co., and will definitely use this company in the future.

The owner of the company came the day after I called him to give an estimate. I had drawings for him so it made it relatively easy to bid. I decided to go with the "per unit" pricing versus the overall cost given that I felt the scope may change as we got into it and since I had an old house with many unknowns, it seemed to make sense. The per unit pricing also made it nice to tally up the total cost in the end. We scheduled the work a few weeks in advance and when the crews arrived they were very professional, courteous, and clean. They worked long hours, worked hard, and did a very professional installation. There were other contractors on site simultaneously and So Bay Electric coordinated with all of them to optimize the installation. There were a few issues and missed items in the end but when I identified them, So Bay Electric was quick to come back to the house and fix them. Responsiveness is probably the best part of what I got from the owner, Ian Marsh. I would send texts, emails, and call on the phone and I would always get a quick response. Ian would even answer his phone on the weekends while fishing with his family. I have recommended So Bay Electric to a few other people now and everyone has had the same great experience. A side note: The owner, Ian, may at first glace appear to be a "rough" guy and you may be inclined to not trust him. I can assure you that once you get a chance to talk to him you will realize he is very knowledgeable, very professional, and takes a lot of pride in his reputation. His dedication to keeping his company a top rated business on Yelp and Angies list will give you at least some confidence that you will have your job done right. South Bay Electric gets my top mark. I plan on using them for my kitchen remodel and will always recommend them.

One of the circuit breakers that service our kitchen tripped and it could not be reset. I called South Bay at approximately 6:45 PM and left a message. They called back at 7 PM and said they could be here in about an hour. After arriving right on time they checked our circuits and repaired the circuit breaker. We were not charged anything extra for the late hour that the service was performed.

They also did a quick little fix of a light bulb. I thought it was something bigger but it turned out it was just a light bulb. He was excellent and came over right away. He was very reasonable. He only charged me for the light bulb, which was $15. He seemed real honest and up front about everything. He gave a breakdown of each thing and said when he could do the work and how long it would take. He was very thorough. I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off or scammed. It was an itemized quote. I would most definitely recommend him. It was the owner that came out. I plan to contact them.

Every facet of my dealings with South Bay have been professional and very impressive. They promptly return phone calls, text messages, and e-mails. They show up on time and they follow through. We have had them do many jobs for us and we have been satisfied in every case. We have multiple locations and I would never hesitate to recommend South Bay Electric to ANY company or ANY individual. These guys are GREAT.
Description of Work: We have used South Bay Electric for some time now for EVERYTHING electrical. They are, in one word, superb! They are capable of everything from complex three phase machine wiring all the way to surgical wall surgery for rewiring in a remodel. I cannot say enough good things about these guys: they are honest, reliable, capable, and credible. I would use them on anything they can handle, from commercial building (wiring of machines, lighting etc ) to VERY high end residential work; they have handled all of that for us, and we are VERY, VERY happy...

The day of service, the crew arrived a little late informing me that there was trouble locating the home via map quest. When they arrived, there were two guys. I spoke with them about what I wanted done and confirmed that my husband and I were on a budget and the costs of providing the electrical would be for 2 hours or at the most 3 hours, totaling $150- $225. Fine no problem. We requested that the guys complete as much as they could in the two hour time frame. After completion of the work we were informed by the guys that it was $75 per hour for only one guy, and since there were two of them, the total would be more. I spoke to Ian several times prior to the visit being scheduled and at no time did he mention that it would be other than the $75 per hour. In addition, my husband was informed by Ian that the additional guy finished another job early, so the company had him come with the scheduled guy. My husband asked them if they had informed me that it was $75 per hour per worker, and the answer was no. My husband also asked if I had been informed that two guys were coming and not one, as previously discussed. The answer was no. Since we were not informed of the additional fee (prior to work being done) due to the company changing how many workers to send and not informed that it would be $150 per hour instead of the agreed $75 per hour, we paid the agreed upon fee quoted for 2.5 hours ($225). The guys were professional but failed to informed or correct our stated understanding that were were going to pay $75 per hour for appx. 2-3 hours.
Description of Work: We originally planned and requested a quote on the pool light and electrical work to bring it up to code. I received a call from Ian, who informed me that they could come out, and that they charged $75 per hour for electrical work done. This seemed reasonable and I asked about having the company additionally install an already purchased double oven, microwave/cook fan, and other work that is needed around the house (e.g., plugs, etc.).

I contacted Ian after I was told by another electrician that my Zinsco electrical panel was a potential fire hazard (confirmed by looking on Google). I chose Ian's company based on his Angie's List feedback because I felt I needed someone with experience to do this work. Ian informed me I would need a meter spotting before he could do the estimate, which I obtained in 1 day, then I called him back that afternoon to request the estimate. Ian called the next day and came out to do the estimate that morning. We agreed on the price and scheduled the date of service for the following week. His 2 sons and Maynor arrived pretty much on time, did the work in a timely fashion, and cleaned up nicely after the work was complete. The guys were courteous and professional. Ian scheduled the city inspector, and waited around 2-1/2 hours for him to show up for the 3 minutes he was there to sign off on the work. Angie's List did not let me down in my choice of electrician for this job.

Derrick and Mayner were very professional and curtious. At one point during the installation, a short was introduced which caused some arcing at the utililty pole from the electric company. At first, Mayner and Derrick thought the problem might be the circuit breaker and replaced it with a new one, but that did not fix the short. At that point Derrick thought the problem might be at the electric company's utility pole. However, this didn't seem logical since I had no problem prior to any work being done. Mayner very methodically back-tracked thru the outlets that were installed in reverse order to try to figure out where the short was introduced. By doing so, the shorted circuit was working again (he was thinking that maybe when one of the outlets was installed, the wires might have got pinched causing the short). There have been no problems since the work was done. The electric co. came out and I explained what happened and they agreed that if there was a short, that could have caused the arcing at the pole. With one of the light fixtures I was having problems with (installed by the previous owners of the house), they discovered that the installation was unsafe and not to code. I appreciated that they pointed this out, and they properly installed the new fixture. At no time did I feel that D & M were rushing thru the job, they were professional and thorough. After each fixture/outlet was installed, they cleaned up any debris.

My first call to Ian was on 11/30/10. He was extremely polite and offered to come by that night so that I didn't have to go without light until the weekend. That didn't work for me, so we made an appointment for the next night. On 12/1/10, he came to fix my fan. The fan would not turn on and neither would the light attached to it. Within seconds he knew what the problem was and proceeded to fix the wires attached to the switch that turns everything on. First try - nailed it! I definitely recommend South Bay Electric Company.

Ian came out and gave us an initial estimate, and Ryan came and started the work; as things progressed, we realized there were more things added to the punch list, so Ian would revise the quote to add the additional items as we added them. At one point, the old original cloth wiring caught on fire in one of the bedrooms and the crawl space; Ryan was on the ball and got everything out and contacted us to inform as and get our okay to replace the wiring. All and All, even with the fire, everything went well, and we are plannng on contacting Ian after the holidays to have the rest of the house rewired. Ian even took care of the permits and inspections. As a first time homeowner, it was such a relief to have someone like Ian there to help us through everyrhing, and I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a true professional who will provide quality work at a fair price.
Description of Work: We needed a new electric panel and additional circuits run; the house had the original wiring and only one circuit so there was some major work to be done. Along with the panel, most of the inside wiring was replaced, light fixtures were hung, the electric in the bathroom was moved and the fan and light were put on separate switches. In addition, electric was done in the laundry room and a 220 circuit was added for my dryer, and extra outlets were added in a bedroom which originally only had one outlt.

The owner came to my house and gave an estimate so he could install the outlet based on using the electrical wiring behind the hallway lightswitch or use the one by the refrigerator. If not, it would be more if he had to go arcross the hallway and use those wiring. It ended up the employee had to do a little extra by going up though the light in the hallway, which he didnt expect. However, the owner called him and asked how things were going and the employee explained all what was done in order to complete the job. Therefore, the owner told him to charge a little extra. So I called the owner, and spoke with him and clarified what the extra charge was. He explained, based on it was unexpected the employee had to go up through the light in the hallway. Based on the first estimate given and how the job was going to be completed, the owner did offer not to charge the small extra price, if it was a hassle. But I told him I wanted to be fair if the employee did a little unexpected extra work. And plus his employee was very professional, really nice, cleaned up and did a great job!

Let me start by saying that Ian and his crew at Southbay Electric Company are the best in the business and I'm glad I live locally to them. The whole electric job at my house was quite complex and required a dedicated crew of between 2 and 3 guys working multiple days to complete. Ian gave me a rough price range for the job as best he could but since my house is a split level and some areas are accessible through the crawl space while other areas are accessed through two different attic areas there was really no way to exactly estimate the total price for the job from the get go. But I felt confident that he would do the best he could and that his crew would work hard and try to complete as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. Ian told me that some areas of the house may have some wall damage because of accessibility issues that may come up so I was expecting I would have to get a drywaller to repair the walls after they were done. To my surprise the crew did an outstanding job working inside the walls and barely touched the outside of only one wall in a closet. No exposed walls were damaged. He saved me big bucks not having to hire a drywaller. All of the work they did was done neatly and professionally. They always cleaned up after themselves and left the house in very neat condition. When the final bill came I was prepared for what I thought would be the cost. I was again pleasantly surprised when the final bill came in quite a bit lower than I expected. To sum up. Southbay Electric is a superb company with outstanding employees. They do great work at a very reasonable cost.
Description of Work: Grounded outlets, rewired cable tv all bedrooms, cut and installed ceiling boxes and ceiling fans in bedrooms, installed lights, fixed ceiling box, rewired ceiling light and other electric tasks.
