I found that it was intially difficult to establish contact with this provider.

They were unable to work with my schedule, unfortunately, so no services could be performed.

Great guy and great service. He did a wonderful job and I would easily recommend him again.

It went perfectly. it;s difficult finding someone in the first place, but scheduling and all communication was prompt and very easy. Estimate visit was quick and on time, and Bernie had a good idea for solving the issue. We scheduled a time to do the work and it is now successfully complete.

Communication was good. Company does not provide service to my area and did not work on weekends.

Good deal! Very reliable and stood behind work when several complications arose, but was very satisfied and would use them again for smaller jobs.

Bernie of Hollywood Home Improvement was great. Not only does he really do quality work he is super understanding. He started the project when he promised and finished on time . He and his team worked in the 100 degree plus heat and never lost his cool even when I changed my mind replacing a post and asking for extra things to be repaired. He had other clients waiting for him and yet he wanted to make sure he could fix everything I needed. before he left and moved on to the next location. Angie's list asks we let you know when a contractor goes above and beyond?. and I would say he certainly did. He may not want me to say this but I quote, " It's okay to change your mind" LOL That made me so happy. He never rushed me and always kept me in the loop with what was going on with my deck replacement so I could make decisions on the design aspect of it. We used TREK with the hidden fasteners and I'm glad I did. I will definitely be calling Bernie again for my 1000 ft addition to my house.

I purchased a big deal with this company. When they came out for the estimate, it was much higher than the cost of the deal, so I did not end up going with them.

Bernie was very punctual and explained everything clearly. They took out the existing concrete pad and leveled off the the area and put down forms for the new pad. Everything went well, everyone was on time and they cleaned up the yard when finished. I would recommend Hollywood Home Improvements.

They were fast, careful and did a great job.

We have a 1916 Craftsmen in the North Hollywood Arts District and are in the process of restoring the house to its original character. We ordered a pre-hung, 42 inch Douglas Fir, door to be hung in the living room of our home. My husband found Hollywood Home Improvement/Bernie on the Internet and explained that we needed a 42 inch door to be hung. Bernie sent his 'Carpenter', Christopher, to discuss whether they could hang the door. Christopher came, looked everything over, and said I can do it. The job was supposed to take 5-6 hours at $65 per hour. My husband and I agreed and Christopher returned to our house on the Monday after our discussion to begin and finish the job, supposedly, on the same day. Or so we thought..... Christopher talked our ear off for 3 days!!!! On the first day, Christopher struggled to hang the door the whole day. He kept explaining that he had never hung a 42 inch door and he was trying to get the door "plumb". Prior to Christopher taking the job; I asked that he take the moldings and casings off of the doors as gently as possible so that I could keep them and re-use them, if at all possible, instead Christopher ripped through the original redwood casings around the door, like a bull in a china shop, which made the casings irreparable. I have since had a real carpenter explain that it will cost me approx. $400 to replace the moulding that went over the door because they have to make it. Only one piece of original trim was salvageable after Christopher removed it from around the door, not to mention he cut the wire to my alarm system and said he couldn't figure out what it was for. The first day he couldn't finish the job, so he sat me down and said it was taking longer than he thought and he would be fair about the price (Fair about the price? Its not my fault you've never hung a 42 in door!!). He would come back the next day and what ever else he was saying. I couldn't believe it! That night we went to sleep with no hardware on the door and a nail through the door jamb as our only protection from the world. The next day progressed and Christopher took about 3 hrs to figure out how to install the hardware for the door. We learned about Christopher's children and how he didn't speak to them, we learned about his first and second wife and also his dog. He took out some plywood, yes, plywood, and put it around the door and called it the casings! It seems impossible that this could be real, but I have the pictures to prove it. When he said he was finished, I began to question the big wood thing that the door was sitting on and asking whether it was going to be hidden or something? Thank goodness a neighbor came by and noticed that the thing on the bottom of the door, was actually the old doorsill that went with the old door. Christopher had installed our brand new door on top of the old door sill and then when we confronted him and Bernie about it, Christopher blamed me!!! He told them that I wanted the door on top of the old doorsill. I was incredulous! I know nothing about doors and had never said such a thing to him. Bernie then decided to bring another carpenter in so that they could try to re-hang the door. They finally re-hung the door, on the 4th day, and they refused to fix the damage that they had done with the casings on the interior and exterior of the door frame. We had to have had to have the entire wall re-plasetered around the door and are still in the process of trying to fix the moldings and casings with a new carpenter.. Worst experience of our lives! Please save your money, don't use Bernie or his "Home Improvement" company. You will end up paying more to fix the damage they cause.

Installed a kitchen range hood. My planning was off, made it work anyway.

Bernie has a lot of expertise, does great work, and charges very reasonably. I am very happy with the balcony he rebuilt and he was very honest and fair in terms of pricing. I'm very happy with his work.

Talked with Bernie on a Tuesday evening. Seemed like a very nice, personable guy. Said he would come over the next day and take care of it, and that he would call my wife the next morning to schedule an exact time. He didn't call the next morning. Called around 4pm to say he couldn't do it until the next day. Not cool, but alright. Set up an appointment for the next morning. So, the next morning, after 3 calls to find out how to get to our location, he shows up. On the way to the apartment with the leak, my wife says "What happened yesterday?" He says, "Well, I guess I got busy, didn't I" No apology or anything close to regret. Regardless, my wife leads to the apartment. He looks it over, and says "I'll call my guys. How about Saturday?" What!? Now, he can't take care of the problem until Saturday! The guy came over in a car, with no tools, and clearly no intention of fixing the leak. Now, he wants to put us off until Saturday!! Unbelievable. He's supposed to call back to set up a time, but I will certainly tell him to take a leap off a cliff... IF he actually calls. Totally unprofessional and dishonest... before he even got a wrench in the air. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY! Too many concientous companies out there that WILL do good work, and be professional about it.

THEY WERE GREAT. BERNIE ALONG WITH DEBBIE SUPER SERVICE GOT BACK TO US IN A TIMELY AND VERY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON TIME EVERYTHING THAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO WAS DONE. OUT OF 37 YEARS DOING BUSINESS WITH DIFFERENT CONTRACTORS THIS WAS THE MOST PLEASANT EXPERIENCES IVE HAD. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT YOU CAN CALL ME AN ASK ME ABOUT IT(323-2999939).

I first contacted Hollywood Home Improvements back before the Holidays in 2012. Bernie came out promptly for an estimate and delivered it. I explained it might be a few months before I had all the money together. He stayed in touch with me, modifying our remodeling plans and estimates when I wanted to add the new deck to the remodel. We began work in February and all went pretty smoothly. We did the indoor remodeling first. The island kitchen was my dream for years and Bernie and his competent crew helped make a dream come true for me. The bathroom looks great. Its a smallish bath but the new glassed in shower, and tiling, along with the paint job and mirrors make it look much bigger. (Oh, he changed out the exhaust fan system to increase dehumidifying it -- that works well too) and The paint job and hardwood floors came out great! They even bleached out some old moldy stains I thought I would only be able to hide with a rug! The last part of the remodel was to tear out my tiny deck and expand it to incorporate a patio grill and large container windowboxes for gardening and decorative appeal. I couldn't be more pleased with Bernie and the whole Hollywood Home Improvements team. They are reliable, professional, respect our home and kept the work place as clean and organized as possible. Bernie stayed in touch with me and was flexible on some last minute changes on the paint color and moulding. They did a beautiful job! Just this weekend I was out on my patio planting some flowers and enjoying our new grill. The deck is a total pleasure.

They listened to what I wanted, but also offered their own suggestions to improve each project. Overall, a very positive experience.

Bernie gave me a phone estimate to install my oven , cook top, sink , and exhaust hood for my kitchen. I let him know the oven needed 220 power he said no problem he'll bring a guy. I asked him if he could do a vanity in the bathroom too and he said no problem. We made an appointment to do the work for a couple days later at 9 am and i waited. When he showed up to do the work it appeared some of his "guys" or people he hired we're not calling him back. Instead of admitting that he got stood up he claimed it was too big of a job for him, he had a seminar the next day and left. None of the things i wanted were out of the ordinary.All basic kitchen appliances. A classic thing for a shady contractor to do is make it seem like you have a HUGE job on your hands and treat you like a fool. He might be good for hanging pictures but if you need actual remodel detail i suggest looking elsewhere

I called to schedule an appt for an estimate. Spoke with Debbie; she would relay the message to Bernie since he does all his own scheduling. He did call me right away & the appt was made for him to come out to give me an estimate. Appt was for 9:30 so by 10:00 I called Debbie again to see if he was still coming. She conference all of us and Bernie stated he must of double booked to appt's for the same time & could be at my house by 1:00. Fine. He came looked over what need to be done, told me he would go and work up an estimate for me and email it to me. One week later I called him & asked if I would be getting the estimate soon & he said he was going to work on it as soon as he got home that evening and would I like it emailed or could he call me with it. I told him which ever is easier for him. 19 days later from the day he came out, I am still waiting for the estimate!!

The work had to be done on a Saturday, so we made the appointment for 10AM on a Saturday morning. I appreciate that Bernie will work on a Saturday, to accommodate people who can't take time off work. He was on time, except for a slight delay caused by a marathon in town that messed up parking. The old range hood was sticky from grease, and Bernie was careful to box it up and not dirty anything else. He had to go out briefly to pick up some electrical items to finish the installation. The cost for the work seemed reasonable.

He was very prompt and professional. His price was parallel with the company he actually hired.

Since our broken stair created a major hazard to anyone entering or leaving the house we wanted to get someone over right away. We called Hollywood Home Improvements and spoke to Bernie, the owner. He was able to send someone over the next day to check it out and give us an estimate. Two days later two workmen came and worked for about two hours (approximately). They did a GREAT job, we couldn't be happier with the service and skill. Bernie stopped by to check on his men and we found him to be thorough and meticulous. He directed the men to strengthen the structure and do a few more tasks that we hadn't asked for but which surely needed attention. All work was top notch and we were not charged extra for the additional work. We are very pleased with the quality of the work and will call Hollywood Home Improvement next time we need a handyman.

I set up an appointment with him last saturday. He didn't provide me with a courtesy call to let me know he couldn't make it. He originally was going to come at 12 pm then he later texted me and said he would see me Saturday at 10am. He was supposed to come out today and he never showed and never called to let me know he wasn't coming.

Bernie Dumanceaux and his helper Debbie (last name unknown) did an excellent job. This was quite a job, since the bathrooms had not been updated for about 25 years. They purchased and installed the heat lamps, fans and light fixtures, which also required re-wiring the electrical system. They then cleaned the mold, sanded, stuccoed and painted. We had a problem with mold and peeling paint due to poor venilation - and with the systems they installed, I am confident that this problem has now been alleviated. They also installed new cabinets. What was very impressive is that Hollywood Home Improvements goes above and beyond the call of duty. They bought and installed towel racks and soap dishes, that was a 'gift' - a very unexpected perk. They completed the job within 4 days, which was under the estimated time.

They were very prompt, and I thought the gentleman who helped me was professional and courteous. Initially, I was going to be charged a flat rate, but he was able to complete the work much quicker than he anticipated. When I pointed this out, he was agreeable and switched my billing from a flat rate to hourly. However, I still feel that the work was overpriced.
