It went wonderful. He is very responsive, prompt, and reliable. He is very nice and kind to work with. I feel like he genuinely cares about the work he provides. I would highly recommend him to others.

They do a good quality, he is very meticulous with the quality of the work that his people are doing, and if something is not done right, he always make it sure that it is taken cared off and fixed right away. Pricing was good as well.

It was good. They were on time and the work was done as requested. Did the work as expected to be done.

Not one piece of the work was performed professionally or correctly. Everything had to be redone. Boards were cut too short, the shoring up of one part of the deck was done by stacking loose pieces of wood up to wedge in a make-shift support, nails were left jutting out on the top of the deck, and the gate was nailed into place with inadequately small nails. It slid off the nails within two days. When I reported this to Bernie, he asked me what we should do. It was my understanding that he was the handyman, not me. I expected him to have the solutions.

They are pretty affordable and they did a good job on our house.

They did good on the tub. But the pricing is not what I expected. The workers were nice people.

The worker was to come on Saturday. He called 30 minutes prior to the appointment and said he was not coming due to car trouble. We rescheduled for Monday at 10. I called the office at 10:15 and was told the worker was doing another job and was told details of the other job. I stated that his appointment was with me at 10. The person at the office (I assume it was the owner of the business, told me he would have to come and do it himself if the worker could not get to my house between 2 and 3.) The worker came at 3:15. He looked at the attic opening and explained why he could not enlarge it, due to beams and pipes near it. I understood, and he was asked to repair 2 broken roof beams, which he did. It took 1 1/2 hours. I supplied the wood, the ladder, the screws, a hammer, and an extra drill to make pilot holes, and a high powered work light to light up the attic. He had brought a drill, a hand-held saw, and a few screws. So this "deal" of $99 for 2 hours labor, really did mean labor only. He attached 2 X 4s to the broken beams, but in the process, some small support wood, maybe 15 inch pieces, were damaged. I did not request their replacement, as I did not have that size pre-cut wood laying around, and it was not offered. I was given no tips or advice as to anything else that could be done to support the attic structure, and I feel that a professional carpenter would have offered some advice. I have other jobs to be done around the house, but nothing about the company was stated, I was given no paperwork whatsoever. I do not feel that it was very professional, and I could have gotten a general handyman off the street for less money.

Great, would definitely use them again for small projects around the house.

Bernie did a great job, was very reliable and finished on schedule. Great to work with.

A plumber had left holes in wall and ceiling he made to fix in a leak. Bernie and his assistant put nice doors on them that so we can open them again in case more needs to be done on the plumbing. It looks good and is a very practical solution. They were helpful, informative, clean and gave me a decent price. In the past we used Bernie / Hollywood Home Improvement to remodel a bedroom, remodel a bathroom, get rid of mold due to a leak, fix a wood floor, fix a roof leak and more I have forgotten. The bedroom and bath look great and add to the value of the house. He always does a high quality job, works fast, doesn't overcharge us or sell us unnecessary work. He is trustworthy, professional, does what he says he will do and is always in good humor. That is why we have used him over and over again for at least a decade.

Took awhile...3 days and a bit messy

I've used Hollywood Home Improvement for several months. He has completed odd jobs in the office. We give him a list and it gets done. I will continue using him when I can.

Horrible. Repairs were not made as discussed and instead were "jerry rigged". Example: using Bond instead of replacing rotted wood as discussed. Caulking was shoddy and his own worker told me that he told the main guy to stop cutting corners. Completely over priced. My neighbor got her house painted for $1500 less and they did an excellent job.

Bernie and his crew did a great job expanding a window for me. I had already planned on putting new windows in my home through another local window company, but I wanted to expand my view before doing so. Bernie was pleasant to work with, quickly got the job done, and cost less than other estimates for the project. I also found him to be honest: when a written estimate he gave me was slightly more than the initial estimate he gave, he knocked a little off the price. The cost difference between estimates was because he discovered I also needed replace an outdated header above the window. Even after the second estimate, the cost was still slightly cheaper than other estimates I received. I would not hesitate to hire him for any other contracting jobs, and I plan on using his services again in the future.

EXCELLENT. Bernie was extremely responsive. The quality of the work was excellent. I would recommend WITHOUT reservation.

I wanted double hooks on the wall to hang two expensive pictures and the service man wanted to put up one. I explained the reason double hooks are needed and he only place. When I showed him that the picturer was off balance he did what I asked him. I paid for two hours of service and only used him for 45 minutes. I did not want this man touching anything else in my house..This is first time using Angies List that I have had a problem. Nice man but not a handy man. I'm not mechanical, but could have done a much better job. I feel I wasted $200.00 with this individual.

Bernie was great. I bought this deal months ago, however, I was waiting for a major project to be finished first -- before I could have the new lighting fixture installed. My schedule is crazy and so is Bernie's. Eventually we found a time that worked for both of us. I only bought 2 hours of time, but I could have bought more. I found that there were more things for him to do! My doorbell was the priority. I got the run-a-round from many electricians. Nobody wanted to fix a low-voltage doorbell -- I guess a small job like that wasn't worth their time. Bernie didn't hesitate and fixed it right up. I'm thrilled with it since it's been broken for years! I also had him take down an old light fixture that was over the dining room table. This thing was U-G-L-Y and I couldn't stand it anymore. I bought a replacement and had it in the box and waiting in the wings. Bernie took down the old one without any problems. I also assisted him lifting the new fixture because it's heavy and he was the one climbing the ladder. He helped me decide how low it should hang and adjusted the chain links accordingly. These two simple fixes made me so happy. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes it's the little things that need attention, and then everything else falls into place. I would be happy to have Bernie back again. I just might have him install some framed art and towel bars in the future.

Took far too long. He said "no problem" when he arrived with prepurchased 2 hours of work and it was my understanding the job would be completed in that timeframe. Handyman knew the task and had the make and model of the fan ahead of time. If he didn't think it would be enough time, he should have let me know. Yes, there was a "new" way to anchor the fan that he said required more tome, but after 2 hours he never informed me he would need more time, let alone an hour and a half. He finished the job (and cracked some plaster, that I declined he repair, since I didn't want even more time added.) Also, the switch for the fan and the light that he installed on the wall, is reversed.

I had a list when he arrived and everything was all taken care of within the 2 hours.

the Bernie is a most knowledgable repairman whose assistance was appreciated in helping me with all of my repairs but also he is exceptionally knowledgeable about many things that had to do with fixing up my old apartment. I made the appointment with Bernie's charming wife; she explained clearly how the process would work and asked me to check to see what days would be good for me and that she would have Bernie call me back. Bernie got back to me the next day and was ready to come to work the following day. I advised him that I would be available until the following week; he gave me his email, asked that I email him a list of the things that needed to be fixed and that he would be ready with the proper tools. On the appointed day of service, Bernie called me to confirm our time and came promptly at that time. I had a variety of things that I needed to have done, as I moved into the apartment 6 months ago and never got around to doing many of these simple things that needed to be done but make a house a home. At the same time because the building is older, there were many things that had begun to go wrong that I couldn't get the landlord to correct. Bernie was very through at his assessment of all of the things that I needed to have done and his expertise helped me to figure out how to solve problems like how to repair the broken slat windows or how to get my cabinets to close. He was exceptionally good and thorough and all things were done in a very professional and complete manner.

Bernie and his crew did an excellent job. They came on time, did a great job on the repairs, and cleaned up afterwards. They went above and beyond the work requested by doing minor repairs, such as patching and painting the front of the house, while they completed the agreed-upon work. We are happy to say that we will get a good price on the house when we sell it thanks to the quality work that they did. I followed the advice that another poster on this site recommended, which was to buy the materials for the guys to work with so that when they come they can get right to work (paint, plaster, etc). This worked out well for us, so I would recommend this bit of advice as well for anyone who needs minor repairs and patchwork around the house.

I've used Bernie's services since the early 2000's for a number of jobs, including converting an under-stair space into a tiled bathroom with stall shower, building an oak stairway, replacing linoleum floors with hand-cut and hand stained (by Bernie) adobe tiles, and installing a large brass pool table chandelier. Bernie's projects have always been competitively priced, on time, on budget, and, most importantly, performed with craftsmanship and professionalism. Recently, however, Bernie outdid himself. At the last minute, due to poor planning and a looming re-fi appraisal, i asked (and Bernie agreed), to complete the above list in four consecutive days. The entire list was completed on time; the workmanship exceeded my expectations. And, thanks to Bernie and his crew, so did the appraisal. Finally, the jobs shown were not all on my original list. Taking a second look around the house and grounds after his verbal estimate, Bernie made a few suggestions for improving the look, inside and out, and said he'd still be able to complete the work on time. Which he did. His written quote (and bill) was unchanged from his verbal estimate. He did not charge for any of the items he suggested.

He was okay. Basically, he showed up and he like asked my sister if she had a tape measure. He was fine like he got the work done. He wasn't that excellent or something.

He was here for 2.5 hours so he still owes me 90 minutes of handyman work.

Contact with company was established almost immediately and they were all about fitting in our hectic schedule. Bernie and crew always showed up promptly with all supplies ready to go. If supplies were needed, trips to the hardware store were never overly long or without reason. The paint job was top notch especially the front door which was a job that required the entire door to be re-sanded (no easy task) and then re-stained. The best stain was chosen to meet our needs (they ask a lot of questions to ensure you get exactly what you want) and Bernie even came back after the fact to seal the door and check for any unstained patches. Now, all of it looks amazing and all repair work is solid and has not broken down again. Incredibly friendly, reasonably priced and above all respectful. Highest recommendation.
