I called this company to get pricing for a new water heater. They only install up to 75-gallon water heaters, and I need a 100-gallon heater, so even though they couldn't do the installation, the gentleman was helpful, honest, and professional and took the time to help me, so I wanted to take the time to give them a great review. He talked to me about what is required, some of the (over $1,400) additional installation costs included in an estimate I had received - beware of these!) and even offered to help me sort out estimates from other plumbers. He also told me you need to get a permit for any water heater installation, even if it's the same capacity. A rare and appreciated conversation! I would definitely have used them if I could have!

Hooray, I have hot water again! Great company and excellent service. Noticed my water heater was leaking profusely on Thursday. I shut it off and called Fast Water Heater Company (after reading the great reviews) for a quote. They said they would send someone out on Friday am. Friday am, would not work for me and I asked if I could have an appt. later on in the day. They adjusted their schedule and set me up. Erick G. called me on the way to let me know he was coming. He gave me a very fair detailed quote telling me exactly what he was going to replace, and included permit fees. Approved, started work and finished up in less than 2 hours! Hauled the crumbling one away and now we have hot water again. I have no doubt that the work will city inspection. Legit and fast. Thanks! (also got to save an additional $75 via Angies List coupon!) Plus they extended the warranty (for an additional fee) to cover me for 10 years instead of the basic 6 years.

They were alright. They were responsive. The worst thing was that there were hidden fees above board. There were parts, pieces, and fittings and the permits.

Fast Water Heater company is the contractor for Home Depot. They apparently have many branch locations. Customer service was good. However, the technician was not very experienced. First off, he "completed" the installation and we paid. After he left, I noticed that the bonding wire which is required now to pass inspection, was not installed. I had to make another appointment to have that wire installed, whereupon the tech explained that he did not have enough wire with him when he installed the water heater, but "forgot" to inform us. When the city building inspector came, the installation failed inspection because the bonding wire was improperly installed and the insulation around the hot water outlet was not installed correctly either. We had to have them return a third time to properly install the two items, but I insisted to have a more experienced installer come out. We made an early morning appointment, because this was the third time, but the technician was given a late morning time to show up. During these issues, the customer service manager was very helpful and gave us a small refund for the cost of the bonding wire installation.

Overall very happy with FAST - both their support over the phone, and their installer. I decided to splurge and go for the larger 48 gallon model, with 10-year warrantee. The installer actually showed up a little early. He spent about 10 minutes reviewing my setup and determining what additional changes would be needed to bring it up to code (new water shutoff valve, new gas shutoff valve, drip pan, drain line, grounding wire). These items added up to about $275 but I decided to go ahead and have it all done right just to avoid any issues with resale. The install was done in about an hour, which sort of made me feel like the total price of about $1,600 was a little on the high side. But on the other hand they did an excellent job and the new heater is working great. So, probably worth the extra money to have a trouble-free install and peace of mind that it was done right.

I called several companies to do the work. Prior to Fast Water Heater Company coming for a quote, Rescue Rooter came to give a quote. They quoted $2400. I had done my research and new this was over double other offers. David with FWHC showed up, was more than efficient and new what he was doing. This is the first time I would highly recommend a company. Run from Rescue Rooter.

The installation went fine. The installer was competent and knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. However when I called to schedule the installation, the scheduler told me on the phone that I had to pay them $200 extra for a permit and that they would not do the work without a permit. That was not part of the deal. I complained and ended up calling the City myself and went down and got the permit myself for free. When the installer got there, he told me that I could have just signed a waiver instead of getting a permit. Very confusing and disappointing info from the scheduler. I later called Fast Water Heater and spoke to their billing department. They told me the scheduler was incorrect. She told me that the scheduler will be retrained as to the correct policy regarding pulling permits. Long story short she apologized and refunded the $50 extra I spent on a drip pan to go under the new water heater which apparently is now required by the code. I appreciated that so I told her that I would give Fast Water heater a good rating instead of a D or an F. As I said I thought the price of the original deal was good, (which was what I paid) and the installation was also well done.

A+ in my book. Just bought a fixer upper and had them come out to install a new water heater. They arrived on time and very professional service, really appreciated all the attention to detail and they walked me through the entire process with the city permit. The water heater was installed quickly and they cleaned up after they were done. Top notch service and I've had a few dogs to know the difference. I would definitely recommend and use them again.

It was good. Everything turned out fine. I bought the external warranty. They couldn't find the right water heat tank size and so, they had to get a different size and they charged me more for that. I paid another $100 more for the water tank size and the warranty was $400 more. They came out to do the work within a week or two, it was pretty quick. They did a good job but I would have liked it if they had put down like some cardboard or paper. The water heater is located inside the home and so it would have been nice if they had put down a paper or something to cover the carpet up. He just put the water heater with all the dripping water on my carpet. It looked like he was kind of in a hurry because first, he didn't have the right water heater size. He had to leave and come back. That is the only reason I gave them a B, other than that everything seemed fine. They were responsive. They told me when they were going to be there and, they were there the same time they said. I would probably use somebody else in future.

My water heater bit the dust, and I needed to get a new one quickly. I contacted Home Depot, and they scheduled the delivery and installation of a new water heater through their contractor, Fast Water Heater Company. Their representatives were easy to deal with, explained everything, and got me an installation date on a Sunday. The technician, Jose G. Gomez, showed up early, was very friendly, answered all my questions patiently, was very respectful of my stuff (carpet and walls) as he lugged the new water heater up three flights of stairs to the roof and the old water heater back down. The installation was thorough and professional, and I am very happy with the result. It is nice to have hot water again!!

I was very impressed with this company. I began by speaking to Bryan to set up an appointment for the next day to install a new water heater. He was very nice and professional, Dustin D did an outstanding job installing the water heater. He explained everything to me. He was very nice, professional and courteous ,and made sure to do whatever was necessary to have the water heater meet the code requirements for the city of Huntington Beach. I will definitely recommend him to my friends and family.

We agreed to the increased price and signed the work authorization, but the company refused to complete the installation. Apparently this company will only work if they know up front they'll get a good review. Be suspicious of their overall rating, since Home Depot customers only get to review when the service is completed. If Fast Water Heater refuses to complete the job, there is no review. UPDATE: The response from Fast Water Heater Company has prompted me to edit my review to correct some of their assertions. First, when our water heater stopped working we did not schedule a visiting bid two days later, as stated by the company. We called Home Depot's toll free water heater installation line, not their bid scheduling line. We specified the water heater we wanted, we provided the information they asked for. We were asked to measure the height and width of the opening, the distance from the floor, the distance to the ceiling, where we lived, if there were shut off valves -- basically we provided a lot of information to get as close to a final cost as possible. With $559 for the water heater and $115 for the permit, their quote of $610 for installation, earthquake kit, hoses, valves, gas sediment trap, and haul away seemed reasonable. Our total cost should have been near $1,284, give or take $150 for unforseen incidentals. We made an installation appointment, not a bid appointment. The installer arrived and wrote up the work order. He explained that the total cost would be $1,846. We complained about the cost since it was so much more than the detailed cost we were given by phone and there did not seem to be a justification for the increased cost. But we did not have hot water and the installer was there, so we signed the authorization to complete the work. The installer felt bad and called his manager to see if they could do anything about the price. He then put us on the phone so his manager could explain that the costs were reasonable. We were still under the impression we were dealing with Home Depot, so we told the manager we would like the water heater installed but we would take our issues with the policy of excessive added costs to Home Depot. The installer's manager then said he would not allow the installer to put in our water heater because we were going to complain. This Fast company has responded to our review saying that we were going to ask for a refund. Never did we say anything about a refund. We said we were going to complain to Home Depot about how we went to great lengths to get a close cost estimate before installation only to have a huge $562 price increase at the last minute with our water heater on the installer's truck. Many people would have just paid to have it installed at that point. But stating our intention to complain to Home Depot about their upcharging policy when we were at the installer's mercy is not the same as demanding a refund. Even though we thought their actions were sleazy, we are extremely grateful to Fast Water Heater Company for refusing to install our water heater. They caused us to do further research to find out just who we were dealing with and how they do business. Here is what we discovered: In our area of Southern California (Ventura), when we called the toll-free number for Home Depot water heater installation service, our call was actually forwarded to a phone mill manned by the Fast Water Heater Company. We were never talking to Home Depot. We selected the water heater from the Home Depot inventory on their website, and that was the end of Home Depot's involvement. Apparently, when we said we would complain to Home Depot, the Fast Water Heater Company wanted to prevent that. You see, we only get to provide a review of the installation service if there is an installation. Without service, there can be no negative review at Home Depot. What a tech-savvy strategy for keeping your ratings high! When the installer left and I called the local Home Depot, the manager's assistant took copious notes and expressed concern that we were still without hot water simply because we threatened to complain to Home Depot. He took our number, repeated it back, and promised to get right back to us. Three days later there has been no call. Later that day we called Lowe's. Our home is equidistant from Home Depot and Lowe's. We have a habit of going to Home Depot because they were here first and Lowe's came later. Fast Water Heater Company has changed our Home Depot habit permanently. We called the Lowe's toll-free water heater installation number. Our first question was whether we were talking to Lowe's or a contract installation service. It was indeed Lowe's. The second question was whether Fast Water Heater Company did their installation. The Lowe's rep called our local store and found that Fast did not do their installations. We then preceeded to go through the same questions we previously answered for Home Depot. Although it was the same water heater size, BTU and warranty, the installed estimate was less than the estimate from Home Depot. We scheduled for the next day knowing there would be additional charges for any incidental code compliance issues. The Lowe's installed showed up on time, was very professional. He had the local city plumbing code along with a diagram showing what he would need to install. He actually did more plumbing work than the Fast Water Heater Company installer recommended. The total additional cost was $277 instead of the $562 added by Fast. Even better, the starting estimate was much less than Home Depot, so the total cost after the add-on charges was only $1,246. Fast Water Heater Company saved us $600 by refusing to do business with us! Additionally we learned that a large corporate store, Lowe's, was more friendly and accomodating than a smaller local installation company in Southern California. We also learned that Home Depot can contract out their customer services to companies that are not necessarily interested in servicing the customer. All in all, a very educational experience. In spite of Fast Water Heater Company's assertion that we threatened to complain on sites like this one, we had no intention of complaining anywhere but Home Depot. However, Home Depot did not ever return our call. Since Fast would not perform the installation, they effectively prevented us from reviewing their service on Home Depot's reviews. As members of Angie's List, though, we have the right to share our unsuccessful transaction with Fast Water Heater Company.
Description of Work: As an installer for Home Depot, Fast Water Heater quoted a price of $1,284 which included a permit plus hardware for installation and code requirements. When the installer arrived, he quoted additional charges to bring the total to $1,846. Feeling that this was excessive considering we had already asked for potential upcharges, we authorized the installation and said we would complain to Home Depot about the pricing policy. The installer talked to his Fast Water Heater manager who got on the phone and told us they refused to install the water heater because we planned to complain to Home Depot. They have the right to refuse service to anyone.

Thank you for the opportunity to bI'd your job. As we explained over the phone, we are a 100% compliant company which means in addition to being licensed, insured and back ground checked, we always pull permits if it is required. As we explained to you, because of this we don't have a final price until we see your site as there may be safety issues with your previous installation that are not current with code. As we explained, this costs you nothing for us to determine. We give you a firm and final bid at the door. You told us that you did not agree to the price and that you wanted us to install it but that you would seek ways through both home depot and sites like this one to demand a refund from us. And, as we explained, if you are not happy with the orice, there really is no obligation, we don't charge you for the bid. We do excellent work which we stand by. We are sorry you did not like the price, but we are glad that you now have the opportunity to find a better fit for your needs and we wish you the best of luck.

It ended up being a $1600 job. It was ridiculous. My wife paid it. I never had a chance to call them. To put the vent from the top of the water heater to the roof, around the deck, the labor alone was like $300. My wife said the guy was not there longer than two hours. $150 an hour for labor for that particular part only? That's completely ridiculous. The work was done fine. They were pretty responsive. They were on time.

We are sorry you did not like the cost of the vent work. We never begin work without providing a full cost and having the customer agree and sign the bid. We do also have a 5% best price guarantee as long as competing bids are from someone licensed and pulling a permit and doing the work to code. We regularly shop the market and have found we are the most cost efficient option provided you are looking for someone who is licensed, doing the work legally and to code. We also background check all of our employees. We are best value for a quality installation. You can certainly find a handyman (who may not install the water heater safely - and water heaters cause millions of $'s of damage every year and also have a variety of safety issues due to CO and water pressure...) to do the work less expensively. But, we know we are the most cost effective option provided you want the work done professionally. We have also been in business since 1986 and as a result are able to support most customers with same or next day service for warranty work on units that we have installed. Thanks for your business. We are sorry you did not like the pricing of the work.

Customer service was great. Found Fast Water Heater through Angie's List. Also did some research and went to Home Depot to find out cost of water heaters. Turns out they also contract Fast Water Heater for installations. Angie's List had a discount so decided to use them directly as opposed to going through Home Depot. Service was great! They came out and explained there may be additional costs. They sent someone out to explain the pricing before it was installed as I requested. They didn't give me all the information when I purchased the deal. They had to bring it up to code and it raised the price to $2100 from $849. I felt kind of blind sided by the company and how they handled the pricing. The techs were fine and explained everything very well. I wish I would have gotten all the information upfront before we even started. The whole experience has been awful. I paid them for a permit but after that I was kind of on my own for getting it permitted. The process a nightmare. The technical side was great but the other part was not. The business part is why I will not use them again.

My 50 gallon water heater was leaking and the "Bid Deal" had a special for replacement of water heaters. I contacted Fast Water Heaters and the first open date was in two days to replace my 50 gallon water heater. They did warn me that there may be additional costs if the City updated their permit requirements. When the technician arrived I found out two things: 1) The water Heater was a 48 gallon water heater not a 50 gallon water heater; 2) if I wanted the job permitted I would need to pay an additional $480.00 fee for the additional equipment. I was told that the 48 gallon was the same as the 50 gallon in output of hot water and had a quicker recovery time. I had a choice of getting a permit or not. I chose the permit. The technician was great and the installation went very smoothly. All that was promised was delivered in a very short period of time (around 2 hours). The technician was very courteous and professional. In about two weeks the City inspector came by and signed off on the permit.

I wanted a new 50-gallon heater, but when they came to give me an estimate they determined that it would not fit through the trap door entrance to the California Basement in my 1913 Craftsman home. As the unit being taken out was a very old 40-gallon heater, replacing it with a similar size was OK. Due to the difficult basement access, it was necessary to have two men on the job, which added to the cost. All this was explained up front. They took care of the permit application. The crew arrived on time, were very careful with the premises and did a very nice installation. They replaced some old exhaust ducting and the flexible gas delivery connector. They carted off the old water heater. Later, the city inspection was quick and painless. The only issue arose around the billing. I had purchased an installation special through Angie's List, but then inadvertently paid the full amount to Fast Water Heater. Once the double payment was discovered, the company made a correction and I was credited immediately. The Rheem water heater is a little pricey, but it had the best reviews. Overall, the job was fast and professionally executed.

Originally I contacted them through Home Depot. They came out and did the estimate and were prepared with the materials to do the work on the spot. The pricing was straight forward and they applied their Angie's list $100 credit offer when I mentioned that I also found them online and wanted to take advantage of that offer. They did a very clean and professional job in half a day and took care of the permitting that my city required. I would say that I feel the price was right on, the work was high quality and the office staff who coordinated the repair were professional and knowledgeable. This was one of most hassle free and surprise free jobs that I've had a contractor do. I would definitely recommend them.
