Dear member, Thank you for taking the time to write this review and provide your feed back, Its exactly 1 week since we spoke last Saturday morning when I returned your phone call and gave you my email address to email me the pictures I requested of the work you needed done with the promise to get back to you ASAP after I receive them, Its a week later and I still have not received the information you said you were going to send me and that's the reason you did not hear back from me. I do apologize for not meeting your expectations and I'll take you F Grade Review of my customer service even though it's disappointing to me as somebody who takes great pride in their work and customer service and use that negativity as teaching moment for myself and next time take the time to follow up with you or any other client and let them know that I didn't receive the information they promised to send and ask them to resend it. I do hope you found a provider who did return your call and service request in a more timely fashion and I wish you well your project. Thank you again for your feed back. Description of Work: Aston is a master of his craft and he is a true professional in other respects. He cleaned up after himself and took great pains not to splatter mortar onto my new landscaping. The only reason I gave a B on price is that Aston's fee is high, but he is worth it and you get what you pay for in quality. I would and will hire Aston again. This was the second time he did work for me to my utmost satisfaction. And did I mention that Aston has a great sense of humor and is very intelligent??

Description of Work: Bathroom ceiling sustained water damage. Aston returned my call the next day and promptly arrived at my door. He has a gentle demeanor and nice vibe. I asked him to open his shoes and he happily obliged. He made some notes and promised to email me his quote later in the day. He did just that and I decided to hire him. He does all the work himself and the repair took a whole day as he said it would. He covered up the floors/carpets and cleaned up when he was done and didn't make a mess. He may not be the cheapest but I was pleased by the quality of his work, his punctuality, and his professionalism.

Fantastic, after being a little gun shy after the terrible job that Sears had done, we were apprehensive about another contractor. Found Aston on Angies list and went for it. He arrived early for the estimate and was thorough and explained exactly what was involved. He said he would fix all of the areas around the windows that Sears had screwed up, i.e uneven wallboard, large voids etc. On the day of the job he arrived exactly when he said he would and went right to work preparing both rooms, plastic on the walls and furniture, floors covered, windows masked and covered. Very particular in his prep. of the rooms and walls. A true mark of someone who is proud of his accomplishments and professionalism. He first tapped all of the joints and large voids, primed the walls and applied a scratch coat. After letting the scratch dry, he applied two finish coats. The repaired area is smoother that the original walls. He cleaned up the areas completely, unlike Sears, and gave me thorough instructions on how long to let it dry before painting and reattaching the molding. He was not rushed and very congenial, a very pleasant experience. I do have more work for him and will definitely be contacting him to remove some acoustic in our bedroom.
Description of Work: Needed to finish interior walls in two rooms from a very sloppy window installation done by Sears Home Improvement. Drywall was installed by the Sears contractor, however I asked him not to tape it, when he admitted that he was not very good at tapping and finishing drywall. I needed to remove all of the molding they put in and realized that without silicon, the defects in the wall were very evident. Sears agreed to have me contact an independent drywall contrator and they would pay for it.

We recently replaced a extremely large older kitchen window with a smaller, more efficient one, and as a result, needed a large area of the outside wall patched with stucco. Aston came over and gave us a verbal estimate and then followed up that estimate with a written one via email. We decided quite quickly to choose his services because of the rave reviews here on Angie's list and the great impression he left with my husband during his visit. He completed the stucco in 2 visits. The first visit was to put the tar paper, mesh wire, and then a base coat. We let that dry for 4 days, and then he came back for the finish coat. He took great care in protecting the new window with plastic and the cement patio by laying down plastic and then cleaned up after himself. The wall looks wonderful and one would never know there was a patch there. I think the job was worth the cost and Aston is a true artist.
Description of Work: Patched a large stucco hole on the exterior of the house that was made when we replaced a large older kitchen window with a smaller one. The area needed to be patched with stucco to match the rest of the house.

Aston did a great job. He matched the exterior stucco texture, and explained how he made sure the underlying building wrap would also be repaired. The stucco looks great and survived the next storm. The garage drywall was also patched, plastered, and matched the texture. Aston explained what he was going to do, and that he was going to be sure to use fire rated drywall. Again, Aston did an outstanding job. Aston clearly takes pride in his work and it shows both in his work and his willingness to explain what needs to be done.
Description of Work: Aston patched a number of areas around the house. The main reason we called was we needed to patch some stucco after having a plumbing problem. In addition, we had a few drywall patches that we needed fixed as well. Stucco hole - about 6"x8" around hose bib Drywall in garage about 12"x12"

Aston was amazing to work with!!! He was very professional, did amazing work (the Newport Beach inspector even commented on what high quality work Aston did and how far it is above some of the other work he had recently inspected), and was very reasonable in his pricing and flexibility. I would definitely recommend him to anyone doing stucco work.

We upgraded our electric panel and our electrician basically slammed our house with a mallet creating enormous cracks and holes. Our house was built in the 1920s and is in a historic district in Santa Ana. We called Ashton and he returned our call within a few hours. Ashton set up a time to take a look at the panel and arrived a few minutes early at the scheduled time. Interestingly enough, Ashton had done some work for the prior owners of our home due to a plumbing leak. His work was so good-we didn't even notice where the interior work had been done. Ashton gave us a very fair and reasonable price for the repair work which involved fairly extensive exterior stucco work. We had gotten a few estimates and found Ashton's estimate to be fairly low and very reasonable. Ashton showed up when he promised and completed the work within two days. Ashton told us to call him after the stucco had dried to let him know if we were satisfied. My wife who is a perfectionist called Ashton and told him that she noticed a few cracks developing (candidly, I thought it was fine). Like most contractors who had been paid in full, I assumed Ashton would not call us back or return. To our delight, Ashton not only called us back but went back to the house to investigate. Ashton being even more of a perfectionist, told us that he was not happy with his work and re-did the patch a few days later at no additional charge. We were so happy with Ashton's work and professionalism that we asked him to repair the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. Keep in mind, this is a 85 year old house! Ashton again showed up as promised, took great care to keep the work site clean, charged a very reasonable price, and cleaned up afterwards. We then hired Ashton to repair some interior stucco holes as we were removing some old light fixtures. We have a few other projects around the house and will definitely use him in the future. Ashton represented to us that he trained working in old houses in England and it is clear that an old house in California is easy for him. We highly recommend him and would and will use him again.

Dear Members, Thank you so very much for your very flattering review, Vintage homes like yours really remind me of why I became a plasterer, to get the chance to recreate a piece of history ! is not something I get to do every day ! , so when I do it gives me great pleasure and pride to hear that you where happy with my work ! Both Inside And Out !!. The art of interior plastering, is they say a dying art ! ! but with the help of home owners like yourselves who not only want to preserve these old homes ! but preserve their integrity and character by using plaster instead of drywall for repairs and additions makes me love going to work !!!. I thank you for your business and wish you and your family every happiness in your new home ! and look forward to serving you in the future Sincerely Aston.C.Hill (Patchwork's Owner Operator)

called Aston and left a voice and email message. He replied back via email later that day and said he would call me the next morning. He did and said he could come by later that day to give me an estimate and take a look at what needed to be done. I thought his price was fair for the work needed and he said he could be by on friday morning. Friday morning he shows up promptly and begins working on the main stucco, drywall and other miscellaneous stucco holes I had around the perimeter of the house. very pleased with the service and quality of the work. Aston was courteous, professional and a nice guy overall. Would use him again if I needed additional stucco repair.

Aston is a very skilled and professional artisian who knows his craft. He was on time, and if he was running late he would call. Overall experience was great. We felt that Aston treated us fairly and are very satisfied with the job he performed for us We would trust him to do work for us again because we know it would be well done and at a reasonable and fair price. He is also a very pleasent chap and we enjoyed having him at our home. Thank you Aston!
Description of Work: Aston assessed the damage and cracks in the stucco for the exterior of the house and made recommendations for the repair. The repairs consisted of two very large cracks and two smaller ones, sizes varied from 3feet to 16feet in size. Aston started working on the project on the date he said he would, and completed the work in two days as promised. He found some unexpected damage halfway into the project but did not add any more to the original estimate even when we offered to pay him more. He also did a great job in cleaning up after the job was done.

Aston was very easy to work with. We needed stucco repair after we got a new roof and he did a thorough job and had the expertise for the project. We had painters come and estimate, but they didn’t have the experience that Aston did. And he didn’t ask for payment until we were satisfied. Would highly recommend Patchworks.

Aston removed all old Wainscot, insulated the area and then covered with two coats of 60 minute paper. He then completed the brown and scratch coating and then waited the several days required before the final stucco top coat was completed. The job came out very good. Aston did a great job matching the existing stucco. Aston was neat, courteous, punctual, and communicated everything that was going on to both my wife and I. When he completed the job, he cleaned up the area to just the way it was before the work was started. Appx. one week after he completed the work, there were a couple small cracks around windows (nothing unusual for such a large stucco job). We contacted Aston and he was here the next day to take a look at what was going on. He came back a couple days later to repair and re-float the whole front again. This was not necessary but Aston really goes the extra mile to ensure we were pleased...and we were!!! We would definitely use Aston again and have already recommended him to several friends that are thinking about some outside and inside work. Thanks again Aston and good luck!
Description of Work: Aston removed old Wainscoting from the front of our one story ranch home in Orange. The area was appx. 40ft. long by 9ft. high wiht several windows. We also asked him to change the entryway from brick to matching stucco. This was the front of the house and very visible from the street so it needed to come out good.

This is the 3rd time that I have used Aston, 2 of the times have been within the last 6 months. I have had some extensive home remodeling done in the past 2 months. During that time my contractors had to break out stucco to move the electrical panel and drill about 100 holes to blow in retro insulation in my walls. Both contractors said they have stucco guys that could patch for me but I turned them down for that part of the job. I decided that I would be using Aston again because of the quality of work he performed on the first 2 jobs that he did for me. He has mastered the skill of being able to blend the stucco so you cannot even tell that there are patches in the walls. He is always punctual, up front about all his work, and honest. Since this was the third time I used Aston I knew that he would not let me down with the quality of work I was looking for. The entire job went smooth from start to finish as in all the other jobs. He is very fair with his prices and has a no B.S. policy which is one of his best qualities. Like in my previous reviews I would recommend Aston for any stucco repair job that you need. He does it correct the first time.

I had contacted a general contractor that advertised in our condominium newsletter primarily to replace interior drywall that had been removed during our electrical system upgrade. After the electrical work was finished, I wanted to close-up the exterior of the building as soon as possible, as this was part of the common area of the condominium and the interior drywall behind the electrical service panel had been removed and I wanted this unofficial "window" closed-up. The exterior was the most obvious place to close first. The general contractor gave me a price and I told him I wanted just this stucco job performed with the next week. Well, the general contractor did not return phone calls/text messages for about three days, so I went to Angie's List to look for a Stucco specialist in west Orange County, CA. I found Patchworks Plastering, emailed the company Tuesday late afternoon, and had a call from them within 3-hours. The company owner, Aston, was able to visit the next day as he was transiting my area between his base in Orange County and a job in Long Beach. I had a quote less than 24-hours after my initial contact and the price was within $50 of the price quoted by the general contractor that I had contacted first. The initial day of work was about 3-hours long and less than one-week after my initial contact with Patchworks, I had a closed-in wall around my new electric service panel. Aston made a 2nd visit about 2-days later to apply the final touches to the stucco. When I came home from work after that 2nd visit, I could see the artistic part of stucco work, the consistent texture between the old stucco and new stucco. After this wall is painted, it will be difficult to tell there had been any modifications made to my wall. Aston was very prompt in responding to my initial contact, arrived on time, and most important, cleaned-up very thoroughly. Stucco work is messy and a good contractor will clear the work area to minimize the side-effects of their work.
Description of Work: The stucco repair area was around the electric service panel that was removed and upgraded to 200A service. The new electric service panel is about 1-foot taller than the original 100A panel, so the electrician had to remove stucco on all four sides of the old panel, including about 3-feet above the old panel. This made clearance for the taller replacement panel, plus room to maneuver the power cables into the top of the new panel. Patchworks filled-in the open area around the new panel and roughed-up the stucco next to the open area to blend the replacement stucco texture into the existing stucco texture. The building that was patched is part of the common area of a condominium complex, so I wanted the end result to look good. I was taking the responsibility to eventually repaint the exterior wall of the building. I wanted a contractor that was based within 10-miles of my home in west Orange County, CA.

Aston was very prompt and professional in the preparation of his proposal and completing the work. When he came to our house for the original inspection before submitting the estimate, he brought photos of similar projects that he had completed and explained the process thoroughly and why he felt that his approach offered a higher quality completed appearance. Being able to see the finished results from a project that was very similar to ours gave us a great deal of confidence in what we could expect. I had already received one quote for doing the work, so I had a feel for the anticipated cost. Although I was originally anticipating getting a series of competitive quotes, after meeting Aston, it was clear that we wanted to give him our business. Aston showed up on time for both the estimate and the appointed work date. He was very courteous with my wife and careful in working around our house. He indicated what he needed in order to complete his work in a manner that would accommodate our schedule. The finished result was excellent - it blended with the existing stucco perfectly such that you couldn't tell that a repair had been done. We have other areas on the house that were repaired years ago with far worse results, so it was easy to draw a comparison. He cleaned up thoroughly after each phase of the repair. Aston also noticed that there were areas of the wall at the ground level where the existing stucco was being damaged due to our irrigation system, and he made several recommendations for steps to forestall further damage. The work was completed in the time originally estimated. There was one small aspect of the drywall repair that he needed to come back to the house to complete - but that was due to our not conveying exactly what was expected up front. He took care of this without concern and the finished result was exactly what we were looking for. We would definitely recommend Patchworks for any stucco repair or drywall work, and give Aston full marks for professionalism and quality workmanship. He was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Following the upgrade of the electrical service in our house, we needed to have the stucco repaired around the perimeter of the new electrical panel board where the electricians had to cut away the existing external wall material to access the cabling. The area of wall that was impacted was about 16 square feet. New waterproofing liner was installed before the application of the stucco compound. In addition, there was a small drywall repair job in the bathroom that needed completion. In order to repair a faulty legacy wiring job, the electricians needed to chip away some of the drywall around two outlet boxes. Aston offered to do this repair work at a minimal incremental cost. The total project took two days for completion.

If you are looking at my previous post you can see how I feel about Aston's work. You will notice that my reviews are pretty close together but the first review is from work he performed 2 years prior. I used Angie's list to get back in touch with Aston for this job that I needed done. There was no question that I would be using Aston to do the work because of all the compliments that I get on his previous work. When he came out to do the estimate it was like rehashing old times with a friend that you have not seen in a couple of years. He is a very personable person and a hard worker that has a no BS attitude. He told me how much it would cost me for my wall and I asked him when he could start. He started the next week and completed the job in about 2 weeks due to the couple of days of rain that decided to hinder the job. As in the previous job it looks perfect and I have had multiple neighbors inquire about his work because they have seen what he has done at my house. I would recommend Aston to anybody that needs stucco repair done. He is reasonably priced and gets the job done right the first time.
Description of Work: Apply stucco to the front wall of my garage that has wood siding on it prior.

04/2011 - Aston was professional and very easy to deal with on the phone, during the estimate, during the job and after completion. His work was exceptional and is probably the best stucco repair job I have ever seen. I have a second stucco repair job on another part of the house coming up in a few months and I wont need to look any further. Looking forward to having him back and do more stucco work for me. 05/2011 - I have used Aston for a previous job and that is why he was back to my house for project #2. On time, excellent workmanship. I have had people come over to see the job and no one so far has been able to tell where the new stucco ends and the old stucco begins. His excellent stucco work makes my tankless water heater install look like brand new construction. Thanks Aston !
Description of Work: Stucco repair / patch around newly installed exterior door and complete patch area for a tankless water heater install.

Aston was awesome to work with. He was very responsive when I called to have an estimate done where others kinda blew the job off because it was patch work. Aston was always punctual and working hard. Kinda funny but you know the man likes his job because he puts his Ipod in his ears and is singing as he works. I have gotten numerous compliments on the stucco work he did for me. He was done in a timely manner and always cleaned up before he left. My next door neighbor saw the quality of work he was doing and also hired him to patch some cracks in her house.
Description of Work: Patched the stucco around my recently installed doors and windows.

aston did all the work himself. he's very professional, clean, personable, punctual, and reasonable. he did the plastering the tradional way. took the time to wire correctly, patch any holes in the tarpaper, applied first coat one day and finished texture a couple of days later. wall and patch around the slider look professionally done. would not hesitate to use his services again.
Description of Work: installed a new construction patio door and a window in place of another pation door. needed to plaster around patio door and window. there had been an unsightly patch on the window wall and i wanted the wall to be uniform in appearance so aston plastered the whole wall.
