It was great to deal with an honest contractor.
Description of Work: I cannot recommend him enough. Extremely trustworthy and actually said I really didn't need his services. My stucco was in great shape and if I just painted it, it would save me thousands of dollars. He was happy to do the work, but showed such integrity with his advice.

I wish I had more work for Aston to do! From the 1st phone call setting up the estimate to finishing the job, he was totally professional, personable, ON TIME, CLEAN, did a wonderful job; great communication! I wish every contractor I dealt with was as professional as Aston, he could definitely teach some of the jerks out there a lesson! Thank you Aston! Job well done!
Description of Work: We needed to have the stucco repaired at two homes, one more severe that the other; we had had this same work done a few years ago, but the guy did a lazy job. Aston went above and beyond what we had anticipated would be done, with some large areas that were involved; each day the areas were left clean and he checked in so we would know when to expect him the next day. The job completed was beautiful!

The job went very smoothly. Aston was excellent at keeping me informed about his daily progress, and what would be happening next. He worked very cooperatively with the other sub-contractors I had working on the site. In fact, the other contractors were very complimentary of Aston; I think he may end being referred by the sub-contractors. When he finished, he cleared all his materials and the work area was spotless. I am very pleased with the finished product, and receive questions about the job from passerbys when I am in the front yard. I highly recommend PatchWorks; you won't find a better professional in this field or work. He is real fine, honest, affable individual.
Description of Work: I inherited the family home in Huntington beach. Previously the house had been texture coated and the exterior condition of the house was in a state of real dis-repair, particularly the stucco. I contacted Aston at PatchWorks for a quote. He responded very promptly and we met at the site within a few days. He really did take his time listening to me, what my goals were, and the timeline I had in mind. He was very patient and thorough about the different approaches that could be used to repair the house. The more we spoke, the more copnvinced I was that he really knew the stucco business and was quite capable of doing the work. In a day or two, he provided a very complete estimate. I had already received two other quotes and his was very comparable; not the least expensive, but his very professional approach was a key factor for me. His work included complete stucco repair tot he exterior of the house, matching the existing texture coat, and as an improvement to the house, the installation of a "Screed Line" (sometimes called a Drip Line) where the house structure meets the house foundation with a 2 foot moisture barrier.

Aston provided excellent service from the very first phone call to the e-mail to the actual appointment. He explained what he was going to do and did a fabulous job. He restored my faith in contractors by doing a professional job and he takes great pride in his work. I would highly recommend him. Even though this was a small job, he was very willing to do it, unlike other contractors who would not.

.Aston is a true professional. He kept me informed as the job prgressed both via e mail and by phone. He always returned my calls and e mails in a very acceptable timeframe. Aston is a throwback to the days when someone said what they were going to do, in a specific timeframe then did it! No hassles, no excuses. No hidden cost. He arrived when he said he would. He was never late. He cleaned up at the end each time he was at the house. To find someone with his work ethic these days is rare. In my line of work I deal with dozens of service people and construction people, if they all worked like Aston my life would be a lot easier. I would use him again in an instant and will recommend him to anyone.

I was referred to Aston by my plumber who recently completed some work on my house. My wife was able to send Aston some pictures via iphone as to the drywall that needed to be repaired in my garage. He responded promptly and gave us a fair estimate. We agreed to have him do the work and he was able to start within 48 hours. On the day of the job, Aston showed up at the designated time and we reviewed the job again while bringing up no "hidden costs" in his estimate. After speaking with him for a couple of minutes, I immediately knew he was an individual of strong character and straightforward in his business practices. He got to work and completed the job in a couple of hours. When we reviewed the completed work, Aston gave me a play by play summation of the work that was performed. He even showed me pictures on his camera showing me the steps that were needed to complete the project. I was very impressed with Aston and would strongly recommend him to anyone that needs drywall work. Aston is customer focused and provides excellent service and work.

You can read abut it on my description above.
Description of Work: Aston is a master of his trade. He provided us with the following services and he did an immaculate job; he was able to match the texture/pattern of our existing stucco 100% perfect. You could never tell that there was patchword done.Aston is an honest and focused worker and his price is just right! On the entire SIDE OF THE HOUSE he installed weep screed and broke out and demo'ed existing stucco to expose the homes framing floor plate, taking the the stucco up at least 18 inches to install the new weep screed the entire length of the wall corner to corner; he lathed the newly opened wall with new 60 minute paper and wire, caulking any holes in the paper etc to complete the water proofing. Applied by hand cement scratch and brown coats to the wall. FENCE WALL: On our short support block wall he scraped off any loose existing cement or stucco and washed the wall off. Applied a coat of Thoroseal water repellent sealer to the entire length of the wall. Once the Thoroseal cured he applied a skim cement brown coat to the wall. He then finished the newly browned wall the same way as the wall on the side of the house with the texture to matching perfectly.. FRONT FENCE WALL: In the front of the home on the same block wall starting at the front of the side gate, patch and finish the stucco to bring the existing stucco down to the ground level stopping behind the bush. PATIO: Aston patched up an unsightly hole that was left after a plumbing repair by lath, cement brown and stucco finish.

Don't be fooled by low-ball offers. There are guys who say they do stucco work and then there is Aston. He doesn't cut corners and you will be happy with the finished product.
Description of Work: I have called Aston several times over the years to have him stucco around newly replaced windows, doors and where other stucco work had to be repaired. He is professional and does excellent work. During one inspection, the city inspector stated that he had not seen workmanship like this in quite a long time. After looking at just one window preparation, he signed off on the work for the other windows.

I had initially contacted Aston to come and patch a hole left in my cieling after I removed a free standing fireplace. At that time he let me know that the cieling texture was not consistent with what a 1920's style spanish style house should have (it was 1970's popcorn looking stuff) - he let me know that the traditional look it that of a plastered, smooth cieling. It was not a hard sale, but more of an FYI from him to me. After considering the idea of plastering the cieling we had him come out and quote the job and we setup a date/time for the 2 days of work to be completed. Due to our work schedule, we were very particular about what time he needed to show up (basically a 15 minute window) - he was there promptly on both days and completed the work in a very timely manner. This was the first time that I had seen plaster work being done, and I can say that the potential for a huge mess is very high. Aston did a great job setting up the room - he padded the hardwood floors, had a ton of plastic on the ground and basically sealed the room off to keep the mess contained. When he was done, he removed all of his supplies and cleaned up the space nicely. The end product is fantastic! The room has regained the charm from the spanish style that it was intended to have. Working with Aston was a pleasure and we would strongly recommend him to anyone who needs plaster work. His quote was fair (and didn't change when the job was done)He was always on time and very responsive to phone/email inquiriesThe quality of his work was second to none.
Description of Work: Aston replastered the cieling in our 1920's style spanish home. The previous cieling was a textured relic from the 1970s. The job took two days and the end product was amazing. We recently had the room painted and received comments from the painters that it was one of the nicest (redone) plaster ceilings they had painted.

Dear Member, Thank you for your buisness and for taking the time to write a very detailed and complimentary report. Working on your vintage home was a real treat for me ! Getting to restore a lath and plaster 1920's Barrell ceiling to its former smooth finished glory is not something that I get to do everyday so it really makes me happy when I have clients like you who appreciate good work because who ever plastered your dining room with its curved smooth finished ceiling back in the day was a real artist ! and set the bar high So I'm glad I could meet your expectations !!!. AMAZING WORK!! Aston is the real deal!! He was on time, did exactly what he said he was going to do, and did great work!! We had a 6' x 9' hole (huge) in the middle of our wall. And after reading many articles on line I knew that stucco is a very difficult thing to match. I decided to go with Aston after he did his initial walk through and saying that too. As where other contractors just said "oh yeah no problem." He was here a couple of hours for each of three total days the job requires, and after the work has been completed, we cannot tell that there was ever as hole there. I would highly recommend him to any of my friends and family for future service.
Description of Work: I had a 6' x 9' ft (rectangular) hole in our garage wall, due to recent construction. He patched up the wall and was able to match perfectly the existing stucco to the old stucco. We cannot even tell there was a hole there.

Ashton was prompt in returning my call a few hours after I left him a message. The other two contractors I called did not return my call until the next day and the day after. He came out that afternoon and gave me an estimate and was back, on time, first thing the next morning to do the work. This was important as my house was in escrow and the repair need to be done before closing. He worked diligently and cleaned up the work area well when he was done. The repair looked fine and unless you looked closely you could not tell it had been repaired. He does not do painting, however, so I had to that myself, but I had the paint, the repaired areas were relatively small and it was easy to do.
Description of Work: I had to relocate a door and then repair the drywall in both the place it was moved to and the place it was removed from. The carpenters who moved the door would not repair the drywall.

AWESOME !! This review comes a little late ( the work was done back in Oct 2011) but thought I might share my thoughts on the stucco repair Aston did. He matched the texture perfectly and was punctual (Said he would be there at a certain time and he was), quick and cleaned up afterwards. It was a pleasure to work with Aston and would DEFINITELY recommend him to friends and family. Thank you.

An incredible job and experience! A professional in every aspect of the job. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He is personal and a professional in his interactions and backs it up with a quality job. This was our first time having any sort of water damage in our home. We had already worked with several emergency vendors to fix the plumbing and remove the drywall. They did an acceptable job but with little to no communication. We still had this gaping hole in two of our walls and what felt like a lot of work remaining. We wanted to have the work done as soon as possible. I was tempted to take a couple days off of work and do the job myself. While putting in drywall is not too difficult, it is an art to tape and texture a wall. I wanted my wife to look at the walls without any trace that there was ever an issue. That takes a professional. I really did not want to deal with more vendors. We contacted several drywall and painting professionals through Angie's list on Sunday evening. I received an email and phone call from Aston first thing Monday morning. He was out to visit us that same morning to provide us with an estimate. Having to go back and forth from work, it was nice that he was able to provide me an actual time to meet me instead of a 2 hour window. He was nice and extremely professional. He walked me through the process, communicated cost and that he could complete the effort the following day! Knowing that we also wanted someone to paint, Aston was upfront about focusing on his craft and what he does best. That was acceptable to us. I also talked through concerns I had with existing issues with the ceiling from the house being painted some years back. He explained why the issues were occurring in such a way that it gave me confidence that he could easily address them. Aston was on time the following morning. He took care to cover the few pieces of furniture even with them clearing being out of the way. I went to work with a gaping hole in two walls and came home to a job very well done. I had seen several poor patching jobs in my early 20s as an apprentice carpenter. His job was nothing short of brilliant. I was taken back by how well an unfinished wall could look. He took the time to completely texture the walls (top to bottom) to ensure a seamless transition. There was absolutely no evidence (as hard as I looked) of a patching job. He fixed the errors in the ceiling caused by errors from the previous paint job. Here is what took me back... he also repaired several other cracks and taping issues that we did not discuss during our walk-through. His comment to me that he was already there working on the other issue and it seemed a natural progression to address the other items. Wow! The room and the few pieces of furniture were free of dust. The floor was swept and clean. There was no debris from the new drywall, taping or texturing. The experience was easy... it felt good... it turned out good. We could not ask for more.
Description of Work: Replace a section of the drywall removed due to water damage Tape and texture the wall to ensure that the texture on the new drywall blended in with the texture on the old drywall (an art) Fix a cracking seam along our ceiling created by a bad tape job by the former painter used when we originally moved into our home

Aston was very prompt each morning and communicated well via email. It took two full days to complete the project and we are happy with the results. Since he does his own work, we were confident in his estimate from the beginning. We would use him again for other projects should they arise. I believe he also does stucco repair and drywall patching as well. Our project changed the look of our living room from outdated to fresh and classic. We love the way the new fireplace looks and are happy to see the 70s orange brick go.
Description of Work: We hired Aston to plaster (the original lime/gypsum material) our outdated brick fireplace. We had several estimates and liked the fact that he did his own work and wasn't going to use drywall compounds or exterior stucco to achieve the look we wanted. He applied the catface texture to our existing brick fireplace. Note: He's also from England, where this is a common trade. In the States, it's harder to find someone who know what you're talking about when you mention "plaster." Most think of drywall mud.

If all you want to see is very short review of how Patchwork's (Aston) did...in a nutshell, fantastic. A more thurough review is as follows. i hopped on Angie's List and checked a couple of different stucco guys. i own/operate my own machine shop, and do ALL of my own work, so when i saw that Aston at Patchwork's operates his business in the same way, i gave him a call (if your work has your name on it, it stands to reason that no one has as much invested in the end result as you would...that's my reasoning anyway). i already had a number in my head (my brother the contractor told me about how much it should cost to have it done) and figured if he (Aston) came in under that number (about $1,000.00) the job was his...as you can see, he came in at $975.00. My biggest worry/petpeeve about stucco patching, is when you can actually see the outline of where something was patched (even with a fresh coat of paint over it)...i hate that, it looks so cheesey! Anyway, that was not the case at all with Aston, his work was fantastic. Aside from the color difference (he just went with white stucco, because i will be having my house painted soon), you cannot tell where he did work at all. i would have written this review long ago, but being stucco, i wanted to wait for cracks to develop (which they did), and i wanted to see how quickly he would get to them, if at all. He was pronto with the rework, and again, you couldn't tell where the rework had been done, it all flowed together very nicely. He did not charge for the rework (obviously...he does guarantee his work), and he banged it out quick, clean, and efficiently. Quality work! He is very professional. Cleaned up after himself very well (stucco can be messy work). And aside from being professional, just talking to him, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. All that being said, i've already contacted him for a few more things that i need to be done (more stucco in other places), and if ever i need something else done in the future, i will not hesitate to call Aston...you shouldn't either...quality work.
Description of Work: i swapped a 10' wide sliding glass door for an 8' wide set of French doors. Also (no more then three feet away from where the slider was, there was another (standard) entry door to our backyard, which i had framed in and sealed. All of this work was done by my brother (contractor) but he didn't have time to do the stucco work. There was also a small (roughly) 6" x 6" square where i removed an outdoor electrical outlet, and needed that filled and stuccoed.

Aston was very professional, kept everything in order and great clean up when he was finished.. we were so pleased with the work we had him repair another small area where a gate was recently installed against the house.
Description of Work: we had an area of stucco adjacent to our front door that was pealing. Aston stopped by to look over the repair and provided a full estimate. He returned after we approved the work.

The entire stucco repair job was expertly, quickly and well-done. Aston was very accommodating, pleasant and easy to deal with. We had a large area on the side of our house that needed stucco patching. We feel grateful to have found Patchworks!
Description of Work: Aston tore down the rotten stucco wall that was on the side of our garage and applied new stucco to the side of the garage. He also installed new vents and copper weep screed and applied cement scratch and brown coats to the newly lathed wall.

Aston Hill was one of the most professional service men I have ever worked with. He provided a written honest estimate for a small job, then showed up on time, did the repair quickly, cleaned up the work area and was pleasant to work with. I would highly recommend Aston because he is conscientious and honest.
Description of Work: Aston Hill repaired drywall on a bathroom ceiling from a leak upstairs. I contacted 4 drywall contractors on Criag's list. He was the only one who came to the house to provide an estimate. The other contractors I contacted made a swag guess over the phone on the repair costs which were rediculous. Aston followed up with a written email confirmation and showed up on time for the appointment. He replaced the cracked dryall, patched it and then retextured it to blend in with the existing texture. The work was done quickly, the repair looks great and it is ready for paint.

I am a single female and public school teacher and recently bought my first home. The home is in worse shaped than I originally anticipated which has caused tremendous anguish and stress on my behalf. Unfortunately, I have not had the best experience with contractors and handymen and have become quite skeptical as a result. When I first read the reviews for Aston, I had a feeling he would be professional and skilled in plaster and stucco. After meeting him and spending almost an hour going through my house, I can easily say that Aston is one of the kindest and upfront individuals I have met. He is very honest, professional, trustworthy, and knowledgable! He spent time helping me understand what I needed to do and steps to take in order to prioritize so that I can start comfortably living in my house. He was easy to talk to and explained everything in detail, which in the end, made me feel completely comfortable and confident with him. After I get some other termite and electrical work finished, I definitely plan on hiring him to do some plastering. I am thankful for his time, honesty, and the degree of skill he brings to the lath/plaster trade.

The process went smooth and he was able to start very quickly. Finished the job on time as promised.
Description of Work: I bought an old house in Orange and it needed some plaster repairs from a few pieces that had fallen from the ceiling and number holes and cracks in the walls from the old owners. I called Aston because he was recommended by a supply warehouse that sells plaster material. Aston was a great guy and was able to tell me the process and was very organized and clean. He took very good care of the hard wood floors that I just had finished. I was so worried about scratches on the floor and their weren't any. I recommend Aston to anyone who needs good plasterwork!!! He will be doing more work in my house as time goes on.

Dear Member, First thank you for your buisness and kind words !! It was a real pleasure to work for you on your new craftsman home, Vintage homes like yours require that extra T.L.C that newer homes do not ! and most new owners of dont understand, they usually get talked into making repairs with drywall and finishing with orange-peel textures etc because the contractor can't plaster. I applaud your commitment to restoring your home to its fomer glory using original hardware and marterials etc to recreate the original look and feel of the home, and taking time to find Craftsmen like myself who are trained to do this type of work. I look forward to working with you in the future as you continue to restore the house, and I wish you well in your new home. Thank you again for your great report and the work. Aston did an excellent job. I can't believe how well the new stucco blends in with the old. You can't even tell there was even a hole in the wall and that it was patched. He was repsonsive, on-time, and delivered an excellent job as promised! I will definetly use him in the future and recommend him.
Description of Work: Patched a couple stucco holes that were made from plumbing work and termite repairs. About 3 x 5 all together.
