I had some extensive electrical work done and as a result needed inside drywall repair as well as some considerable stucco work outside where the panel had been replaced. I called Aston and he responded very fast and came over to see what I needed. He took the time to take photos of the work to be done which assured me I would get an accurate estimate. The next day I received a detailed estimate by email and we talked about a start date. He was responsive to the schedule I had and came out to begin the outside work so it would be closed up in case it rained. Our schedule was controlled by the electrical inspections that were required by the city and every time I called to say the inspection was done, Aston made a point of being available to continue the stucco work. The entire project was done in a very professional manner and his expertise in this area of stucco and plastering is obvious when I look at the finished work. He took time to clean up the work area every day and also made the calls I needed to the City to request the inspections of his work which all went well with no problems. On the inside work the electrician had to cut holes in the ceiling to get to the wires to install the recessed lights, and after Aston finished the drywall and plastering, you really cannot tell there had been any holes at all it matched so well. I would not hesitate to recommend Aston to my friends and to call him if I need any additional work done.
Description of Work: Repair of holes in ceiling from having recessed lights installed, repair a wall in the TV room, and repair the a substantial hole in the outside stucco where the new electrical panel was installed.

The entire project went very smoothly and looks great! We wanted a quality job done since it is in our highy used patio and that is exactly what we got! Perfect!
Description of Work: Aston repaired a 2 foot by 20 foot hole in our outside stucco in our patio. He perfectly matched the new stucco with our existing stucco. He was very neat and respected our patio and cleaned up nicely. It was so nice to deal with a professional craftsman who views his trade as an artist would. If you enjoy listening to a British accent as we do, you'll enjoy him thoroughly! Thank you Aston!

From the first contact, Aston was the picture of professionalism. After our initial phone contact, he arranged to come to our home the next day to assess exactly what needed to be done and give us an estimate. He took pictures of the damaged areas and said he would email us with a confirmation of his initial estimate which he promptly did. We then arranged for an approximate date for the actual work on our home. Aston promised to call with a specific time the Monday of the following week which he did. On the date of the repairs he was delayed a bit but called, apologized and arrived at the adjusted time. He was trained as a plasterer by his father in England and it is certainly apparent that he takes great pride in his work. The quality of his work is excellent...he took the time to texturize the plaster to match the existing plaster. When he left you would never have known we had work done in our home that day...he had cleaned up and all that gave away the work was the walls that were drying. Thanks you so much Aston. You were able to make something we had dreaded doing very easy.

We?re very pleased with Aston?s service. Everything from his professionalism, punctuality, responsiveness, quality of work, and price. We approached Aston by requesting an in-home estimate. Aston picked up his call and was able to schedule an appointment with us within 1-2 days. On the day he came out, as many contractors typically ran into throughout daily routine, Aston had a bit of delay. He promptly called us to let us know and then informed us actual time that he could show up. Things happen all the time, and we really like how proactive Aston was about this type of things. And then he showed up promptly as the time he promised. The estimate was throughout. Aston took photos of the doorway, walls and other details so that he could properly record everything that needed to be estimated. He left by saying that he would get back with a quote within 1-2 days timeframe, in which he very much did so. We were very happy with his professionalism and right the way made up our mind hiring him for the job. Aston did a very good job overall. For example, he made sure to cover up our furniture, floors, and walls, in order to keep our house clean. He cleaned up after himself at the end of each day. The whole job took about 4-5 days to complete. Everything was on track as Aston promised. When he showed us the final product, I couldn?t be happier with what he did. The plaster wall was smooth, seamless, and our house remained very clean. After Aston finished the wall, we had to wait for a couple of weeks for the wall to dry. We didn?t know when it?s a good time to paint over the plaster, so we had to ask Aston. He promptly returned phone call and provided us with detailed instruction about what to do. All in all he did not just finish the job and left us alone. Aston is by far one of the most responsive and reliable contractors we have ever met (for sure we didn?t met that many.) I would highly recommend Aston for friends, families, and others. Thank you Aston!
Description of Work: We hired Aston to take out one of the doors in a bedroom (originally the bedroom is a walk-through), and then re-plaster the wall to match the rest of the walls in the house. Aston performed demolition, wood framing, and plastering to accomplish this job.

we own a 1920's home and we've been renovating it for the past two and half years. we are ready to re-stucco soon, and decided to sign up to angieslist for good stucco contractors. after a quick search, i found this contractor, among others. i read many of the reviews and decided this guy would be great to work with based on experience, specializing in old homes. and excellent reviews. i called both numbers listed. no answer. left messages...waited. called one of the numbers again the following day. no answer. left a third message. waited....... it's been over a week and guess what? NO call back from this guy. such a disappointment. Reply to response from Patchwork's Patching Specialist: i think you missed the point of my review. this is what a company with GOOD customer service and professionalilsm would have said: "sorry i did not reply to your calls and messages." (notice, no excuses) "would you give us another chance? perhaps another call and maybe an email? i would like to show you that i can make this situation right. in kind regards, aston.c.hill"

Dear Member, Thank you for taking the time to write this report to vent your unhappiness because your calls were not returned by this guy. First let me say that I take great pride in my customer service, and go to great lengths to be as responsive as possible to all my clients in a timely fashion and Not just Angie's list members, which I think is reflected in the other 63, A grade reports on my profile. I do offer 3 options for members to contact me, the two numbers you called and my email, Which you did not use as I'm sure you thought leaving phone messages would be sufficient ! and normally it would be. As you know we live in a world controlled by devices that sometimes don't record complete messages ! Or static on the line makes it impossible for the recipiant to decifer the message thats left so they can return that persons call , But I'm sure thats never happend to you. Reputation in business and life is everything ! And I do value mine very much ! ! So I thank you again for taking the time to post your F grade report, And in closing I must say that I would rather receive an F grade for not returning a phone call I didn't get ! Than one for poor quality work !! I'm very sorry to have dissapointed you ! Even though we never spoke, And I wish you well as you move forward with your project. Angie's List is quickly becoming my "go-to" site for home repair companies. When I read the reviews for Patchworks Patching Specialist I knew that I had to at least get an estimate from this company. A message left for Aston Hill was returned the next day and we agreed to a time for him to visit. Aston arrived promptly at the agreed upon time and then I pointed out the areas that needed repair and we discussed how it was to be done and the time frame. The quote arrived the next day laying out exactly what was to be done. Aston clearly states that he is not the least expensive stucco man out there but previous reviews on Angie's List attest to the quality of his work so we decided to hire Aston for our job. We agreed to a date to start work (a Friday) but on Thursday Aston came by the house to ask if he could do the work on Sunday since he had run into some delays on a current job. Sunday was fine with us and promptly at 8:30 Sunday morning Aston and a helper arrived. His work is everything he said it would be and we definitely pleased with the results. Let me say in closing that if every small construction/repair business in the United States was run in the same manner that Aston runs his, having home repairs would almost be a pleasure.

If you want someone who not only has the skills, but also has "old school" honesty, professionalism, pride in owning the job as well as integrity then look no further the Aston Hill. The site was left cleaner then when Aston arrived and he wasn't done with the job until it met his high standards. Aston didn't try to "sell me" on anything that wasn't needed and I'm extremely satisfied with the finished product. Without a moment's thought I would recommend Aston Hill for any of your stucco needs. Above all Aston kept in contact with me as he fit his schedule into mine. Finally, Aston produces a final product that he would do on his own home and therefore will accept nothing less on yours. Thank you Aston for making my job seem as the most important one that you had to do
Description of Work: Aston Hill ( Patchwork's Plastering Company ) was referred to me by the electrical company that had replaced my electrical panel. I followed-up with a review of his company on Angie's list. The reviews were very impressive. Aston came out to review the work that needed to be done and at once I knew I would hire him due to his professional mannerism, he arrived on time, contacted me prior to coming as well as what I had read about him on Angie's List. He was very knowledgeable on what needed to be done and gave me an approximate time schedule. Aston returned a couple of days later to take out the stucco to the existing studs as required by code and lay in the lath. The inspector from the city was so impressed with the work done by Aston in preparing the surrounding area of the electrical panel for the stucco that he stated that no further inspection would be needed as he often did to insure that the final job met all code requirements. Several of my neighbors have come over to see the final work and honesty have had a difficult time trying to see where the original stucco and patchwork actually come together.

Aston did a great job. I got 2 estimates prior to beginning this project. The other estimate was half of Aston's, but the guy didn't sound at all like he really knew what he was doing. Aston was able to specify exactly what needed to be done and why. To comply with inspection requirements in Yorba Linda he had to come back multiple times (due a little, get an inspection; do a little more, get another inspection). It was obvious it was a quality job with no issues getting the sign off from the inspector each time. He also was careful to clean up thoroghly each time he came out. I would definitely use him again for stuccoing jobs.

Aston was absolutely awesome to work with. I scheduled my first appointment with Aston but had to cancel when the roof work I had done myself did not solve the leak that caused the damage in the ceiling in the first place. I had a roofing contractor fix the roof and rescheduled with Aston. Aston was MORE then happy to work around my schedule. He is a pleasure to work with and will happily use again if I ever need any plaster work done.
Description of Work: I had an approximately 2' x 2' area of water damage in my ceiling that was there when I purchased my house. Aston came and patched and textured the the damaged area to match the rest of the ceiling.

If you need a plasterer, at the very least, have Aston check your job and give you an estimate. He is prompt, knowledgeable, and a superb craftsman. Our project required several days of work and at the end of each day, the job site was clean and debris free, and ready for the next day of work. Plus, at job completion, there were no remaining loose ends, he handled it all just as contracted. Braovo Aston! The end result is representative of his skills being at the highest level. Aston is a professional and takes his work very seriously. As to his pricing, his is not the cheapest, but most certainly is the least expensive. He shows up on time as planned, prepares for each days work with exacting standards, and does exactly what he says he will do, and that is, give you the highest quality job attainable. On top of all that, he is a gentlemen that can be trusted an all counts. Our experience with Aston leads us to state, unequivically, that Patchworks is that rare contractor who deserves an A+ rating, and should be on your list to call for guidance for plastering and wall repairs.

The short version: If you want a perfect plastering repair job done on schedule with no worries or mess, Aston Hill is your man! Difficult or unusual reqiurements? No problem! I have a 1926 home with lath and plaster walls, some with unique finishes. Over the years I have had a few repairs done and in so doing have had experience with having this kind of work done. Many people will tell you they can do the job and then either don't do it correctly (finish doesn't match existing) or send someone who says it "can't be done". and propose a make-do workaround. I love my 20's vintage home and want to preserve it's original features. Aston came out to assess the job (yes, he made a special trip just to do that, a significant investment of his time, with no cost or obligation on my part). He treated my small patching job with the same attention as if it had been a major contract. He promptly emailed me an estimate and then followed up with scheduling and completing the job. I can't say enough about the quality of the work and the care shown to protect surrounding areas and leave an immaculate condition. (and kindly worked around my cats, whom I had to herd from room to room). OK - here's the frosting on the cake, totally above and beyond!! To my dismay, within two days of the plaster repairs (over electrical work, remember?), I had an electrical problem (doorbell failed, these wires were in repair area). I emailed Aston and immediate reply was "Don't worry!, whatever needs to be done to fix will be taken care of". And it was!! Absolutely NO discussion of fault or responsibility. Aston returned with an electrician (at his expense), determined the problem AND PROCEEDED TO OPEN UP THE AREA and had the electrician completely rewire, then Aston returned to repair the wall. Yes, AGAIN! (and even cheerfully) Summary - I wholeheartedly recommend Aston Hill for any job you have in mind. At first I balked at the price, but decided to look at the cost of getting a specialty job done right, NOT the cost per hour". An experienced professional can get the job done quickly and correctly, isn't that what we all want? As it turned out, I definitely got more than my money's worth.

Aston is one of the best craftsmen I have ever met. He worked with his father in this field as a child, and learned the proper ways of his craft, old school with no cheap shortcuts. no trash was left around and everything done first class. Astons repair work is superior to the way the house was built, I could not be any more pleased with the repairs. George
Description of Work: He Scrape the loose decayed stucco from the front wall of the house located under the front windows, working left to right away from the front entry door stopping on the corner next to the driveway. Washed the wall down to remove any residual loose stucco and dust etc, then apply a coat of weldcrete cement bonding adhesive (Blue Glue) to the newly prepped wall. By hand he apply a cement brown coat to patch the wall to act as the new base coat for the stucco finish. Once the cement dried he cured finish the newly browned wall with La Habra base 100 white stucco with the texture to match the homes existing sand finish, texture as closely as possible. All work areas were covered with protective plastic, paper and tarps. All of the trash was cleaned up at the end of each work day and on completion of the work

See above, I already wrote about how it went overall as well as what was done.
Description of Work: Aston has now completed 2 jobs for us and patched both interior & exterior holes. The interior holes were patched with lath and plaster and the exterior holes were patched with stucco. Some of the holes Aston patched were quite large (approximately 3 feet by 6 feet) but the small and large ones were both patched equally well. Aston comes over to evaluate the job and make suggestions, then he writes up a quote and does the job. Simple as that. Unlike other people who have done patchwork for us before (brought on by plumbers or HVAC folks) Aston is appropriately licensed and learned his trade from his dad. That's right - he does the job himself instead of coming over to sell you his services and then sending over some dudes you've never seen before (and won't want to see again.) He probably isn't the cheapest patchwork guy you will find BUT at least you won't have to worry about stucco that cracks in a few weeks and interior holes patched so roughly that you'll have to spent hours sanding them before the area can be painted. If you want the job done right, then hire Aston.

When we bought our home in 2008, there was a cabinet in our room addition that the previous owners had built. When we remove the cabinet, we found that it was covering a brick outlay were they had removed the outdoor built in BBQ, but never finished the plaster wall. This wall has continually nagged me to repair it. In the past I had recieved estimates up to $3000.00 to repair. I finally decided that it was time to get the wall repaired. I logged on to Angies list, and after looking at 2 other contractors, noticed Patchworks Plastering Co, owned by Aston Hill. After reviewing all of the outstanding comments other members had given Aston, I contacted Aston on 11/18/2012 (a Sunday afternoon) looking to scheduled an estimate. Aston came to my home that day looked at the wall and the other small area that needed repair. Aston stated that he would give me an estimate to repair by Tuesday. True to his word, I recieved the estimate and could not believe the price quoted. It was more than 2/3d's less than other contractors had quoted me. Based upon other members comments, I emailed him back immediately offering the project to him. Since it was Thanksgiving week, I expected that we would not be able to schedule the job until some time the first week of December. However, he had an opening for 11/30/2012 and we scheduled the project. Aston confirmed the project the night before and arrived on schedule at 8:30am. Aston preped the jobsite by laying down contruction grade project paper to protect my wood floors, drapped plastic over everything that potentially could get covered in dust. He did the work, and you would never know that behind that plaster wall is a brick wall, the remnants of an outside BBQ. he completed the other small repairs quickly. What impressed me the most was he was extremely tidy with the work. He ensured that the work area was cleaned. When he was finished everything was put back to it previous position and you would never even know that he was there. He is extremely professional, affable and answers any questions you may have about the work he is doing. Even when I asked him a really stupid question, he was professional in describing the steps of the work. At that point I decided to let the professional work. Every positive comment made about Aston is WELL DESERVED!!! I wish there was a score above A because he definitly deserves it. I am preping my home for a complete exterior overhaul and Aston already has the project and he hasn't even bidded on it yet. If you are in Orange County and you are looking for plaster or stucco work, Aston is your professional. Great work, reasonable prices and above all, EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE (which in itself is hard to find) Donald Kilgore .

From quote to job completion, everything went very well! Aston came by and listened, offered suggestions, and provided me with a verbal quote. We then agreed on a day for the work to be performed, and he followed up with an email confirmation and written quote. Aston showed up on time, did a great job on the patches, and cleaned up after himself too! It was refreshing to work with a contractor that actually takes pride in his work. Although, there are many things that are important about a job, if the quality isn't there, everything else really doesn't matter.

I told the entire story above. Aston Hill is an accomplished and efficient professional who I would use again and certainly recommend to anyone!
Description of Work: Aston Hill repaired a gaping hole across the ceiling of our den which is the size of a single car garage. It had been caused by water damage from the bathroom upstairs. He was punctual, professional and extremely capable. He told me every step that he would do in preparation of repairing the hole (which went completely across the ceiling of the den), protection of the home while he worked, and what to expect when he was finished. He shot on the plaster so beautifully that we don't even need to paint the ceiling at this time. While he was there, I also asked him to repair some water damage, which I thought would just be more plastering. He explained that this would require stucco to do it correctly so he needed to get those supplies as well. It turned out perfectly as well. He also worked with my grandson to move furniture out of the room before the plastering was done. To top it off, he came back a couple of weeks later when we called him and helped my grandson put the large treadmill back in place in my husband's den!! All in all, we had an excellent experience with Aston Hill!

Aston arrived on time in the morning. Before the patchwork commenced, Aston covered the work areas with protective plastic, paper and tarps and cleaned up all trash upon completion of work. We are very pleased with the overall results. We will call Aston again for any plaster work in the future.
Description of Work: After a plumbing repair, there were two fairly large holes in the garage. The hole in the wall near the floor was patched to leave a smooth finish. The hole on the soffit was patched and finished to match the existing acoustic finish. Behind the wet bar in the family room, the bubbled plaster from the two areas at the bottom of the wall were scraped and then refinished to leave a smooth finish.
