After a plumbing repair, I needed someone to patch the hole in stucco that was removed by the plumber. It was a small job approximately 1' x 2'. In checking Angie's list, I came across Patchworks Patching Specialists. The company received great reviews and they specialized in small repairs. I called the company late Friday afternoon and left a message. My call was returned by the owner, Aston Hill, that night at 7:00 p.m. I never expected a return call until Monday. What a pleasant surprise! Aston asked me to take a picture of the damage and to email it to him. What a time saving idea since I didn't have to make an extra appointment just for the estimate. After viewing the picture, Aston gave me a quote and we settled on date for the repair. Aston showed up on time and got right to work. He protected the concrete area beneath the patch with plastic and tar paper. He brought everything he needed so there was no down time and no upfront charges for materials. Aston guarantees his work and will return if there are ever any problems. The new stucco patch blends seamlessly into the old. You can't see where Aston patched the stucco; a sign of a professional job. After completing the patch, Aston cleaned up and you couldn't tell he was ever there. It was obvious that Aston takes pride in his work. You can see it in his work ethic, his professionalism, and the finished product. I will definitely use Aston on my next stucco project.

Aston was prompt, professional, and eager to get the job done quickly and well. We were in a bit of a time crunch due to the fact that the condo was going into escrow soon. Aston was very accommodating and sympathetic to this, and the work came out great.

Aston was very prompt and provided excellent communication. He said he would email me and he did. Aston came out promptly for an estimate and agreed to do the work the next morning. He arrived at the time he promised and was very polite. He and his son setup carefully, protecting my floors with several layers. He used my hose and made sure to put it back as it was. I'd highly recommend Aston for small and large jobs.

My experience with Aston was great. He is very friendly and forthcoming, and he does very good work. He is timely and thorough. He was sure to mask everything before treating the walls, and thoroughly cleans up afterward I found his pricing to be fair. In fact, I had erroneously assumed that the project included texture coating the walls. I later found that this was not in the original bid. After consulting with Aston on this matter, he kindly offered to do the texture coating at a reduced rate, even though it meant re-masking everything he had previously covered. I was impressed by his professionalism and quality of work, as well as his flexibility in working with his customer. I would certainly recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Provided resurfacing service to three existing walls in my bonus room. I had removed adhesive-backed wall covering, which left the existing drywall in very bad shape. Aston's proposal was to: Erect a scaffolding to reach the peak of the rooms front gable wall, then by hand scrape off any residual loose drywall paper, Glue, or Drywall mud from all of the rooms newly stripped walls where the room's interior existing wood siding finish had been removed. Apply a coat of plaster weld, plaster bonding adhesive to all the walls that are to be plastered, then while the adhesive is still wet and tacky, apply by hand a skim brown coat of Structolite lightweight brown plaster to act as the base coat for the finish coat. Finish the newly browned walls with two coats of finish plaster leaving a hand-trowled smooth finish. Due to a misunderstanding on my part, I had to later request that Aston also texture coat the finished product wit an orange peel texture to match the other walls.

Aston was able to come the very next day, which I was extremely appreciative of- he arrived right on time, was very professional and set right to work. He did fantastic work in a very reasonable amount of time and I was charged exactly what he quoted. I truly wish all my dealings with tradesmen and craftsmen went this smoothly. I am extremely happy with both the work and the professionalism, and am 100% sure I will contact him the next time we need anything plaster related in our home. I will also recommend him enthusiastically to friends and neighbors. Really great experience!
Description of Work: I asked Aston for a quote, as I had a small amount of holes in the plaster in my 1923 home and I worried he wouldn't be willing to help with such a small job. He was very responsive, had me send him pictures of the holes and was able to give me a fair and reasonable quote right away. I was VERY happy.

Dear member, First, Thank you for your business ! The small jobs are just as important as the larger ones ! and it was my pleasure to do the work for you. Our contractor hired two inexperienced stucco guys to patch our exterior stucco after some extensive remodeling. Our painter suggested we hire someone to correct the stucco job, before spending a ton of money painting our home. After reading a zillion positive Angie's List reviews for Aston Hill, I called him. He said if he didn't think he could make our stucco look better, he wouldn't give us a bid. He asked me to text him some photos, then came out for an estimate the next day. Aston's bid was higher than I'd hoped, but I knew after talking with him that he could refinish our stucco, get it ready for painting, and it would look perfect. Aston Hill is everything you read about him in his Angie's List reviews: He's a gentleman, he's honest and forthright. He brings his own hose and he cleans up at the end of each work day. His final day of work, he asked me for a rake so he could clean out some stucco debris that had landed in a planter. My husband and I are so pleased with the stucco work Aston did for us. Our stucco finish is called knock-down, which is tricky and demands an expert technician. Aston Hill is just such a technician. I plan to call Aston for drywall and orange peel texture when we remodel our upstairs bathrooms later this spring. He assures me his orange peel finish is exceptional, and I have no reason to doubt him!

Dear member, First, thank you for your business ! I know you have a lot of choices of where to spend your money and I will be the first to admit that I am not the cheapest guy out there ! But my goal as always is to give every client a great job ! At a fair price that will at least leave you feeling that this time your hard earned money was well spent !!. I really enjoyed working with Patchworks (Aston). He suggested a smooth finish and arranged for me to see a job he had just finished. He does beautiful work and takes care to make sure the customer is happy. My ceiling looks great but we did hit a bump in the road when the painter came and noticed that some areas were not as smooth as they should be. Patchworks had finished late in the day and the lighting was not great I guess. So I called Aston and he bent over backwards to make it right for me. I can't say enough about his attitude of making the customer happy (like me). You really know how good a contractor is when something goes a little wrong yet they respond and correct immediately. I highly recommend Patchworks and Aston :-)

Dear Member, Thank you for taking the time to write this report for me, And for your patience and understanding when things didn't go quite as planned ! It was completely my fault that the ceiling was not up the par the first time round, the light in the kitchen was bad at the end of the day (Curse Daylight Savings !!) But I should of checked it on Monday morning first thing, so I dropped the ball and for that I do apologize as my goal is always to get the job done right the first time !!! I was taught the measure of somebody is not so much how they act when things go well ! But how they act and if they step up to the plate and take care of buisness when things don't go well, So thanks for giving me the chance to put things right and I'm glad your pleased with the end results. It was my pleasure to work for you and your husband, and to be part of your remodel team , The kitchen looks Amazing !! Again, Thanks for your business !! The job would would take 2 days since the stucco could not be applied until after the cement dried for at least one day. He came out on a Sunday to do fill the outside hole and apply the cement, so he could finish the inside and outside the next day. The next day he started on the inside repairs to the holes in the ceiling and was meticulous in using plastic covering to keep the plaster dust from spreading outside the working area. His work was very professional and of the highest quality. I asked him to apply a texture to the ceiling where he made the repairs using a spray-can product, but when that didn't work, he volunteered to get his equipment and spray texture on the areas, making the repalirs almost invisible. When hie applied the stucco outside, he selected a color very close to the existing stucco so it very nearly matched. His approach to applying the stucco was to go beyond the hole area so there was no evidence of a patch, just a slight color difference. I had a chance to see my plumber after the holiday and he saw the work and was so impressed with it, he wanted to have Aston's contact information so he could recommend him in future jobs where plumbing repairs would require drywall work. I was very impressed with Aston's work and would be happy to recommend him.
Description of Work: Repair of large holes in drywall and stucco made by plumbers having to reroute water lines. Aston Hill came out, provided estimates of what was needed, preparations, materials, time and costs. He gave advice on what to watch for if someone else was to do the work and committed to do the job before the Christmas Eve which was in 4 days. I didn't want a rush job but his knowledge and experience was convincing that he would do a quality job and get it done quickly.

and I was extremely please with Aston Hill (Owner). He responded to my call very promptly and arrived the next day for evaluating the work required and estimated the cost of labor & materials. On a handshake we concluded the contract and settled on next day service. Ashton arrived on time and with all tools and materials, did an excellent job of installing lathe and mortar, clean-up and said he would return on the 29th to lay stucco. Again he was right on time, completed the stucco and did a through clean-up. My relations with Aston left a very good impression of a professional contractor who is proud of his work & cares very much about pleasing his customers. I would recommend him highly to anyone seeking his line of work.

It was a multistep process that started with prepping the area to keep house clean in the process, removing switch plates, receptacles, masking windows, floors... Then a coat of adhesive, then a brown coat, and then two coats of plaster. There was a lot of intricate work around arched windows and entry ways. Aston was always on time, cleaned up after himself each day. He is friendly and clearly explained the job and set my expectations. He did what he said he was going to do. I have some smaller jobs coming up and will utilize his services again.

Aston was very good with communication all along, even though we had delays as we tried to work with the electrician to acknowledge the poor work done, and then had to delay the work due to scheduling conflict. Aston knocked out the bad repairs, and as I watched him re-doing the lath I could already tell this was going to be a top-notch job. He took the wall repair out further than anticipated to properly tie in the lath to the studs (compared to the electrician who just shoved paper and wire mesh into the hole). Aston was very careful to prevent splatters and clean up the area when he was done. The stucco finish work was so well done and matched the existing texture that, except for the fact it had yet to be painted, you wouldn't know that the wall had ever been knocked open. I will definitely hire him again if I need any wall repairs done.
Description of Work: Demolish and replace incorrect lath and concrete wall repair performed by electrician who upgraded our electrical service panel (approx 12 sq ft of wall), as well as repair a hole in wall around front of house.

I called Aston, he came out to give us a price, he started work that week and finished it all in one day. The stucco texture matches perfectly to the old stucco so once it is painted no one will know there was a hole. Bottom line, Aston was clean, quick, professional, polite, and is certainly a master of his craft! I would undoubtedly recommend Aston to anyone and everyone.

Aston was responsive and got back to me with an estimate in the proper amount of time. He gave me the quote, explained all that was necessary and we scheduled the appointment at once. The day of the appointment he was running a little late and called before the expected time to explain and arrived when he said he would. He completed the job in a timely fashion and cleaned up properly. My electrician, who looks at a lot of patched stucco around electrical boxes, said it was a "great" job! Aston is a friendly, experienced, knowledgable and honerable man. If a tradesman feels, for any reason, he would not be the best for the job and declines it, he should not be punished for his honesty. Since his reason for declining the job was he was suddenly too busy to accept another job, getting back with an estimate for a "non" job quickly seems a counterproductive use of his time. I agree with the other reviewers and gave him all "A's". Whoever gave him the "F" has obviously never been ripped off by a substandard contractor.

Aston is VERY professional and personable and I would not hesitate to contact him for future work as I think he really knows his trade. His price was very reasonable compared to the other bids we received from other plasterers and General Contractors. The reason we did not contract with Aston was we decided to work with one General Contractor to do everything to vs having to interview and hire all of the sub-contractors ourselves = plumber, electrician, A/C, cabinetry etc)

Later that day we got an e mail from Patchwor/Auston saying that when he got back he found three e mails accepting jobs from previous bids, so he would not be available for two weeks, therefore he would not be sending me an estimate, but please consider him for future jobs. I wrote back saying that my project was on hold waiting on electricians to do their work first, so it could be up to two week, so please provide a quote, even if only for cost comparison . I waited five days with no response. On day six, I wrote back asking if he could respond either way. Auston/Patchwork wrote back sayng he would not provide a quote due to his busy schedule. In my e mail I had stated that it would be a courtesy since I too gave my time to accomodate his early appointment and now waiting for his response. In his response Auston stated he was sorry I felt my time was wasted, yet. still feels that his time cannot be spent providing me the quote that had been promised by him. I wrote him back and let him know that I got his name from Angies list and that when they ask for a review , I would have to let people be aware that despite making an appointment for a estimate and keeping the appointment with the service provider, that does not guarantee that a quote will be provided. So I did give Auston/Patchwork a heads up that I would be writing this review. It would not occur to me when making an appointment,, that it does not mean you will get the promised estmate .. I found the whole thing unfortunate for everyone. Perhapas it was a choice Auston made of not wanting to do this particular job? If that wer the case, I would have prefered to know that up front, instead of loosing the week waiting on the bid. This whole thing baffles me.
Description of Work: I scheduled a free estimate with Patchwork/Auston after reading very favorable reviews on his work. He requested a early 7:30 appt., which I accomodated for him. He stated he wanted to come early to beat the traffic to his next stop. He arrived on time and we reviewed the job. Hementioned that because of the weather, his next job was on hold, not able to work in rainy weather.. Very polite and said he would get back to me with a quote.. Later we saw him still parked outside in his truck, so we figured he was preparing our quote.

Dear member, Thank you for your feedback regarding me not submitting an estimate/ quote for your job ! I realize in hindsite that I dropped the ball by not responding immediately to your second request for the quote even though I had previously contacted you the same day of our meeting to remove myself from consideration for your project because of my schedule. I should have gotten back to you straight away,!! not 6 days later letting you know once again that I didn't have time to do the quote, and that I do not provide quotes for Jobs that I am not going to do so you can price shop other contractors. In this enconomy its hard enough for a contractor to get a job ! And bidding against somebodys numbers who is not even competing for the job I feel is unfair to the other contractors who are. I will use this experience as a learning tool to improve my customer service and communication ! And even though I am dissapointed that you were unhappy with me and graded me an F, I do take comfort in the fact that The F grade was not for my work. Once again I wish you well as you move forward with your project. Sincerely Aston.C.Hill (Patchwork's Owner Operator)

After I called him for an estimate, he came, on time, the next day. He knew exactly what I needed, and sent me a full estimate by email the next day. Nobody else got back to me in less than a week. However, I decided to do a small addition and some structural work so I needed to use a general contractor. I just wanted to give him thumbs up for his promptness and professionalism, thanks......

Had a couple spots on opposite corners of my home where the foundation had settled, causing the stucco to crack and break apart. I called Aston (on a Friday), and he was able to come out later that day to take a look and give me an estimate. Since it was a relatively small job he had time to do the work the next Saturday morning. He showed up early as scheduled and was finished by noon. I was so relieved to finally get the problem fixed. Both areas were patched up very nicely and it's a big improvement! His rate was very reasonable, and he's a very pleasant person.

Aston was extremely professional, courtious, responsive and prompt. We were very happy with the way the ceiling turned out. We have a good size family room and it was a 2 day job to do the work. It went well from the estimate to the finished product. If you are looking for a craftsman and not just a quick patch then he is your guy. You pay for the quality of the work you recieve, but it was well worth it. I cant recommend him more highly

Very professional and clean work. Finish the job as promised. Aston always leave the work area very clean at the end of each day. The patch work was very nicely done considering I have smooth stucco. I would definitely use Aston again for any future stucco repair work.

This is my second time using Aston and from initial contact to the finish of the job things went very smooth. The end result was fantastic, as usual! I called Aston to schedule a date to patch my wall. He called back the same day within an hour, but unfortunately I was not available. Rather than play phone tag, he suggested we communicate by email, which is perfect for me. I sent him an email with a brief discussion of the work to be done and we scheduled a time for him to come look at and bid the job. Once on site, Aston looked over the proposed work and provided me with a verbal bid on the spot. We scheduled a day and time for him to do the work and when that day came, he arrived early and ready to work. He made an extra effort to cover or tape off anything in the area that would be exposed to the work he was doing. Within a couple of hours he was finished and he cleaned up the entire area completely. I inspected the job, which was great! I paid him, we shook hands and he left. Here's what you will get when you hire Aston, someone who will work around your schedule, care for and protect your property, provide an honest no nonsense quote, do high quality work, and clean up and leave your house how he found it. Take time to read the reviews and you will come to the same conclusion the rest of us have, Aston is the one you should hire.
Description of Work: I just upgraded my electrical panel and moved it from the inside of my house to the outside, which left a large hole in the wall inside. Aston patched this hole and a lot of smaller holes in the same area.

I contacted Aston by email, which impressed me right from the start. With many contractors, it's difficult enough to get someone to answer the phone ... and email always feels like a black hole, even if a contact email is provided. I heard back from him almost immediately, and we set up an appointment for estimate the next day. Aston arrived exactly when promised. He was pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. He took his time looking over my project and explained to me very clearly why he wouldn't recommend spot fixes in this particular situation. He also offered me some helpful suggestions. Overall, I was incredibly impressed. He could have come in and charged a bunch of money for work we didn't really need, but he didn't. He was also friendly, punctual, and extremely profession ... and, perhaps most important to me, responsive.
Description of Work: I contacted Aston regarding some minor stucco repairs on the outside of my house. Based on our consultation, and his advice, I decided not to get the work done; however, based on the experience, I would call him back for another job in a heartbeat!
