Description of Work: This cannot describe the unprofessional and disrespectful tone of voice of one of the cleaners nor can it show the arrogance of Mauricio. |Mauricio was reluctant to make a late afternoon appointment to do a one time deep clean on my 750 sq. ft. home but we finally agreed to 2:30, which required that I leave work early, an big inconvenience to my job. It was during a heat wave so I arrived about 20 minutes early to open and cool my home for the cleaners but they were already there, parked in my driveway, blocking my garage and front door, causing me to park in the street. After they were done we checked the work and they cleaned any missed areas. When we got to the stove, the English speaking spokesperson said "Mauricio, he no tell us." I insisted that Mauricio agreed that the stove would be cleaned so they did it. I had other encounters with her where she argued and tried to explain away why she did not do something, always with "Mauricio, he no say". I wondered how someone so unprofessional and disrespectful to her employer could remain employed. I soon knew why. The next day I noticed more places they missed: dust behind doors, dirty window sills, one half of a book case poorly dusted while the other half was well dusted, and the inside of the oven vent had not been cleaned. I spoke to Mauricio who said he would send better cleaners to do the work but it had to be before 2pm. He became irritated and indignant when I said I could no longer leave work early and that I would not let them be in my home without me. We compromised on a late afternoon time but he did not tell me that those previous cleaners would do the cleaning although I had stated that I did not want them back. Once again I arrived home early to cool down my home for the cleaners only to find them parked, again, in front of my home, blocking my garage. It was around 100 degrees that day and they were waiting on my porch. As soon as we walked into the house, the spokesperson said "What you want us to do?" while the other two got right to work dusting the bookcase. I called Mauricio to complain about the cleaners. He loudly spoke over me, arguing that it was all my fault because the better cleaners do not work late, something he failed to mention when we made the appointment. When I mentioned the cleaners arriving so early and waiting in the heat he argued that I should not concern myself with them and that they had a new car and could sit in the car with the a/c on. I hung up and took the head cleaner into the kitchen and showed her the vent. With a smirk she pointed to the top of the vent, I pointed to the inside of the vent. She said, "Inside? Mauricio, he no say." I insisted so she pulled out from her pocket a can of something, told everyone to leave and began spraying the vent before I could open the window and door. I began coughing immediately and left the kitchen. One cleaner stayed in the kitchen but coughed so badly she finally left. The spokesperson came running out upset because the paint on the inside of the vent liquified and began running down the sides of the vent. She accused me of using something to clean the vent that caused her spray to react badly then called Mauricio who accused me of the same thing. No, I did nothing to cause a problem with the paint: my cleaning supplies are safe and mild as my chemical allergies and asthma do not allow for harsh chemicals. The rest of the cleaning was not completed as we all left the house until it was aired out and safe for me to reenter. I am reminded of the worst cleaning service in Garden Grove, CA every time I look at my ugly vent.

Good evening [Member Name Removed], after reading your review I have to say that we obviously both have a different recollection of what occurred. Ill be honest I cant remember every detail hence it has been almost a year since we cleaned your house. Ill start with your comment that I was reluctant to have an afternoon cleaning; At the time we only had certain hour gaps to clean your house and in fact I am positive we gave you a couple options but they were not going to work with your schedule. You mentioned you could do 2:30pm which was one of the gaps we had available. You did mention you could just leave early from work, but never did it seem like it was something that was that of an inconvenience for you. The girls had arrived early and they waited in the car, if they had blocked the drive way they would have moved the car for you. When I told you that they were there and you mentioned your concern about them being in the heat, I let you know that it wasn't a big deal and you didn't need to rush and yes I mentioned they had a new car and they were sitting inside with the A/C. In regards to the Vent it is a she said /he said situation. I was not there and the girls mentioned that you had them spray inside the vent with bleach or what ever chemical you gave them. They let you know that the paint was melting off or falling off and then they stopped.The smell of the spray you refereed to the first time they went was easy off and they used that inside the oven. The first time we sent 3 girls and you did a walk through and afterwards you said everything was fine and we left. When you called again and let us know that you were not happy we agreed to send the team again. You had mentioned that the vent was not cleaned, the stove was not moved back into place and that one of the shelves was not clean the same as the second. I believe that there was a miscommunication on the inside of the vent because I had not included that in the price, but we did it anyway for you. The one shelf had books all over and that was our fault for not clarifying with the girls that you wanted each book to be taking out and cleaned, but we corrected it. I do ave to clarify that we sent 2 of the girls that had gone before and the 3rd one was a new team leader, but it was the best we could do at the time because of our schedules. I was not upset that you could not leave early the next day, but all we had was morning availability to go clean and you wanted us to fix the items the next day so we were trying to do our best to accommodate you. [Removed Member Name] I thought we had resolved the issue and in fact you told the girls everything was fine. I even recall talking to you afterwards and asking if everything was okay, but maybe you and I didn't talk but I know the team leader did ask you if everything was fine and you said yes. I may have sounded a bit irritated at the time, but I think that you were also not being easy to work with. We definitely did our part and our best to keep you happy, I do apologies if I came off as rude, but due to the circumstances it just came out that way. Again I, we as a company know we did our best to make everything work. I don't understand why now after almost a year this is coming up, but again if i came off rude my apologies, but in regards to the work we did do our part. Description of Work: The cleaning was excellent. However, there were other problems. I had a whole house cleaning. There was a large crew that came in waves for different parts of the house or aspects of cleaning. The problems were a TV and all 4 burners on my gas stove that did not work after cleaning. Also, items, including some that were medically necessary, were moved from their original locations. Brian left midway through the cleaning and I had to call him several times both on the day and the following day. I had recently had surgery for 2 broken wrists and was unable to deal with non-working equipment or relocated items. Also, the plastic liner for my kitchen wastebasket was not replaced. I caught the problem with the television before the cleaners left and it was fixed, although the person who fixed it initially tried to blame the TV or satellite service. I caught the problem with the stove and plastic liner when they had left the house but were at their cars. Three of the 4 burners were fixed. Brian offered to come the next day and, if he couldn't repair it himself, call someone at his expense. I told him all equipment should have been checked by his staff before they left. I also did not like that the cleaners took it upon themselves to move or rearrange my belongings without consulting me, especially since I was there the whole time. The next day, when I discovered that medical care items were not where they should be and could not locate them, I again called Brian. I did not like his attitude. First, he told me I needed to be more understanding. No. His crew needed to be more understanding, especially when the client was unable to use her hands. When he then told me I needed to be "more appreciative," I lost it. The client does not need to be "more appreciative" after paying $500 for cleaning. I was not informed that they would take it upon themselves to move things from their original locations. At this point, I used an expletive and hung up. I did not have Brian come to repair the 4th gas burner, which still does not work. In the intervening days and weeks, I have had difficulty locating other items that were moved. Further, Brian quoted me $135/visit to have my house cleaned twice a month. I have since hired the house cleaners my 2 neighbors have used for years for $100 with the same frequency and am very satisfied with them. I could not type this review earlier until my hands and wrists were stronger.

Dear (member name removed), Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We have read it carefully and would like to clarify a few things. Yes, you are correct we did send a large crew as it was a large Villa Park home and needed a lot of work. Brian immediately noticed that Barbara couldn't use her hands and therefore wasn't able to have her home picked up and ready for us to just clean. The crew had to pick up and move things around in order to thoroughly clean (normally we ask our clients to pick up so that we can focus on the cleaning). We apologize if things were not placed back in their original place, the crew did the best they could under the circumstances. The T.V. problem was simply a lose wire in the back, we tightened it and the problem was solved. The stove top was taken apart to clean thoroughly and the pilots got wet during the process, this happens and it is not a big problem, they dry up and they work fine. However, Brian did mention to Barbara that if they did not work he would stop by the next day and fix or replace them if need be. When Barbara called the next day regarding her missing medication, she was initially very furious and even used the "F" word and hung up before Brian could explain that the person who cleaned the bathroom had simply placed the medication in the medicine cabinet in order to clean the bathroom thoroughly. Description of Work: I will hire them again. My only disappointment is that the crew sent out was limited to what the owner checked off on his check-off sheet. EX: I wanted them to remove the grill on the refrig so they could clean it, and clean the floor beneath better; crew said they could not because they couldn't chance damaging my refrig. Immediately I realized unless the owner checks it, they can't do it. Next time I must be much more detailed with the owner since crew cannot make any decisions themselves. Probably a good policy for liability and for cost of a job for the company; I'm just used to cleaners who can decide on their own how best to clean and I will have to adjust to that.

Description of Work: I contacted Stephanie Lara of Magic Touch during the early part of the week of August 29, 2011. I did this solely on the other Angie's List reviews. We initially scheduled a meeting for her to walk through the house to give me an estimate for an initial cleaning to occur on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM. She then called to reschedule because of a conflict. We ended up meeting on Friday, September 2, 2011. Stephanie was nice, but gave me a high quote of $350 for the initial cleaning. I felt that although the price was high, I would get a lot of things done that I cannot do as a result of a shoulder and back injury. When she left, she said she'd call with a date or two. She proposed Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM. I accepted, and called to confirm. Unfortunately, Stephanie did not correct her records to reflect that I had confirmed the date. She then went on a trip and upon returning, found that her brother had booked another client for my time slot. She called to inform me of this at almost 9:00 PM on September 14, 2011, but I did not get the message until September 15th. When I called and was told what happened, I was pretty upset since this is the second scheduling screw-up. I felt that if they couldn't make calendar entries very well, they might not be all that great at housework. She got a little defensive when I expressed my dissatisfaction, and to be fair, she offered to have a crew come on the 16th, but I had already made plans. So, even though she told me it was an honest mistake, which I believe, I had lost faith in the company. Her brother surely could have confirmed with me that I had reserved that date before reallocating it to another client. He didn't even try. I have shied away from family businesses in the past, because when something goes wrong, there is reluctance to fix the internal problem. This would appear to be another communication breakdown, at the very least, and inadequate standards as well.

Unfortunately, we had to reschedule our estimate appointment with you because one of our employees mother past away. Therefore, Stephanie was called into work with the cleaning team that day. We want to thank you for understanding the situation and rescheduling the estimate appointment. We are sincerely sorry for the scheduling mistake.There is no justification for the mix-up with the scheduling for the initial cleaning visit, however, Stephanie did offer to clean your home on the 15th as well as on the 16th, but unfortunately, you did not want anything to do with our company anymore. The fact that we are a family business would have allowed us to clean your home yesterday even after the mix-up. As Stephanie mentioned to you, we were willing to go clean your home on the 15th when you called after 1p to confirm that you were expecting the team. Nonetheless, when Stephanie asked if you still wanted to have your home cleaned you said no and hung up.
