Because of the positive reviews on Angie's List, I contacted Horizon for a quote for new countertops and cabinets for the kitchen. Enna was nice to try to rearrange another appointment to accommodate my schedule. But she told me nothing was set til she could confirm with the other party and she would call me back. After not hearing from her for 4 days, I emailed her to say I had not heard anything, and if it was not possible for them to meet, that was fine but please let me know. She called me back and said let's go ahead with the appointment. Mark showed up to give us the bid. He was pretty punctual but the guy who showed up at our house is not the same one in the reviews depicted on Angie's List. He didn't introduce himself or give me a biz card. I only know his name because I had to ask him for it (toward the end of an appointment that didn't go very well). It was like he didn't want to be there and he told me the job was too small for him (installing granite countertops and either refacing or refinishing cabinets). He said he'll only take on the job if I agreed to let them do both. If I wanted to do it separately, it would cost an additional $1000. I was very honest with Enna on the initial call that all I was interested in was the countertops and cabinets for now (although I do want to do the lighting and the painting and the flooring at a later time). Enna was trying to talk me into redoing the floors in the first conversation so maybe when Mark came, he was under the impression we were doing everything in the kitchen. It was almost like he was disappointed by the smallness of the job and I felt he was not approachable. When I asked for him to email me a written estimate, he told me that he noticed I had already jotted down some figures (which I did sporadically onto a notepad, but nothing at all detailed). It didn't seem like he cared about getting the job because it's too small for him (which is fine) but I've never had a bidder who refused to give me a written estimate whether it be for plumbing or roofing or painting, etc. The appointment lasted only about 25 minutes long but it was apparent we would not be a good fit. He did show me (on his computer) some work they did for other homes and the work looks very nice. But I feel if one is undertaking a large task that costs so much money, it needs to be a compatible relationship or at least one where communication can easily flow, which I didn't feel we had in this case unfortunately.

Dear member, Thank you for being so grateful about us accommodate your schedule and even Re scheduling another appointment because of you!!! Thank you!!! also, Thank you for mentioning how we accommodate your time and came long after business hours - at 8pm. Because this was the only time you and your husband get home during the week days. Thank you for NOT mentioning ALL this effort!!! You can see on our Angie's List profile page - We do have a minimum job! and your project is less!!! You can also see it on the other Reviews mentioning the cost of their projects - Yes your project is SMALL!!! Even though , we came ! and gave you VERY FAIR PRICES!!! WE GAVE YOU A PACKAGE DEAL for all the items together!!! in case you would like to do just one item, you cannot use this DEAL! and the price going up. This is the meaning of PACKAGE DEAL!!! Sorry, you did not understand that - but i really don't know how else or BETTER can i explain it!
Called Enna and Mark at Horizon who had done a major exterior renovation for us in October to see if they could help. Even though this is a much smaller project then they are normally used to they enthusiastically agreed to do it. Mark gave us some ideas on the final texture surface and color and we agreed to proceed. Horizon was able to start within a week and the crew that came out was friendly and very professional. Overall job took about a week as each coating required a day to cure and we also had to take a 2 day break for a late season rain. While my wife and I thought the results were fine, Mark noticed during his final inspection a couple of blemishes in the paint/finish and had the crew come back out again and touch-up some areas. Really, if Horizon can't please you, you can't be pleased.
Description of Work: We have a small second floor deck off the master bedroom @ 40 sq ft that leaked whenever it rained. The poorly designed drainage system was a hole in the deck wall that was positioned higher than the center of the deck. Leaks were in and around the garage below and more troubling, the electrical service compartment.. Horizon demoed and hauled away complete deck surface. Installed new decking with a slight slope to center which included a center drain and 2" drainage piping. New flashing. Applied new waterproofing system, black paper, fiberglass, cement, filler and paint. Also final texture. Stucco patch and touch up.

Thank you for the kind words, It was a pleasure working with you!
Horizon consists of Mark, the owner, Enna, the office manager, Eli, the forman and about 14 other workers who are on the regular payroll. They are licensed and pay workers comp and seem to treat their workers well. All of the workers were courteous and hardworking. Mark helped with design decisions and went with us to the showrooms to pick out tile, granite etc. He made special arrangements with the tile store to get the contrasting tile we wanted for the masterbath shower even when it was out of stock and had to be rushed in from Texas. This made a big difference since this tile looked perfect with the other things that were chosen. He supervised all of the work and made sure it was well done. The quality of all of the workmanship was excellent. When some of the decorative tile in the kitchen backsplash didn't come out looking the way we thought it would (eg. it didn't match well) he had his workers redo it and when it still wasn;t right they redid it again. In the end everything came out looking absolutely beautiful. The masterbath looks better than the finest hotel. The workers did their best to clean up everyday but, with so many different projects going on in the house it was always dusty and hard to keep things clean. I would recommend doing one project at a time. Work went fairly quickly, considering all we had done. Enna coordinated everything and kept us informed. Mark was willing to negotiate costs with us. Before we started we had several estimates for the kitchen area. Mark's was competitive and reasonable. As we added projects, we didn't have other estimates to compare and some of Mark's proposals seemed high to us. He was willing to negotiate and the overall cost of the projects seemed fair considering the high quality of the work. It is important to have the scope of the work clearly spelled out and all of the costs before it is started to avoid misunderstandings. Because we had several projects going at the same time and things were moving so quickly we did not always do this, which resulted in some misunderstandings. These were resolved to our satisfaction, without too much difficulty. In summary, we are very pleased with our remodeling job. Everything looks absolutely gorgeous and was done with a high quality of workmanship. Mark has said that if anything breaks down, cracks or has some defect that he will come right over and have it taken care of. He also has a policy of giving you a discount on future work if you refer new customers, which we will be glad to do.
Description of Work: Kitchen - Remove old cabinets and flooring, install semi custom cabinets, new sink and new window. Fabricate and install new high quality granite countertops. Raise ceiling and install new recessed lighting. Take down wall between kitchen and family room and replace with large island with cabinets. Tile floor in family room and redo fireplace with natural stone and granite. Cabinets all have pullout shelves, self closing drawers etc. Doing the floor involved taking out the old satillo tile, which was a lot of work and putting porcelain tile with a contrasting border of designer quality. The old brick was removed from the fireplace and the exterior was redone. Everything was then painted and pendant lights were installed over the island. This part of the remodel was about $40k. (We supplied the sink and faucet and drawer handles and pendant lights) Living room - Take out old carpet and satillo tile and install new engineered wood floor. Tile entryway with tile and contrasting border. replace baseboard molding. Removed old in-the-wall speakers and wire new speaker wires in the wall (so they didn't show). Patch up holes in walls left by repipers. during prior plumbing repair. Install chandalier and wall sconce lighting. This was about $11k. (We supplied the chandalier and sconce, speakers and wiring) Downstairs bathroom - Remove old flooring and vanity. Tile floor with porcelain tile, install new vanity and granite countertop. (This was about 1k). Master bathroom - Take out old carpet, toilet, vanity, tub and shower enclosure. Rebuild tub area into beautiful walk in shower with a seat and custom tile, install glass shower enclosure. Install new beautiful cherry double vanity, new sinks, faucets, mirror, medicine cabinet and lighting. Install new natural stone flooring in bathroom and walk in closet. Install new toilet. Install pocket door between bathroom and bedroom. Redo baseboards and crown molding. Paint everything. This was about 19k. Thank you both for the kind words. Your project was a lot of fun and the entire team is happy with the final outcome. It is a home to proud of.
The remodeling went very well. Mark was very creative in improving our basic design, and he was most helpful by accompanying us to the show room to select tile. The work went smoothly and on schedule. We had only one small problem but Ell, Mark's foreman, resolved the problem quickly and completely. We were particularly pleased with the work of Enna, the office manager; she took care of all the paper work and checked in with us daily to keep us informed as to the progress and future scheduling. We are satisfied with the work and highly recommend this company.

Arrived on time, very professional, reviewed work requested, came back 2 days later with written quote and would work within my timeframe (2 weeks out). Quote was explained well as well as projected start date (based on both my timeframe & contractors). Asked for references including ongoing projects - no problem after getting customers OK. Would definitely use them for future projects, did not use them this time due to personal contractor personality preferences with another contractor - this takes nothing away from Horizon, as I said I would and probably will use them in future.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I made an appointment with them for today, April 6 about 10 days ago. Because they seemed to be highly regarded I decided to wait the ten days and delayed the demolition of the kitchen so they could get a better idea of how we would like our kitchen done.About the same footprint just wanted it to be updated. They said that they would like to have my wife and myself present at the estimate but did not say we BOTH had to be there. I told them my wife just gave birth and did not feel well due to complications from the pregnancy.I said she would do her best to be there. They called me the day of the estimate to verify the appointment. I told them I would be there but my wife was still feeling ill from the pregnancy and was pretty much bedridden. Enna of Horizon, said that they would "reschedule"(cancel) the appointment for another time. I told them that I wanted to make a decision this weekend on a contractor and I did not know when my wife would be better. She just said again they would "reschedule" for a future time. She said that is the way they do business.Enna added that they state on their website or on Angie's that both the husband and the wife have to be present at the estimate. I don't see anything explicit on the website that it is mandatory for both the wife and the husband to be present! If so be explicit about it, especially when there is a good chance my wife may not be able to go. Also I told her I didn't want my newborn being put into an environment where other work on the house(ceilings just been textured)might affect them. Again, my pleading fell on deaf ears and she refused to send anybody to do the estimate. Things happen and people get sick. So what if my wife couldn't show up. I know what she wanted as we have discussed the remodel in detail. That shows a lack of flexibility on their part and that trait may come out in the work they perform. Most importantly this shows a total lack of professionalism to cancel at the last minute which may also be reflected in their work. I just want people to know my experience. From most reviews they seem to do a good job, but unless you fit a certain type of profile or fit their ideal customer I think you will be out of luck to even get an estimate. I really wanted to have them do work on the house, but I guess I just didn't qualify as a "preferred" customer.

We hired Horizon Construction to draw the plans for our total home remodel. We sent them a bid proposal for the contract that detailed what our expectations were and short list of what we were looking for in the design. They returned their scope of work that included the Craftsman design we were looking for. We accepted their bid, but when we went to sign the contract, we were given a different contract that indicated that Craftsman design would be an added expense. We asked several times how much more this would cost. Mark said it would be determined by how much ?Craftsman? elements we wanted. We made it clear to Mark that this is a fixed price contract and that any changes in price would have be negotiated. After signing their standard contract, we met with the architect. We told the architect what we wanted and that the only Craftsman elements we were looking for were tapered outdoor columns and specific window and door moldings. Neither Mark nor the architect asked what our budget was at any time during this process. Remember, these were only sketches and then eventually blueprints for the county. In less than 24 hours we received a change order for $1500 and a statement that in order for them to go ahead with our project this needs to be signed and returned. This change order did not detail what exactly we were going to be paying for. We could not understand how two elements could cost so much to draw. After several email requests between us and Enna, Mark was contacted to clarify the justification for the cost of the change order. When we finally received this detailed account of what we were paying for, it included hours of work for design and structural for several other requests in the home we talked about with the architect. Some of the items listed we never asked for, like high pitched gable roofs. Other elements were not specifically ?Craftsman? such as open floor plan, balconies, siding, porches, or a few more windows. We tried to discuss this with Enna but they were insistent that this was not a surprise. They also continually stated throughout this email exchange regarding the change order, that they ?could not move forward on our project? and that we were putting them behind in their other work because we were taking too long to sign and return the form. We responded that we could no longer work with them and since no work was done, we wanted to cancel our contract and have the deposit returned. Enna responded, indicating that they did work on our project and that the deposit is not refundable. She went onto say that if we wanted out of the contract we would have to pay for the work they did. They sent us an additional bill for $ 400. This bill indicated only the architect visit [quantity 1] and ?work hours? for Mark, the architect and engineer [quantity 7]. We agreed to pay this if a lien release was also included. They agreed to these terms. When we went to give them the check, we asked for the work product that was completed. They took the check and gave us only the lien release.
Description of Work: No services were performed. We contracted with them to develop drawings and plans for construction. These never materialized and contract was ended.

You had more than 1 MONTH to study the contract. We send you the contract on January 31, 2011 You signed the contract on February 22, 2011 The contract indicate specifically: "Craftsman Design - NOT INCLUDED. Cost to be calculated according to final design. Will be provided prior to work (you asked to add this sentence to the contract!). we don't know how more specific or clear we need to wright it! After the meeting with you & the Architect we were able to calculate the cost for the Craftsman Design based on ALL the elements you wanted or needed. and again, this is Exactly what you signed on. this is Exactly what the contract says!!! we send the change order like mentioned in our contract & were surprised that you act like it is a surprise!!! when it is mention BLACK ON WHITE in our contract Craftsman Design - NOT INCLUDED. the funny thing is that you knew what are you signing for, because you had our contract for 1 month before signing but still you made big scene out of it! We are a professional company & have time schedule for each project, this why we were shocked of the way you handle the situation: did not email or call back for weeks. leaving us up in the air with your project: from one side we have our contract & we are obligated to time frames means we have to work on the project to be on time! and from the other side you are not replying means you NOT AGREE to something that was AGREED FROM THE BEGINNING!!! Not a pleasant situation to be in at all. We are fair, up front & vary clear!!! NO SURPRISES!!! We have great relationships with our customers and ANGIE'S LIST many "A" reviews are the PROOF for it!!! we know from what you told us that we are not the first company you tried to work with and it did NOT work out, probably the companies are NOT the only one to blame... We wish you good luck finding the right contractor for you!!!!!
They finished the job. They designed the kitchen cabinets to my satisfactory and designed them themselves. They did an excellent job of installing hardwood floors and doing some tile work. They had to knock out some walls in our kitchen and did a very good job. They installed granite in both the kitchen and bathroom counters. They helped me select some appliances for my kitchen as well. Everything went very smooth and they did an excellent job and I was very happy with the work. I was impressed with the designing of the place because I was not sure what to do myself. Mark, the head of the place, put together most of the custom design work ? helped picked out some colors for me. He has a great eye for color and my kind of taste. They were also prompt and they cleaned up very well. Enna went with me to pick out all of my appliances; stove, ventilation hood for stove, microwave oven, etc. I never had to go to home depot! The contractor, Mark, brought everything to me to approve; hardware, tile, curtains, lighting, etc. I approved everything and they did a very good job. He didn't ever charge me extra when he went to go pick out the materials. He wants the customer to be happy and I am!
Description of Work: They remodeled almost our whole house – kitchen cabinets, floors in three different rooms (about 900 sq ft), painting and electrical work, modified walls with texture, painting all of the kitchen with the gloss paint, opened up the kitchen pass-thru; after the walls were done, kitchen cabinets were installed including hardware and door closers. Backsplash consists of Ceasear stone and granite. Installed new granite countertops and kitchen bar pass-through. They added mirrors and vanities in our bathrooms and installed the plumbing and designed the bathroom fixtures and stalls. They also put in a new roof and air conditioner. They did some painting and some wood work, textured everything and replaced some insulation. Installed the lighting system of 7 new lights in the kitchen. Installed travertine floor tile in the kitchen and 2 bathrooms. New baseboards were also installed.

Thank you for the kind words. Your project was a lot of fun and the entire team is happy with the final outcome. It is a home to proud of.
enna was such a pleasure to communicate with, and mark and his team worked very efficiently. the quality of work done is great, and we trust them so much that we are using them again for another project in the next week. my husband and i were a little nervous as we had just bought our first house and didn't want to be overwhelmed by renovations (we've heard so many horror stories from friends and co-workers) and we had specific renovations in mind (with very specific visions of what our home would look like after the renovations were finished). of course there are things that always come up unexpectedly with inspections and as the work is being done, but mark and enna were very clear in their explanations of everything and never did my husband or i feel overwhelmed by the project. we absolutely LOVE our house now, and it looks completely different from when we had bought it. we were all shocked by the before and after-and those who come over and see pictures of the house before cannot believe the change. i am very picky when it comes to decor with a very specific taste and i couldn't be happier with the results. we will be using horizon for all of our future remodeling projects!
Description of Work: we had two walls removed downstairs, in the kitchen and dining room, with beams put in place as the walls were weight bearing. this also involved removing cabinets, carefully removing existing granite (so as not to replace granite all over the kitchen), relocate sink water lines, install and provide new caesarstone countertop (we added a long bar counter where the kitchen wall used to be), relocate existing gas lines in the kitchen area, provide and install drywall (which was then textured and painted) in the garage (extra structural work that came up during inspections), provide additional engineer work according to our city's requirements.

Thank you for the kind words, It was a pleasure working on your project! We appreciate it.
We had been using various contractors at our home for more than 10 years, and this experience has been by far the most positive. We found their professionalism, and responsiveness to our daily concerns during the project to be well above board. They were excellent in suggesting design or other elements as we worked with them on our plan. If you have some preset or previously considered ideas, they will help you consider their value pro and con and suggest very good additional ideas as well. All our concerns were addressed as we brought them up. The gentlemen who worked in our home were always very respectful and very good about addressing our concerns. The job was finished in almost exactly the amount of time that was projected. They were very gracious with us throughout the project and even were gracious with us as we postponed the initial job after signing the contract because we were not ready. I would recommend them to any of my friends and I think they would be worth anyone's time to at least have them give you an estimate. They are proud business owners and take great pride in every facet of their work and the job at hand. I do want to add one more thing. The finished quality of the work was definitely the best I have ever seen. From the finished grout lines to the amazing paint work, all of the job was really "A" quality.
Description of Work: We had our entire bathroom remodeled including counter, tile floor, tub and tile surround.
This experience went quite well. Horizon Construction & Remodeling was very helpful, efficient, and professional from start to finish. The owner, Mark Besnos was always available if we ever had any questions, and Enna Eskin, the office manger, was very helpful in keeping the project on track. The job was performed on time and within the budget we set up. They made sure we were satisfied before, during, and after the project was completed. We are going to be doing another bathroom in the very near future and will not hesitate to have Horizon come back and do that one as well. A+
Description of Work: The contractor, Horizon Construction & Remodeling, provided all services in conjunction with a bathroom remodel. They did the demolition, rough out plumbing and electrical. Framing, drywall repair and paint. Set tile on the floor and in the shower. Installed all our provided cabinetry, fixtures, lighting etc. They handled the city as far as the required permits and inspections.
First, I have to admit I am very picky. Most people would have given higher marks on the price and quality items, but I am used to seeing true custom cabinets and any time you spend close to $50,000 on a remodel, you think the price is high. So having said that, I can give Mark and Horizon my very best mark in that I would recommend them to a friend and I would hire them again for a project. Before meeting with Mark, we had an interior designer and a contractor look at the space. Our vision was to remove a structural wall to make a great room out of our separate kitchen and dining areas. The designer said it would cost $70,000 minimum to do what we wanted. The contractor said he would not even tackle the job because he was a one-man operation. We had another company come to look. The representative said the structural change was no problem, he pulled out a contract, and asked when they could start. When we said we wanted to get other bids and make sure we had enough money to complete the job, he exerted more pressure. I told my wife there is no way I would go with that company based upon his high pressure tactics. Horizon was the third contractor we had come to look. Their estimate was the highest of the three but it included paint. Mark met us at a tile store to pick out materials - which none of the others did. From the start he seemed to want us to be happy with the work. We were still hesitant, but when Horizon gave us a nice discount, we went ahead. As with all construction jobs on a 50 year old house, we had a couple surprises. The first and biggest was the condition of our galvanized pipes. We knew there were issues, but we did not know how bad the pipes were. The state of deterioration sort of forced us to repipe in the attic. It also added about $3,000 to the cost and gave us some plumbing headaches for several days. Mark had his crew come out several times to address issues with the plumbing fixtures caused by sediment from the old pipes. Once the plumbing was done, we had almost no issues with the rest of the project. Mark originally estimated taking six weeks from start to finish. We thought there was no way they could finish. Mark had a crew on site every day and they ended up finishing a few days early. In my experience that rarely happens with construction. Now, we are moving into the new kitchen and really enjoying our new great room. Mark helped us along every step of the way. We are happy with the project and confident Mark will stand by the work.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. Remove structural wall, install load bearing beam, remove flooring, remove cabinets, remove ceiling, copper repipe in attic and kitchen area, tile floor, drywall, lighting, backsplash, pour concrete in side yard, install new electrical panel, new cabinets, new backsplash, new island, re-install appliances.

While they were not the cheapest bid, Mark's explaination of the process and materials convinced us that he was more knowledgeable and that he could provide a better finished product. I recommend their services to everyone.
Description of Work: New roof, awning, and new electrical panel.
Horizon Construction was outstanding to work with from beginning to end. Mark Besnos is a visionary who does exceptional work. Mark and Enna (owners) were in constant communication with continual supervision to ensure quality results. They transformed a tired 1970's condo into a beautiful living environment. We will use this professional contractor again in our future remodel.
Description of Work: Remove popcorn. Install 4 skylights & 4 solar tubes. Install bamboo flooring & carpet. Install over 35 recessed lights & art lighting. Create a magnificent bar. Remove non-structural beams. Sand, prime, paint all doors & cupboards. Replace all molding. Remove all wallpaper & paint. Install kayak & bike racks.
They did tremendous work and they were on it all the time. They cleaned up after themselves and we couldn't be more pleased. They were always courteous and were honest. We would use them again and would give them our highest recommendation.
Description of Work: They worked on all the plumbing. They took out all the old pipes and installed new ones in the house and outside of it. They had to take out the driveway and they replaced it as well.

We had been considering an exterior renovation for some time. Our mid 1970's wood siding was looking weathered and our old aluminum windows were difficult to open and close and not very energy efficient. We were also thinking about enclosing a 2nd story deck off the master bedroom. Rather than splitting these into separate jobs with 2 or 3 specialty contractors we wanted to find a company capable of doing it all. After reviewing Angie's List we found Horizon Construction & Remodeling in Orange, CA. They had a lot of recent positive reviews covering a broad range of different projects. We spoke by phone with Enna Eskin, Horizon's office mgr, who spent quite a bit of time getting an understanding of what we wanted done. Shortly thereafter, we met with company owner Mark Besnos and discussed options. Mark was very informative and offered a lot of design advice in addition to his contracting know-how. At a 2nd meeting we reviewed Horizons quote and agreed on the scope of work and price. This was presented in a very professional written format. We did decide to exclude the 2nd story deck enclosure. Horizon had a crew ready to work 3 business days later. They removed the old siding and unfortunately did not find any plywood sheathing underneath. This, with a couple other things became Change Order No. 1. We eventually had a few more change orders for changes we requested or Horizon suggested but Horizon was able to stay within their original schedule of 4 weeks even with a few lost days due to weather. The crew was always at work early, every day. They were pleasant to be around. They were eager to make sure everything was done correctly and to our expectations. They did a pretty good job of managing the debris and cleaned up everyday. You could tell these guys took pride in their work. They spent 10 minutes on their final day taking pictures of themselves in front of the house. Window installation day came as a little surprise, about a 15 minute warning. It was a surprise because Enna was always checking in to see if things were going well and to let us know what the next stage of work was going to be. We would have preferred a little more advance notice and Enna apologized for that, but in hindsight, it was just as well we didn't know. They came, they installed and they were out in one day. No worries. We want to point out that we were so comfortable with Mark's soft-sell presentation, the Angie's List referrals, our gut feel, and the competence we perceived from Horizon that we accepted their proposal without any competitive bids! Could we have gotten better pricing? Possibly. But the fact that the house now looks great and the whole process was virtually stress-free made it well worth it. And while the cost turned out to be a little more than we'd planned to spend we feel we received a good value from Horizon. We'd recommend Horizon and would use them for any future work we need done.
Description of Work: Removed tired, worn wood siding and replaced with stucco and manufactured stone. Installed a new electrical panelboard, energy efficient windows, and entry-way tile. Painted the entire exterior of the house.
I was very satisfied with their work overall. Mark & Enna track the progress of the job & want to know how their workers are performing. They are very responsive to any issues/concerns that may come up. I found that when I described what I wanted in detail, Mark did his best & found the product & found a way to accomplish the requested task. He is especially good with design & detail.
Description of Work: Horizon installed a shower where there was not one, installed a fan/light, & enclosed the shower area with a wall & door. Porcelain tile was laid for the shower.

We are extremely happy with the remodel. Mark Besnos was very helpful with design ideas. Enna, the office manager checked in with us regularly to be sure all was progressing well. The work was performed promptly. When the appliances that we ordered ourselves didn't arrive on time, Horizon was able to reschedule us with no problems. All the the workers were very polite and diligent. For every tiny request we had, the company was very responsive and worked to make sure we were 100% satisfied. Based on their work, we now have them installing molding throughout the house and will hire them again in the future for our remodeling jobs.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel: replaced tile countertops with granite; replaced backsplash with new tile, extended the kitchen island and replaced top with granite. Installed new sink, faucet, cooktop, and hood.
We went through several contractors (6 to be exact) before we found the right one. From the moment we called Horizon Construction, Enna made use feel very comfortable. We explained to Enna what we wanted and what we were looking for. She stated that Mark Besnos would be out to see us and see what he can do. Mark who is the owner and designer gave us a very beautiful vision of what our kitchen would look like. We felt at ease with Mark and fell in love with his ideas. We have finally found our contractor. We only had signed a contract with Horizon to remodel our kitchen but asked mark what he could also do with the exterior of the house and gave us another beautiful vision. He recommended to remove the old concrete stone around the house and by the fireplace and replace it with stack stone. The final out come is amazing. We also wanted to remove the old carpet and install wood flooring and gave him the job as well and they did an excellent job of installing our wood flooring. Our overall experience with the Horizon Construction crew was very good. The crew was very polite, on time, and cleaned up after them selves at the end of the work day. Mark and his foreman Elly were there almost everyday to ensure that the projects were getting done as we have specified and would correct any issues we had with some of the installations. Given the amount of time we gave Horizon Construction they finished the job as specified and did a beautiful job. We have gotten many, many compliments on our house and can only thank Mark, Enna, Elly and the Horizon Construction crew for all there hard work and for making our experience and great one.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of kitchen, demo of old exterior concrete stone and fireplace. Replaced with stack stone. Installation of wood flooring.

Mark and his crew are wonderful. They arrived on time. They worked all day, every day until the work was completed. They cleaned up their work each day. They did an excellent job. We had just installed new hard wood floors in the room and I was concerned that they would be damaged when the old window was removed and the new door was added. It was never a problem. Mark's team was so outstanding, they protected the floors and everything else in the new room. The new door and ramp are outstanding. The next time we have any remodeling work to do, I will call Horizon first. They are an honest, hard working, excellent company.
Description of Work: We needed a new door and safety ramp added to our back bedroom. I called Horizon and spoke to Enna. She was kind and helpful. We needed a new ramp and door added immediately. I made an appointment for the next day. Mark showed up and we explained what we needed. He gave us a very fair price and told me his crew could start on the following Monday. (The appointment was Wednesday, so Monay was an awesome start date.) Mark added suggestions that really made a huge difference to our new room. He suggested a safety sensor light that has really added to safety of the ramp and room.

It was at first a nice effort for Enna to make an apt same day for an estimate for us. She called me 1 hour before to tell me they can fit me in. I arranged babysitting at the last minute. I didn't eat my lunch as I ran out to the house to be on time since they squeezed me in. I got there, and no one showed up. She called me because the contractor (her husband think) said the front entry gate code wasn't working. I asked her to give him my cell # and keeping trying because I know the code works. He never called me. Then I got a call saying he followed a car in but was lost. He still didn't call me. After her 3rd call to me. She finally gives me the contractor's # and I call him. This is now 35 min after apt time. Turns out he left to another apt and was very rude on the phone. His GPS did took him to the wrong community and he had no remorse to the damage he did to my time. We are moving and I had LOTS of packing and work to do. I lost 1 hour of my day (driving out to the location, waiting for him, then driving home. )

Response from Horizon Construction & Remodeling, Inc.
We are sorry for your lost time. Our time is very expensive as well and it was lost because you were VERY RUDE on the phone when Enna told you that the gate code is NOT working. Instead of going to the gate and try to resolve that situation you laugh at her. It was really NOT respectful. To say the true your behavior shocked us, we were very disappointed from your attitude. Sometimes in life things just NOT meant to be – like you being our future customer. GOOD LUCK FINDING A CONTRACTOR!
The kitchen remodel started off as just replacing the countertops, the cooktop and hood, but after taking off the existing countertop, the existing cabinets were in such poor shape, we agreed to replace all of the cabinets. The contractor brought in his kitchen designer to the house and mapped out the new cabinets. They even had a mock-up of the kitchen, on paper, before they left, so we had a good idea of what the kitchen would look like upon completion. This added 10 days to the entire project, but from start to finish the kitchen remodel took 1 month. The workers masked off the work area during the remodel, so that kept the dust down (still had to wipe down surfaces, but it could've been a lot worse). They cleaned up after themselves everyday, removed all of the debris and left the area as clean as possible. I was very happy with the overall work and the timeliness of the project.
Description of Work: Installed new cabinets, new countertops, new backsplash, new flooring, new cooktop and cooktop hood. Upgraded the lighting and electrical.
