I made an initial call to this vendor, and after speaking with Enna, I think I understand where some of these bad reviews are coming from. If this group is credible and reliable, or good at what they do, I really wouldn't have a chance to know, because my experience with the phone conversation with Enna was so bad, I had ABSOLUTELY NO desire to entertain them as a possible vendor/contractor. In my opinion, what this vendor lacks is a sense of customer service, and proper phone communication skills. By the end of the phone conversation, she had me feeling uneasy and defensive. Her tone and how she spoke was so off-putting, that all I wanted to do was to end the conversation. I thought I was a making simple routine call to speak with a contractor, and schedule an appointment for a bid, but she started asking a series of questions that 1). seemed irrelevant and odd, and 2). made it seem like I was jumping through hoops just to have someone come out for a consult. I mentioned that there were plans that had already been designed and submitted to the city, and that we were already close to having those plans approved. I thought knowing that information would be beneficial and help reassure her (or any contractor) that this was a true potential project. But then she proceeded to ask me a whole series of questions?some of which I really didn't know the answer to?like "Who is pulling the permits?", "Who submitted the plans?an architect or a general contractor?". What relevance does that have to scheduling an appointment for an initial consult? And here's the most ridiculous question of them all?I said that the company that created the design/plans that were submitted to the city, was also bidding on the construction portion of the project. She then proceeded to ask me why I wouldn't just use them for the construction. These kinds of questions left me feeling like she thought it was odd or inappropriate for me to be seeking multiple bids on a construction project. Why would a potential vendor ask a question like that? Why wouldn't a vendor/contractor understand that customers want to get comparable quotes to make the best and most informed decision? It just makes the customer feel like the contractor doesn't really want to entertain the project. She then proceeded to tell me that her consultant was out of town, and wouldn't be able to come out until the 2nd week of July. I quickly told her that the time frame was unacceptable, and that were were on a tight schedule to get this completed. She did say if anything opened up sooner, she would let me know?but at that point, I really had no interest in having them come out to bid on the project. Before we ended our call, I really should have told Enna the main reason why I was not going to entertain them as a vendor?that I didn't appreciate the way she handled our phone conversation, and I had no interest in working with her, or a company that made me feel uncomfortable?that made me feel like they were bothered or inconvenienced by my project. I didn't tell her those things, so writing this review is the next best thing. Enna?if you're reading this?please take a few lessons on phone skills, and customer service skills. If you better understood the initial sales process, and the dynamics between a customer and a vendor/contractor?especially during an initial phone conversation, you wouldn't get these kinds of negative reviews. You should always convey a sense of openness, receptiveness and willingness with the customer?you should make them feel special, and that you are willing to do whatever is necessary for their project?but that is something you don't do. IF you think you do that, take it from me?that's not how you come across. Don't ask questions that your customer complicated or irrelevant questions that they probably don't know the answer to, or questions that put them on the defensive or makes them feel bad for calling you. Don't make it difficult for them to meet with you, and don't make them feel like they're wasting your time, or shouldn't be seeking out competitive bids. Enna, I hope you take all these negative reviews, and learn something from them. And one last thing?your responses to the other negative reviews seemed like canned and insincere responses, and were poorly written. UPDATE: We did end up going with another contractor for our remodeling project (which ended up being roughly a $150,000.00 remodeling project). So this is a lesson to you contractors when you're talking with or evaluating "potential" customers out there.
Description of Work: This is only a review of an initial phone conversation, but I had such a bad experience from just the phone conversation, that I felt compelled to write a review. After speaking with Enna one time, I had absolutely no interest in pursuing anything more with this vendor.

The broken sewer line caused the foundation to be displaced. This displacement caused the interior walls to sag and crack. The first task was to drain the standing water from under the house. They then replaced the broken section of sewer pipe. This was done with very little interruption to our abilities to use the toilet (good project planing). The next task was to jack up and level all of the footings. While working on the foundation, the house was anchored to the the existing and new footing post. The great part, the work was performed with very little interruption to the household routine. As with this and other projects performed by Horizon Construction, they pulled all needed permits and oversaw the inspections. My experiences with Mark have always been a worry free experience. This project was especially worry some due to not actually being able to see the problem (I was not going to crawl under the house with a busted sewer line). Mark had no problem letting his camera be my eyes. Even though the work was out side, the workers are really attentive to the home owner, there where a lot of times I even forgot they where there. They not only leave the work site neat and clean at the end of each day, during the day the site is keep clean and organized. The project took about twenty days. During the time when the water needed to be turned off or the sewer could not be used, these task where timed to be done when no one would be home. I have worked on a number of projects with Mark, and a number of projects with other contractors. The difference is Marks ability to always put the home owner first. The ability to recognize concerns and do what it takes to put you at ease. At the end of all projects any concerns you have Mark will fix. He is not satisfied until the customer is completely satisfied. I have found construction work is more the getting the job done. Because the work is over a period of time, the experience is as important if not more then the quality of the work. Mark is A number one in both quality and customer experience.
Description of Work: The main sewer line broke and under minded the foundation. Horizon replace the sewer line and reset the foundation.

This was my first attempt at Angie's list and I was excited to meet Horizon based on the reviews. I got a bad feeling immediately when I spoke to Enna and she said they required my husband to be present at the initial meeting. I wish I would have trusted my instinct and refused to meet with them. However, I scheduled the appointment anyway. It was a complete waste of time. They call it a "consultation" -- ha! It was a mind game from start to finish. I couldn't get a straight answer out of him. I asked him "what kind of a price range would a project like this be?", and his answer was "I don't know, you tell me". Sorry, I am a busy professional. I don't play games in my profession and I certainly won't work with anyone who does. Furthermore, Enna called a few times to follow up on my decision. I told her how I felt and all she did was defend him and STILL tried to get the job. Anyone considering HOrizon should read ALL the reviews on Angie's list before even considering a "consultation".

Dear member, we are sorry you are upset, but it is no reason for it. we are very experienced, and have great reputation in our area! You are welcome to read our customers reviews - They all are A Please look at the Job Performed: YES! we have more than 100 happy customers that review about us, here on Angie's after we performed the job for them. the only unhappy reviews are from potential clients like yourself, that not respect our only request and our policy. IT IS NOTHING TO DO WITH SEX. we want all homeowners to be present during first consultation. the husband AND the wife, in your case. same policy for husband or for wife, nothing to do with sex. We invest a lot of time in every potential client during our 1st Free Consultation. and we provide Free consultation! the only thing we ask in return, is to respect us & our policy and provide us with the opportunity to meet you both: Husband & wife, in your case. This is the only thing we ask for. this is the reason we can accommodate even late appointment or weekend appointment, if it is really necessary. this is our only request from our potential client. for BOTH of them to be present. Is it so much to ask for? we wish you good luck with the contractor you find, that will meet all your needs and you will like all his policies!!!

We chose Horizon Construction because of Mark's vision for our bathrooms in our initial consultation. Our bathrooms are rather small, and we had a few ideas of what we wanted before Mark came over, but he quickly suggested what would and wouldn't work based on his extensive experience and design knowledge. Mark is very good at being straightforward with you on what needs to be done for the space you have to renovate. Some might consider his straightforwardness slightly abrupt, but don't let that put you off - he's very good at what he does and has a passion for his work and the details, and he knows the work his crew does is a reflection of himself and his company (as he should). We mainly interacted with Enna, Horizon's business manager and design consultant, from that point forward, though Mark did visit the project regularly. He also made himself available at any time should you want to go over any details with him. Enna's responsiveness and regular communication is a big reason we are as happy as we are with how the project turned out. Not many contracting companies have someone like Enna to be your customer service rep., design consultant, project coordinator, complaint department, etc. Enna is very responsive, competent, nice, and professional, and made the 2+ months of having workers in our home a tolerable (and almost pleasant :-) ) experience. Day one, Enna and Mark met us at the tile store to sign the contracts and help us pick out flooring, countertops, and glass borders, which was incredibly helpful. Work began quickly afterwards, and the crew was at our house just about every week day for around 2 months. Each crew member was very nice, respectful, hard working, and we trusted them implicitly to work and lock up after themselves while we were at work. Coming home from work each day was an exciting event; seeing progress was a treat and they always cleaned up after themselves each day. Mark visited the site regularly and corrected any issues and small details he found, and listened to any concerns we had. We never felt we were being given the runaround or that our ideas and concerns were insignificant. For example they installed a 4" vanity backsplash which didn't connect well to a 6" wood trim piece. We pointed it out and they tore out the marble backsplash and redid it to 6". Now, I'm not saying there weren't frustrations. Some language barriers and miscommunication between ourselves, management, and the crew reared its head from time to time, but whenever issues arose they were always fixed to our satisfaction and never impacted the end product. I don't believe you can have a multi-month long project without these issues arising, and I chalk them up as normal, and don't mark them down for this. One miscommunication example was that we asked them to put insulation in the shower plumbing wall which bordered the bedroom for noise reduction. They forgot to do this during the rough plumbing and said if we still wanted it done, they would open up the drywall in the bedroom side, then patch and paint the bedroom wall, which they did end up doing. This was a minor issue, and we would have been fine if they didn't want to do the work, but they went out of their way to make us happy. Other minor issues stemmed from the crew not looking at the fixtures we purchased before finishing the rough plumbing in the first bathroom. Their expectation was that we would point out anything other than standard fixtures (we had a bar with handheld shower head; they assumed fixed shower head). Our expectation was that they would check with us before commencing rough plumbing (or at least take a look at the fixtures). The result ended up not being a big issue - a slightly less than ideal placement for the water outlet valve. However, we learned a valuable lesson and made sure to go over rough plumbing for the master bath with them beforehand. In the end, both baths turned out beautiful, more so than I imagined. Overall, we had a very positive experience and highly recommend Horizon. A few tips: Get your fixtures early; unless you're ordering from a big box store, some items take a few weeks to get in. Make sure your expectations and visions are communicated. Enna writes up a detailed scope of work, make sure this is correct, though some items are difficult to envision when you initially go over the contract. Make sure to meet with Mark and show him your fixtures and expected placements before the crew starts rough plumbing. It will be much more difficult to change things once this has started.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of two bathrooms in our home; the hall/guest bath and the master bath. The guest bath is approximately 4'x9', and the master is approximately 5.5'x9'. Complete demo of both baths down to the studs, including removal of 2 walls taking up 1/4 of the master bath which used to house the central air unit. Added insulation, mudding, hot mopping as necessary. Travertine tile on floors and shower surfaces in both bathrooms with custom glass tile borders. Semi-custom vanities built to spec for each bath with our choice of countertop. Custom above-toilet cabinet built to spec. Added electrical, new fan lights, and can lighting to each bath. Overhauled old plumbing system and installed new piping and drains. Relocated shower plumbing in master bath. Installed all fixtures, including medicine cabinets, rain shower from ceiling, etc.

I decided to go ahead and give this review, because like the other person who was also given the run around. It is just unacceptable in today's day and age. My husband and I also own a business. We are burning the candle at both ends. I also home school two high achieving children. We have 3 homes, and have built two of them in 95 (UT) and 2003 from the ground up. We have dealt with a lot of contractors and NOT ONCE has this ever happened, except for that Builders direct place that is now OUT OF BUSINESS. My husband and I delegate jobs to one another. I ( the woman) am in charge of this remodel. I also called Horizon, because of the reviews here on Angie's list. Enna also told me they would not come here without us being here together. I told her that I could not guarantee my husband would be here. She went through all the days of the week and different times...etc. BUT again I told her that my husband is a VERY busy physician. He could be here, or he may not. She just couldn't believe that he doesn't come home. Well he does, I just can't tell you when that will be. He delivers babies and ...well. They come when they want. My husband works when we are in town (the reason for the other homes). He feels he should be there for his patients if he's in town. Well obviously Enna didn't experience that type of dedication in her physician. After arguing with her for 30 minutes, she told me she would discuss it with her husband and let me know. I never heard back from her. Now mind you...I told her I would have my husband sign off on ALL work orders (thinking it was about contracts and money). NOPE. This company has a serious issue with women. I know it's their "policy", but it;s wrong. In today's busy world couples have enough stress then having to deal with sexist companies. As I stated above, I told her I would have my husband SIGN all work orders and contracts so this isn't about getting paid. It's just WRONG ! It's your choice as a business owner to have this policy, but it's WRONG putting additional stress on couples who have large projects like this one.

Horizon did a fantastic job on the remodel of our recently purchased Huntington Beach town home. Before we signed an agreement, Mark took time in understanding our needs and style. He put together a detailed and accurate scope of work. Mark then helped us choose cabinets, flooring, granite, carpet, etc. It was actually fun. When it was time for work, Mark was on site often, making sure things went smoothly. As with any large project, we encountered several problems, but Mark was always there with solutions. For example, the city inspector was going to make us replace the railing throughout the house because it wasn't up to current code (spacing of rails). Mark went to bat for us and somehow convinced them to approve sandblasting and repainting our current railing. This saved us $6,000 and yet still looked beautiful. I am a professional Graphic Designer and so I am very picky. During different stages, Mark would have me go through the home and identify any issues I saw. With the things I pointed out, I know many other contractors would not have been supportive. But it seemed Mark truly wanted me to be completely happy and he made sure that these issues were taken care of. Mark's wife, Enna was also invaluable. She administrated the project and made sure that we were doing our part. She was always available for our questions and never seemed frustrated when we could not do something right away. As said in other reviews, Horizon will not be the cheapest, but that would be impossible given the quality of work and overall support. We felt that Horizon was not just about making money but about value and giving us a home that we loved. They succeeded. If you look over the reviews, you will see an occasional poor review, not because of the quality of the work, but because someone got his/her feelings hurt. They didn't even have work done. But we, like many others, had an excellent experience with Horizon. Thanks Mark and Enna for a great remodel and a fantastic experience. We will be calling again when we can afford the bathroom remodel.

I had a wonderful experience working with Horizon Construction and Remodeling. Mark Besnos and Enna Eskin were very pleasant to talk to and they responded to every call I made to them. Mark was on the job frequently to be sure things were being done to my satisfaction. His crew was very hard working and did an excellent job - they were on the job daily and always cleaned up prior to leaving. I was amazed at the progress that was made each day. The entire job took approximately 4 weeks and stayed within my budget. I am very pleased with the final product. My floors are beautiful and I love my new patio/sunroom. I would very highly recommend them to anyone that had a job to be done. I definitely plan to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We recently had new wood floors installed in the entire downstairs of our house. The job included demolition of existing tile and carpet. They hauled away the old tile and carpet and did a wonderful job installing my new floors. Horizon also converted my old patio into a new patio/sunroof. They added walls around the existing patio and installed windows and a sliding glass door and doggy door.

The contractor showed up an hour late and did not even apologize. In fact, he appeared extremely aggravated when he showed up at our door, as if we were a major inconvenience. We proceeded to tell him the work we needed done, which included wood floors and carpeting throughout the house. We also wanted to redo our fireplace to make it more modern. We were also getting a quote for doing our bathrooms as well. The entire time he seemed irritated, to the point where we wanted to ask him to just leave. He acted like our job was too small, and it was apparent he had no desire to help us. We are very easy-going people, so we were wondering why he was in such a foul mood. We are also both professionals and have worked with contractors in the past, and we were shocked because this was truly the worst customer service we have ever experienced. We were surprised that this company has such high ratings. He finally left saying that we would receive a quote in a few days. Weeks passed and we never heard from the company. A woman called 3-4 weeks later to see if we would like to proceed. I informed her of our experience and she kept defending him saying that she had never heard this before. Regardless, it was a horrible experience for us, and we are glad that we found a better company that did a great job, and actually wanted to work with us.
Description of Work: I never write bad reviews, but my husband and I had the worst experience with this company. We ended up doing our remodel with a different company.

Dear Member, we are glad you find a contractor to perform your project. and you are happy with them. we apologized you felt that way during our meeting. our appointment was over a year ago on September 06, 2012 as you are saying, if you never write bad reviews, why to write it now? after a year? When we schedule appointments, we NEVER give an exact time. we ALWAYS schedule an hour of window for us to arrive. meaning 5:00 - 6:00 pm for example. not 5 pm or 6 pm. we always make sure to mention that when scheduling and to write it in our email confirmation. so, in your case, we arrived at 6 pm, still in our window of time. this is the reason we did not apologize, since we were not late. if for any reason we are late, not only the representative that coming to meet with you will apologize to you, you will always receive a phone call from the office prior to representative arrival apologizing for the delay. this is how we work for many years. we apologize if you did not understood our 1 hour window of time policy. During our meeting, You left for a dinner!!! leaving us only with the husband. we felt very uncomfortable in this situation, like we and our time are not important enough. especially that the husband was keeping answering all questions by: "i don't know, my wife is the one to answer that..." our representative was NOT asked to leave never in the company history. he was not asked to leave by you or your husband as well!!! if he was, than the appointment was a complete disaster and it is NOT logical for him to tell you, as you are saying, that he will work on an estimate for you. because a person that was asked to leave the house will be never hired, right? something not right in your report on Angie's, i suggest you rephrasing it.

Our rental property in Southern California needed to be remodeled. Horizon Construction and Remodeling came so highly rated on Angie's List that we thought this was a no brainer. My husband contacted Horizon (Enna Eskin) and explained to her that while the property on which we needed work was in Southern California, we lived in Northern California, so could Horizon do the work in our absence. He was assured that they absolutely could - no problem at all, they did it all the time - and, to their credit, they did say at this time that they preferred both owners of the house at the house when we meet. My husband explained to them that it was not possible to do so because of our business, but I was the designated proxy since I would be making the decisions anyway. And of course, perhaps this was his mistake, he assumed that Horizon would realize that we were living in the 21st century, and that since correspondence shifted to me and I had made it clear that I was the one with whom they'd be working, and that we would be working on finding a time that would be convenient for them to meet with me - and only me. Enna even pushed to ask when we could make that appointment, and I informed her that the date was conditional upon MY ability to change my schedule. So, it was VERY clear on my end AND in my husband's phone conversations that it would only be me attending. When it came to setting a date for the appointment to meet so that Horizon could see the property, I was informed that they would not do so unless both homeowners were present. This was NOT a meeting to sign a contract. This was NOT a meeting to evaluate completed work. This was ONLY for Horizon to look at the property, go over the list previously provided of what work was to be completed, and then to come up with an estimate. In other words, there was no legally binding transaction required by either party. So why the necessity for both homeowners to be present? And then to say that actual construction could take place with NO ONE present? This would suggest they are bonded and insured, so that wouldn't be the issue. When pressed on this, Enna simply said it was their policy, that it "wasn't personal." When asked why this was their policy, she repeated that it was their policy, and then said she understood if we chose not to do business with them. But then she very reluctantly said, that it might be possible to meet with only me but highly unlikely and only if they happened to have a meeting in the area and only if they agreed to make an exception.... At that point, since I was inconveniencing them to be on my own and having only one homeowner present for an estimate was apparently highly unorthodox, I declined to conduct further business with them. Horizon Construction and Remodeling might do excellent work, but I can't see spending money on a company that discriminates against private business owners or requires the presence of both spouses for only an estimate. I found the practice offensive, demeaning, and patronizing to say the least. As a business owner myself, I'm a strong supporter in businesses being allowed to serve a specific clientele. However, as a consumer, I do want to be informed of a businesses practices and will not support business who have what I consider to be outrageous and offensive practices. I can only hope that once informed, other consumers will do the same.

This was a major remodel project. I wanted a contractor to oversee all aspects, work with me on the design, stay on top of the job, do professional grade work, and show up every day, all at a fair price. I got that with Horizon. You can go with a cheaper contractor but I doubt you will get all of these qualities. Mark spent a lot of time with my wife and I selecting cabinets, granite countertops, and flooring making design suggestions. He also made recommendations as the job progressed. Enna was in contact with me daily and was a pleasure to deal with. The job started the day they said it would and ended on time. I checked the work done daily. If there was every an issue or I was not happy for some reason it was corrected without discussion. Horizon even did some upgrades to improve the look of the job and did not charge for it. They did not charge any large up front fees instead I paid as each aspect of the job was started and completed. Mark did a final inspection at the end sending some workers back to do minor touch ups. I would highly recommend Horizon.

Not good. Please see above.
Description of Work: Wonderful things happen to me on April 9th. I married the love of my life 32 years ago and we have celebrated our anniversary every year since then. Today, in addition to my happy marriage I am celebrating the end of a potential business relationship with this company, in particular with Enna .Thank you GOD... I didn't do the MISTAKE to sign a contract with someone that cannot honor a simple appointment. When I called Enna today to confirm our consultation scheduled for tomorrow (made 2 weeks in advance), she couldn't remember anything. Then she asked me to hold on so she could check her notes. She comes back saying that after checking her notes she remembers me - I was the one that "would have the consultation without the husband!!!" Then I said, YES that is me!!! I explained, once again, that my husband is very busy man and that I am the one that is discussing our home remodeling plans with all the companies and general contractors. She asks me to hold on again... Wait...wait...wait... Finally, when she comes back WITHOUT APPOLOGES, she said she is not going to our appointment, instead she would send someone else. My house is a 4300 sqft home and the job consists of full Kitchen and 5 bathrooms remodel, installation of travertine flooring thru out the house, and some other minor jobs. I am very happy to eliminate her from the list of candidates. It is stressful to live thru a major renovation, but it becomes impossible if you have to deal with rude people like her. I would never recommend her services to any of my friends or family. I called her because of the reviews I read here. I don't know about the quality of the work provided by this company, but my personal impressions of Enna are not good. I like people with positive energy. She will not be the one to beautify my home. I am making sure not to divorce my loving husband over a rude and unreliable general contractor!!!

It did not go well, luckily they saved me some time by not using them. DO get quotes from other contractor companies because if this is your only quote expect to pay way over normal prices.
Description of Work: Called them to get a quote for a room addition. Normally with other companies, they would ask for the plans and then do a site visit for a quote. however, these guys, over the phone gave a quick quote and was double the price over any other company. I find it unprofessional to give a quote over the phone for a large job. This job is expected to cost anywhere from 60k-100k. They quoted us 150k, when i've received 3 other quotes in the 60-80k range. I would stay away from businesses like these that dont take the extra effort. I guess they didn't need my business.

Dear member, you called us and asked for approx prices over the phone. You mentioned you are interviewing many contractors and have several prices already. this is why you want to save time & hear rough prices over the phone, prior to scheduling with us to come to meet with you at your property. We provided you a big range in our price and told you that it is very rough, since it is over the phone and we will need to see the property for more current price. you mentioned that you have lower bids and you don't wish to meet. It is very possible, that if we will meet our price will change but we never received the opportunity to do so. Good luck with your project!

We chose Horizon over six different bids for a variety of reasons. The main reason was due to Enna, who was in constant communication with me before, during, and after the estimate. She was wonderful and extremely helpful throughout the entire process. She was able to show us pictures of previous jobs and give us an idea of how our dream bathroom could become a reality. She came out to give us an estimate after hours to accommodate my husband and I?s hectic schedule. She was so flexible and understanding. My husband and I have very different tastes and Enna helped us create a bathroom that we both love. If you would have seen the bathroom prior to the work, you would never believe it was the same room. All the workers from Horizon were extremely professional and polite. They worked around various other contractors and always picked up all their tools and materials before leaving. At the end of each day when I would return back to the house it was like magical elves came into do the work. They made great progress and each stage was always completed without any trace of someone being there. The payment structure is extremely reasonable as well. We paid at the completion of each of the stages, so it allowed us to be completely satisfied with the work prior to writing out the check. Although Horizon was not the least expensive of all the bids, they were by far the most professional and reassuring company I interviewed. Enna worked with our very tight budget and kept extremely close to the initial estimate. There were some unforeseen additions that needed to be made due to the structure of the room, but Enna and Horizon let us know the various options prior to the work being done and explained everything thoroughly. I cannot express how happy I am with the work and the job Horizon did! We love our bathroom and cannot wait to do more to the house, just to have Horizon back out.
Description of Work: We just bought a short sale house and the master bath needed to be gutted, no questions asked. It was completely gross and not very functional. There was an existing double vanity, toilet, and bath/shower with framed enclosure that was extremely thin and narrow. The tub was actually sunk below the floor and there was a soffit above the shower. We had Horizon gut the entire room down to the plumbing and electrical. Just to start-Horizon removed the soffit, enclosed all the electrical that was being stored inside, and raised the floor up to the same level as the rest of the bathroom. We chose to remove the bathtub all together and install a wider shower. Horizon expanded the whole shower area and therefore needed to move the toilet plumbing and the sink plumbing to fit our new vanity. We chose to buy our own vanity, oppose to having a custom vanity made to save money. We did need to provide all the fixtures ourselves, but Enna would have helped select the items, and gave us suggestions for each. Personally I think this was great because I changed my mind three times prior to installing. Finally Horizon installed everything we bought, and finished by installing a frameless glass enclosure.

Having had my kitchen remodeled with a different contractor, I was very impressed by the punctuality of Horizon Construction, Enna always kept me updated and in the loop of what to expect and when! Also updated us promptly on any issues or problems. Mark had a very keen eye for design and gave us suggestions on the materials for both the floors and the shower and also few other design elements. Also, they replaced the glass door when Mark noticed a crack that both me and my husband missed! We really liked the professionalism and the meticulousness that Mark and Enna showed. It has been two months since the job was completed, but I encountered a recent problem with the shower door and contacted Enna about it. She assured us when the job was finished that the bathroom was under warranty as well. A repairman came out within days to get the problem fixed. I love the follow up and the fact that they stand behind their work. I would definitely recommend this company.

Mark provided the second estimate I got on my kitchen remodel. After making some recommendations and suggestions, we settled on a design, and Mark and Enna did their best to work within my budget while still providing quality materials and equipment. Enna held my hand through picking out my countertops and cabinets, and even guided me through the purchase of my appliances. Mark came up with a great design based on my needs and what I had to work with. Along the way there was some stress and misunderstandings, but both Mark and Enna worked tirelessly to make me happy and come up with great resolutions. We were in contact every day either by phone or email, and Mark even rushed over on a Saturday when I needed my gas turned back on. I can't say enough about the finished product. It is one of the most beautiful kitchens I've ever seen and it's mine. Thanks Mark and Enna

Very happy with our horizon remodel. We started by getting estimates to remodel our 1970s master bath to put in a tub, move a wall, put in new vanities and fixtures, and paint. We got several estimates. Mark came in and convinced us that a tub would just make the space too crowded, and instead put in a very large, custom tile shower with frameless glass. We agreed to that. The price for the remodel was approximately the same as other bids, but the finishes he described were obviously more high end. After a couple more meetings where we finalized the design we agreed to a 5 week plan. The project started with demolition, basically turning the existing bathroom into an empty space. The demo guys were surprisingly neat, given the amount of demo. Then we met Mark at the tile store to pick out the tiles for the shower, walls and floor. Mark, and the tile people were very helpful at making sure everything was coordinated and to our liking. The tile wasn't cheap, but we wanted a really nice bathroom. We also picked out the "custom" cabinet colors at that time. Construction moved along nicely, even though it was the end of the year holiday period. Everything was permitted and done according to code. The new wall was constructed, a window was removed.and the new electrical and lights were put in. Tile was next. Their tile guys are really good. We have three kinds of tile, marble and glass tile and they look great. During the process, we had several meetings with Mark, Enna or Ely the head construction guy, making sure we were on board with the process. Finally the cabinets went in, mirrors were built and the paint was done. It was a little stressful buying all the fixtures ourselves since we didn't know what we were doing, but that process insured that we got exactly what we wanted. Issues: As with any big job there were a couple of issues. The existing walls in the space are not square and when the tile was installed there were pretty large gaps between the wall and the tile. Mark was on vacation for Christmas so we had to hammer the solution without him. Their solution was to fill the gap with cement and "no one would notice". We insisted on changing the drywall to make it right. We had to pay extra for that and really felt we shouldn't have. Also, we wanted vessel sinks and were told they would be great. However, when the time came we were told that the custom cabinets weren't really custom and that the sinks would be too high. They did propose some solutions but we basically had to go with undermount sinks. On the other hand a couple of issues were quite positive. At the last minute we decided we wanted another medicine cabinet, even though drywall and paint were done. Mark made that happen and didn't charge us. Also, on the custom mirrors that they built, the wood started to warp right away. They came out three times to make sure it was done exactly right. Also, before completion Mark came out to inspect. He had some tile removed, some painting touched up and a couple of other things we hadn't noticed, just to make things perfect. Overall, the change orders were only 5% of the total budget and almost all of that was because we added the mirrors. On final thing. After the project was done, a handle on the shower door was loose and they had no problem coming out to fix it (free). We are very happy with the results. Horizon does very high quality work and seems to stand behind their work. We would not hesitate to hire them again.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of master bath. remove a wall, build a new wall, gut the bathroom, build custom tile shower, new cabinets, flooring, fixtures, etc. Note: review updated 2/12/13 - I accidentally hit would not hire again before. I would definitely hire them again.

I would recommend that you use caution with this company because they changed the blueprints without notification. They changed the location of the crawl space. It was first shown to be on the back of the addition, and they changed it to be on the side which is next to a walkway. They did complete the project on time, but they did not pick up after themselves as much as I would have liked them to. The quality and the price of the work were fair, and I am happy with the addition, besides the location of the crawl space.

Dear Member, we are sorry about this misunderstanding, but as we explained many times: we " THE CONTRACTOR" can't change the blue prints. We follow them! we build the crawl space as shown on your blue prints, if we were building it elsewhere, we were NEVER be approved with the city inspection. Maybe, when designing the addition with the architect, you pointed out to have the crawl space in a certain location, perhaps your city plan checker did NOT approve it. we are NOT allowed to change the blueprints at all!!! the crawl space was build as shown on the your blue plans! you never brought up this issue when we started the project or during the project, so we are disappointed, to see it just now after all is completed. We worked really hard on your addition, and build a beautiful bedroom for you & your wife AND we finished long before our completion date. we apologized that this crawl space became an issue, but it is nothing we can do about it to change it. Maybe you should call your plan checker and discuss this issue with him, he might help. saying all that, we really don't think we deserve your D REPORT!!!

In late September 2012, after getting an estimate from another company for our planned remodel of 2 bathrooms, a large master bath and a smaller downstairs bath, we made an appointment with Horizon Construction and Remodeling for an estimate. We had previously read reviews here on Angie?s List. Mark arrived at the designated time, discussed with us our plans, then took measurements of the bathrooms. He also made suggestions regarding the project. He suggested that we meet with him at MSI to look at a variety of materials so he could more accurately provide an estimate. After deciding to have Horizon do the project, we made an appointment with Mark to go over the contract, scope of work, and the payment schedule. It was determined that work could begin on October 3 but since demolition could only begin midday, We decided that early morning the following day would be best. The demolition crew arrived as scheduled and the project was started. Demolition of the 2 bathrooms was completed in 2 days and work began on the remodel construction. Each segment of the project went smoothly. In the meantime, we went with Mark to select a marble slab for the countertops. We also met with the cabinet maker regarding the custom vanities and color of the stain. Work progressed smoothly and ahead of schedule. Along the way, we made several changes. Enna was very helpful in accomplishing those changes and doing the paperwork involved. She is an invaluable asset to the company. When the original project was well on its way to completion, we decided to go ahead and do the third bathroom since we had enough marble left from the slab to do the countertop. Also, the vanity in the upstairs guest bath was the same size as the downstairs bath which made the custom construction easier and more efficient. Mark was here on a regular basis to check on progress, answer questions, and listen to our concerns. In some cases, he had noticed things that needed correction before we even brought them up. Any remodel project, and especially one of this magnitude, is stressful. I know of several cases where projects lasted much longer than anticipated but that was not the case here. The projected completion date was January 10, 2013, however, work was completed December 15, 2012, which made our Holiday Season more enjoyable than it might have otherwise been! The master bath, which was converted from a Roman tub to a walk-in shower is amazing and the other two bathrooms are elegant as well. Horizon Construction and Remodeling is dependable and you can expect them to do what they agreed to do. The quality of their work is good and everyone we encountered was responsible for their part of the job. My only admonition to you is that you make sure the scope of work that you sign off on includes all the things you discussed and thought would be there. If you have a project in mind, call Horizon Remodeling and Construction and give them an opportunity to discuss it with you before you make a final decision. We are pleased with how our bathrooms came out and would not hesitate to call Horizon for another project.
Description of Work: This project included total demo and reconstruction of 3 bathrooms. It included converting the master bath from a Roman tub to a walk-in shower with travertine to the top of all walls which had cathedral ceilings and a triangular window. and replacing toilets, vanities, sinks, and all fixtures. In the guest bath, the tub was replaced with a new tub and travertine on the walls. The sink, vanity and toilet were also replaced, adding an enclosure using 3/8 inch sliding doors. In the downstairs shower, old ceramic tile was removed and replaced with travertine. The toilet, vanity, and sink were also replaced. The floors in all bathrooms were removed and replaced with travertine.

Dear member, we apologize for the misunderstanding, after our phone conversation about your project: preparing house for rent, you emailed us a detailed list with all items you need to repair / remodel before renting the house. we agree to look at the list & be in touch, in case this project is more than our minimum or it is the right project for us. we are a general construction company, usually doing larger projects, your list is a repair list, not a full remodeling. maybe all your small items on this repair list are above our minimum, but this is not our specialty. we specialize in remodeling, not handyman work. we truly wish you good luck finding the right company for this type of work. and please keep us in mind for any larger remodeling you may have in the future! Mark came over to give us a quote, saw the layout of our bathroom and said he was doing the exact same bathroom in another home in our neighborhood with the same layout and floor plan. He then called the home owner and asked if we could take a look at their bathroom. We went over and it was the same bathroom, only almost completely renovated. The attention to detail was apparent and my husband and I were already convinced Horizon would do a great job with our bathroom. The homeowners really liked Mark as well so that was a plus and mentioned to us that his staff was really nice as well.
Description of Work: Horizon did an excellent job with our bathroom. Mark redid items he felt were not perfect over and over. He pointed out things I did not see and made helpful suggestions. His staff made helpful comments as well throughout our renovation. They pay attention to detail and picking out materials was a lot easier then our previous experience with contractors. We definitely would recommend them to our family and friends as our bathroom is absolutely beautiful now! We still have more projects to do in our home but are taking our time as we build up funds. We will be using Horizon for these projects when we get to it. They have already given us fair quotes and have not asked us when we want to do the projects as we told them we would call when we are ready. Very professional and take pride in their work!

About one year ago, we used Horizon for a complete kitchen remodel. They did an amazing job, first tearing things down to the studs, then building a brand new kitchen to our specifications! Their guys were friendly, on time, cleaned up after themselves each day. And any time we found something we wanted changed, adjusted, or altered, they came back without question and did what we asked. Seems to be a rare quality of contractors these days!! This year, we had them come back and remodel both bathrooms ? again, down the studs and back into something amazing! They helped pick out the tiles and colors, made recommendations that were often taken. On time, clean, friendly. And again, if we had questions or concerns, they addressed them right away. Enna answers the calls and emails right away and Mark was always there in person to check on the work. After the bathrooms, we had them scrape down two popcorn ceilings and re-paint. One room had a ballast that could not be completely removed due to the roof line. Instead of just leaving it in place, Mark came up with an idea to remove and curve the ceiling down to meet the wall?and it looks amazing!! We had them also replace our electrical box and build two new fence gates for us. Now no contractor is perfect and any review that says that is lying. Horizon was not perfect all the time. However, unlike most contractors, they always, I said always, came back and fixed a scratch or replaced a defective door, or re-touch the ceiling, or whatever was needed. Even months after they finished, if we discovered something not quite right, they came back without question and fixed it. Being in the service industry myself, I appreciate more when things are fixed or corrected when the customer is not satisfied, then someone pretending to do it right the first time, then walking away, whether you are happy or not. I would highly recommend Horizon for any construction work you need. They will do good work, for a fair price, make good recommendations and respond when you need them. Give them a call!!!
