Paul’s Certified Appliance has been in the valley for over 35 years. Paul’s was first started by Paul and Janet Gilchrist and became one of the valley’s most professional appliance repair companies. The company was founded on the idea that experience and expertise in appliance repair would provide an excellent base for the competent repair of many appliances. All of our technicians go through rigorous training with many of the top manufacturers and we are warranty certified for most brands.
The service tech was prompt and got right to fixing the dishwasher. He was able to quickly determine what the cause of the non-operation of the machine was and fixed it. He explained what the problem had been after I asked and explained to me that it was a common issue, again after I asked. Next was the washing machine. He looked at it and commented as to what might be the problem. He then proceeded to pull it away from the wall and open up the back. It was not quite what he had thought was the problem but he stated that it would cost too much to repair and I should get a new machine. I asked about what the problem was and he was vague as to what all needed to be repaired/replaced. He just said that it would run over $350.00 to fix. So, after he left, and I was not fully satisfied with his vague answer as to what parts were needed, I called the manufacturer. I got quite a bit of info from them regarding parts and what was still in-warranty as well as them emailing me a parts catalog for reference. We discussed the issue the machine was having and they were very good at determining what might be the problem - a greater problem with more parts and more expense than the tech had mentioned. So, I now felt I had a better idea of what the true cost of repair would be and if I had any options left or not. I am the type of person who will repair something if it is minor but was not sure if this was or not as the tech really did not go into detail on what needed replacing. As it turns out, he was off qute a bit on the parts necessary to completely fix the machine. So, had we started the work at the quoted cost of around $350 or so, I would have found out the total would have been over $1,200 instead. I did not like the tech's quick reponse of it would be cheaper to get a new machine (instead of checking out what parts were really needed, and costing them out for me to help determine that a new machine was my only practical option) as he did not go into detail on what parts, and possible additional parts might be needed to fix the machine. Due the high initial cost of the machine, I really needed to be satisfied with the best option being replacement only. So, I feel the techs should take a bit more time to fully inform the customer of what is needed, and what possibly might be additionally needed, to repair the appliance they are evaluating. Again, I am the type who likes to be fully informed to make a decision, not just that I have one option without explaining why. Based on the overall service call, I would very likely use Paul's again but would definitely expect a better breakdown of the cost of repair - parts and labor - to make my own call on what to do instead of a tech deciding.

The technician was professional and realistic. She spent about 45 minutes diagnosing the problem I called on but while doing that she found another soon to be problem. She recommended that I buy a new appliance because she could fix this one but there was another costly repair looming. Bottom line was cost more to repair than replace.

Called for service and technician was at house in an hour! Very pleasant lady, very very knowledgeable, diagnosed problem correctly as a clog not a bad pump and was able to restore the dishwasher without any new parts. Extremely meticulous in her work.

They fixed a known issue with overheating do to running the cleaning cycle, unlike in the past Paul's replaced some parts, so maybe it is a lasting repair rather than just a reset of something on the back of the oven.

He fixed the dishwasher right away. The stove had faulty old wiring and he needed to order special parts for it, which took a while, but he eventually fixed the problem and charged very little considering the hassle involved. He was professional, polite and clearly knew what he was doing.

They charged $69 for the first visit ($79 minus the $10 coupon from Angies list), to make dx that my sealed system was leaking. Then, they charged another $1000 to replace part of the system (took them 2 1/2 hours to do this). Refrig works well now, but their prices seemed kind of high. Not sure if I would use them again, without shopping around for estimates.

It only went OK. They were not able to source the part locally so it was ordered. They would only give me a 3-5 day window as to when the part might arrive and the repair completed because they would not schedule the return repair until after the part arrived and that only then would we be scheduled and that I would be as last in, otherwise back of the line. I offered to overnight the part and was told it would not make a difference. I told them I did not think I should have to be back at the end of the service line 4 or so days after they started our service. They apparently disagreed because when I called them again for another repair I was told that I was on their "do not service" list even though they could not tell me why. I called back and in light of them not being able to tell me why I was on their list to reconsider servicing us. They would not. In the end they are right, Paul's Certified App Repair should not come back to our house!

Response from PAUL'S CERTIFIED APPL REPAIR
We at Paul's Certified Appliance decided to no longer service Mr. (member name removed)'s appliances any longer after our previous interactions with this customer. Our goal at Paul's Certified Appliance is to make sure our customers are taken care of and happy when we come out to their home. We felt with this customer would be happier finding a different service company for any future repairs.

Called them on Monday 8/26 to report that the dishwasher was inop. They set up an apt for Tuesday 8/27 from 2-5pm. They called on Tuesday and said they would arrive at 2pm which they did. The problem was diagnosed within ten minutes. The circuit breaker had to be ordered. It was thought that they part would arrive soon enough to complete the job on Friday 8/30. They called Thursday 8/29 and said they would arrive between 3-6 pm. They called ahead and arrived at 3pm on Friday. The repair was completed within 30 minutes. Ko, the tech, was courteous, professional, focused and on time throughout the entire process. I recommend them. They are now on my list of businesses I trust.

The technician was great. Explained how the refrigerator worked and why it died. Explained my options and then did a verbal cost benefits analysis. She, yes that's right the technician was a female, and she was incredibly knowledgeable. It was worth the service call to find out I needed to buy a new one.

Description of Work: For many years I used Paul's Certified Appliance for servicing refrigerators, washers, etc. I called to inquire about a part replacement for a microwave. They could not help with a replacement but were very helpful in that they provided me with the source for a non-standard magnetron. I purchased the part and installed it myself.

8/1/2013 - The fallowing review was left a few weeks ago after my initial experience with Paul's Certified Appliance. After the owner became aware of the problem he was very interested in fixing it. He left me several messages stating he wanted to resolve the issue and was very nice and professional. After speaking with him and based on all of the other positive reviews, I do feel that my issue was a rare occurrence and not normal for Paul?s Certified Appliance. I am happy with the resolution. July 2013 When our dishwasher broke we called Puals Appliance because they had great reviews on Angies list. At first they were nice on the phone and showed up to their appointment on time. The technician told me that we needed a new key pad for our dishwasher. He told us that it would cost about $323 to fix it (this was in addition to the $80 we already paid for him to come out). He broke it down and told me that the part was $150 and the rest was labor. I asked if the part was hard to change since they were going to charge about $173 in labor. He said it was very simple and I could do it myself. He said it is just six screws and one plug and it would be easy to do ourselves. He gave me the number to their ?Pauls Certified Appliance Parts Department? and told me to call the number and order the part through them. I replaced the part exactly the way he told me and our dishwasher was still broken. When I called to tell them that the new key pad did not fix our dishwasher they were very rude. They said they would call me back. When they called me back they said they weren?t going to help me because I didn?t pay the extra $173 for them to do the ?simple job of unscrewing 6 screws and one plug?. They refused to take back the part since I opened the box. They wouldn?t even refund me the $80 for them to diagnose the problem since they never did tell me what was wrong with my dishwasher and never fixed it. So I basically paid $230 and my dishwasher is still broken.
Description of Work: After we hired Paul’s Certified Appliance our dishwasher was still not fixed. I called the technician and he was uninterested in helping me. After the owner read my review he called me several times and was very interested in resolving the issue. I was impressed with the owner’s professionalism and I am happy with our resolution.

My refrigerator & freezer stopped cooling. I phoned Paul's and was thrilled that they were able to come out the same day. Jill determined the compressor was not working. She said a new compressor would be about $800, but that we could try an attachment called Hard Start that would help the compressor work properly, and be considerably less expensive. We did, and it did, and all is well. Thank you, Paul's. Thank you, Jill!

Jill came to assess the fridge first and very patiently listened to my story and my theories on what was potentially wrong with it. She then inspected it and pointed out a couple of things that I had not noticed like a lake of frozen water in the bed of my freezer (which is on the bottom of my fridge). Then she explained that there was a defective part that caused ice to build up in my freezer and then melt slightly during the defrost cycle. Overtime, the water spilled out onto the bed of my fridge and then eventually out onto my floor. She told me it was a fairly easy fix. She estimated how long it would take and then gave me a quote for the parts and labor on the spot (which was reasonable). The part had to be ordered and I had to wait a week for her to come back to fix it. However, Jill did some preliminary work on melting the visible ice and gave me some pointers on how to protect my floor in the meantime. Overall, Jill was pleasant, efficient and very professional. I would definitely buy her services again.
Description of Work: Replaced a defective part that made my refrigerator leak water when it went through its defrost cycle. I kept finding a small puddle of water on my floor. Since my Whirlpool fridge was just over a year old, I was naturally quite baffled that it would need to be repaired so soon in its lifecycle. Otherwise the fridge has been great so I hope it's fixed for good now.

Our over-the range microwave was making a funny noise, and the technician found that the heating element had gone out. He gave us a quote to have it fixed, but we decided to just purchase a new one.
