The front wall of our house, and the front porch, were sinking, which resulted in a large horizontal crack in the outside wall, just above the foundation, as well as cracks on interior walls and ceiling. We got quotes from three different foundation repair companies. We chose Saber partly because they offered the best price, but mostly because they seemed to have the best technology and appeared to understand the nature of the problem better than the others. They were the only company to quote us on fixing the exact problem we had, and not propose tens of thousands of dollars of ancillary work that didn't actually address the problem. Saber's proposal was to drive piers into the soil beneath the house and jack up the raised foundation onto these piers, which made sense to us. We paid them not only for that work, but also for the services of a third-party engineer whom they hired on our behalf, permitting, city inspections, and so forth. We signed the papers agreeing to the work on October 28, 2013. Saber assured us, repeatedly, that the work be completed by the end of December. And we obtained a home improvement loan to pay for the work, which was valid only until February 25--seemingly plenty of time. But from November through February, the project encountered one delay after another. For example, the engineer was at least three weeks late in submitting the original plans (after not seeing the plans in mid-November as I expected, Saber said they'd arrive "by 11/22," but they didn't appear until 12/12). Then the city requested changes to the plans (twice), and each iteration of engineering and permitting took far longer than expected. At least half a dozen times, Saber promised to do or check on something and get back to me within a day or two, and then after a week or two with no contact, I'd have to ask for updates, and the cycle continued. The bulk of the work was finally done on February 12-13, 2014. But only when the workers were onsite did they tell me that it was impossible to install the sill plates the engineer had specified (for connecting the foundation to the wall) because of insufficient height in our crawl space. This required another round of changes to the plans and another round of permitting. However, the engineer had inspected our house in person and should therefore have known there wouldn't be enough space to do this in the first place. The work was completed on February 24, just one day before our loan expired. Another surprise was that a portion of our porch steps had to be jackhammered away to make room for the piers--no one ever mentioned anything about that before. That meant we had to later spend hundreds of dollars on concrete work to restore it. In addition, only when the workers were present was it suggested that polyurethane foam should be injected under the front porch, because the piers stabilized only the front edge of it, not the rest. We did that, at a significant extra expense, and it turned out to be a good thing, too, because there was a massive void under the porch that would have left it sinking and pulling part of the front wall with it. No one explained why that hadn't been proposed in the first place. The cost of the foam was nearly the same as the cost of the plates we were unable to install, so that part was a wash cost-wise. The fellows who did the actual work--the digging, pier installation, foam injection, and so on--were great. I can't in any way fault the quality of their work or their professionalism. Other than maybe being a bit haphazard with restoring the landscaping, they did their part of the job brilliantly. I can't complain (so far, anyway) about the stuff that actually happened to our house. However, I am not at all happy with Saber as a company. I was already unhappy about the repeated delays and failure to keep us updated, but one last mistake really upset me. Only on February 19, after the main portion of the work was done, did Saber send us an invoice for an additional $2,887. We were aware that there might be some slightly higher costs compared to the estimate, but of that amount, $2,037 was for Permits. The estimate we'd agreed to in writing, back in October, listed only $450 for Permits. When I inquired about the difference, Saber said that it was out of their hands, that the city had changed regulations at the beginning of the year to make permitting more expensive and they were just passing those costs along to us. However, no one mentioned anything about this to us at the beginning of the year, or before the work was done. Had we known about the higher costs in advance, we might have cancelled the project. More to the point, if Saber had finished the job by the end of December as originally promised, presumably these fee increases wouldn’t have applied. The delays themselves were bad enough, but the financial implications of those delays was worse, and the failure to inform us about them before sending us an invoice--after the work was done--was the worst part of all. I wrote an email complaining about this, and a representative from the company phoned me to apologize. I said, "I appreciate your call and I'm glad you're sorry, but does that mean you'll take responsibility for the price increase?" He said no, they already absorbed too many extra expenses dealing with permitting that hadn't been passed along to us. I said that wasn't my problem--if they're not going to charge customers for a service, they can't complain if it gets too expensive for them. I told Saber that since they didn't do the right thing by either completing the work on time or informing me in advance of potential cost increases, they, and not I, should bear that cost difference. But they completely shut down that idea. All this left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I liked Saber's technology and I was pleased with the actual work done. But I felt mistreated as a customer--overcharged, misled, and ignored. I suspect there are really only one or two people at the company making these customer-hostile decisions, and I hate to ding the whole company over that. But before I were to hire Saber again or recommend them to someone else, I would need to see evidence of reform. I have written to Saber to detail my experiences in writing and invite them, once again, to absorb the $1,587 difference in permitting costs that I feel were their responsibility. That would certainly go a long way toward convincing me that they're worth doing business with, all the other issues notwithstanding.
Description of Work: Installed 3 resistance piers and 2 helical piers to lift and stabilize front wall of house. Also injected polyurethane foam under front porch slab to lift it.

Called for a quote to raise the front of my house. The salesman Joe was very professional and inspected the area giving me a quote of $7300.00. This would also include injecting polymer under the front porch and stairs to raise them up level with the rest of the house. The porch raising was the deciding factor for me as I was going to have to reconstruct them otherwise.Their four color booklet and pitch gave me the confidence to sign and give a 10% deposit. I was a little concerned when the contract did not actually state that the porch would be raised level, but Joe said he couldn't put that in but that he was sure it could be accomplished. Joe Johnson said that they were just starting another project in my neighborhood and would be on my job in a week. A week later the office called to schedule an appt. which would be about 10 days later. Prior to the appt. Joe came back to inspect my foundation again. The crew arrived and dug around the foundation and found the main water line which ran next to the front of the house. They said I would have to remove it and then replace it because it was in their way. It was the main water line. I told them that was not something I was prepared to do at this time. I knew this could run over $2000 easily. After a lot of discussion between the foreman and the office and Joe. I don't think the owner was included, they offered to remove the line but said I would have to replace it. This was not acceptable because obviously replacement was the expensive part. They then said they would have to pull out if I didn't agree to the deal and I said that is unfortunate but that is their choice. Another half hour of phone and then Joe called me to say he is willing to lift the house with polymer instead of piers and that it would only cost around $5000. Because I had read their information regarding fixing foundations I knew that would not be any kind of lasting solution. I was pretty surprised he would even offer it after his sales pitch had convinced me of the ineffectiveness of this sort of solution. The crew was told to leave and they filled in some of the dirt they had removed but not all and left. I called the office and spoke to Lynn Brandt about when I would receive my $750 deposit back and she said right away but they had to verify some things. A week passed and I heard from their sales manager who was trying to find a way to resolve the issue but I told him I had decided to go a different way. He said fine but now it has been two weeks and no check. I spoke to Lynn a couple of more times and she is now saying they are still deliberating on what to do. She said "after all, the crew was there for half a day". I am livid, I have wasted a lot of time and now am being threatened with losing money too. Stay Away!!
Description of Work: They were contract to install four piers and lift the front of my house back to level. They were also to inject polymer underneath my porch and stairs lifting and stabilizing it and bringing it up to level with the house.

This was a postive experience even though we did not use Saber Construction's services at this time. The technician went out of his way to identify areas of concern in regards to water intrusion. Some of the items discussed had nothing to do with what the company might sell us somewhere down the road. However, we are now going to discuss these issues with a building engineer for further advice. I am thank full for this extra information that went above and beyond a call to quote injecting epoxy beneath the cement at our Condominium Complex.
Description of Work: The technician was very knowledgable about cement and water damage. He surveyed the entire property including a look in our crawl space. Within a few days we had a bid for work. At this time, the project is tabled while we speak to a building engineer about our water problems. However, if it looks like we will need to have the voids in the filled with an epoxy material then we will contact Saber again.

We didn't have to do it but we wanted it done in case we want to sell the house or something like that. It wasn't a big deal because the house was not displaced whatsoever but we wanted it to be 100 percent. The guy was a really good worker and he was great but he made a lot of dust. We were painting and doing a lot of work so we didn't have closet doors on our wardrobe so it would have been nice if he had covered it or let us know ahead of time what they were going to do with the cement and all of that. It got really dusty and we had no idea. They could have covered our stuff and let us know ahead of time what they were going to do because we were clueless. It was really, really dusty and there was dust all over the house.
Description of Work: We used Saber Foundation because we had a hairline crack in our bedroom. It was a diagonal crack but it was not displaced. They filled it up and drilled and put some stuff inside. They made it so that we could put a wooden floor in.

The service was excellent. They provided a one hour window to show up, and were present at the very beginning of the window. The inspector was friendly and explained what he was looking for at each step, and why he did not feel there was an issue. They waived the inspection fee because he was able to determine that there were no issues very quickly.
Description of Work: I requested a foundation inspection, because I had observed some cracking in the external brick facade and wanted to make sure there weren't deeper problems. The inspector came to my house and took some measurements of the floor to detect settling. He inspected the window and door frames. He said that there was no indication of any problems, and since he didn't have to do a full inspection, he waived the $250 fee for the inspection.
