I am very disappointed with SOD Builders - I had researched many companies for roofing work, and after reading all the positive reviews about SOD Builders on Angie's list, I had just about made up my mind that they were the best company to do the job. I called SOD during the second week of August and asked for a roofing estimate, explaining that I was in the process of buying a house, but there had been delays in closing the escrow because the title company had to clear up some problems before the loan could be funded. We had intended to close in early July, but now had problems because I am scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in early September and I wanted the work done before I left so I needed a quote ASAP and then would schedule the work right away (even if it meant having the work done before the close of escrow). In fact, I made very sure they understood that I was under a lot of time pressure and needed work done immediately. Anyway, to make a long story short, SOD told me that they could come out on Friday, Aug 24 (about 2 weeks after my call), and that the scheduled time would be a 2-hour window from 12-2 pm. I told them that was fine, and that I would be there to meet their estimator there at noon. SOD called me the day before the estimate (Thursday) to remind me of the appointment, and I assured them I would be there. My wife and I both took time off from work to be at the property before noon (we both work some distance away, so we each took an hour to get there. Then we sat and waited outside for SOD to show up. I called SOD at 1 pm to ask if they anyone was coming, and was told yes. Then we waited for over another hour, and we finally left at 2:15. The problem that I have with SOD is the lack of courtesy and professionalism - they were supposed to show up at noon, and had a two hour window for delays due to traffic or other reasons. But this was a no-show, and if a contractor does not come on time when he is trying to get business, and does not even call to let you know he will be late, how likely will it be that they may not show up to do the work on schedule after the contract is signed? I will say that the woman that I spoke to at SOD when I called at 2:15 to say I was leaving was very apologetic and said there was no excuse for being late. Then she called me back 20 minutes later to say that their man had arrived, but my wife and I were already miles away, with each of us going back to work after having wasted 3 hours waiting for someone who did not even have the courtesy to call. This roofing job was virtually theirs (and it should have been well over $10K for the house, garage and utility building), and I also needed the floors refinished, interior and exterior painted, and other work. But SOD Builders will not be getting the job because they could not even call to say that they would be late.

He was prompt, very detailed and prepped it. We very meticulous. Great job and we want them to come back again!

We bought the $999 special that was offered through Angie's List and were very, very pleased with everything from beginning (scheduling, confirming, etc) to end. The two guys came on time, were very professional, and they painted during two of the hottest days of the summer. We've already recommended them to a friend who's looking for someone to paint her place.

I contacted the company to come out for an estimate on a new roof. The person that came was on time and professional. The appointment was for 12:30 and he was on time. The person that came for the estimate came into my home and asked what kind of work I needed to be done. I advised I was in need of a new roof. For the person that was going to do the estimate, he would need to go up on the roof. He asked me "Do you have a ladder so I can go up on your roof?" Once I heard that, I said, "thank you for coming out but seeing you don't have a Ladder, I won't be needing your service" and I asked the person to leave. I said I'm not trying to be rude at which time I was told that I am rude. If a company can't bring a ladder to an estimate, will they bring the tools needed for the job? The reason I had called this company for the estimate in the first place was that they had a coupon for a great deal. I have to say I'm sure glad I did not purchase the coupon. First impressions with me are everything and no ladder to a job that requires a person to go up on the roof is a poor first impression. Do: I have no do's for this companyDon't: Don't hire a company that bring a ladder to a job that needs a ladder to perform an estimate on a job that requires one.

Painter was on time, painters did good quality work and completed more than I had hoped could get done in the 40 hrs.

To start was rocky because there was a light rain for the scheduled start on Friday morning, but it was forecasted only for the a.m. . no worries. I thought it was odd that they wanted to start on Memorial Day, as their commitment was to be complete by the following Sunday, which was the amount of vacation time I had taken. My warning was that I would only write the check, on site, at the agreed intervals. The first issue was that when the tear off crew showed up they found a couple of my wheel barrels to move the debris, without permission and were non apologetic when I came out to check progress. The second issue was the Sales / Project Manager did not have a sample of GAF roof that was in the proposal, but he brought two other roofs that were "just as good", but didn't match the roof on a porch that wasn't being replaced. He couldn't provide a sample on Monday or Tuesday, but took a piece of the old roof and promised to match it prior to ordering. Mid-morning on Wednesday, the material was delivered and being staged on the roof, when the PM admitted that he was wrong, it was a shade lighter than what he had promised. He said he would take it back if I wanted. My dilemma was that I would lose at least a day, he hadn't verified that the right roof in stock in sufficient quantities and my house was totally exposed and timeline in jeopardy. I wasn't happy, but I settled, and still have regrets. Then the contract included installing a skylight if I purchased and provided. But when it was time to install the flush mounted window, another excused precluded when I was told that it needed to have a structural engineer prepare plans. In addition, the flashing's specified on the contract were not installed. The roof was having the finishing touches by Friday and the PM was by mid-morning to pick up another check. He reminded me about the permit fees and I told him that I needed a copy of the permit, which he agreed with. When I asked about the gutter installation, he reported it would start on Saturday and would be completed. Went to lunch to return to find 3 guys starting the install, but no one showed up the next day, which prompted a call that resulted in one person coming on Sunday to finish. There were a couple of poor solution to some aesthetic issues, but then again, there was only one guy. The PM came that day for the gutter payment, but didn't have the permit copy, so I paid in full with that exception. I found it strange that I was asked several times, by the PM & office to pay permit fees without proof and I was just given a figure. The office even sent me an invoice the indicated that I had paid in full. After the first rain I found that the gutters leaks at all the joints, but I feel that I have no recourse, that is scarey because SOD give you a 10 year warranty. Then I received a mechanic's lien on my property by the gutter installer claiming $2350.After several failed attempts of getting a permit copy, I got it but it had cost to install a electrical plug & a hose bib @ $70, that was never done. I requested these charges be removed and they agreed. It wasn't all bad, as best thing about the job was that the price was great, due to a takeoff mistake, when preparing the estimate. The second was the smoothness of the roof install and the way they swept & removed trash before leaving for the site. All I really want to do is to get a lein release, pay my fees, get someone to respond to the leaks and move on. So, I didn't get the roof I wanted, no skylight, my gutters leak, SOD apparently didn't pay their sub and I have a mechanic's lien.

Perfectly - painter arrived on time and completed job in 2 1/2 hours.

They showed up thinking they were painting an interior room. After financial negoiating, things went better.

The service was great. Very easy to talk to Gale the contact. He explained everything they were having to do and the materials they would be using. They inspected our home and gave us some upgrade ideas.

Carlos arrived on time, worked very hard all day and did and excellent job of removing damaged stucco and re-stuccoing. He was very polite and helpful.

On time, excellent work and works quickly, but accurately.

I can't say enough about Oren and his crew at SOD Builders. My wife and I had a lot of work done at our house and have used a number of contractors over the years and now that we've found Oren we have our contractor for life. He's experienced, thorough, very well organized and a total pleasure to work with. He's totally accessible at all hours by phone and text and gets back to us very promptly whenever we need him or have a question. And the quality of work done by him and his team has been incredible. His ideas were invaluable and every single person on his crew was a total pro and craftsman at his trade and they always left the work site spotless after each day. We always knew exactly who was going to come out each day and what specific work was going to be performed and all workers were punctual, polite and a pleasure to have at our house. And the working relationships between Oren and his crew were great which helped everything to be cohesive and very well coordinated. My wife and I made many changes throughout both the design and construction phases and Oren was patient and helpful and thorough in helping us think everything through. And in addition to all of this Oren's pricing was extremely fair and he was always willing to work with us to find ways to be efficient and save wherever possible. As I said my wife and I have had a lot of experience with many contractors over the years and we had just about given up on finding a superstar who could really deliver on all levels until we met Oren. Do yourself a favor and have him out to bid on your project and have him handle it. This review was very easy to write and practically wrote itself as I really can't say enough about Oren and his crew. My wife and I are already thinking about what he can do for us next!

Despite our having to change the scheduled date twice, SOD Builders were extremely accommodating and very professional. They re-confirmed the appointment the day before and the contractor arrived punctually on the day of the appointment. The contractor was knowledgeable about the various aspects of the work - plumbing, painting, and patching. We had several windows and door frames that were unfinished. The contractor patched, sanded and painted all the window trims and the doorway sashes. Also, we had a water filter that had to be installed in the kitchen sink. The contractor ably connected the filter and ensured it was flowing and functioning properly. I'm very happy with the work performed.

It went very well. We did consult with me over the entire renovation. I had some tiles they ended up using. They did a great job. Everything is working perfectly. They did shower instead of a tub. I will use them to do my other bathroom soon.

The service was good but the price was a little bit high for me. Afterwards while looking at it, there were some flaws on the concrete.

The bottom line is that I am quite satisfied with the work they did. They had to redo the dormers because the patch work they did initially was not smooth and the result was a bumpy looking surface. After they redid them, they looked much better. The front of the house looks so much better than it did - there were a lot of places where the paint was flaking a bit. Now it looks almost new. I did have to ask them to come back and pick up some debris that had been scattered around as a result of scraping off the old paint. They did come back and clean up to my satisfaction.

They didn't want to send anyone out to give me an estimate on how long it would take to do the job. Therefore they didn't know & I didn't know whether the Big Deal would cover what I needed. It was surprising - I felt they'd misrepresented their service & requested a refund from Angie's List.

They came out to my home and examined the work to be done. They left and said they would give a response with a quote and never heard from them again. I wish they would just let me know if they were unwilling to do the service from the beginning.

It took 3 days for the process to be completed. I was very happy with the final result. The house and trim looked great! The team also took great care to make sure that everything was cleaned up and looked great! I would have no hesitation recommending this company to my friends and family for any of their home repair, or remodeling.

We just got a quote with from them and the price was too high, and we are not going to use them.

There was some confusion between us on the price for individual projects. They gave me an estimate for four projects with separate prices. then when I said I wanted to get started with just two of the projects they said the prices would change. They offered to send the owner out to clarify, which I was satisfied with. When we met, the owner indicated one of the projects would require architectural drawings which quickly priced the job out of my range. I did agree though to do the smallest project- pouring concrete stairs. I offered to write a check for the job and the owner said he didn't want the money. He said he would contact me within 24 hours to schedule the job. Needless to say I never heard back from them. I don't know what the issue was but I suspect he didn't want to bother with a small job so he just placated me but never intended to follow up. I would not recommend them just because their customer service is less than satisfactory.

overall the job went well. There were a couple of small problems however, upon calling Gil, he reacted swiftly and the problems were resolved without delay. The crew was very careful in making sure no overspray it my neighbor's home. They covered all my cars with plastic to make sure no overspray landed on the cars. They swept and cleaned up after the end of their shift each and every day on the job. The crew was very polite and asked little of me.

Oscar was excellent, on time, clean and professional.

Carlos arrived early and got to work at 8:00 am. Carlos has a great work ethic and cleaned up and put materials away.
