Response from AAA Woodcrafters
Well, I think "told me to get my money back" is a bit harsh. I explained to the gentleman that if the total price was not something he wanted to invest in his furniture the great part about the $99 'Deal' is it is completely refundable. So nobody loses out. I completely understand if someone buys the coupon and then realizes the total cost is not in their price point. That's what is great about these 'deals' - if they are not the right fit for whatever reason they are 100% refundable.

Keith gave a quick response to all my emails. The price was my show stopper.
Description of Work: I asked for an estimate and sent pictures of the table that needed to be refinished. The quote was double what I thought it would be. His work may be beautiful. it is not fair to review his work without having anything done. The table I wanted refinished was not worth that much so, No thank you.

Keith was very professional upon seeing the table and cart, and explained every step of the work he would do given the age and condition of the two pieces of furniture. After the refinishing was done, the table and cart looked wonderful with a beautiful sheen, but we discovered that there was some chipping on the surface of the table's refinish once we began to use it again. (The cart remains in great shape and is just like new!) I contacted Keith who responded immediately, and determined that the table needed a different treatment due to the condition of the wood. He took the table back to the shop, stripped it again and then did a meticulous job of deep waxing the wood instead of using a finish again. The table is back home and looks spectacular. Keith and AAA Woodcrafters not only did a great job, but he was extremely knowledgeable and professional in caring for our family heirloom and greatly extending its life. He is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend AAA.
Description of Work: I found AAA Woodcrafters through an Angie's list discount deal, and they took on the job of stripping and refinishing a quite-beat up teak dining table (with 2 leaves) and teak tea cart, that have been in the family more than 40 years.

Great experience. I had an old wooden table that has served me well for many years. Most recently it has been on our back patio where it has been exposed to rain and sun. I was able to drop off the table and then pick it up a few weeks later. Keith was able to identify the many problems with the table -missing piece, gaps between sections of the table top and many stains in the wood and was confident about doing the repair work except for the stains. He explained he would attempt to get the stains off but given the name and the darkness of many of them he made no promises. He was able to make the needed repairs. Although he did not get all the signs of stains out of the wood, the table top looked so good. The table looked much better than I ever thought it would. He went beyond my expectations by also sanding the table so it was ready for me to refinish. He knew my plan to refinish the piece and it was easier for me to do with his suggestions and also because he did the extra step of sanding (with no additional charge).
Description of Work: Keith at AAA Woodcrafters repaired an old wooden table. The table had a missing piece, stains and many gaps between the pieces of wood after being out in the weather for many years. Keith repaired and prepped the table for me to refinish. His work exceeded my expectations. In addition he provided me with valuable guidance for refinishing the piece. He was pleasant to work with and delivered the job in a timely manner.

We purchased a beautiful 1950s Heywood Wakefield vanity with a large, attached mirror. For delivery, naturally the mirror was detached. We were provided the mirror supports that supposedly were original with the vanity. When we went to mount the mirror it quickly became obvious we did not have the correct supports. Over the course of the next year, we contacted several companies and individuals to attach the mirror for us with not much luck. They either did not respond, came out and provided an estimate but never responded again, or at worst, charged $100 for an estimate and then never responded again. When I saw the "big deal" from AAA Woodcrafters, I thought I would try again as he had great ratings. It finally appeared as though we had reached someone who was knowledgeable and operated in a professional manner. Keith was promptly on time and did a thorough evaluation of the piece. He called in his woodworking expert who was also promptly on time for his appointment. The ultimate fix was some modification to the supports and the addition of a piece of wood to the bottom of the mirror that was missing as well. The result is beautiful. I am thrilled to finally have this piece functional and done right! I highly recommend Keith and would definitely use him again.

Had an old piece of furniture from the 40's refinished. I had stripped most of it, with the intention of refinishing it myself. Turns out that there were several kinds of wood on the piece, and they do not take stain in the same manner. After discovering that, I knew that the work needed to be done by a professional, or at the least someone who knew a whole lot more than me about this type of work. Andrew is a super nice guy to deal with, and gave me plenty of good advice on my other "projects". He did a good job on the piece, and I will use him again. I only gave a "B" on the price, but that is probably just because I am a not used to paying others for this type of service. In other words, I do feel that his price was very competitive, but I guess that I was hoping for a bargain. Overall, my experience with AAA Woodcrafters was excellent, and I recommend the company.

Keith did an excellent job in bringing back to life a very old rocking chair that had been damaged slightly during a move and then stored for several years in our garage. He provided a timely service and the chair was ready only slightly later than promised. This was not an issue since I had not provided a deadline and was happy the work was done properly. The price quoted (and paid) was higher than I had expected, after paying $99 for an Angie's coupon worth $200. (Total cost for the work was $475 before Angie's discount). Not having had furniture repair work done in many years, I assume the price was fair. The final finished product was worth the cost to me.

I bought a drop leaf table that seats 8 at a consignment store and it needed repair of the supports that hold up the leaves and also some work on the top of the table. Turns out the table is between 100-150 years old and is made from cherry wood. It is really beautiful. Keith took it and fixed the supports underneath and the top of the table is now very impressive bringing out the wood grain and a gorgeous color. He sanded it a couple times, put a slightly darker color on it, ended with shellac on the top, but left the underneath as it was as evidence of its age. He returned it sooner than I thought he would, having picked it up on February 6, returning it February 15; very fast service for a job like this. He still has 6 of my small antique chairs that are also in need of repair and finishing; some of them need caning. He said about two more weeks to finish with those. I can hardly wait to see what they look like on return. I HIGHLY recommend him and the work that he does. You should look at his website too to see examples of all that he can do, lots of photos and testimonials of customers: www.AAAWoodcrafters.com You will be very pleased with his work, professionalism, and his business manners. EXCELLENT, what more can I say.

All good. I paid Keith a $50.00 deposit and he emailed me an invoice for the remaning balance.
Description of Work: I had AAA Woodcrafters (Keith Andrew) make me a new kitchen cutting board. I brought my old one in and Keith used it as a pattern for the new one. He took the visible part off the old board and put it on the new board to match my kitchen cabinets. The new one fits fine and it is made out of solid hardwood, unlike the old board which was made from plywood. The location is very close to where I work, so it was very convenient, too. A good experience for me.

See above. HE IS GREAT AND DOES GREAT WORK.
Description of Work: I bought the Angie's list deal and called Keith to give me an estimate on several projects. I hired him to re-build one of our kitchen drawers (which had fallen apart and had been "mickey mouse" repaired by my husband. He took the facing of the drawer and build a new drawer for us. I had a kitchen cabinet door that was coated with melamin (not sure of spelling) and whose corner had melted due to the heat of the toaster oven beneath it. He said that he could not match it to the rest of the cabinets and drawers, but could copy it out of wood and paint it to match. When he installed it, I could not believe it. It would never be taken to not be the original. It is beautiful. I had some issues with most of the hinges on cabinets around the house. and some touch up things to be done on my office desk and chair. He charged me for the kitchen drawer and making the new cabinet door. It was a very fair price. Then, he touched up my desk, tightened all of the hinges around the house, fixed a loose slider in a closet drawer and did not charge any more than the price for the afore mentioned repairs that I commissioned him to do. He is a very polite, courteous young man. He was punctual, called ahead of our appointments to confirm the appointment and his arrival time and did truly great !! work. I will call him when I need something else done. I am super pleased with him and his work.

I initially contacted this company as a result of purchasing a Big Deal from Angie's List. I had a gorgeous entertainment console that had its finish marred by several years of abuse from kids, pets, and the occasional clueless adult. Keith was prompt in replying to my call for an appointment. He came to my home to inspect the piece and to provide an estimate for the repair. I must admit that I was shocked at the price ($800 minus $100 from the Big Deal credit), but since his Angie's List reviews were excellent and the piece is a focal point in the room, I proceeded with the repair. It took several attempts to get our schedules in synch so that he could work the repair into his schedule, but this was primarily due to some unforeseen scheduling issues on my end. Once he picked up the piece, it took approximately a week to refinish it. When he returned it, I was pleasantly shocked at how BEAUTIFUL it looked! It looked as if I had just purchased it! I could not have been happier, and the price was worth every penny. So as to prevent some of the damage from recurring, I wisely purchased a custom-made piece of glass to place on the top of the console to protect it from the TV, people throwing their keys on it, etc. The bottom line is that I will DEFINITELY use Keith's services again and heartily recommend him. It is a rare thing to find a true craftsman in this day and age. I'm really glad I did!

cccinitalHaving never had furniture refinished, I had no idea of the expense involved or just where his facility was located. My first mistake was not asking how much it would cost before I committing to the project. The table was an item my late husband had made in wood shop in high school. My mother-in-law lent it to a renter and gave him permission to paint it. I thought it deserved better treatment and I decided to have it restored. Keith did a wonderful job. Any complaints I may have are mine alone. I live in Spring Valley and I had to deliver the table to his shop in Encinitas or pay $100 delivery fee. I was already in over my head with the $275 so I delivered and picked up the table. I might add that I am 74 years old and am not comfortable driving out of my personal area. These problems are my responsibility, not Mr. Andrew's as I never shared my concerns with him and feel I am responsible for my actions. This job was a learning/lesson which I will consider in any other project I may decide to undertake.

A fantastic experience from beginning to end. Keith is professional, detailed oriented and does quality work. You could not ask for someone more reliable then Keith. Everyday they showed up on time and the job was completed on time. My house was left clean when they finished. Keith and his crew were great to work with and I would highly recommend him. I just love my cabinets and know it was a great choice.
Description of Work: I had old oak cabinets that had been painted. I was not sure if I wanted to reface them or have them painted. I met with Keith who showed me examples of what could be done to update them by using paint and glaze. Keith then came out and gave me an estimate and went over exactly what would be done and how long it would take.Keith and his crew showed up on Monday to remove the cabinet doors(they were done off-site) and prep the remaining cabinets. They masked off the rest of the house and covered everything. By the end of the fifth day everything was completed and all the doors hung with new knobs and pulls.

AAA Woodcrafters responded promptly to my inquiry, came by to see the table, and took the table right away to the workshop. Within 3 days I had my table back in my kitchen looking like new. They also filled in any scratches/dents in the wood and gave advice on keeping it in good condition. The only slight drawback was the cost. $850 seems steep to me for work that was polishing and buffing, not a full refinish. The way I interpreted the "Big Deal" was that the full cost of having 1 item refinished was included in the up front price. This was not the case. This is probably more of an issue with the advertising on Angie's List versus the vendor. I would definintely use AAA Woodcrafters again and have recommended them to others with the caveat that they are "very pricey". They do great work, and in this case you definitely pay for what you get.
Description of Work: I had some discoloration on a nice dark wooden 8-top table as a result of a hot plate being placed on it. The resulting work required using a chemical compound to extract the condensation from under the finish, buff, and determine if stripping and refinishing was needed. The good news is I didn't need the strip/refinish and they were able to fill in many dents/scratches as well.

I am sorry this review is so late. I am not sure of the date the work was done. I always kept our large oak dining room table covered with pads and a tablecloth and then decided that the wood was so beautiful, it should be uncovered. When I did this, I noticed that one end of the table did not fit flush with the leaf next to it. A clamp was missing and the dowels from the end had broken off and therefore could not fit into the holes of the leaf next to it. So there was one part of the table that was 1/8 of an inch higher than the other. I was worried that it might be warped beyond repair. I wasn't sure who to ask to try to fix it. I had a handyman try to fix our table, and he said it was missing a clamp and he could not find anything that matched to repair it. When Angie's List had a "Big Deal" for furniture repair, I purchased it for $100 (worth $200). I talked to Keith, and our conversation was a bit odd and did not leave me with a comfortable feeling. He wanted photos of what was wrong, did not want to come out to look at the table, and said he would get back to me. I had to call him a few days after I sent the photos, because I did not hear from him, which did not add to my comfort level. What I later found out is that he subcontracts/refers out certain work to another gentleman. He was probably waiting to hear from the person he subcontracts with to see if he could do the job and Keith was probably quite busy himself. We finally scheduled a date, and a gentleman by the name of Mark showed up. He was extremely professional, nice, efficient and knew what he was doing. He replaced the missing clamp, removed an old clamp and replaced it as well, repaired the "tongs" (this may not be the right word, but they are the wooden dowels that fit into the holes of the leaves). He said the table was dry in the area of the sides of the leaves and that I should oil them. He asked if I had any oil, and I had very old sewing machine oil. He said that would work and oiled the sides of all the leaves with his hands and fingers (I was afraid the oil would drip on the white wool carpet below, but luckily he caught some drops just as they were ready to fall--yikes!). It would have been nice if he had brought his own furniture oil and had a plastic dropcloth. This was probably a job that was way below his skill level, but I so appreciated that there was someone who could make my table look right again. He showed me how to oil it myself periodically in the future. He was very complimentary of the table, how sturdy and well made it was and he commented that "they don't make them like this anymore." By the time he finished, the table fit flush and I could easily slide leaves in and out. It took him about 30-40 minutes to repair the table. In all, I paid $200 for the work, which I thought was fair. However, the Big Deal cost $100 for $200 worth of work. So the work would supposedly actually cost $300, which I think is high for 30-40 minutes of work (although I really am not an expert is this area), and I would have shopped around if I had been quoted $300. Keith called a few weeks later to ask if everything had gone well, and I said yes, that I was quite pleased. It was nice that he followed up.
