Scheduling the appointment with the receptionist was easy. The repairman arrived on time. He thoroughly checked both the furnace unit in the garage and the condenser unit outside. Both were OK. He then Inspected the ducts in attic. He found one of three major trunk lines had disconnected from the plenum (due to failure of old duct tape). He also found a partially crushed branch line, probably due to previous workers in attic stepping on it. Diagnosis and repairs (retaping trunk duct to plenum and bending branch duct back into shape) were both completed in about 1 hour and the HVAC system tested OK. Total cost was $201 ($69 flat fee for the diagnosis plus another $132 flat fee for the "Level 1" repairs). The price was not outrageous, but I thought the diagnostic fee of $69 should have applied toward the "Level 1" repair fee of $132 since the job only took 1 hour and the cost of parts (foil tape) was minimal. Nevertheless, I was very pleased overall with their service and I'll use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Diagnosis of poorly performing heating & air conditioning system.

Huft was professional from the day I asked them to come out to give me an estimate and when I told them that the first company to come out to give me an estimate had tried to pressure me into making a decision on the spot by offering one-day only discount, they knew right away which company I was talking about (Bell Brothers). The two guys from Huft were not only knowledgeable but also had a great sense of humor, which I appreciated. They gave me a good estimate and found ways to meet my budget while also getting me all the available rebates that would apply. On the day of installation, everything went perfectly, and my new system tested out like one in a new home. Even the County inspector remarked on the good job that was done. Once the job was completed, the office staff helped to prepare the necessary paperwork for me to submit for two rebates while they sent in two other rebates for me. Some of the paperwork they mailed to me had the wrong address on it, but once I told them, they corrected it and sent it out right away. The company couldn't be more pleasant to work with. Kaye, who answers the phone, always asks what she can do to "make me smile." I was extremely pleased with the job, and when all the rebates come in, I will have only paid half of the actual cost!

The service man was very friendly and thorough. He first confirmed that I DID NOT have a cracked heat exchanger, then he told me that my AC coils were NOT corroded and in need of replacement (both were problems the other companies had "found"). He did, however, find a stuck vent on the system that was causing it to not cool the house, freeze up the system and cause the water leak. After fixing the very simple problem, he explained that the repair was included in the cost of the assessment and that I did not need a new system. It has been a couple weeks and we have a much cooler home and no other problems. Huft Heating and Air is honest, friendly and most importantly, competent!
Description of Work: My AC was leaking through our ceiling. After two companies charged me more than $400 to tell me I needed to replace the entire system (8k - 9k), I contacted Huft for a third opinion. I did this because I received conflicting information from other two companies. Huft came out at the time scheduled and did a complete assessment of my system (with me watching). He made the simple repair that both other companies missed on their combined three visits.

Called Kay, "How can we make you smile?", for an estimate on a new central heat and air system. Estimate appointment was made at my convenience and salesperson Ryan was on time, very professional and friendly, and did a great job explaining what size and type of system would work best after evaluating our house, our needs and our budget. He answered all questions thoroughly and explained entire installation procedure to my satisfaction. I was told that the final bill would not change from the estimate no matter what they encountered (and it didn't!). Then to top it off he pulled out a coupon, that I was unaware of, for a new water heater for $1.00. Well he must have been reading my mind, because I was seriously considering replacing my 34 year old 30 gallon water heater soon anyway. And he upgraded it to a 40 gallon without any added cost. In the end I was never even charged the $1.00. After comparing his estimate with three other highly rated Angie's list companies, Huft won out and I had it installed that same week. Kevin, Randy and Jon were on time, very professional and accomodating when I realized that the new system would protrude farther above the roof line than I thought, they made some adjustments so it was set lower to my satisfaction. They were quick, quiet, clean and forgiving when my teenage son forgot and turned on the water while they were changing out the water heater. They definitely pay attention to detail and everything was very neat and clean when they were done. They tested everything and taught me how to use the new thermostat. They also filed the SMUD rebate for me and made sure I had everything necessary to file my Cash for Appliances Rebate and tax credit. After all rebates, credits and of course the Angie's List discount, I will only pay $5742.00 out of pocket. Not too bad for a new central heat and air system and water heater! Oh and let's not forget Kay, with Kandra's help at times, answered all my questions (and made me smile!). I would recommend Huft to all my family and friends. I will definitely use them anytime there's a need. In this day and age it can be tough to find a trustworthy and reputable company. But Angie's List made it so much easier.
Description of Work: Installed new packaged central heat and air unit on roof and new gas water heater in garage. Enlarged air intake grill to correct size.

Our heating and air unit stopped working and skunks had destroyed the under house duct work. Our unit is about 15 yrs old. The Huft technician was able to identify the problem and provide us wit and estimate for the work including an offer to provide digital pictures of the damage. They were able to have our unit up and repaired in one day. We felt comfortable with the technician and our unit is functioning better than ever.

We moved from out of state and bought a REO home. Our project was complicated - an old, large, sprawling home with 3 old or stripped HVAC systems. We had quotes from multiple contractor and Brian was the only one who came up with idea to combine 2 of the units into a dual-zone system. No other contractor suggested the idea, but as soon as he mentioned it, it was like a light bulb went on - of course! Brian had the vision, intelligence, and experience to think outside the box. His plan saved us a lot of money and removed an unsightly rooftop combo unit. During the install, it was difficult to get some of the ductwork into a narrow attic space, and one of the registers was very difficult to reach (even worse, the register was embedded in brick). It looked like we might end up with a non-functional register - but they spent extra time and found a way to feed the duct and connect the register, despite the tight fit. Overall, they really focus on customer service and do a great job for a reasonable price. The company is easy to work with - they were easy to contact, the quote was all-inclusive and accurate (no hidden costs), they completed the work in the time-frame they promised, and it passed inspection with no problem. Not surprisingly, the system works great.

They were really great. Ryan was on time- amazing!!! and really nice and professional. They gave us the best bid price and threw in the water heater for free which really sold us. They made it so easy and they installed the system when we were on vacation. They found an unexpected leak which took a couple hours to fix, but there was no extra charge, and they installed three extra smoke detectors in our house because we were not up to code. Also no charge. Very happy with the service!!! Would recommend them to anyone.

Had an A/C motor burn up on an under sized new home. AC System. Lanny came out, gave us a no nonsense estimate and got the old AC working free of charge until the following week when Huft installed a proper size cubic ft AC unit, and a new heater and all the necessary equipment. Huft even gave us a new hiTech Water heater free of charge as a thank-you. Huft obtained all the necessary county permits and showed up on time and performed professionally, keeping our home spotlessly clean. Even the boss showed up to cover for an ill employee. the job was done on time with no problems. Anyone needing HVAC work, yoiu better call HUFT, they are simply the best and Kay, the phone receptionist is awesome too
Description of Work: Huft removed all the old AC and Heater units and ducts and installed an new efficient Amana 4 ton AC unit, and a new efficient heater and a larger air intake duct. They also removed our 10 year old water heater and installed a new efficient unit. They did not try to sell us anything we did not need. We were given the necessary rebate paperwork and a two-year service contract free, along with a limited lifetime warranty on the products. They cleaned up after themselves and took all the old materials away.

Arrived on time. Pet-friendly service tech. Offered to replace batteries in smoke detectors, which I appreciated. Unit needed Freon and I gave permission to add, cost was $106. Brian Huft met with us when promised, provided us with all the information we requested to compare his product with competitor's, gave us the lowest price and the best warranty. His crew installed our heat pump when promised and cleaned up very well after completing the work on time. Brian responded immediately to our concern about the new unit's cooling performance by insisting he come out to check the unit within 2 hours of our call, arriving at 8:15 pm. After about five hours of testing over the next two days he determined the faulty performance was caused by a malfunctioning metering valve in the new air handler. The part was replaced immediately and our new heat pump works wonderfully. We can certainly see why Huft Heating and A/C had earned a top rating of 97% on Angie's List Histogram. We couldn't be more pleased with their service, product and price, with the emphasis on service.
Description of Work: Replaced a 20 year old heat pump with a new energy-efficient heat pump and air handler, inspected and sealed to code the existing ducting. Replaced inadequate supply ducting and return air grille with larger sizes to accommodate better airflow.

The service person arrived promptly when expected. He went into the crawl space to inspect the heating and air conditioning systems and took photos of a defect in the ductwork. He also tested the air conditioner and took readings from the registers. It was recommended that we replace our 14-year old system before summer. It was a system that was installed by the builder and was not large enough or efficient for our home.

It went fantastic! We had called Huft originally to replace a furnace fan that shredded and left us cold in December. Brian Huft, the owner, recommended that we replace our 17-year old furnace and 38-year old a/c condenser. We had already been planning to do this work and after our initial great experience with Brian and his crew (and a competitive bid with a couple of other heating/a/c companies), the choice was simple. When the time came, Brian and his crew got the bulk of the work completed in one day, with some clean up work the following day. Given the complications of the job in our 80-year old house, the work went quickly. More important, Brian and crew were courteous, friendly, clean, and did quality work. Best of all, Brian is honest and responsive. We had a couple of minor issues after the job was complete that he took care of without question and with the same enthusiasm and courtesy as when we were making the contract and writing the checks. The new system has performed even better than Brian said it would and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. The one item we did not love is the remote control for our mini-split system (which otherwise works flawlessly), and Brian found us a programmable wall thermostat to control the unit and has come by twice to get it installed and working properly. We have continued to be amazed by Brian's efforts and his unfailing friendliness and customer service. We would highly recommend Huft Heating & Air to anyone looking for any HVAC-related services from repair to installation of new equipment!

We needed to replace our 20-year-old heat pump, as it wasn't heating or cooling very well anymore. We asked three companies to give us estimates, all three of which sent someone to our home. Brian Huft came personally and spent a couple of hours looking at our old system and discussing what he would recommend for us. He answered many questions and really took the time to help us decided on what he'd recommend for us. He even gave us his email and we exchanged a few emails during the time we were deciding. His estimate was about $3000 lower than the other company we were considering, but the deciding factor for us wasn't just the cost, it was also how honest he was and how willing he was to discuss our options. He knew what he was talking about and he wasn't trying to sell his company like the other guys had, he was trying to help us decide on the right system. His crew came on time on the day of installation and he came several times to check on how things were going. The crew was very professional and totally cleaned up afterward. The heat pump is working amazingly. I would recommend this company without hesitation. This is an update to my previous report on Huft Heating & Air. They installed a Rheem heat pump for us on 12/30/09. We were randomly picked to have the duct system rechecked by an independent company that certifies the work on heating/air conditioning companies, and that check was done today. The technician said the system passed - meaning it's not leaking air - and also commented on how well they had sealed the duct outlet at the intake in the ceiling. He said that he sees a lot of systems and that this was an excellent installation. We are still very pleased with our new system - so much more comfortable in the house now.
Description of Work: Installed a new Rheem heat pump - enlarged the air intake in the hallway ceiling, since this was a larger, three-ton, heat pump - replaced the concrete pad outside - replaced the outside electrical box for the heat pump - new thermostat - replaced all of the room registers and added dampers - replaced the secondary pan in the attic. Also sealed the duct system and performed the required duct test.

They are a local company and they do a good job. They come in and they take good care of the parts. They put runners down the floor when they are walking through. They make sure everything is clean. I called on a Friday afternoon, they were able to get someone there at 8 on Saturday morning. He was there, on time, and was very professional. The 22-year-old heater in my home stopped working on Tuesday. I called Bell Brothers but they were booked out to Wednesday. I was desperate to get some heat back into my house. I called Huft and immediately talked with a very nice lady (my apologies I forget her name... it might have been Nancy or Karen?). I told her about the situation and she said they'll put me at the top of the queue if any of their scheduled appointments cancel. After a few hours I got a call back and a nice tech named Lanny checked the unit. Sure enough it had a bad motor, cracks in the piping, and the condenser motor was covered with filth. It would have been inexpensive to replace the motor, but the cracks in the piping would've been very costly to fix. Plus it was about time. 22-years was a very good life. There was an option of $6700, but I told him this is really out of my budget. So he offer an alternative lower priced package for $4400 (includes unit, installation, taxes, hauling away old furnace, everything). High, but doable. He was able to schedule the job for Saturday morning at 7:30AM. WOW! Very cool. Saturday morning I woke up at 6:45 AM, unfortunately the installers didn't arrive until 8 AM. But there was two of them and they were able to install the unit in about an hour and half. Right now the installer in inspecting the piping for stability. I've been really impressed with the professionalism and speed they work. Oh and the quoted $49 to check the unit was waved. :) PS The job isn't 100% done, but I'm posting this report now.

When I first called them this morning, I spoke with Kay in their office. She was very friendly and told me they had a cancellation this afternoon. She told me that she would call me when the technician was on his way. She did call me and told me about when he would arrive. The service technician, Bob, arrived earlier than he was scheduled to. How unusual! Bob was very friendly, too, and seemed quite knowledgeable. He very clearly explained what he was doing and about the maintenance service program they offer. When I decided to sign up for the maintenance program, he included today's service as the first service. The invoice he wrote up also was quite thorough and itemized both what he did and the dollar amount of each thing. I will definitely recommend Huft to others.
Description of Work: One of my AC/Heater units was just blowing cold air. He quickly determined that there was a bad fuse. Replaced the fuse and did a diagnostic on the whole unit. Since neither of my two units had been serviced in quite awhile, I asked him what it would cost to do both and he explained their service program to me. I decided to go for it and he completely serviced both units, including the blower units in the house - one of which we couldn't find until we looked upstairs in a little closet for the attic access. He climbed around up in the attic for awhile checking the blower and the coils on the unit.

They were very efficient and their price was better than another estimate I got. It was quite a bit less. They put a type of duct in that nobody else mentioned. I had a problem with rats. They came when they said they would and they cleaned up afterwards. It was really good.
Description of Work: I used Huft Heating in June to repair ducts under my house.
