I phoned on Sunday the 11th and left a message on the service phone. Gary called me first thing this morning (just after 8 am). I explained that my fridge had stopped cooling but the freezer still worked. I mentioned that it was now at room temperature following a steady decline over 2 days time. He said he could make me his first call of the day-WOW! I g ave him the address and directions. He said he should be here in about half an hour. Ack! this gave me only a few minutes to pull the fridge out so he could get to it and clean up behind it. In my rush I broke a bottle of wine behind it, and was just getting the wet-vac when he arrived. I quickly cleaned up and put down a towel so he would not smell like wine all day-a little embarrassed to make him wait. I explained the prior problem two years hence and left him to work. Within 10 minutes he had ruled a recurrence out and determined that it was just frozen up--I had the freezer control too high and ice formed around the fan...doh!! He then removed the inner freezer panel and manually de-iced the works ( after helping me to empty the contents into a cooler); reassembled it, and was done in less than half an hour. He was very kind and showed me how to set the freezer and fridge controls to avoid a repeat performance- and told me what to do if the initial symptom of fan noise started again. Apparently it was hitting ice and not having bearing issues as I had thought. Well, I was a little embarrassed but very happy to have a working fridge again-it began to cool right away. Gary then floored me by saying that since he did not do an actual repair (mechanical), that he would only charge the fee he quoted for the service call ($55). He even took a check!! I insisted on a small tip-since it sure seemed like a repair to me-which he accepted graciously. He was out the door at 9:15 am. Time elapsed from returning my call at 8 am till he left my front door...one hour and 15 minutes!!!! Another amazing Angies List provider!!

Gary was very thorough. He took the time to go through the refrigerator and explain to me where a leak could originate. He also cleaned the condenser for me. I would highly recommend him for refrigerator repairs and maintenance and would hire him again.

TECH (GARY) CAME PROMPTLY AFTER A LATE AFTERNOON CALL. DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM IN MINUTES AND HAD SPARE PART IN TRUCK. REPAIRED FRIDGE, REASSEMBLED AND CLEANED UP PROPERLY. GARY WAS POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL. WHEN ICE MAKER WASN'T WORKING THE NEXT DAY IT ONLY TOOK A QUICK LOOK AT THE TROUBLESHOOTING MANUAL TO SEE THAT I ONLY HAD TO THROW A SWITCH ON TO SET IT BACK IN MOTION. WOULD HAVE LIKED A MORE OFFICIAL AND DETAILED RECEIPT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. VERY PLEASED WITH THE FAST RESPONSE AND PROFESSIONAL WORK.

When he arrived, he diagnosed the problem quickly, had all parts in his truck and had it repaired in an hour. He was efficient, friendly and professional. His charges were reasonable and I'd definitely recommend him.

I learned about General Refrigeration Co on Angies List. What a good decision. He arrived when promised, quickly diagnosed the problem, and fixed it. He also explained how I can check for similar issues in the past. Having experience with other Sub Zero repair companies in the past, I found Gary to be much more knowledgeable and personable. He would definitely be the person I'd call in again.

Gary was fantastic. He came within 2 hours of when I called, and was able to clean enough dust out of the fridge grille to at least get it to start working a little bit (which is helpful when your food is in there!). I also really appreciated how careful he was about containing the dust he was removing- he proactively took measures to make sure the whole kitchen didn't get dirty. We are still working with him to solve an additional problem of a malfunctioning fridge vent door, but he was super quick and very knowledgeable. I really appreciated the help.

We are very pleased with Gary. Our refrigerator broke down over the weekend and I called Gary on Monday evening after searching for different refrigerator repair technicians. Gary had great reviews so I decided to give him a call. He came by the next morning and within an hour had it fixed and ready to go. He was very nice and quite helpful and we would definitely use him again should our refrigerator have problems in the future.

He was very knowledgeable about refrigerators and very friendly. I was so glad to find someone on such short notice who could solve my problem so fast. I would definitely use him again.

Perfectly. The freezer fan was making a loud noise and wound down when I opened the refrigerator door. He told me to turn of the refrigerator, open the door (obviously empty it) then put a fan in front of it for 4 hours. I used a heating fan and did the job in 2 hours. Worked like a charm.

The freezer stopped working and the food was thawing out quickly. We called Gary at 7:30 in the morning and he was here within an hour. He diagnosed the problem quickly and had the replacement part in his truck. The whole service was done in 30 minutes. I'm so relieved to get the problem solved before we had to throw away the contents of the freezer. Gary told me that he had pushed back another client to do our repair first because he knows how expensive it is to replace food. Wow!

The ice cream melted and the beer got warm. Vacuumed under the fridge and turned the temp to coldest. Worked for a week and then the the veggies froze. Turned it down and woke up today to spring thaw. Called Gary at 9:30 this morning. He said it would be a $55 service call and he would call back to see if he could schedule today. He called at 10, and said he could be here between 11 and noon. Great ! He showed up promptly at 11, found a few missed dust bunnies and checked the temp sensor. Bingo. He had the part, fixed the fridge I gave him a check for $195. Total time 30 minutes. Well worth it. He is prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with.

Gary was quick, efficient, and professional. He clearly knows his stuff, wasting no time in isolating the problem and taking corrective action. Very impressive! It was all the better because he arrived here a little over an hour after I called him! Amazing, really. I know that I'll rely on him for any refrigerator repair work that we need. I am SO impressed with Gary and his service. When I went to get some frozen chicken it wasn't frozen and I had water on the floor around my 'frig-this was 5:30 this evening. I immediately went on Angie's list to see who to call because I didn't like the last repair person I had in. The first company I called didn't answer the second was Gary at General Refrigeration and he answered right away. He was on a call in Berkeley but would call me back. He called me back about 45 minutes later I told him the problem and that I had just stocked up on food Monday-he said he didn't want me to loose it so he would come (I live in Alameda). He was here by 7 and was able to fix my frig quickly. He was very nice and took time to show me why it was happening (I am overstuffing my freezer and 'frig not letting the air flow properly. I like to know things like this. I know he already had a long day and I appreciate him coming over so late. I will use him again an recommend to all!

I called the company 8 am in the morning; Gary answered and he was here around 9:30 am. My freezer was on the fritz; Gary showed me how the coils needed to be replaced. He had the part, so was able to get everything done in a half hour or so.I asked him about another freezer and refrigerator I was having minor issues with and he looked at both of them and gave me pointers on optimizing their performances.He was quick and professional!

I am following his advise and if the the fridge still doesn't work, then I will have them come out.

Our freezer was randomly defrosting which caused water to leak and refreeze. Everything in the freezer had a layer of frost and there were big chunks of ice forming on the bottom of the freezer. I called General Refrigeration and Gary was at my house in about an hour. He quickly assessed the problem and decided to replace the motherboard which he thought would fix the problem. He had the part on his truck and was done replacing it in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, over the next couple of days, the problem returned. I called Gary again and he was back at my house within the hour. He took a look and found that it was an odd problem he couldn't fix. Our freezer (a GE) required service from GE itself. Since the new motherboard he installed didn't fix the problem, Gary gave me a refund. The really amazing part is that he gave me a FULL refund. He not only refunded the price of the part, but also the price of his service fee for even coming out to my house. He said he prided himself on doing good work and doing the right thing and I found that really remarkable. I would not hesitate to use Gary again or recommend his services to others.
