Technician (Gary) arrived when expected, and was very efficient, pleasant, and professional. He seems to have solved the problem (which was that the freezer was barely cold even at the lowest temperature setting).
Description of Work: Pressure tested the coolant. Said it was low. So he installed a valve, added Freon and a leak stopper product.

Gary explained the cause of the problem -- the factory supplied drain is too small and thus clogs easily. He offered two options: a quick fix (unclogging the drain) or replacing the part with a larger drain. The price difference wasn't all that much, so we opted for the permanent fix. He's competent, fast and a genuinely nice person -- can't ask for more than that.
Description of Work: Diagnosed cause of water/ice buildup in freezer - and after our approval, had it repaired in less than 30 minutes.

Gave me some straight forward honest advice over the phone. Unfortunately I have an expensive built in model that he tries to stay away from because they are trouble. Gave me a quick diagnosis and was able to describe the exact problems I noticed just by telling him a couple to things. He have me suggestion of who else works on KitchenAid to call. If I had a model that he serviced I would definitely call him. He seemed very straightforward, honest and generally very helpful.

Called Gary at 9:30am and he was at my door exactly when he said he was. Had the motor installed and everything put back in the freezer in a half hour. ROCK STAR! He gave me advice on how to unplug the water line from my sink to the ice maker.

Gary was professional, knowledgeable and responsive. He came out the same day I called, diagnosed the problem and fixed the problem on the spot. Because he specializes in refrigerators, he carries a lot of spare parts with him and was able to replace the part instead of having to make another trip. His service costs seem extremely reasonable as well. Great service. Update: 2 months later our ice maker wasn't working apparently because of low water pressure. Gary came out again and said we had a partially blocked hose. He fixed it and didn't even charge us for the call. Amazing!

I have a Samsung Refrigerator that all of a sudden the ice maker stopped working. I found Gary's company on Angie's List and gave him a call. Gary answered the phone himself. After a short conversation going over the problem he provided me with enough information where I could check and work on the issue myself. I tried what he suggested and during the process I was able to discover the actual problem. It's fixed temporarily while the part I need to complete the repair is on order. What was great about this experience was Gary. Very professional. He could have come out and fixed the problem himself and made some income. But he knew that there was something I could check first and with a little guidance from him it payed off. (Thanks Gary.) If any of my appliance really fail in the future, I know who I would want to call first.

On 5-9-2014, my GE refrigerator stopped being cold and everything in the freezer side had thawed out. First, I called the GE repair service and accepted their earliest appointment for the next day. However, I wanted my refrigerator fixed on 5-9-2014. So I went to Angie's list and called Gary. I explained my need to him and that I had to leave in 3 hours. He said he come to my home before I had to leave. One hour and 20 minutes later, he was at my home. He said he realized how urgent my situation was and had re-shuffled his appointments to fit me in. I was extremely happy that he responded so quickly. I can't remember ever receiving such outstanding service 80 minutes after calling a tradesman. He did a few quick tests and stated he was 90% certain that my refrigerator needed a very expensive repair. Since we both believed it was still under warranty, Gary said it was best to wait for the GE repairman so that the repair would be free. He said any repair he attempted would void my warranty. He tried to console me since I'd have to wait another 24 hours for my refrigerator to be repaired and all my food in the refrigerator would likely be spoiled by then. Although he didn't fix my refrigerator, his fee of $55 was well worth it to me. If I have any future refrigerator problems, he will be the only one I'll call. Bill West

Gary was the second repairman to work on my problem. I called him because I was not satisfied with the work of the first. When I called Gary the first time, he was driving. He took my phone number to call back later. After not hearing from him, I called again. It turns out that he got the number wrong. He was apologetic. I scheduled an appointment for the next morning. The cost of this service call was $55. Gary arrived on time and started right away. He checked some basic things, such as temperature settings, coil cleanness, compressor. At this point he told me that he needed to check refrigerant pressure and it would cost $20 because he needed to install a valve first. He also explained that low on refrigerant was the likely cause of the problem, and having a valve on the coil makes adding refrigerant possible. I agreed to adding the valve. After adding the valve, Gary measured the pressure and indeed it was low. He explained that there is a leak somewhere but finding it could be very difficult if the leak is very small. His recommendation was to add refrigerant to the normal level and monitor the freezer. If the problem reappears quickly, the leak is probably big enough for him to find. On the other hand, if it does not reappear for a long time, adding refrigerant periodically is probably more cost effective. I agreed, and adding refrigerant cost $180. Throughout the visit Gary was professional. He also kept me informed of his work and clearly explained my options. I would definitely call him again for refrigerator problems.

Last night we found that our ~10 year old refrigerator was not keeping foods cold/frozen. The compressor was hot (should be just warm) and the coils were cool (should be warm). In the morning, bright and early, I called Gary who fit me in to his schedule and showed up within an hour! He arrived and quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad compressor starting unit. Apparently, heat causes these units to quit working after awhile. It took him all of twenty minutes to complete the repair and to have the refrigerator up and running. He also checked for Freon leaks and there were none. Gary was great to work with and very knowledgeable. The repair charge was very reasonable and sure beat having to buy a new refrigerator!

Gary squeezed us in the same day I called for help. He was polite, knowledgeable, and fast, and he didn't even charge me a service call fee (which is pretty minimal at $55 to start with) on top of the charge for replacing the bad part, since the job went so quickly. And he assured me that the appearance of the area under the fridge was pretty normal, despite how horrifying it looked to me, and he was happy to give me a few minutes to sweep/vacuum/wash up what needed attention. Gary rocks, and so does Angie's List!

I had been having problems trying to get a combination of freezer and refrigerator settings that were satisfactory for several months. This had never been an issue in the past. Then the leaking started, regardless of whatever settings I tried,so I had to put a little bowl underneath the leaking spot. After he fixed the leak, he put new settings on the both the refrigerator and the freezer. It seems to be working very well. His basic charge for coming to your house is $55, so the repair only cost an additional $30. We first had Gary here about 2 1/2 years ago when the motor in that same refrigerator died, and I discovered one morning that the ice cream had melted. He put in a new motor. The total cost was $225, including service. He always tells you before starting the repair what the bill will be. On that occasion he even threw in fixing the lower metal panel on our dishwasher that had become loose. I hadn't been able to get at it with a suitable little screwdriver. And of course, that really didn't fall into the category of "refrigerator repair"! He's just an exceptionally pleasant and generous guy!

Gary said he could come by before any of his other appointments for that day. And true to his word he was here before 7:30 AM. He found the problem immediately and gave me a price quote. I said it was fine and to go ahead and fix the problem. The whole process took less than half an hour. Gary was knowledgeable, courteous, and speedy in making the repair. All repair people should be like him!

Our freezer was getting warmer, ice cream was soupy, although ice cubes were holding. I called the afternoon of New Year's Eve, not expecting to get help until Jan 2. Gary was over in an hour, identified problem, had replacement motor on his truck, was done in less than one half hour. Great guy, offered tips on refrig maintenance.

The refrigerator side of my side-by-side Sub Zero fridge/freezer was not getting very cold so called Gary to come check it out. I left a message to call me and had to call a second time to get a response. Gary came out the next day - a Saturday - very prompt. He was nice and polite. He charged $50 for a service call. Looked at the fridge side without taking anything apart - simply turning the temperature dial and listening to see if it kicked on. He then said it was old so probably should be replaced but he would go back and check on a part - possibly a thermostat and call me to let me know. He then left after about 15 minutes total time. I discovered a couple hours that he had actually turned the dial to OFF on my freezer side... NOT the refrigerator side. Fortunately I caught it since the freezer side worked and was full of frozen food. I never received a call back, in spite of a call to his number a couple days later to report the error and see if he had the part. Very disappointed and will not use this company again. Wasted $50.

Gary was able to come by on the day I called! He got right to work figuring out the issue, had all of the parts in his truck, and we were good to go within an hour. He explained to us how the issue came about (we left the light on too much) and also cleared the coils and showed us a few tricks to keep our fridge in good condition. Bravo! Nothing better than a specialist for a specialized problem.

Wow. Our 10-year old refrigerator conked out on Sunday; Monday morning I looked up repair guys on Angies List. Called this fellow (Gary) at 7:30 a.m. - when he heard that the fridge was not working at all he said he'd rearrange his schedule and get out asap. He was here by 9 and the fridge was fixed by 9:25. Plus, he could not have been nicer. He said he specializes in refrigerators so he generally has all the parts with him rather than having to go and order them. He also mentioned that he does not charge extra on weekends, although he is not necessarily easy to reach on Sundays.

We discovered our 10-12 year old refrigerator was not working (ice in freezer melting and fan barely running) at about 7:00 AM. After checking Angie's List, I called Gary at General Refrigeration (because his listing showed him to be close with very high customer ratings and laudatory comments) at 8:40 AM. He said he would try an rearrange his morning's schedule and would try and come by later in the morning. At 11:20 Gary called to say he would arrive shortly and then arrived about 11:40. Gary quickly diagnosed the problem as an electron control module failure and said he could replace the faulty part from his truck's onboard inventory, but that it was possible but very unlikely the compressor was also defective. Gary's diagnosis was correct and by 12:15 the refrigerator was operational, the bill settled ($195 for parts only, no service or labor charges), and Gary was on his way. Our whole experience was friendly, courteous, highly professional, and thoroughly satisfactory. We would recommend General Refrigeration without reservation.

My freezer door wasn't closing all the way, allowing the cold air to leak out and warm air to leak in. I called mid-morning and Gary said the door probably needed an adjustment and that he could probably do it that day. It was important to me to get the repair right away, so that I wouldn't lose all the food in the freezer. Gary fit me in at the end of the day. He called ahead of time to let me know when he would arrive. He diagnosed the problem quickly and was able to fix it. He even helped me clean up the mess that was behind the bottom drawer of the freezer before I reloaded the food into the drawer. His help and courtesy was above and beyond a normal service call. I highly recommend calling Gary if you have a problem with your refrigerator or freezer.

I was thoroughly impressed and unhesitatingly recommend this provider, who worked me into their schedule on short notice, was professional and courteous, did fantastic work quickly & efficiently, and charged me an eminently fair price. It's clear that General Refrigeration not only understands the service business, but that their particular clients are frequently desperate to save a fridge full of food. If you've got refrigerator or freezer that's malfunctioning, call GRS immediately!
