Business Skills: From a business standpoint, Rick is a good communicator and extremely dependable. He arrived on time every day when he worked for us. He confirms start times so you'll know exactly when he'll be there. He has you sign him in and sign him out so there's no confusion over what hours have been worked. Professional Skills: Rick does high quality work - he really cares about how the job is done. And my husband and I liked how he involved us in each project. He was open about his suggestions so we could benefit from his experience and expertise, but he still made sure we knew he was also open to our input so together we could define the end goal of the work up front. On top of his skills, Rick is easy to work with - we will ask for his help on future projects and do not hesitate to recommend him. He's the kind of professional we hope to find by going to Angie's List.
Description of Work: Rick has helped us with various landscaping projects over the summer. One time we needed a retaining wall (we live on a hill) . Another time we needed a lot of dirt removed from an area in preparation for additional work.. Most recently he leveled a small area and placed pavers for us.

He explained the options clearly, had all the necessary tools; we bought the material itself at Home Depot after checking out one other option without success. The results are exactly what was needed.
Description of Work: Rick replaced part of a hardwood floor which had been moisture-damaged,an area about 2 l/2 by 2 foot. He removed the old wood, decided that the moisture barrier had protected structural wood below so that only replacing the surface wood was a good repair. He replaced it with plywood precision cut, sanded, and attached with Liquid Nail and field and finishing nails. We considered other alternatives, but could not find even a near-exact replacement for 1960 era wood.

Everything went very well. Rick is polite and easygoing he let's you know what his approach will be to the work he going to do. He is very careful about getting your approval. Rick is unlike a lot of contractors in the since that he is happy to share his knowledge about how to do or not do the repairs he is doing. His approach is that he could give you a fish and feed you for a day or teach you how to fish for yourself. Even if you never plan on doing the work yourself, knowing what and how the repairs were done is something the homeowner should know. Rick will be my go to handyman.
Description of Work: I scheduled a full day of Rick's time, while he was here he fixed the hinges on my front door, replaced a sink valve, installed a set of track lighting and replaced two can lights. We also went to the hardware store to purchase the wood for stair skirts that will require custom cutting since the treads and risers need to be left in place. Rick also helped me select the baseboards that I will be asking him to replace throughout my residence. I have scheduled future appointments with Rick to have aforementioned work done.

Rick helped patch some drywall and retexture it to match. He helped caulk in the bathroom and changed out parts in the bathroom sinks as well as some electrical work. He did an awesome job. Rick was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He even came back to finish up some things that he wasn't able to complete the previous day due to us needing to leave. I have given his information to several family members and told them about the great work that he did around our house. We would definitely use Rick again.

Rick was punctual as always. The project I had him work on was much more time-consuming and complex than the work he did a few months earlier for me. This time I had a huge crack in my siding that I needed repaired before the rains started! He had given me an estimate but warned that once the siding was removed, there may be dry-rot and other issues. Originally he had estimated $400+. Once he removed the siding there was more damage and I ended up replacing much more siding than I originally projected. In addition I had to purchase other items to prevent future rot as the original construction was done cheaply/incorrectly ! The siding currently on the building is over 20 years old and it is not produced anymore. Rick and I had to drive all the way to Meeks Lumber in Loomis/Rocklin to buy replacement siding that was as close of a match possible! The job took 2 days to finish. In the end it cost $725+ to complete (Rick and materials). In the end he cut up all the old stuff so it could fit my garbage can to be hauled away. It should be noted that Rick is only a one "person" operation. He works hard, diligently and professionally. I have read reviews that were rather, just unfair to him. He juggles his time as well as one person can. Sometimes you just have to "wait" your turn! He is in demand because he does good work. Good work takes time and expertise. I don't pay him to clean up but he does it anyway and does not charge for the time it takes him to do so. Yes, I've had to wait some times for him to get back to me, but he doesn't have office staff or any assistants to take notes for him! He doesn't take calls while he is working (like some contractors do). He often returns home late in the evening and doesn't return calls until the morning. He is human and may once in a while may have "emergencies"! .... don't we all! Often emergencies go awry and we just have to deal with them the best we can.....give the man a break!

I have been working on my house for 12 years..I have done everything from electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and landscaping. But I hit the point where I cannot do anymore. So I decided to hire a do-all small project handyman. He spent more time telling me of his experience of 34 years building homes from scratch than listening to me and deciding on projects together. Who comes to a home when I told him I have lots of projects to do without a pad to take notes. I had to provide a pad of paper. By the 2nd to last day, he had not even started the main projects I wanted to do. He said he didn't paint from the beginning. It took 6 hours to install a ceiling fan, to provide more stability from the ceiling bracket that I installed. Spent 3 hours trying to change out an outlet in the kitchen...I told him to end it and move on and I was not paying for trial and error work. Installed baseboards with no regard that he knew I had people coming to remove popcorn ceilings and remud and paint all ceilings, and the carpet needed to be installed. So now I have to cut away all the older carpet and paint all the baseboards before the carpet is installed. It's a 1200 sq ft home. including all closets, etc. The first project started at the front door. I asked him to measure everything I needed to order 2 new glass doors...He said we would order the doors together. I never received those measurements. He was to install a window sill in the kitchen but gave me no visual of what he was going to do...He was just going to slap on a piece of oak wood, not routered not stained and no clear direction of what he wanted to do..So he avoided that project. I asked for a new door to the laundry room...He thought it was best to get a door with all the outer framing...that meant he was going to pull out the perfectly good door framing I already had...I believe this was just to extend the simple project to something much bigger and longer. So I did not have him install that door or attempt to add the window sill. The last repair was patching a couple of holes. Who works on drywall and puts nothing under it to catch all the stuff. I knew he had a painters canvass in his truck, but he never put anything on the floor of the wall he worked on...he then spent hours spraying texture without covering the floors or carpet. The final straw was when he said he would be back in the morning to knock it down, it was scraping to me. He did not show up in the morning when I knew my neighbor would be there. He showed up 2 minutes before I got home from work. My neighbor at this point was in my home watching him ..he knew I was so done with this handyman. So because I was distracted talking projects with my neighbor, I wasn't watching the handman as closely as I should have...He never covered anything in my house while knocking down this texture. My whole house, floors, furniture, all the contents of closets removed and in the middle of rooms, including my shoes and clothes and new TV and electronics, everything including my f ish tank are covered in a fine white powder....What a mess I have to clean up. He also mixed his wall mud on the porch and got it all over my landscaping, bricks, doors, floors, bath towel, carpet everywhere but never cleaned it up...He did rinse off the porch area but all it did was move to the other side of my pillar...It is everywhere. I also was not comfortable when one day his front zipper was not up and last but not least had to see his butt crack while I am facing the TV to the point I needed to leave my house. I lost a week of hiring a painter, carpet layer and electrician because he said he had all these contacts. He called them but they never got back to him. Then on the last day, he states that he would paint. So I lost another week of project time. I feel he chose to do projects that gave him more hourly time. I do not want him on my property ever again. He did great work but at a cost of labor intensive cleanup for me. Would you want him in a 2-million dollar home leaving the same mess? I think he cares only about the $$ because for 30 years of building, there was always someone else behind him to finish the house, carpet, paint, clean, etc. so he has no idea that he is leaving a big mess. I think he needs an education of what customer service is, not just do a good job on the project. UPDATE: To add to the scathing review I already presented, I wanted you to know what I remembered this man telling me in many of his comments to me. Because he had only 2 reviews, he contacted Angie's List , it seems a salesman for your company said if he paid $286, he would receive an ad in the October 2013 magazine....This is just a marketing gimmick to catch the eye of a prospective customer, as it caught my eye. This add gives the impression that this handyman is far above any other handyman in the area. I find this is false advertising because the one of the only 2 reviews is printed on page 9 of this magazine. If I had done my homework to read the reviews of only 2, I would never have chosen this person. Now I know why he has so many customers now that he has to book them 30 days in advance. He also told me that he was a and quot;5-Star Handymanand quot; . I think the Better Business Bureau should know that it only takes $$ to market anyone, not proving themselves to the Angie's List program and that this does not put Angie's list in a good light. The mess he left me is far more than I explained on the 1st review. Reviews are everything, but as I see it, as long as he continues to receive and quot;newand quot; customers, he will never have to worry about not having any previous customers. I have already spread the word to my co-workers who live in the same area, what a mess he left me.

Rick does good work. I asked him to fill in some imperfections, such as gouges, on my garage wall, and then to paint them. He did good work, and was very conscientious, making the surface as smooth as possible...he might have been a little too conscientious, overworking some of it. He also assembled two raised beds, and leveled them beautifully on a slight slope so that they looked good, very professional. As with anyone who is doing work around your house, it should be made very clear what you expect. He is a very hard worker, and he listens closely to what you want to achieve. I will have him over again when I need his services.

The door project took a bit longer than I expected because of dry time and some difficulty re-installing them. The metal shed deconstruction was also a big project, and he was able, through cutting, bending, and folding, to get most of it in the trash bin for recycling! All the other smaller projects were completed very fast and efficiently. Rick was very friendly and helpful and his attitude is very positive and energetic. He perserved with the difficult reinstallation of the doors until he got them to all close properly. It is so easy to talk with Rick because of his friendliness, that I think it slowed him down a bit, so I tried to not to interrupt him too much while he was working on a project.
Description of Work: Rick removed, painted, and reinstalled (including all the hardware) my 5 bedroom and bathroom doors; deconstructed a metal backyard shed and placed the waste in the trash bin; removed the walk-in shower walls and placed waste in trash bin as a prelim to a DIY tiling job; repaired a sliding door screen; removed the hardware from my 2 bathroom vanities so I could paint them; trimmed wood edging on garage door; moved heavy TV to garage; gave me several pointers on how to save paint and brush for reuse , pointers on repairing a small drywall hole, and pointers on how to prepare my front door for painting. He generously gave me 2 paint can openers and stirrers, and a magazine with info on repairing my pool in the future.

There was a slight delay in his arrival due to traffic, but we already discussed the schedule ahead of time, so it was not an issue. Being a DIYer, I appreciate the time he took to understand what I was doing to create a theme for my daughter's room. His previous experience in construction shows: he took the time to explain how he would re-wire the light fixture and offered to accompany me to the local Home Depot to get the right materials. This alone saved me time and money. Little details matter a lot: upon arriving, first thing Rick showed me were his new working shoes! LoL He didn't know we were a and quot;no shoesand quot; household, with my daughters' health conditions -- that was a definite plus even before he started. He may not be the fastest worker, but I would rather have someone who takes pride in the quality of their work take a bit more time to get it done right from the get go. My search for a long term handyman has ended. Thanks, Angie -- for finding Rick for me.

Rick did an awesome job. He is professional, works hard and does quality job. He suggested a few extra things that just made sense (like fixing the caulking and window trim), but I did not feel and quot;pressuredand quot; to add them to the list. I felt he was honestly trying to do the right thing to get quality results. He worked late to get everything done and still did a good cleanup. I will definitely call him again when I need help with work around the house.
Description of Work: Main job was painting the upper part of two an exterior walls on my house. He also fixed the caulking around a window, fixed teh window trim, painted the window trims and roof fascia. He removed an old dish antenna, sealed several leaking roof vents very well, moved an antenna cable and helped me move heavy metal and concrete debris from the back of my land to my house.

Rick did a great job -- doesn't really take breaks -- works right on through the day -- moves seamlessly from one job to another -- is happy to show you how things are done in case you want to learn -- very easy to talk to. He came back for a second day of work. I will definately work with him again -- will save up my lists of items and bring him out over 6 to 12 months to clear.
Description of Work: Adjusted four doors -- 2 interior and 2 exterior -- so they would hang properly, cleared out mistletoe, hung a tire swing for our kids, cleared out some brush, installed new roof vent screens that the woodpeckers had pecked through, re-glued veneer that had some up on our engineered hard wood floors -- he's a man of many skills. He's very professional and easy to talk to.

Installing a door is difficult. It has to be fine tuned. My husband, who is very handy with all types of projects related to houses and cars, did NOT want to install the door, so we hired Rick. We could have paid twice as much to have someone from Home Depot do the job. Rick is very knowledgeable about how to install doors. He also replaced the trim around the door. The door looks perfectly symmetrical on all sides and the deadbolt is correctly lined up. His work is neat and professional. He also gave us an important tip about replacing siding: use shorter nails than were used when the house was originally constructed and the plumbing had not yet been installed. Long nails could pierce water pipes within the walls, causing a leak. Rick arrived on time. He kept good track of his time. He was neat, he cleaned up after himself. He is likable and easy to get along with, also trustworthy.
Description of Work: Rick installed a new front door and helped remove old siding from the exterior of the house.

He arrived a half hour late, but stayed the full eight hours. He called to give me updates. He took notes on everything that needed work done and wrote a list before we went to Lowe's to acquire everything we needed. I don't feel he wasted time at all. Not only did he fix things, he was kind enough to explain every process that it took to fix it. I learned a lot. I felt empowered when he left. He worked every minute of those eight hours!!!
Description of Work: He wired my ceiling fan and lights, fixed two doors, attempted to fix my leaking kitchen faucet but couldn't. The piece had to be ordered from Kohler. He fixed my broken towel rack, fixed fence panels, fixed my broken dresser drawers and attempted to fix my showerhead. He also changed my lock on my front door.

Excellent Professional Reliable Knowledgable Proficient Efficient Experienced Agreeable See above.
Description of Work: We gave Rick "the honey-do" list which consisted of approximately 15 items. He went through the list, first discussing the details with us so he knew what we wanted and in what order. He did an excellent job of completing all the work! In fact, he was so reliable, professional, & knowledgable we are going to have Rick back for some additional items. We HIGHLY recommend Rick & we know we will be using his services again.
