Eric from Cal Plumbing was recommended by friends. I had three plumbers out to give me an estimate for the work. Eric was in line with the others for cost, but his solution for how to do the work was better. He investigated the site thoroughly, so was able to plan the placement of the tankless, waste lines, vents, etc. so that he did not need to cut into any visible walls in the interior or exterior of the house. The others all planned to cut into walls and ceilings so I would have incurred additional costs to repair those areas. Also, who wants to see a vent or drain if you don't have to? His work ended up costing a few hundred dollars less than quoted. He also installed the stackable washer/dryer with no added cost. The initial quote was for the plumbing only, so it was extremely nice of him to actually stack those heavy appliances and hook them up all at the same time. I'm very pleased with the work.

Eric came out and looked around the house. He asked a few questions and then was extremely helpful and responsive later when I called him multiple times to ask him questions. He recommended we put in a tankless water heater, but recommended we move it to outside the kitchen. He quoted us a very fair price for this service (less than other plumbers) and also quoted us for repiping under the house with copper. However, he did quote us a high price for a tank water heater because the one we had needed some serious upgrades to be brought up to code, however, it was more than another plumber quoted us (although probably more in line with better standards). The only downside is that he is very busy so you have to schedule him a week in advance if you want him to come out. I guess that means he does good work and is popular! If we had decided to go with a tankless we would have used him for sure. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and responsive. But because we were quoted a much lower price from another plumber for the tank water heater we decided to use the other one instead (although, hopefully his work is up to code--Eric said that he wanted to do it "right" because he wanted to maintain a good reputation for his business). I got the feeling he was honest and trustworthy. Also, he is highly recommended on Berkeley parents network. The only other negative was that he didn't provide us with any kind of official written estimate (although we didn't ask him to either). I would definitely call him again if I needed a plumber.

Eric, was very helpful, informative, prompt and professional. We had a leaking tank water heater. Eric was able to come by within an hour of our call, was prompt, assessed the situation and provided us with information about tankless water heaters that helped us with our decision making process. He patiently answered my questions and we ultimately chose to install a tankless water heater which we are happy with.

I was happy with him. I had good luck with him. He was very thorough, and his price was good as well. He took care of the problem very quickly. I recommend him to all. I saw that he has many recommendations on Angie?s as well. He was very efficient. He knew what he was doing and did it all by himself. He was punctual, and I liked the way he worked. I will probably use him again.

This is perfect example of great customer service. We had Cal Plumbing install a water heater a few years ago. This past Saturday we had no hot water & the pilot light wouldn't light. we called PG&E and they couldn't come out until Monday at 1. we waited until Monday & PG&E couldn't help us. We called Cal Plumbing he knew exactly what the problem was & had us call the manufacturer to order the new part (it would be faster since he was currently on the job) We didn't get the part until Wed after 7. He was at our home by 8 and had our hot water back on by 10. He even fixed a couple of small things that we were going to have him come back at a later date to repair. From the last time he did repairs he told us where to order the parts so it would be less expensive.

The experience with them was great. They were really helpful, really professional and very creative about solving some tricky problems that I had. They were very sensitive to the fact that I didn't want to spend much more than what we had agreed upon.

CAL PLUMBING IS ONE MAN SHOP RECENTLY STARTED. THE PROPRIETOR IS AMAZINGLY PROMPT IN RESPONDING. WE CALLED AT 9:30PM AND HAD A CALL BACK BY 10:15PM AND A COMMITMENT TO REPLACE THE WATER HEATER THE NEXT DAY. HE IS A TRUSTWORTHY GUY AND I FEEL LIKE WE GOT A FAIR DEAL DESPITE NOT BEING IN A PLACE TO NEGOTIATE. (NO HOT WATER!)
