Excellent work. They arrived on time, worked promptly, answered all my questions, and cleaned up meticulously. And there was a bonus: after they left, I noticed a slight shaking in one fan. I called, they returned promptly. They diagnosed the problem, a defective blade, waited while I got a replacement from the store, and reinstalled the whole blade system. Now the fan works perfectly. Even though the problem was a factory defect and not their fault, they made no extra charge. As an Angieslist first-time customer, I also got a 10% discount.

Bill was sensitive to our very small budget for this small cabin project and gave us a very good deal....and stuck to it even though it turned out to take more time than he thought. That's the kind of guy that you want on your project. He was fast and efficient and cleaned up after himself. His work passed inspection easily. Late in the project, we had additional framing to do in the 2 loft areas and drove a nail through his wires in two different locations. He never said a thing, and fixed both without additional charge. We left a key for him on one occasion. Apparently hammering from another subcontractor knocked it from its hiding place and Bill had to climb through a very small loft window to do his work. No complaints. Great guy.
Description of Work: Complete rough electrical on a small cabin remodel: 1 bath, 1 laundry room, 1 complete kitchen, 1 living/sleeping area, 2 lofts 2 exterior plugs, 4 outside fixtures, and 100amp electrical box rehab new 10' mast.

They were great. We enjoyed them very much. We will continue to use them in the future and highly recommend them. The only problem we had with them was receiving a bill promptly but we did get it eventually. Other than that, no complaints.

Fine, although I decided to go with another company because of price and responsiveness, I would contact this company for cost estimate purposes in the future.
Description of Work: I asked for a quote for installation of a ceiling fan and outlet, received quote via email two days after inquiry. Gave additional information regarding work to be performed and they responded with a more detailed quote via email the next day.

I WAS SURPRISED BY THIS MEMBERS GRADE. USUALLY IF I RECEIVE AN E-MAIL INQUIRY INSTEAD OF A PHONE CALL I ASSUME 1-2 DAYS IS A GOOD RESPONSE TIME. SINCE I WORK IN THE FIELD EVERYDAY (DOING CEILING FAN INSTALLS AND OTHER ELECTRICAL WORK), MY E-MAIL IS ONLY CHECKED AT THE END OF THE DAY. I PERSONALLY ANSWER MY PHONE AND RETURN MESSAGES, SO THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE.

When I first called Margin Electric my lights hadn't been working for a few days. I left a message and Bill called me back that afternoon. He apologized because he couldn't make it out until the next morning! I was ecstatic because I thought it might be days before someone could come out! He showed up promptly in the morning, asked me to explain my electric problems and then went to work to figure out the problems. He worked in a very timely manner and explained what he found in each instance and how he fixed the problem. I found him very courteous and appreciated the concern he had for keeping my kitchen floor clean after walking outside to check on the outdoor lights. I will definitely use Martin Electric in the future.
Description of Work: My kitchen lights were not coming on with the flick of the switch and I had no idea why. Bill came out and quickly discerned that the dimmer switch was bad. He replaced it with a better dimmer switch. In addition, our outdoor lighting was tripping the GFI in the kitchen, where the switch for the outdoor lighting was located. Again, Bill quickly assessed the outdoor lighting set up and troubleshot the system to figure out water was accumulating in one of the outdoor lights causing it to short out. He tightened the seal in the light and advised me on how to keep water from pooling in the light in the future.

Bill was familiar with chandelier hoists, and did not hesitate to bid the job including the necessary scaffolding to work with the 19' ceiling height. After removing the old chandelier, the hoist was installed over the new location along with a wall mounted control switch, and the ceiling drywall work and paint completed. The new chandelier was then assembled out of the box, and installed on the hoist. Two ceiling fans were installed in separate bedrooms. All of this work occurred either on the scaffolding or in the attic. The work was completed in three days, was professional, neat and cleaned up after. They hung plastic to reduce the amount of dust in the rest of the house. Only issue as some attic insulation which was not set back in place afterwards, but this was minor and easily taken care of.
Description of Work: Bill Martin, his son and helper installed two ceiling fans, moved and replaced a chandelier and medallion (19 ft. ceiling!) including an electric chandelier hoist.

As this was part of a major home remodel project, Bill came to our home with a group of contractors recommended by our design team. From the very first day, he listened carefully to our needs, asked pertinent questions, made some excellent suggestions, and proceeded to put together a complete itemized estimate for the anticipated work. The project became more complicated with the removal of a recessed ceiling and soffit in the kitchen which revealed a messy tangle of wires behind the walls. Bill was able to sort through all of the issues and make sense out of the chaos. The lighting in our home now is not only practical and safe, but beautiful.
Description of Work: Bill completely rewired the electrical system throughout the entire house (built in early 1960's) to accommodate a tankless water heater, new kitchen appliances, recessed lights, under-cabinet lights, pendant lights, ceiling fans, bathroom exhaust fans, vented microwave, dining room chandelier, etc.

It took many calls and a couple of months for the job to get done. At one point he rescheduled the job because he didn't pull the required permit. He was dishonest with me about the reason for having to reschedule the job. He blamed it on the gas and electric company. I later found out from them that he was rescheduling because he forgot to pull permit. This also caused problems with the gas company because they had already scheduled to come out and shut off our power for the day so he could get the job done. He had to cancel with them at last minute. After work was completed and he gave final invoice, I had to remind him about the Angie's List discount that was promised. He was hesitant to give the discount. I would not hire again because of the length of time it took for him to to finally get the job done, the many troubles and hassles he caused along the way, and because of his dishonesty. I would not recommend him to anyone else.

WHEN WE ARRIVED TO INSTALL THE RECEPTACLE THE CUSTOMER DID NOT KNOW WHAT PLUG TYPE WAS REQUIRED ON THE OVEN, SO WE PURCHASED A PLUG AND MATCHING PIGTAIL TO CONNECT TO THE OVEN. I TOLD HIM THE INSTALLER JUST NEEDED TO CONNECT THE PIG TAIL WE PROVIDED TO THE OVEN AND ALL WOULD WORK ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S REQUIREMENTS. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THIS ISSUE WAS RESOLVED.

We had an appointment for 5:00 on Monday. He called around 12:00 and said he could come out earlier, so he did. He charged less than he said he would and fixed the problem.
Description of Work: We had a circuit breaker that was tripping. He came out and put a meter on the wiring on it and found out that there was aluminum wiring in the house as well as copper. The feed to the room that was serviced by that breaker had aluminum wiring that had become loose. He tightened it and it worked fine.

Martin Electrical did not have a live person answering the phone and did not respond to a voice mail message requesting a call back so they could bid on my project at our commercial building. The Better Business Bureau link on their Angie's List page (or their web page, I forget which) states that they are out of business. If so, why is Angie's List wasting my time?

SHE LEFT ONE MESSAGE ON MY VOICE MAIL SYSTEM, ALL CALLS COME DIRECTLY TO ME (BILL MARTIN - OWNER) SO THAT INFORMATION ON PROJECTS AND SCHEDULES CAN BE HANDLED RAPIDLY. MY POLICY IS TO RETURN ALL PHONE CALLS RECEIVED. I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO BID ON THE PROJECT, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS THE TELEPHONE NUMBER LEFT WAS NOT CLEAR (THE MESSAGE CUT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PHONE NUMBER). WE ARE STILL IN BUISNESS AND PLAN ON CONTINUING BUISNESS FOR YEARS TO COME. OUR BBB INFORMATION IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING UPDATED SINCE WE INCORPORATED IN 2007. I HOPE ALL CUSTOMERS WILL GIVE US THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, IF I DON'T RETURN YOUR CALL I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE PHONE NUMBER.

I phoned and e-mailed Martin Electric and was scheduled for Bill to come out for an estimate (repair) within a couple of days. I had 2 problems. One was fixed with just a flick of the breaker. My other problem was one we had for months. Several people had come and looked at it with no positive results. Bill was able to answer any of the questions I had. He is very friendly and professional. I just wish I had called him months ago.

Excellent work! He came out very quickly and gave a professional and timely estimate. I had other electricians give estimates as well, and he was far more professional then any of them, immediately understanding what the issues were and proposing creative and economical solutions. When it came time to do the work, he was, again, professional and reasonable, thinking ahead to try and save us money and doing an excellent job dealing with some of the difficult interpersonal relations involved with our issues. I fully expect that when the time comes to institute the final solution for the garage wiring, he will be just as good to work with.
Description of Work: He diagnosed an inappropriate connection between our garage and our neighbor's garage that was resulting in all electricity from both garages being charged to our bill. He separated the garages and reconnected the neighbors garage to a new circuit. It is a temporary circuit and will be fixed completely (by Bill as well) in the near future when our home owner's association is able to pay for it.

Jason Elliott, an electrician from Martin's Electric arrived at my home at the promised time. He located the source of the power failure that affected a part of my home within a few minutes. I asked him to check on the wiring of a ceiling light. He explained that it was previously wired for a track type of lighting and that the wires needed to be enclosed in a box for safety reasons. He corrected the wiring. Jason was pleasant and courteous and very professional. He cleaned up any mess after his work. I have had four different electricians do work on this home in six years. Jason Elliott from Martin's Electric is definitely tops. If you call Martin's Electric for any work, ask for him.

I called Martin Electric at 8 pm. on a Tuesday night expecting a voice mail but the call was answered by Bill Martin. I explained my problem to him and we set up a appointment for Friday afternoon (this was the only time I could do it that week). Bill arrived on time and went to work immediately checking the breaker box and the sockets, finding a loose wire in one of them. Problem solved. For the fan I was missing the extender rod needed for the vaulted ceiling (somehow I lost it) so Bill agreed to come back on Monday afternoon and finish the job. As before, he arrived on time and went straight to work completing the job within 1 hour. Bill was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend Martin Electric to anyone who needs electrical work.
