Gene's Lock & Key

I was moving back into my home which was previously occupied by tenants. In addition to changing the locks, I also wanted all locks (5 in total) to be compatible with one key only. In addition, I did not even have the key for one of the locks. Gene was prompt and did all the work beautifully and professionally. He completely understood the "look" of the hardware I was going for, too, and that is very important to me. I would definitely use his service again.

Another example of why I use Angie's list. I called Gene to resolve a long standing front door lock problem. We had been putting it off and just dealing with the knob being a pain and today I finally decided to just call a locksmith. Called Gene this afternoon after finding his number on Angie's list and he showed up an hour later. Unfortunately he wasn't able to completely repair the old system with what he had on his truck, but he was able to get it functional again. Gene was upfront with expectations and suggestions going forward, not to mention provide an extremely quick response to our call. I'd assume everyone can't get the same 1 hour wait time, but even without that I'd be leaving a similar review. Thank you, sir.

I recently purchased a house and needed the locks changed and had one door with hardware that needed correction. We discussed on the phone and made an appointment for Gene to meet me at the house and do the work. He was on time, quickly assesed the work as I showed him the door locations, and got to work. He was able to change about six or seven lock cylinders, modify the door harware that neeed correction so as to make the door function more properly, and all in about an hour or less. The work was professional, he was courteous, expediant, and the work was very reasonably priced. I also got four keys and a key fob free by mentioning his Angie's List coupon

Called Gene, the owner, on Friday, June 22. He said he could not make it out that day but we arranged for an appointment on Monday between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Over the weekend we text back and forth several times. He had requested pictures of the lock I wanted to repair, which I provided. He then requested measurements of the lock, which I provided. Some of the times I wasn't home, which I alerted him to and promised to provide info. requested when I arrived home. All of this resulted in many back and forth e-mails between us.Come Monday, he hadn't shown up by 6:25 p.m. so I called him just to confirm he was still coming. He didn't recognize my name and thought I was calling for someone by my name and said I had the wrong number. I explained to him that the name was MY name and that I was calling to confirm that he was still coming for our arranged appointment. He forgot my name, forgot our appointment and only remembered after I told him we had text several times over the weekend. He admitted he "dropped the ball" and forgot about our appointment. He then said he could be there in an hour and would call me when he was within 15 minutes of my home. He then asked me if I had text him my address. I said no and that he had written all my information down the first time I called him. He couldn't find it, or didn't have it available, so I gave it to him again.7:25 came and went and he had not called me yet. I waited a little longer and about 7:45 went outside and saw a guy who didn't seem to live in our neighborhood. I stood outside and watched him to see if he would come to our address. He called out to me and asked me to dial his cell phone because he couldn't find it. He started stating his phone number and I realized it was Gene. I dialed his phone and introduced myself. He looked over locks and stated they needed to be replaced. Per his price book, our lock (and identical lock I thought we'd replace at the same time) cost 75.00 each for a total of 150 in parts. He said his service call (never mentioned here or over the phone) and labor would result in almost $400.00 total (including parts). And that didn't include 16 duplicate keys we needed. Said he would call me the next day with a complete price and breakdown. I told him that would be fine. He never called or text me or tried in any other way to contact me. Today is Thursday - I gave a full 3 days to try to contact...nothing.1. Forgot our appointment! 2. Didn't remember my name! 3. Arrived 20 minutes later than he stated on a second chance.4. Didn't have my information previously given to him.5. Waaay over priced!6. Never contacted me with a final pricing.Very disappointed especially since he received such good reviews here. I will never use his services and, beyond not recommending him to friends, will warn them to be sure NOT to use him!

I liked Gene. I have an older door for which the parts are not readily available. Gene was not at all troubled by this and was able to find the necessary parts and put the latch back together and working better than it has in 20 years. He works by himself, so it can be hard to get in tough with him and you may have to check back to make sure things are progressing. But, overall, I would rate him highly.

I called Gene and he was very helpful, telling me he would check out the situation the next day. He did and after examining the gate and the condition of the gate suggested that a handyman would be better. He recommeded an acquaitance and,after hearing my tale of woe with past handymen not returning the call, assured me that if did not hear back from his acquaitance, he would intervene on my behalf. Although the handyman service was slammed with work, the owner sent someone over the next day and the issue was resolved perfectly. Although I wound up not needing Gene's services as a locksmith at this time, I will definitely call him when I do and recommend him to my friends.

I called him at night and left a message and he got back to me immediately that he would be in the area the next morning, so we scheduled. He was prompt, friendly, and did a good job.

They did a excellent job. They were not only on time but early. He did a very good job and was neat and clean. He was careful not to track anything in my home and he was very courteous. He's a good craftsman.

He did a great job. He called at the appointed time to say he was running a little late and estimated approx. 20. Within 15 min. he arrived. We originally wanted all locks rekeyed to the same key. This was possible for the garage and front doors, but the sliding glass door had a differient lock. He did everything he could to located a lock, calling other companies and offerd to go pick it up but could not locate a lock. He seemed more disappointed than we did. He did a great job and went over and above what was expected.

Gene arrived on time and began work immediately. Since I could not find the keys for 3 of the 12 locks, the doorknobs (locks) had to be replaced. He had one replacement on his truck, and was able to replace it that day. But due to a prior commitment, he couldn't get the other two locks and replace them that day. A time was agreed upon for the next day and he arrived promptly with the needed locks. They were quickly replaced, keys made and tested. Then he had me test the new keys. The whole job couldn't have taken more than an hour-and-a-half and he quickly cleaned up what little mess had been made. I will definitely call Gene to do this type of work again!

Fantastic service! Gene was able to respond same day to fix all my locks. He updated me on his time frame for arrival when the prior job went long and was incredibly professional. Each of the locks was fixed (prior homeowner broke off keys into each of the locks.) He also looked at the working locks to make sure they were in good condition and cleaned them out so they would work more smoothly. I would recommend him to anyone!

Gene was very quick to return my initial call requesting locksmith and doorknob replacement services. We agreed on a date and time for the service call and, as promised, he was there at the exact time that he'd said he'd arrive. He had suggested that I buy the hardware for the job at Home Depot so that I could save some money on the parts, which I did. He installed new doorknobs and deadbolts on the three main doors of the house, and did so extremely quickly and efficiently. He was very personable and polite, and cleaned up the debris from the work (some drilling was involved on one of the doors) very thoroughly. He also made duplicate keys for the doors, which was very helpful. I would definitely seek him out again if I ever need locksmith services in the future.

Gene keyed two.doors and a gate. He answered when I firdt called and gave a price. He agreed to come late eve after work the next day. He called in advance to confirm and was prompt and professional. We gave him a challenging work environment and he handled it with good humor. He is a very nice guy. Will definately use him again.

Our front door handle had broken and we were not able to enter our house without great difficulty and it was also not very secure. Also, we were due to leave town too so this added to our stress. We contacted Gene and he responded quickly. He came out the next day and diagnosed the problem and also checked all our other doors and locks. He was very professional! He even ran to Home Depot to get a new door handle for our front door and did his best to match it to the one we already had. By the time he was finish, we had a new door handle and all the others were oiled and cleaned too. Gene worked very efficiently and did not waste time which was greatly appreciated. We were able to leave town and not have to worry about the front door being compromised. We will definitely used his service again and would highly recommend him to family and friends and to anyone having door or lock issues!

I contacted Gene through email and he responded within minutes. He was very pleasant over the phone and gave me a quote for re-keying my locks. He was able to schedule a re-key on the weekend, which fit perfectly into my schedule. He came on time and performed the work in an efficient manner. He completed the work and was very detailed oriented. I will definitely use his services again and would recommended him to my friends and family.

Gene arrived right on time and worked professionally and quickly. He took time to ensure everything looked good and worked properly. He was very thorough in cleaning and oiling my locks, and cleaning up after he was done. He even re-installed the front door handle after I noticed it was a bit crooked. This involved drilling a new hole and sweeping my hallway for a second time, which he did graciously. Gene really seemed to care about providing good quality service.

My experience with Gene was superb. I phoned him on Friday night after the hours listed expecting to leave a message. I was pleasantly surprised when he answered and even more happy when he said he could come to fix my problem the next day, a Saturday. He called to let me know he would be about 20 minutes late -- considerate! And he was very knowledgeable and friendly. And, always a plus for me, he was nice not only to me but to my dog Lily!. I always appreciate when people are comfortable around her and like her (though I understand that not everyone likes animals, it just makes it easier when they do). And, even better, the price was totally right. I would absolutely use him again and highly recommend him to everyone. He's the best!

He came within the time frame he said he would and was extremely professional, courteous, quick, and very nice. He had my lock completed within 15 minutes and it works like a charm now! Gene showed up within hours of my call to make a new key for the front door and gate. I had lost the only key. He got to it an made me new keys. He was fast professional and great to work with. I will use his services again.

Arrived on time, nice person, no creepy factor, went straight to work and cleaned up nicely once he was done. Total time spent at my residence was about 2.5 hours.
