We are super picky and many of the vendors we talked with got quickly confused. This is the only company that listened more than talking sales. We meant what we asked and they did what they said.
Description of Work: removed windows and doors, sound proof bathroom wall, upgraded electricity, installed new bathroom fan, light, sink and toilet bowl. Be careful when the company's owner "Charles" try to muster over every question by re-stating "...they are bounded...". Being bounded and insured doesn't guarantee quality.

They are professional, friendly, honest and clean. They do good work. They rebuilt a shower, fixed the ceiling and built a new front door stoop. They gave me a bid to put a screen door about 2 weeks ago.

I am the president (and a unit owner) of a small condo fourplex in North Park. Three of the units are townhouses...the fourth unit is up a flight of stairs. They have a large deck in front of their unit, which is also the roof of three storage rooms underneath. The building is nearly 40 years old...termites and water damage took their toll on the deck and the flooring under it. Water was getting into one of the storage rooms. We took out the dry wall and found besides the water damage was old termite damage of the plate that runs horizontally along the top of the storeroom doors...had nearly been eaten through. I had problems even getting anyone to come out for an estimate because it was not just a deck problem, it was also a building structure problem. I finally got three estimates, and went with Handyman on Demand, and I could not be happier. Here is the main reason I chose them - the other contractors that came out wanted to pull out the weight bearing joists that ran under the deck and under the unit into the garage area. I had problems with that, in that these joists showed absolutely no damage from water or termites. I asked friends of mine with construction knowledge what they thought....they felt the same way I did....why fix it if "it ain't broke"? And then Kyle and Tim came out from Handyman, and said they were fine...no need to replace them....plus, if you do that, you are liable to open "a bucket of worms", and that is exactly the way I felt. The initial estimate was around $10,000. This was to replace the broken tile in the affected area with the same saltillo tile, and painting it with epoxy, replacing the plywood, drywall, reinforcing the hand railing, re-painting where necessary, replacing the chewed up horizontal wooden plate at the entrance to the storeroom, etc. Once they started the work, we found we would have to take out all the tile and replace the entire deck and coat it with a fiberglass coating and paint. It only added another $2200.00, and the owner can add tile at some future date if they so desire. After a few days, I noticed that one side of the deck's paint was darker than the other. I sent a picture to Maresa on the internet...she called me two hours later and scheduled Tim to come out the next day and put one more coat of paint on it which did the trick...it looks great! They started on a Monday at 8 in the morning, and finished the following Monday. They cleaned up every day and did a great job. They will be the first ones I call if I need any other work done.
Description of Work: Replace and/or repair deck to condo unit which also served as a roof for three storage rooms.

Overall excellent quality. Richard showed up as expected for every project. Changes in times were communicated through office ahead of time. Did really good work and seemed to not only know what he was doing, but frequently offered 1 or more options for us to consider. Had a couple of minor glitches (from helpers he brought along) which were quickly resolved.
Description of Work: Took care of several areas of dry rot. Removed most of and rebuilt large window casing which saved us the cost of replacing the entire window (much more expensive option). Re-wired sprinkler and light timers to more convenient location.

He looked at the outlet and the breaker panel, said he had to go to his truck to get a screwdriver, and after a prolonged wait, he returned (without any tools) and said he would have to collect $150 upfront and on the spot to take the outlet plate off and look at the wiring--a 'discovery fee'. This had not been mentioned to me on the phone when I made the appointment, even though I was very explicit about what I wanted done. I rejected this proposal and he left. I am so disappointed as an Angie's List member to have wasted time trying to get this simple project finished. I cannot imagine charging such a high fee just to look at what a job entails and this should have been made clear from the initial phone call. Handyman On Demand 'did not build trust or improve my life' as their motto states!
Description of Work: After reading a glowing review in last month's Angie's list, I decided to hire Handyman On Demand to do some electrical work around my house. I was very specific when I made the appointment, detailing everything I wanted to have done. I was patient in waiting almost 2 weeks in order to get a Saturday appointment, even though it meant prolonging the much needed repairs. When the representative from this company showed up, his appearance and attitude was less than professional. He did not appear to know why he was even there and did not even bring in tools. I made the decision then to just have the most urgent repair done, switching one outlet from basic to a grounded outlet like other ones in the house.

MY NAME IS CHARLES M. GILBERT THE PRESIDENT OF HANDYMAN ON DEMAND. I APPRECIATE AND WELCOME THE FEEDBACK. ADDITIONALLY, I WILL BE GIVING YOU A CALL TO DISCUSS THIS PROJECT, HAPPENINGS, AND HEAR FIRST HAND WHAT YOU SHARE ABOVE. PER YOUR COMMUNICATION, WE HAVE GLOWING REVIEWS AND THAT IS WHY YOU CHOSE US. FIRST I WANT TO THANK YOU, AND SHARE, WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN OUR SERVICE, AND CONTINUE TO LOOK AT OUR PERFORMANCE WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO SEE WHERE WE CAN IMPROVE. IF A BALL IS DROPPED, WE LOOK TO PICK-UP AND CORRECT MATTERS IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH ALL PARTIES INVOLVED REGARDING THIS JOB, AND APPEARS THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING IN COMMUNICATION OF PROTOCOL AND PROCEDURES FOR OUR COMPANY. I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY, AND LOOK TO SPEAK TO YOU TO DISCUSS CLEARER WHAT WAS ATTEMPTED TO BE ARTICULATED BY OUR CRAFTSMAN, OUR OFFICE, AND THE UNDERSTANDING YOU RECEIVED. IN RESPECTS TO A DIAGNOSES/DISCOVERY FEE...ELECTRICAL IS A TRADE THAT REQUIRES MUCH EXPERTISE, AND SOMETHING WE FEEL IS SIMPLE; CAN BE SOMETHING MAJOR. THE WONDERFUL THING IS IF THE ITEM IS MINOR WHILE DISCOVERING OPPORTUNITY THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. IT IS STANDARD FOR LICENSED AND BONDED COMPANIES TO HAVE A COST TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM, AND ADDITIONALLY, OUR COMPANY PROVIDES A ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON OUR WORKMANSHIP. THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS SHARED ABOVE, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SPEAKING TO YOU SOON. MANY BLESSINGS...

Poor. The receptionist pressured me to agree to sign a contract the day of the estimate if we liked the estimate, even though we are just now interviewing contractors. They refused to come out any time except 8-8:30 am, which is bad for us since one of us works until 9 am.
Description of Work: I sent an email from the company's website asking for an estimate for remodel of two baths. The company sent me a reply email and called me to set up an appointment. They charge $39.95 for an estimate, which they waive if we sign with them.

WE STRIVE TO BE CLEAR, AND SHARE EXACTLY HOW ARE PROCEDURES WORK TO ENABLE OUR CUSTOMERS TO HAVE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. I WELCOME ALL FEEDBACK. THE COMMUNICATION THAT THERE WAS PRESSURE TO SIGN COULD OF BEEN FROM LOOKING TO GET A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE LOOKING TO HAPPEN WHEN WE ARE OUT. WE HAVE DONE MULTIPLE STUDIES, HAD FOCUS GROUPS, AND ALL HAVE RESOUNDINGLY SPOKE TO THE "INSTANT GRATIFICATION; NEED FULFILLMENT" BEING THE TOP OF THE LIST. SO I APOLOGIZE FOR THE WRONG PERCEPTION BEING RECEIVED FROM MY COORDINATOR. WE DON'T EVER WANT TO PRESSURE CUSTOMERS, NOR WOULD WE WANT TO START ON A JOB THAT A CUSTOMER IS NOT FULLY HAPPY WITH OUR PRESENTATION OR PRICE. MY COORDINATOR QUESTIONS OF CLARITY TO CUSTOMERS IF THEY ARE READY TO START THE JOB THE SAME DAY, IS TO SCHEDULE OR CRAFTSMAN UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE CUSTOMER APPROVES THE QUOTE FIRST, AND TO ALLOCATE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE ENOUGH TIME FOR THEM TO COMPLETE IF ACCEPTED. IF WE KNOW A CUSTOMER IS LOOKING FOR A QUOTE ONLY, WE THEN SCHEDULE THEM FOR A SMALLER WINDOW. AS ARTICULATED, I WELCOME ALL FEEDBACK, AND WILL CONTINUE TO LISTEN HOW MY STAFF SHARES THIS FEEDBACK, AND WILL ADDRESS WHERE NECESSARY SO THE WRONG PERCEPTION IS NOT RECEIVED...PRESSURE SALES. WE ARE IN THE BUSINESS TO HELPING BUILD DREAMS, AND PARTNERING WITH OUR CUSTOMERS. WARM BLESSING.

BALL WAS DROPPED, BUT OUR DEDICATION TO GET JOB DONE WAS ARTICULATED FROM CUSTOMER'S RESPONSE. WE SERVICE MORE THAN 6K CUSTOMERS A YEAR, AND PRIDE OURSELVES IN ENSURING JOB IS RIGHT FIRST TIME, BUT IN THE EVENT IT IS NOT; WE BACK OUR SERVICE WITH A 1 YR CRAFTSMANSHIP GUARANTEE. WE DID NOT WALK AWAY NOR BLINK TWICE TO ENSURE SERVICE WAS COMPLETE TO HER SATISFACTION, AND THAT IS A TRAIT THAT A LOT OF COMPANIES DON'T DISPLAY. I PERSONALLY APOLOGIZED ABOUT WORK, WENT OUT TO THE JOB SITE TO DISCUSS JOB WITH CUSTOMER AND HER SPOUSE, AND WHILE THERE ACKNOWLEDGED THERE APPRECIATION TO A JOB WELL DONE. The house is vacant and I no longer live there, so I left the handyman alone at approximately 2 P.M to do the work. I was told he would be done by 5 P.M or so. I went back later and was very disappointed in the work. You could clearly see all tape marks and all repairs were clearly square and visible. The closet was worse. I called and said I needed it done again or improved upon. The next day they sent out this person again, who simply added more texture and some paint. Now it's over textured, not fully painted (white texture showed through) and it was a disaster. I had to chase down an answer on how this was to be fixed. Charles promised me it would be done right. On Saturday they sent a new person out who explained what was wrong about the first two attempts. Long story short, this person fixed the patch but did a very weird job painting. It's all streaky like it was painted in stripes. I have to paint my whole wall myself now. I paid on Saturday but now just want to be done.
Description of Work: I was selling a remodeled house and prior to closing escrow, I had agreed to add two grounded outlets to the home for the buyer. In the process of adding them, four holes were cut in the drywall for drilling: three in the room and one in a closet. The squares of drywall remained to be patched into the walls after the electrical was done. I called Handyman on Demand through Angie's list and thought I was getting a handyman named Charles. I didn't know that this was a franchise company and Charles is the franchise owner who doesn't do the work. A handyman was sent out (no names used) and he explained to me his construction background and how the work would look great. He went into great detail about how the patching and repairing, mudding, texturizing and painting was done. He had to call in the work over the walkie-talkie and he and I had to wait about fifteen minutes for the company to provide the quote, which is the price I ultimately did pay.

OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS TO OUR CUSTOMER, WRITING A CLEAR CONTRACT, AND PROVIDING EXCELLENT SERVICE. CLEARLY ON OUR CONTRACT IT WAS WRITTEN DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PATCHES, AND HOW OLD THE PAINT WAS ON THE WALL THERE WOULD NOT BE A PERFECT MATCH. WE LOOK TO GO THE EXTRA MILE, AND MADE THREE TRIPS OUT TO CUSTOMER'S HOME TO IMPROVE UPON WORK COMPLETED THAT WAS ARTICULATED WOULD NOT BE A PERFECT MATCH. ADDITIONALLY, THE CUSTOMER STATED ON SATURDAY AFTER WORK WAS COMPLETED THE PATCHES WERE DONE TO SATISFACTION BUT WANTED TO PAINT THE WHOLE WALL. WE OFFERED TO COMPENSATE THE CUSTOMER FOR THE PAINT DUE TO OUR DESIRES TO HAVE OUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY. SHE ACCEPTED, AND A CHECK HAS BEEN CUT FOR CUSTOMER. Gentleman arrived on time, and was very personable. It became quickly obvious that electrical was not his forte. He spent over three hours searching and poking around the outdoor lighting, and in the process unwired a step down transformer for the outdoor heaters, and then proceeded to focus his attention on the low voltage lighting transformers that send power to the yard lights, but not the patio. After three hours, he called it quits, no closer to fixing anything, and leaving the heater igniter constantly firing after miswiring the transformer to the outdoor gas heater. If the company knew that it was going to be an electrical troubleshooting problem, as I told them, they should have sent someone more qualified in electrical to do the job. I'm sure the gentleman that came out is more that capable doing a myriad of other tasks, but he left leaving things worse, and I was out three hours of my life and $150.

We were very pleased with Chris's work. He was right on time, gave us a reasonable estimate, and substantially completed the job in one day. He returned the morning of the second day to fill in the grout and do the cleanup. We have never met a handyman who was so conscientious in cleaning up after the job. Chris dusted and vacuumed and left no trace of the repair. He computer-matched the paint sample on the wall repair so that it is impossible to tell that there was ever a hole in the wall! We asked him to paint over an old patch on another wall (not part of the original estimate) which he did gladly. The final bill was only a few dollars over the original estimate based on materials. Chris applied the 10% Angies List discount to the bill. We would definitely call Handyman on Demand again for our next project.
Description of Work: Our project involved re-attaching tile around our kitchen sink, replacing tile and drywall backing in the master shower, repairing holes in the wall above the stairs and repairing the hole in the "popcorn" ceiling. All of the damage pertaining to the master bath was caused by ARS Plumbing in an attempt to fix a plumbing leak. According to Chris, the Handyman on Demand representative, the damage could have been avoided if the ARS repairman had known what he was doing.

He showed up on time and was very easy to talk to. We first walked around and I showed him what needed to get done. He then calculated the estimate. I felt very comfortable with him in my house so I was able to leave and take care of some errands. The only that kept this from being a perfect experience was that he found out later that he needed a wet saw to be able to cut the tiles properly. This added almost 30% to original estimate for the job. I thought this was a bit high. He did a really nice job on everything he worked on and even gave me some tips for paint touch-ups. I would definitely call these guys again and would even try to get the same person over.
Description of Work: He put back on the drain and put together the plumbing for the shower upstairs. He patched the drywall, painted and matched the texture. He replaced broken tiles and some of them required mortar underneath. He also fixed some outlets which were not working.

HE REPLACED A PLATE IN THE SHOWER. HE DID NOT REPLACE THE PLATE WITH THE RIGHT PIECE SO NOW IT JUST HAS A COUPLE OF SCREW HOLES IN IT THAT DO NOT HAVE ANY SCREWS. I ASKED HIM TO FIX THE SCREEN SLIDER ON MY PATIO DOOR, THE SCREEN DOOR WAS STICKING AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE ROLLER ON THE BOTTOM WAS BROKEN AND THAT WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ROLLER. HE PICKED UP A ROLLER FOR IT, INSTALLED IT, BUT THE ROLLER IS STILL NOT FIXED AND THE SCREEN STILL STICKS. THERE WAS ONE JOB THAT HE WAS ABLE TO DO CORRECTLY, AND THAT WAS FIXING AN OUTLET IN MY HUSBANDS OFFICE. I PAID FOR SOME PARTS FOR A LIGHT OVER THE LAUNDRY ROOM CLOSET. HE LEFT THE PARTS, BUT WASN'T ABLE TO DO THE WORK.
Description of Work: I HAD A LIST OF THINGS THAT I NEEDED DONE. THE ONE THING THAT I NEEDED DONE WAS THE WATER FILTER CHANGED UNDER THE SINK. I HAD TO BUY A WHOLE NEW HOUSING, AND THE HOUSING ENDED UP STILL LEAKING AFTER HE TRIED TO FIX IT. AFTER HE CHANGED THE HOUSING AND LEFT, THE FILTER STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. HE HAD TO COME BACK OUT BECAUSE HE HAD BROKEN THE FILTER WHEN HE PUT THE NEW FILTER IN. THE FILTER WAS DRIPPING AND HE ENDED UP HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME FIXING THE LEAK AND THE WHOLE TIME HE STATED HOW HARD THE JOB WAS. I WAS NOT CONFIDENT IN HIS WORKMANSHIP, AND FELT THAT THIS WAS UNPROFESSIONAL. THE CHARGES THAT I PAID, SHOULD HAVE ONLY BEEN FOR THE FIRST VISIT, BECAUSE HE CAUSED THE PROBLEM THAT MADE HIM HAVE TO COME OUT A SECOND TIME.

We were so impressed by the quality of work that was done. Rodriques was courtesous, professional and a pleasure to have in our house. He was working throughout the day. He was a hard worker and not afraid to work. He paid attention to detail with laying the tiles always asking if the pattern was ok with us. I would use this company again and plan to do so in the future. He did not charge us for anything extra except what he purchased to complete the job. All and all it was a pleasurable experience. We were skeptical about using this company as we figured that the best tile layers would be from a tile company but since we couldn't get one of them to come we went with a handyman. Were we wrong. We couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: Laid ceramic tile in hallway, and fixed irrigation piping.

Rodrigo came out-he was very professional and polite. He started right away and the work was completed in three days. He was very knowledgeable and did a beautiful job! He explained everything at the end of each day and was done before noon on the third day. He paid attention to detail/called me from the store to ask what color porch covering I wanted. Very personable and nice. Cost did end up being higher than estimate but I was told at the beginning because he would not know if some of the wood was rotten until he got up there. As soon as he found the additional wood he let me know the cost.
Description of Work: We had our gate replaced on the fence/also had all of the rotten termite infested wood removed from back porch-and replaced with termite treated wood/had porch cover replaced. Also painted the replaced wood to match the rest of porch.
