California Custom Landscape Company did an outstanding job landscaping our front and back yards a year ago. My husband and I are very detail oriented and have high expectations so we were extremely pleased to discover that California Custom Landscape not only met our expectations, they exceeded them. We were very pleased with Henry?s (the owner) professionalism, pride in workmanship, responsiveness and his close oversight of his crew. The quality of the work was excellent in every regard, especially when compared to two other firms we had dealt with in the past (where was Angie?s List back then?!) One year later, our yards are even more beautiful than when new?and that is with minimal maintenance. All we have to do is blow away a few leaves and occasionally prune a few bushes and trees. The under-mulch drip lines keep all the plants and trees healthy without water run-off, which is good for conservation. Henry always got our input before decisions and as the work progressed. We had very specific requests about types of plants, their color and their placement?fire resistant because we live in a canyon and nothing highly fragrant near the driveway, paths or swimming pool because of my allergies, yet I wanted color. He met us at the nursery, where we compiled a list of possible plants and trees that met our needs. The day the planting began, he brought over lots of plants and the trees from the list with some extras in case we changed our minds when we saw them in place. His crew put the pots of plants and trees on top of the soil so we could get the general impression. Indeed, we did change two items?one when I decided I didn?t like a particular plant by the pool and when Henry saw that a plant was too high for the pool equipment door to pass over. He readily changed these items, and the planting began. We found that Henry was just as detail- and quality- oriented as we are. An interesting example is how his crew meticulously cut the artificial turf to fit around the stepping stones and drains. I would never have had the patience to do it so well. Everything went smoothly and on schedule, and it was finished in time for our pool party for our service organization. Given our experience with prior landscapers, I had expected a number of plants to die over the summer; however, by the end of summer, only two did not thrive. Within a day or two, Henry had his crew replace the plants with new, heartier types, no charge. I should note that the two plants that died were the ones I insisted on even though Henry originally hesitated. I should have listened to him on this! One year later, we are still incredibly impressed with everything Henry and his crew did in our yards. Everything is very healthy and maturing nicely. I am recommending California Custom Landscape to friends and family.

Initially, things on the admin side were rough, so we wrote a bad review and were ready to move on to another company. After the review posted, California Custom called us back and we worked things out. The work they did is outstanding. The yard looks fantastic. My only complaint is that there was damage done to the roots of our tree and it has been in decline for the last two weeks (fingers crossed it can recover).

When we decided to replace our concrete patio and wood patio cover we got several bids and chose California Custom Landscape. We choose them based in price and professionalism. We were not disappointed. Henry's crew did an excellent job. They arrived promptly each day and finished the job in the estimated time. We love our new patio!

This is the way all contractors should treat their customers. Henry did a great job of consulting on what we needed, he was prompt with the quote, he went far above and beyond to pick the right plants and place them so they look great. When his crew was done, they didn?t ask for payment. A few days later, Henry called and said he would be by in about a week to get a list of any issues and pick up the check then. I have never hired a contractor that allows the customer time to inspect everything and live with the job for a while before getting paid. Fantastic job!

I contacted California Custom Landscape for a quote on some landscaping ideas that I had in October. Henry was very professional and listened to my ideas and gave me a quote on each project. I decided to wait until the spring and think more about my ideas and options. I called Henry again in February for another quote. He was more than willing to come out again and give a second quote. Henry was attentive to my ideas but also offered his opinion on the pros and cons of different options. He asked me to meet him at a nursery to view the plants I was considering, and I always felt he really cared about the project. All of the workers were professional and Henry and his team did a great job. My yard looks great.

California Custom Landscape did an outstanding job. They won the bid hands down, fulfilled all their obligations to the letter, were organized, neat, courteous, professional and well supervised. The demolition of the old wall was quick and they kept the work site in our parking lot neat. They encountered an unexpected and stubborn tree root ball during demolition but didn't charge us extra to remove it. The new wall section perfectly matches up against existing walls and the parking lot asphalt against the new wall was neatly repaired. The poured concrete sidewalk is a thing of beauty and craftsmanship. We are very pleased to highly recommend this company.

Henry from California Custom Landscape created a compellingly unique yet relaxing space for our modest home which had many significant landscaping issues. Henry listened to what we wanted to accomplish with our landscaping for both the front and rear yards. He offered several professional design suggestions in order to achieve more than our desired results. He found solutions to landscaping issues that had plagued us for years. He uncovered and resolved problems we didn?t even know existed. He took us to look at trees, shrubbery, and plants which met our design needs and flourished in our area. He did all this while remaining competitively priced. In the front yard, he designed the planters with a very efficient drip system and decorative bark, the drainage system, trees, the grass replacement, and the two concrete accent walls. He also removed four inappropriate trees which were causing damage. In the rear yard, he designed the beautifully shaped planters with a very efficient drip system and decorative bark, the drainage system, the plants, shrubs, and trees (including fruit and citrus), the fountain, the artificial grass, and the cement work. His team worked tirelessly with a minimal mess, always cleaning up at the end of each day. Henry would periodically stop by to verify that his design was being completely and competently executed. He team worked well together, and we were comfortable with them at our home. They obviously took pride in their work. The result was a unique, low-maintenance country-casual space which was both inviting and relaxing, to which both neighbors and family attest. We had rarely sat in the rear yard in previous years. Now we regularly enjoy its beauty and tranquility. We are very pleased to recommend Henry and California Custom Landscape for landscaping needs and dreams.

We were finally ready to completely redo our backyard so we looked up half a dozen contractors to come out and provide us an estimate. California Custom Landscape was actually the very first company we contacted but we were told someone couldn?t come out and give us an estimate for like 2 weeks. We agreed on a date and I went on and contacted the other 5 contractors, all of which came out before California Custom Landscape could. By the time Henry came out we were pretty much bummed with the thought that the remodel wasn?t going to happen. The other 5 companies we spoke with, either didn?t see eye to eye on our vision or kept trying to talk us out on what we wanted to do or quoted us some ridiculous amount. You always hear somethings are worth waiting for, and waiting for California Custom Landscape was well worth the wait. Like we did with the other 5 contractors, all we did was tell Henry a general idea of what we wanted to do, the challenges we have with our backyard, and the additions we wanted to add. Henry busted out his yellow notepad and right there drew up a rough sketch of what he was thinking. Based on the minimal information I gave him, he used his amazing creativity and experience to draw up an awesome design which included great ideas that I didn?t even think of. Unlike the other contractors who would suggest off the wall things which were nowhere near what I was looking for, Henry took the input I gave him and drew a design based on a look a feel he felt I would like and included his creative twist. My wife and I were blown away at his design and couldn?t wait to get started. The icing on the cake was Henry?s quote came in as one of the lowest but he even backed it up by itemizing it so if there was something we felt we could do or didn?t want, he would just take it off the quote. Henry apologized for the delay in coming out but explained they were very busy and couldn?t get started on our project for at least 4 weeks. But as happy was we were with the estimate process we could easily see why they?re so busy and backed up. Working with Henry and California Custom Landscapes was a breeze. Henry kept us in the loop with everything that was going on. Came out once or twice a week to give us an update or run though things with us on next steps or minor tweaks or changes. The project took about 4 weeks and we couldn?t be more satisfied with the end results. We practically live in our backyard and the makeover Henry & California Custom Landscapes did just has us back there even more. Everyone is in love with our backyard and all the thanks are for Henry and his team. If you?re considering them for your project, don?t go anywhere else. They were well worth the wait for us and did an AMAZING job! You?ll regret using anyone other than California Custom Landscapes!

We met with Henry to discuss what we wanted in a patio. We gave him our ideas and asked for his professional opinion. After giving us other options we chose another plan and it has turned out to be the best plan. Henry's crew came in and made quick work of getting rid of the lawn and soil for the foundation of the patio. The always came on time and cleaned up when they left. They were meticulous in setting the pavers and working around some odd parts of the space. It turned out better that I had imagined. Henry always returned my phone calls and was always willing to answer any questions. I would highly recommend this company.

They were just absolutely excellent! They were amazing from day one. We relied on their expertise for innovation and design. Everything they suggested was perfect. We have a long, skinny backyard and they rounded the edges of our walkway on so that our grand kids could ride their scooters around. They helped us make a small yard a very user friendly yard. Inspections were done on time and codes were met. They were there every day for about 2 months for this extensive job. They were professional and prompt. Two of their employees do maintenance for us still to this day.

After contacting Henry I my phone call was returned a few day days later. We made an appointment and he came out to see what it was a wanted to have done. Before he left I was given a price and a few options. I decided to go all in and have the grass removed and everything taken care of by California Custom Landscape. Before they started Henry and I went to a local nursery to see what plants I liked and didn?t like. They removed the grass and brought in additional mulch to amend the soil. It was quite a job and yet they never left a mess. There was one day I wasn?t able to open the garage door, but they had asked if it was all right for a day. And it was only one day. I left in the morning before they cam and arrived home after they had left. I have very long hours. Not once was there a mess to come home to, which was a pleasure. I would hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone wanted work done on their property.

As owner and manager of California Custom Landscape, Henry Gutierrez operates a first class landscape business. Henry likes to partner with the owner to ensure that every aspect of the custom renovation is met with total satisfaction in the design, construction, and finishing stages of the project. I was impressed by all phases sticking to the time lines and Henry being ever present to inspect and clarify any questions or issues that may arise. Cal Custom was not the lowest proposed bid, but for the final cost of scope of work however, I feel the extra care and focus of doing it right the first time and within budget and on schedule was well within what I would call "High Value added to customer expectations." Henry proposed many options based on cost and complexity for our total front and rear yard landscapes. Our total project included a new driveway (tree root damaged), custom designed and sculpted yard steps (lighted), beautifully designed paver walkway, new sculpted porch, stack stone wall, euro style large front courtyard (pavers), entirely new sprinkler system, rear concrete deck for storage unit, customer picked plants, and new grass sod all around. I'm confident we added both tremendous curb appeal and value to our home. My only concern is that my neighbors yard’s pale in comparison as the bar has been raised – to be sure we have had numerous complements and inquires like "who did you have do such an amazing job," at which time I give them Henry's phone number!

A wonderful experience. Henry was great to work with to get everything set up and no body could beat the offer they submitted. California Custom Landscape came in almost $4,000 less then almost everybody else we talked to. All the workers worked hard and was very professional and got the job done perfectly. Recently relocated to California, I relied on Angie's list to find qualified contractors for my backyard project. This is my 3rd move since being an Angie's list member and I have found it to be a god-send getting settled and finding qualified craftspeople. For this backyard project, I interviewed and received bids from 3 companies. Since it was a design-build project I was looking for a company that would make recommendations on the design as well as install the job. Therefore each company had a different concept , but the same elements, so I was able to develop a spreadsheet to evaluate and compare the costs of the project. Although California Custom Landscaping was not the lowest bid, I decided to select them, because, I felt that the owner Henry Guitterrez really listened to me and understood what I was looking for. Not being familiar with California, I was very uncomfortable with taking on such a big project, so it was important for me to work with someone I felt I could trust, and who demonstrated that they were listening to what I was looking for. During the evaluation phase, Henry was very patient with me as I went through the project proposal multiple times and even went in the rain to visit several existing customer locations. After the Project was awarded: Henry helped us with the submittals for the Home owners association, smoothing out the process. Working with Anna Rodriguez was always a pleasure, she manages the office and administration for the company. Company Employees: Henry's employees turned out to be masters at their work, since I work at home, most of the time, I was able to observe the project as it was coming together. From demolition to landscaping, all of the craftsmen were polite and were very skilled at their jobs. They arrived promptly every day during the job progress and cleaned-up prior to leaving each day. The project was properly manned and a foreman was present in each phase of the job. Henry also made frequent visits to the job site to monitor progress and provide me with updates. The backyard is now complete and it has turned out exactly as I had it imagined it. I would highly recommend California Custom Landscaping.

California Custom Landscape did a great job for us. We are extremely happy with the results. Henry was great to work with. As with most efforts, the costs for the project ended up being more than we had hoped for or budgeted, but I think that is more about our lack of knowledge about these kinds of costs than whether the costs were appropriate or not.

California Custom Landsxape Co.did an excellent job. Henry, who coordinated the project, kept his word on everything he said he would do, from starting the job on the day he said he would begin, arrive on time, communicate clearly, and was very professional. The crew was always polite and friendly. We gave Henry a picture of what we wanted the steps to look like and the steps turned out more attractive than the example in the photo! When they began to frame the steps, it was determined that we could not have the dimension requested because the hill was too steep. They could have taken the easiest way to get the job done, but Henry made sure that the crew did not continue until dimensions that were do-able and that we were also happy with were worked out We were also very impressed with the immaculate and complete way they finished the job. They put in new sprinklers where needed and re-landscaped the area around the steps with sod.

I contacted California Custom Landscape and spoke with Anna, she set up an appointment for me to meet with Henry. He was on time, very knowledgeable and we discussed what I would like done. My slope was dead as was part of my lawm. The work took two weeks, the crew was great always on time, worked hard. The pavers were installed and look beautiful, I had picked a custom color of paver and Henry was able to find it without special ordering which would have delayed the project. I would e mail Henry wth any questions or concerns and he would call me the same day, sometimes within and hour. They were very easy to work with, everything went smoothly.

I wanted all the backyard done, with the exception of the planting. My husband and I wanted to do that part ourselves. Henry came by to discuss what I wanted. He listen, told me the pro's and con's of what I wanted but he let me decide, and together we came up with a design. I spend quite a bit of time out of state, and Henry and his crew had to start without me or my husband around, most of the time. I did not worry, all his crew where great, professional, nice, and I have no complaints. He did what I wanted, called if he had questions, and most of all, he went above and beyond the call of duty. He fixed my front yard sprinklers, took out dead grass, and put in sod. He also asked me if I wanted anything else removed from our yard, when they were cleaning up, and I did have him take a few things that the previous owner had left. About a week a later, he came by for a final run through. He told how to care for the St. Augustine, to keep my drains cleared of grass, when to fertilize, etc. A few days passed and he sent a couple of guys out to check on the front sprinklers, they reseeded, and fertilized the side lawn. We had figured out the reason for the lawn looking like it was not getting enough water and we told the guys that we would handle that. My husband and I are most pleased with Henry and California Custom Landscape. We are having him come back in September to discuss our front yard landscaping.

I wish all contractors could be like Ca Custom. Thorough, hardworking, professional and reasonably priced. Henry was one of three landscapers I asked for a quote. He wasn't the least expensive but by far and away the most professional . I knew we would be in good hands with him and I was right. His crew was on time every day. They worked diligently and cheerfully. Very communicative and respectful. The job was completed by the due date. They were extremely thorough, making sure that all our sprinklers and drainage were fully functional (we have a 20 year old home with invasive roots so that was a challenge ). They also installed lighting. All along the way, Henry and his crew told us what they were doing, when they would return and if there were any issues. Henry also knows his plants and gave us a beautiful design, with the color and fragrance we wanted. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

This is actually the third time we have used Henry and his crews, and I'm ashamed we haven't written a review before now! Henry is the best - advises on design, tells you if what your thinking of doing is stupid (although he's a lot more subtle than that), has crews that work hard and do a good job. For this particular project, we had CCL working in conjunction with our pool remodel contractor. Started the project (medium size per Henry, 5 figures for us) in April with an absolute deadline of June 10. No problem, and the place looks fantastic! Because we have used him before, we have a good working relationship relative to minor changes as the project progressed. He's flexible, we're flexible, and it all works out at the end - we came in about 2% over what we had budgeted. Not bad. Henry is honest, his crews are skilled and respectful. Probably should write more, but you get the drift.

Project went well and we are very happy with the final result! Henry and his team were responsive to what we wanted and kept within the final discussed budget. My husband and I felt involved in the project but not at all overly burdened by it. The crew was great too. They checked in with us on important points and cleaned up after themselves each day. We would use again for future projects for sure.

Henry,s crew worked hard. All our hard scape and pavers and new wall construction was handled under Mike, Henry's brother. When something presented a glitch or problem it was always handled. When situations arose requiring input from Henry he would always be there. Henry ultimately saved us money over using the landscape architect. When it came time for demo that is when the real magic began. Utilizing a bobcat Mike transformed our dull yard into quite a construction zone even creating a ramp so he maneuver the bobcat to the top of yard. The walls went up and Mike showed the professionalism of a true craftsman. the project took time but it was worth it. The crews were always punctual, always polite and always professional. Since having completed this project we have had small problems that once called Henry would promptly call back and handle. We have dealt with other contractors but in our experience this company stands out as one of the best. If you are considering a landscape company I recommend you contact California Custom Landscape and Henry. You won't be let down. Adding just one more note we are planning another project and will be using Henry again.
