CALIFORNIA CUSTOM LANDSCAPE

We could not be happier with the way our back yard turned out. Half of our back yard was concrete, slanted so a build-in shed flooded every time it rained. Now there's new concrete, with built-in drains leading all the way out to the street, and the downspouts are tied into the drainage system. It works perfectly. The other half of our back yard was just ugly; huge boulders and piles of rocks were randomly scattered around, and lack of irrigation made it a dustbowl in the summer and weed-infested in the winter. The boulders are gone (without tearing down the yard wall for access, as another landscaper suggested). We now have a smaller but healthy back lawn, a large mulched border with ornamental bushes, and a sizable in-ground garden with stepping stones and drip irrigation. It looks great, and the garden is producing lots of vegetables. The whole experience was hassle-free. Henry had great suggestions when we didn't know quite what we wanted (which was often). The workers did a great job of cleaning up at the end of each day. The attention to detail was great; we added a list of small tasks (pruning, fixing a front-yard valve, etc.) to the project at the last minute, and every single one got done without us having to remind anyone. They even fixed a couple things we hadn't thought to ask about! After the job was finished, Henry told us to take our time and check things out before the final payment. We found a couple small glitches due mainly to miscommunication (e.g., two groups of trees were on the same sprinkler valve because we didn't specify we wanted separate valves). These were immediately fixed to our satisfaction.

The work was accomplished in an amazingly short time?approximately two weeks. The crew was always in touch with Henry, who came by frequently to make sure that all the changes we sought were incorporated into the redesign. When the work was done, we were left with a clean and elegant landscape design that provided a generous 5? wide planter around the perimeter of the yard, a lawn that continues to thrive, a watering system that includes 5 separate circuits and a neat area for our vegetable garden boxes, surrounded by distressed granite. This has been a real improvement for our home, one that we continue to enjoy as we look out at the green lawn, flowers, and trees. To top it all off, the work is guaranteed for a year, with the reassurance that Henry will respond to any concerns we have if anything seems amiss. We can therefore, without a doubt, give our recommendations for the work done by California Custom Landscape, thanks to Henry and Anna, his gracious wife and business partner, for the good work they do!

We have slowly been trying to take back our yard after countless services over 14 years. Anna was extremely polite and knowledgeable while answering all questions relating to the job and Henry arrived to estimate on time as agreed. He listened attentively to what we were trying to accomplish this time and also made several suggestions The price was fantastic for what we were asking them to do. We were so fortunate in getting the work done almost two weeks ahead of anticipated date! They had an opening and we took it right away. The crew was considerate and hard working. A special note that our foreman had no problem with working just as hard as anyone else. In other jobs over the years, I have found far more delegation than participation. I was asked my opinion on progress each day and everything was swept, rinsed and put away at the end of each day. There were unanticipated and most helpful "extras" that were done for us. The extra DG completed a neglected side garden with pathway, the whole side of the house, repair of broken bender boards, repair of sprinklers and they were not satisfied to leave until they saw every sprinkler zone working appropriately. This was by far the best experience with absolutely to issues or problems whatsoever. The work ethic is outstanding, the customer service is top notch and the end result is fantastic.

Henry, Anna and their crew are friendly, prompt, thorough, knowledeable, and professional. The crew was on time, worked diligently, and left the work site tidy each day. They respected our property and space, and were helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our needs during this long project. They added some extras we hadn't thought of, like a new hose spigot on one side of the lawn. They communicated with us and each other so that our questions got answered and work flow adjusted as needed. They followed up on everything they said they would do. In the past year we had several major home projects, including kitchen and bath remodeling, flooring, doors, and painting. Hands down, California Custom Landscaping Co. is the absolute best we have worked with and we have nothing but positive comments for them. We are so glad we found them and would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

We wanted to upgrade the landscaping in our front yard and add a planting bed in the back and replace stone work on front of our house with brick. Henry listened to my ideas for the project and suggested plans that enhanced my ideas. Because we wanted to keep part of the existing landscaping I needed someone that was able to work those aspects into the project. Henry did that effortlessly and to my complete satisfaction. Henry and his crew were always punctual, professional and very easy to work with. He kept me informed on the progress, returned every phone call immediately. The work was completed on time and on budget. He even provided some upgrades to the project at no additional cost! The service after the project was just as good. When I needed one plant replaced, Henry did so promptly and cheerfully. We got a great value for the amount of work on this project. In addition to that, we cannot put a price on the peace of mind that came with working with a true professional like Henry.

I called, left a detailed message with my name, my number, and what I was interested in and never got a call back.

This is the 2nd time I used California Custom Landscaping. This project was a much larger job than the first time I contracted them to do work back in 2006. It was nice to see the level of professionalism had not changed over the years. I was told a project of this size would take about 6 to 8 weeks to complete. At that time, I relayed to Henry that the project needed to be completed by Christmas. I was assured that would not be an issue. Henry told me the project would start October 17th and without fail the crew showed up on that date ready to begin. In one day all the demo was completed and the forms where constructed and ready for the next phase. Needless to say a lot of dirt was stirred up during the project, but at the end of every day the crew would wash down and clean up the mess that was made. The crew was very respectful of my home and never left their trash laying around for me to pick up. There were no unnecessary delays in the project. During the project, Henry would always stop by the house and check on the crew?s progress. Henry would call me with next phase updates so I always knew what to expect. Six weeks later the project was completed, as promised. The project completion date was November 27th. As with any good contractor, Henry asked for a punch list of items that need to be addressed. I had to look hard for things that I was not completely satisfied with. When I called Henry with my very small list, he promptly came over to see them and make arrangements for them to be corrected. While he was checking out the items, he saw a few things he was not satisfied with and also addressed those. Henry's attention to detail shows in every aspect of his work and the work of his crew. The additional work was scheduled and addressed. Henry called me a couple of times since the project was completed to my satisfaction. He was following up to see how the plants were doing and to confirm nothing else has come up that requires his attention. Overall, I?m very satisfied with the work performed. My house doesn?t even look like the same house; what a transformation. Henry is very talented and knowledgeable and is a pleasure to work with.

Henry, Anna, and the crews were very professional. They were always quick to respond, patient, and very helpful. With any project, there are always changes and so it was with mine. These were met with "no problem" and we're immediately included in the work. The crews were always on time, worked all day, and left with tools, equipment, and supplies neatly stored. Henry went out of his way to work with local inspectors, to acquire special plantings, and to get the work completed on schedule. I couldn't be more pleased with the results.

I was very pleased with my dealings with California Custom Landscape Co. Henry Gutierrez is a person who does what he says he will do. His workers were all very nice and did a wonderful job. Each and everyday that they worked, they made sure everything was cleaned up before they left for the day. I highly recommend his company.

They did everything as promised, excellent and comprehensive work. I am very satisfied and numerous sprinkler additions are beyond what I had expected. Wonderful!

I was very excited with Angie's List reviews of CCL and so glad that I had the patience to wait for Henry to become available to provide me with a project estimate! . I had to wait for two weeks for Henry to visit my house, but, the wait was worth it: Two hours after he arrived, he presented a design drawing of the project and a detailed list of the work and materials that were included in his project estimate. But, then came news that his crews would not be able to begin work for nearly a month. Disappointed, but, resigned to this time line, I proceeded with his approach -- and, boy was I delighted: Once started, the project moved from phase-to-phase and crew-to-crew, with only minimal lag time between them. In my opinion, Henry has excellent landscaping knowledge and skills, but, he also has the project management expertise to both schedule and coordinate his crews, sub-contractors, and material acquisitions -- across all his concurrent projects. . The contract was clean, with deliverables, costs, and payment milestones all specific and measurable. The demolition was completed and hauled away in only two days. The mainline was laid and ready for inspections, inspected, and covered in two days. The masonry crew was on the job site every workday for three weeks, and their work is beautiful! The landscaping crew was on the job site every workday for three weeks, installing irrigation, lighting, beautiful mow curbs, sod, shrubs, mulch, and color. . Anna, Henry's partner in life and business, did an excellent job of coordinating my and Henry's schedules for project site meetings and payment schedules. All paperwork was in order in a timely manner: work and material "releases" for each milestone, as well as final inspection sign-offs and final release by CCL. . We are very proud of our home's new look and give thanks to both Angie's List and California Custom Landscape Company for the success of this beautiful landscape project.

We are waiting to get a design finalized before we do anything but we probably are going to use this company to do the work. We also are waiting for the city to decide what it wants to do as far as permits go. The person who came out to give us the estimate was very professional and knowledgeable; he actually came here twice. It usually took them about 24 hours to get back to us on the phone but they were always prompt and normally early for appointments at my house. He is very courteous and wrote up a quote immediately. He knew exactly what needed to be done and was very friendly.

The initial meeting with Henry resulted in a quote and I elected to move forward. After working out a start date that accommodated both of our schedules, work begin with removal of old lawn and plant material and hauling away. The crew was there when promised and worked efficiently throughout the day. As each specific crew came and went, they were on time, worked efficiently, cleaned up and got the job done. It took a little over four weeks to complete due to a few days of weather issues, but was done beautifully.

I learned about California Custom Landscape through Angie's List. I called the office and the owner Henry came out to assess our property and show us his portfolio. We had previously asked two other companies to come out. Henry was experienced and capable. He struck a very nice balance between listening to our needs and offering his advice and expertise. It was a good match. Henry gave us a realistic time frame in terms of the start and finish dates. The project played out very close to the planned schedule. Several decision points were encountered as regards choosing colors for dyed concrete and other, smaller items. Henry provided samples and my wife and I had time to go over them. Thereafter, Henry came back out again to go through the samples in person with us and help make the final decision. Again we appreciated his guidance. A large crew showed up on the demolition day. Our house was quite a mess for about a week, but Henry and his team were very thoughtful in creating temporary access ramps for us and, most importantly, they were mindful about working efficiently during this period in order to get us quickly back to a point where we could easily get in and out of the house. As the concrete went in, Henry and I met almost daily to review progress and make small adjustments (height of walls, length of steps, etc.). As the project proceeded, it was common to see Henry stop by the house to check the work, often after hours and on weekends. Overall the progress was good and the communication was excellent. The quality of the concrete/hardscape was excellent. After that went in, there was some plumbing to do, new gutters and downspouts to install, a new chain link fence to put up, and of course the pergola/patio cover. These items were completed through subcontracts. These subcontracted jobs all went smoothly, though we did have to revise the plumbing slightly. The job was completed on time and on budget. We purchased some new outdoor furniture and now the back patio is wonderful for enjoying dinner with friends and family on warm SoCal evenings. We have received many compliments from friends and neighbors about the work that was done. Overall our home is more functional and more beautiful. Even after the job was done and the full bill paid, Henry's team stopped by to touch up some tiny areas of concrete that had become slightly chipped. I would recommend this company and would gladly work with them again the future. Henry is reliable, honorable, and definitely an expert. If you work with him I suggest that you trust his judgement, since he is often right about design elements and colors.

I had previously worked with Henry on a small update for my front yard a couple of years ago. I was very pleased with the outcome and cost so this is why I called CCL again for my backyard. My backyard was a complete demo (except for the existing pool) and a lot more expensive than the small update to my front yard. I could not be more pleased with my backyard. The design exceeded my expectations as well as the quality of work completed by CCL. I have received many compliments from my family and friends and would without a doubt recommend California Custom Landscape.

Not very well over all

I got my original estimate from Henry, the owner of the company. Once I signed a contract on 6/25/2012 the project did not complete until 8/18/2012. The major issue with the time delay was trying to get the plans approved through Diamond Bar. Once the plans were approved, the time to complete the above work was done in a few weeks just as Henry quoted me. If you live in Diamond Bar, be aware there may be delays. As for California Custom Landscape, I would definitely use them again. I felt comfortable working with each crew that completed a specific piece of the project and with Henry who kept me informed of what would be completed every few days.

California Custom Landscape never responded to my solicitation.

Henry's workers were prompt, friendly, respectful, worked hard, and cleaned up every day.Henry did a final walk through with me and showed me how my new irrigation controller worked. He said to call if I had any problems with the plants or the irrigation. My plants are growing and I am looking forward to spring, when the plants will just explode with color! I've received several compliments on my landscaping, and since my yard is the only one in the neighborhood to be completely grass-free, I hope others will be inspired.

I thought that they were excellent and very responsive. They knew their business and worked around our schedule. They came in worked quickly and efficiently. They were very polite and professional.

California Custom Landscape was awesome. Henry was very patient, flexible and creative in helping us overcome some design challenges. We were also pleased with the referrals he made for other services to help us work within our budget. We will definitely use them again for future projects.

The work turned out to be very good. They were very reliable. They were here when they said they were going to be here. They came back to check everything was okay.

Overall the job done by California Custom Landscape Co turned out pretty good. There was a small issue about a leak but they came out and fixed it.
