Their service was good. They cleaned out the clog once and then it came back up. They came back out and fixed at no charge.

They charged us $245.00 to come out. I later learned that Michelangelo’s charges $90.00-$140.00 to do the same job. When I called Roto-Rooter back to price match, they refunded a little off of our credit card and became very hostile. They couldn’t believe that we even called for a second opinion. The appraisal for the work that they were going to scam us on was $1750.00. We ended up not even needing this outlandish problem solved. We know enough to say that, if our mainline is collapsed, the rest of the plumbing would be not working properly. All of our plumbing worked except for the leaky sink. A person would know by experience and I knew that this wasn’t right. Roto rooter came back out to snake the drain and this was the last time I will ever use their services.
Description of Work: They came out to fix a leaky drain and ultimately try to sell us on an unnecessary excavation project.

VERY QUICK response on a Saturday -- said they'd be out within 2 hours, and would call when leaving. Received call about 30 min. later that they would arrive in about 30 min. 2 guys arrived, followed by a guy with the camera. Showed me pics of lines, but the 3rd guy took down the camera while lines were being cleared. I said I thought they would want to view the after pics, and that I certainly did. He said the other guys had a camera too. I thought he had to leave, but they all left at same time. That was a little weird, but they seemed to have all the right equipment, and they certainly responded quickly. I would have happier paying the price IF they had show me they actually cleaned the lines!!!!

I had a toilet that I could not get unclogged. Not having a plumber on hand, I googled local companies (before I joined Angie's list). Roto Rooter was the top company on the search, and I thought they were an established company. The customer service was great. They scheduled an appointment the next day, and called in advance as the technician was on his way. The technician arrived on time. That was all that was good about them. The technician quotes a price of $250 dollars to unclog the toilet, which he came up with on the spot, clearly padding on the price when he sized me up. In disbelief I confirmed this price with him. Since he was there and the toilet was clogged, I decided to just get it fixed. I asked him if he wanted me to put newspapers or anything down around the toilet to prevent any mess. He said its not needed. So I let him unclog the toilet. Less than 10 minutes later he's done. I printed out a coupon from the website, and clearly he's annoyed by that since he couldn't rip me off anymore. He "calls his manager" and then says that the coupon doesn't apply to the service he provided. After he left, a closer inspection of the area where he worked, there was debris and splatter all over the place which I had to clean up and he left a minor scratch in the toilet. Roto-Rooter may have ripped me off once, but that is not how you get repeat business.

I had a two hour window for my appt. I received a call from Roto Rooter an hour into my "window" and they informed me that the plumber was running late. (I liked that - I was happy that they kept me informed. So I had a good feeling about it.) Almost 2 1/2 hours later, I still hadn't received a call from the plumber. (I was told, by the person who called me earlier, that he would call me). So I ended up cancelling the appt.

Best of the plummers. Didn't even have to come into the house. Cleared the line quickly, and went above and beyond the other two guys. Other two charged $60 and $75. This one charged more, but got to the bottom of the problem with his camara. They were in and out in 10 minutes and gone in less than a half hour. Very nice and professional, and wrote up the estimate for the bigger job with two options. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: This was our third bathroom backup in a year and a half. The last two plummers each snaked and pulled out roots and hair. This guy did that, and cleared the pipe. Then he put a camara down there (no extra cost), and found that the sewer pipe between the house and the street was broken in two places. He gave us two quotes - one to fix each individually and one to dig up the whole pipe and replace it. They were about 15 minutes later than their 2 hour time frame, but they did call twice - once to say they would be late, and again to say they were on their way from their last job. Very nice, professional, and they got to the bottom of the problem.

They were guaranteeing a drain cleanup for $99 and then they come out and their conditions are impossible. Nobody has the cleanup capabilities from the outside of the house to meet their demand - so they hit you with another bill. Sometimes people can be taken because they say well I have to get the toilet unclogged and they charge you $250-$300. So, it's a bait and switch scam. The companies that offer those ~$99 for a drain cleanup all have a gotcha and it's a lie. It seems that all of the big plumbing companies are doing this. They made an excuse that they had to go under the house and do this extra work. I hired a local plumber instead that didn't try and bait and switch me. I would advice you to watch your wallet - it's a scam. They will never do a cleanup of the drain for $99 or whatever their bait and switch price is.

Roto Rooter was called out to fix a leaky kitchen faucet. (My 82 yr old Mom was home for the service call; I was at work. I think they took advantage of her.) The estimate was for $200. It took 3 trips to the house to fix it. The replacement parts they use are cheaper than what we had originally and did not fit right. During the fix, the plumber took the faucet apart, and then went outside and turned the water back on. The water shot up to the ceiling and my Mom had to run and tell him to turn it off!!! She used 7 bath towels to mop up the water! Rather than say he was sorry for the mistake, he said he meant to do that to flush out the line!! Amazing. When the faucet was "fixed" my Mom asked them to check the toilet as it was not flushing as smoothly. It only needed the filter cleaned, but instead they replaced all the parts they could. We had this done by a professional plumber about 6 months earlier and they did not need replacing! We had used higher-end parts, and now they replaced them with cheaper parts. We had a low-noise toilet fixture previously, now we had a cheap noisy one. He even replaced the hose from the wall to the toilet and the handle. Those were NEW. I still had the packaging. They kept the parts they took off, of course. The following day, the sink faucet started leaking AGAIN!! We called for someone to come out and they sent a second guy. He fixed it and then said we had too much water pressure to the house. He went out side and fiddled around to test the pressure and quoted us $1500 to fix that. We said thank you, but no. The next day, I went to take a shower before work and I had horrible water pressure to the shower!! I turned the faucets on high and the pressure was just limp! I had to pass on the shower and instead called them back again to FIX IT! They sent someone out while I was at work. My Mom called me to say he wanted to replace the shower head and the pipe running to the wall. I told them GAWD NO!! There was nothing wrong with it before they were there. I told him to clean the shower head of any dirt they knocked into the lines and LEAVE. He did as I asked and left. The shower pressure was fine when I came home. What I have learned: They overcharge!! They use the cheapest replacement parts - things you would not buy yourself. They make un-needed repairs. They are terrible as "plumbers". You need to hire an independent plumber who is licensed and trained. When possible, buy your own parts if you want good quality replacement parts. Roto-Rooter's people are what they call "snake people" meaning their forte is to snake your drains, not to plumbing. I hope this helps someone.
Description of Work: Roto Rooter was called out to fix a leaky kitchen faucet. They also were to look at a toilet that was working but the flush was not as smooth as usual. The only good thing I can say is that after three visits, our faucet is not leaking and the toilet is louder, but works. The company gives the guys cheap parts to carry on their truck. I don't blame the plumbers for the that; they are working with what the company gives them. That is the company's fault. Overall - I would never use them again.

I really wasn't too pleased with the work done by Roto Rooter Company. I really felt that they jacked up the price once I hired them. They took awfully long time to finish the work. They didn't seem to have the right tools either. I would probably not consider using them in the future.

Our shower, sinks, and toilets started making bubbling sounds. We called and they came out quickly to see what the problem was. A clog was found, which turned out to be a root in our main sewer line. They charged 3000 dollars for a single-spot fix--only took out one small section of pipe. The hole they had to dig was pretty deep, and they did stay until the job was done, but 3-grand did seem a bit expensive. I would have expected the entire pipe to have been replaced for the price we paid (which is about what several friends told us they paid for entire pipe being replaced).
Description of Work: Felt we were pretty overcharged for what they did. But they got the job done same day and were thorough about checking for more issues.

They are a really interesting company. They have the advantage. I had to put a clean out in my line. But the hard sell and allthe different stuff is heavy handed. Then the first time it rained I had a sink hole because they didn't pack the dirt. When I called the secretary over the phone gave me a smart comment. I called Ricky, the man who installed the clean out line, and he took care of me and made it right. I expected them to make it right because they guaranteed their work. They did not do the most ace job. I felt like they knew they had me. It more or less worked out but took a lot of careful watch by me. At least I did not get screwed. I paid a lot of money and had to follow up with someone's boss. You have to stay on top of them. I felt it was too much money but it had to be done.

I just moved into my new house a few weeks ago and low and behold, I already had to call a plummber. I called the local Roto Rooter and first wanted to know if this is considered an "emergency" since this was Saturday. (Will I have to pay emergency rates?) I was told that Saturday was a normal workday for them. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and very courteous. He assured me that they could have a representative out within a few hours. After about an hour and a half, the representative showed up. Very clean cut, professional and helpful. He answered all my questions and didn't mind showing me what he was doing. He gave me an estimate before getting started but at that point, I was beyond an estimate, I just needed someone to unclog the sink. Turns out, there was a baby spoon wrapped in hair stuck in the drain. (How did the previous owner got so much hair stuck in the kitchen drain? Another story I guess...) The work took approx. one half hour. I thought $162.50 was a bit much for that amount of time thus my low rating on price but I would use this company again. They were prompt, professional and got the work done quickly.

They were excellent. They performed a clean-out of the main line before putting in the sleeve. They had come out a couple of times. Everything they did was just super. They were really nice. They agreed on a price and stuck to it. There was nothing extra to be paid. They came a little earlier than they said they would and were here as long as they said they’d be. They worked hard and were very clean. They put the grass back on top after the work and made it look like nothing had ever happened.

Description of Work: I wanted a precautionary inspection/estimate to check out under my 1400 sq ft house to make sure pipes were all in good shape, because pipes under neighbors homes were beginning to have problems. They wanted 300.00 to crawl under the house... said it was a 3 man job. Ridiculous!!! I got three other estimates (one man job) that ranged from 0 - 48.00. I'll never call Roto Rooter again!

The technician, Abrahim, came on a Sunday. He was a well dressed, "smell good" plumber. A different plumber attempted to clear the drain two days previously and could not and was to return to open the wall behind the vanity for access. This would have involved cutting the rear of the vanity and the adjacent plaster wall as well as a subsequent repair. Abrahim came, was very professional and claimed that he could and would clear the blockage. He worked diligently and patiently going up to the roof to try the vent after many unsuccessful attempts through the sink drains. The hand held snake was too short to reach the clog via the roof. After a few more attempts through the sink drains he was able to clear the central obstruction obstruction. He cleaned up all of the black gunk that splattered in the vanity and cleaned the two sinks. I was favorably impressed.

The gentlemen they sent was very polite, nice guy, not pushy at all. When I told him his price was too high, he said, "ok", smiled and looked at me as if to say "so would you like me to proceed, or pack up and leave?" He didn't try and haggle or explain, he knew it cost what it cost and there was nothing he could do about it. He cleaned up after himself really well and was very professional and polite. I was so disappointed because I was vastly overcharged for a drain unclogging, I would never use them again for this service. If I had a major plumbing problem , I might use them, because they are professional, polite, and know what they are doing.
Description of Work: I had them come out because I had read reviews that they will do easy work for cheap. The drain was plugged it was an easy fix I could have done it with a coat hanger. The man arrived, set up everything, and then informed me that it would be 160 dollars. I was astonished. To unclog a drain? I asked if he could work on the price a little, he said no. He was even going to charge me more to reinstall the garbage disposal. He unclogged the drain and put it all back together and HE MADE sure to clean up his mess spotless.

I'd had two other bids that were considerably higher (one would have replaced the line, one was incompetent and couldn't figure out the simpler means of doing the job). I called Roto-Rooter just to clear a sewer blockage, which had caused a minor flood of sewage in the basement. They offered to do an estimate for the relining. They came back right away for the estimate, showed the simplest, least invasive method of doing the job, started work the next day and finished it in under their estimated time of 3 days. They were very professional and enjoyable to work with. They also did a few other minor plumbing things around the house for just a small extra fee (cleaned some drains, replaced some hose bibs, replaced some water filters).
