We were able to do a roof-over which not only saved a bit of money, but was perfect for my home. Materials were delivered one day and job was almost complete the next. The third day was for the finishing touches. The final cleanup was complete by the fourth day and job was done quickly, efficiently and professionally.

Jay was on time and he and his crew did a great job. Jay always keep his word.

I contracted with Jeff (Ratchford) to repair three cracked timber struts in my attic - two were completely broken and provided no support to the roof. He arrived on time, with an assistant, and reinforced the struts by sistering them up with new timbers. At my request he also installed a zinc strip along the outside ridgeline of the tiled roof. From what I have read, this is supposed to control moss growth on the shady side of the roof - the zinc ions wash down the roof when it rains and suppress moss growth. We shall see if it works! He also refastened a slipped tile. Overall the job took about 2-1/2 hrs. Jeff was very professional and helpful. He even lowered his quoted price because he felt that the job turned out to be less complicated than expected. I'll be happy to ask for his help again.

Overall this roofer was very professional and I would definitely consider them in the future.

Jeff and his crew were very good about everything. He answered calls, gave a free written estimate which stated exactly what he would do, showed up on time and did all the work in a timely manner. Sections of the garage eaves had to be replaced and others had to be repaired and treated for dry rot. We provided the paint and they painted all the wood and cleaned up afterwords. They broke for lunch to allow the caulking to dry and showed up about an hour later to paint. He explained the probable reason for the dry rot and how to prevent it in the future. This is a family business that I would use again if needed, very good quality work.

He was very punctual and willing to go out of his way because he didn't find where the roof was leaking. He said the next time it rains, to call him right away and he will come out. He has just been really good to follow-up on everything. J Ratch is very professional. He comes on time and answers right away. I think he can do a variety of things so he is one that I would go.

I shopped for a roofer on Angie's list and selected five and asked for estimates One phoned, from L.A. area and was not interested. One sent a vague estimate via email... Three were considered. After meeting with them an studying their estimates and comments, I selected J. Ratch Construction, because : - I found him reliable - he answered phone calls promptly and was punctual at all times - he delivered a precise estimate with a time frame for completion - his price was very competitive - he was courteous and listened to my questions and requests and proposed affordable solutions - he, overall conveyed a feeling of honesty and responsibility - his warranty on the work and on the material were excellent I created a comparative table and submitted it to a family contractor from San Francisco who agreed with my choice I highly recommend him and will call for his services, such as painting my house in the spring.

During the first of the three-wave heavy rainstorms that hit Sacramento in late November/early December 2012, I discovered a leak in the house. I called 5 roofing companies from Angie's List. Must have been a busy time for them because I got their answering machines and left messages. None called me back that day or even a week later. The only one that called me back immediately was J. RatchConstruction and he was able to come out the next day before the second storm wave. He found the problem, patched the roof, and even did a little extra by checking areas that weren't part of the original leak. He checked flashing, secured stuff that looked a little loose, and applied sealant to those parts. All while humming while working! He was done by 2:00 pm and the rainstorm hit hard at 2:30. Whew! Dodged that bullet. P.S. One of the other roofers finally called back about a week and a half later. Never heard from the others at all.

The roof and gutters were approximately 20 years old and the gutters needed to be replaced. The roof needed repair due to dryrot. We obtained estimates from J Ratch and Gutter Dr. The house is approximately 3200 square feet, single story. The job was completed yesterday and all work was completed in two days. The two contractors work very well together and coordinate their crews to complete their work timely and efficiently. The tiles on the edge of the roof were removed to repair the dryrot and replace the felt. The facia was painted before the new gutters were replaced by Gutter Dr. Both contractors did a wonderful job. The house looks and feels so much better. They cleaned up all the old materials and debris. Someone even cleaned our covered patios and they look better too. We have asked Jeff to return to do additional repairs.

He repaired roof leak. We asked about fascia, he inspected and found rotten wood. We asked about repairing gutters and he recommended gutter drs. They worked together to replace rotten wood and installed seamless gutters.

Jeff was prompt, his price was very reasonable, he explained what he was doing at each step and the quality and value were outstanding.

We've used Jeff in the past thru a friend of ours and called him to do our roof - Jeff was great - gave us an estimate and was able to schedule us before the rainy season. His crew had to remove all shingles, dealt with some dry rot issues that he found

After meeting Jeff for a roofing job, I felt comfortable working a significant bathroom repair over the phone (house in Sacramento, I live in Portland). I wasn't disappointed. Jeff gave me a verbal estimate based on the expected work. When he opened up the floor the job appeared much worse. New estimate was significantly more, but was then revised down when he was able to avoid having to remove the tub. Jeff kept me informed and had photos to e-mail, so I could understand the problem. The final cost was reasonable and Jeff had gone to extra trouble to save substantial amounts on some of the materials. The tenants are delighted and so am I. I can't say enough to recommend Jeff for any job. His work is outstanding, price is fair, and he'd a pleasure to deal with.

We needed new gutters, but ran into problems when we went to have gutters installed we found that the prior roof installation had left an overhang that made adding the gutters impossible without adding fascia board. Our gutter installer called in this contractor who helped us solve the problem and worked in cooperation with the gutter installer to make sure everything happened on schedule. Jeff was knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure the work got completed.

He came when he said he would. He explained everything that needed done, what they would do, and what would be necessary to replace it. He gave me a quote for the job, and costs to have additional work done so the roof would not leak. He was very thorough, went over everything with us, and showed us why it was leaking.

Jeff had satisfactorily done some roof repair for me over the last two years so I was interested in him possibly doing my roof Of the three A+ rated firms I contacted, J Ratch gave (slightly) the lowest estimate and delivered a good roof. Jeff was responsive to a series of questions about his estimate and services to be performed; candidly answering my naive questions. He was on-time and clean up was good. I've already talked to him about more minor tasks to be done in the future.

Jeff was prompt and courteous for the estimate and was on time despite this being the busy season for roofers. His knowledge and friendliness won us over despite not being the lowest estimate. The job took 4 days due to permitting required in Placer County. Jeff explained each step in the process in detail so there were no uncomfortable surprises. The tear off was done quickly and clean up was good. The roofing crew came about 7am each morning. They were friendly and seemed to enjoy the job. After the roof was finished we had a couple of follow up issues which were promptly addressed. Even though he was extremely busy, Jeff responded to each and every phone call, e-mail and even text message within hours. As with some of the other reviewers, when he saw a minor problem with a non roofing item on the house, he would just fix it! I would absolutely recommend Jeff for any roofing job.

Working with J. Ratch Construction was a pleasure. The cost for the job was very reasonable compared to the other 3 estimates I received. Jeff and crew did an excellent job on the roof replacement and with giving advice where needed and patiently addressed my questions and concerns. He was also able to make the necessary adjustments and assist with referral to the Gutter Drs company when I made the decision to go ahead and put on new gutters after the new roof installation was just about completed. That after the fact decision was a lesson learned on my part. Also, Jeff and crew cleaned up very well after completion. I can highly recommend J. Ratch Construction and would use their services again in the future.

It was a few weeks before Jeff could get me on his schedule, but I was not in a hurry, so that was fine. He had a helper for the first day to help with getting the old vanity out and the new one in as well as help work on items on my list. Jeff had to make multiple trips to Home Depot, some with me along, in order to get everything we needed, returned damaged or defective, items, etc. He worked through the list efficiently in just a few days. He cleaned up after his work. I was very satisfied with his work.

Mr. Ratch answered my phone request promptly and we set up a meeting. He arrived right on time and we discussed my concerns. I did have one leak in the family room that had been bothering me for some time and I had tried to fix it by replacing a second story window. However, this did not fix the problem, so I needed a roof inspection. After we discussed my desires and problems, Mr. Ratch said he would take a quick look, without charge. After his brief look, he found that there were a few broke and loose tiles. He also recommended that the tree limbs that overhung the garage should be removed and some other suggestions. Also, after the cursory look, he said he found no leaks. We discussed the leak in my family room and he suggested sealing any cracks in the stucco. He also said the estimate would include air blowing the roof, cleaning the gutters, removal and disposal of the tree limbs and replacement/sealing of any broken or loose tiles. Since my house was 19 years old he said it would be hard to find an exact replacement for the broken tile(s). I mulled over the estimate he gave me for a few days and decided to go ahead with everything on the estimate. I was planning on doing the gutters and tree limbs, but decided to use J Ratch because of the inconvenience of doing it myself and the low estimate. I called and told him to go ahead and he said he would begin looking for the tile(s). We set up an date and time and he was right on time. However, he could not find replacement tile(s). He said he would seal the tiles, using a 40 year sealer, and assured me I would have no problems. All work was performed in an excellent manner. The blowing of the roof tiles, removal of the tree limbs, and the cleaning of the gutters produced a large amount of debris and dust that completely encirculated the house. He and his helper removed and cleaned everything and made it spotless. Before he removed the tree limbs, I asked if he would remove one large limb that was not in the estimate. I wanted it removed because it hung over my son's car and my son was worried. Mr. Ratch said he would take care of it at no additional cost. I was very happy with the job and do not hesitate to recommend J Ratch Construction.

After Jeff completed the repairs we went out to the area and he went over all of the work that he had done to be sure I understood what he had done and to also show me that I should have no further concerns with that area of my fence. I am very pleased with Jeff and his work and have already asked Jeff if he would be interested in making some other much needed repairs on my home.Can't go wrong when hiring Jeff as he is very honest, hardworking and dependable.I will recommend J Ratch Construction to any of my friends who are in need of home repairs or improvements!! My rental property developed a leak from the roof and Jeff responded to my call to take a quick look the very same day. After a careful inspection, he provided me with an estimate for the repairs. Upon starting on the job, Jeff realized that the work required to fix the leak would actually be less than he initially anticipated, and adjusted the estimate to less than half of the original estimate. After the repairs were complete, my tenants reported the leaks have stopped. This entire process couldn't have gone any smoother.
