Jeffrey put in so much time running back and forth (original appt: Fri 10/4, picked up crashed PC Sat 10/5, brought back Sun 10/6, and still slow -hard drive was worn out. We discussed what I needed and the cost of him building a new one so he contacted me the next day 10/7 with the prices $460 parts, $397 install (all later itemized on his invoice). He left messages on my phone during the week to let me know when the parts came, he built the PC on Sat & Sun 10/12, 13 and brought the PC to me Sunday evening, when he did the rest of the set up (email etc.). Jeffrey is tops in every way. Always cheerful and up-beat saying , "no worries" (even when things weren't going so well), always punctual -- phoning me with ETA if he was running a few minutes late, always in shirt and tie, and his Sunday casual is dressed up by today's standards. It was unfortunate that some diagnostic work & cost was wasted on my old PC but that is no different than what I have experienced over the years with car expenses etc. The good that came out of this is that I now have a new, great running PC (fast, like a Ferrari- just like Jeffrey said it would be) and, better yet, a personable and reliable PC expert who I will always be able to call to keep it tuned up and running right. My new PC will never go the way of the old one because now I'm a phone call away to keep up the proper maintenance. Thank you Jeffrey!!
Description of Work: Jeffrey came on Fri morning 10/4 and did diagnostic work on my 10 year old PC which had been running slow for a long time. I watched as he worked and he explained everything he was doing and why. He performed PC tune-up, Malware removal, & installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with lifetime license. He recommended 2GB RAM ($100 to purchase & install) and I said to go ahead and order and was going to plan another appointment accordingly. I was impressed with Jeffrey's knowledge his ability to answer my questions in simple terms. He was punctual, clean-cut and neat, and wore a dress shirt and tie. After he left I used my PC off and on during the day and sent & received e-mail. I shut it down but got on again later in the evening and found it wasn't working properly. To make a long story short, he came the next day and determined that there was likely a virus and the PC had crashed. He took the PC home to remove my files and erase the hard drive to remove virus then re-install everything including 2 new GB of RAM.. When he brought it back on Sunday it was still running slow; the hard drive itself turned out to be the problem -- after all the additional diagnostic work. So we were both disappointed --But I had to have a PC so Jeffrey worked with me to determine my needs and pricing to keep within my budget and built me a custom PC. He installed what I wanted: Windows 7 ultimate, MS Office 2007, transferred files back that were on my old hard drive, brought it back out to my house (35 miles one way from where he lives), got my e-mail back up and running with Hughesnet (after some wasted time because I forgot my password), and did a super job -- even set up screen saver with horse theme and walked me though some things that were different than my earlier version of Windows.

Sat down, informed me there was a diagnostic test required before he could do anything. Seemed like test took 15 min of the l hour I had paid for. He informed me I had NO anti-virus or anti-malware protection. I told him the person who installed the equipment had installed these programs. He insisted they were not on machine and tried to prove it to me. He continued studying the equipment without advising we were now into overtime. When I noted this, I had to almost force him to gather his stuff, give me my bill and leave. I paid $20 for the diagnostic test, $20 for overtime just to get rid of him. I found him to be arrogant and unable to communicate with a novice like me. Had previous service person out the next day. He showed me where the anti-virus, etc., are notated in the programming. Had the printer working within about 20 minutes. I gladly paid him the full hour service and have experienced no problems since he was here. Well, none except operator error.
Description of Work: It's a mystery to me. Sat and looked at some electronic device he had and at my computer. Finally left with instructions to return the printer to the retailer for replacement. No improvement in anything that I could note.

I wanted to know why my printer was showing offline. I also asked if he had more time remaining could he transfer my files from my old computer to the new one. He immediately pulled out the contract and advised how much each service would be. He advised if he runs into any viruses he could offer their insurance which was priced at $90.00. So the bill began to climb. I then asked what was exactly included in the purchase of the Big Deal. He stated that the $39.00 was for the traveling charge and directed me to read the fine print. The fine print does not back up what I was told by the man that came out.

.Jeffery was a great help. He contacted me right away to set up an appointment. I had to change the appointment at one point and he was very accommodating and had no problem doing that. He was very prompt and professional when he arrived. Jeffery ran programs through the computer to see what needed to be fixed. He put on and took off programs I did not want or need. I also had him help me set up my photo shop, which was very helpful. I have already used him again to help me with a few more things and now have an appointment for him to work on another computer I have. He is very knowledgeable about a lot of things when it comes to computers and that means a lot to me, since I don't.
Description of Work: Ran tests is check out what needed to be done.Cleaned up and took off some of the things I did not need and also put on security to keep viruses out. Showed me some short cuts to do things and helped me set up my photo shop.

Jeffrey arrived on time and was not the typical IT person that I was expecting. He is personable and explains comcepts in a way thar non-technical clients can understand. I have used other companies and would definitely recommend Jeffrey for his expertise and great communication skills. I am planning on using him again to maintain my system and to set up the new computer I am planing on buying in the near future. It is also ressuring to have someone I trust to work on my computer and not worry about my personal files.

He spent less than 5 minutes on the computer for the time he was here. The rest of the time was spent telling me all about his services, how professional he is, and what I should do to make my computer run better. The proposal came to over $300 and when I balked at that idea for a 5-yr old computer he spent the rest of the time calculating what it would cost for him to build me a brand new computer. At the end, he told me he would email me an exact quote because he wasn't sure if he could use some of the components from my existing computer. At the end he looked at his watch and based on the time, he asked for an additional $20 for a total of $59. Apparently he went over the allotted hour and had to charge me for the extra time it took for him to explain the cost and quality of buying a new computer built by him. He did NO WORK ON MY COMPUTER and NEVER HAD ANY INTENTIONS OF DOING ANYTHING FROM THE MOMENT HE ARRIVED. The whole hour+ was spent giving me a pitch on his services. This is NOT what I thought I was paying for from ANGIE'S LIST. Totally disappointed.
Description of Work: Nothing. I paid the $39 for him to come in and give me a pitch about what services I should do and what my computer needed.

Comp-u-tition removed an expensive Norton 360 Virus protection program and replaced it with a free Avast Antivirus and sold me a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program for $40.00. Apparently some viruses were removed. However the end result is that after Comp-u-titian worked on it my computer is much slower now than before and I am having problems opening messages and printing others. It is very frustrating. I did send a note to the owner Jeffery indicating I had concerns. At this point, however, I have lost confidence in his business and will contact another computer repair company from Angie?s List and have them reinstall my Norton AntiVirus & correct the other problems. Unfortunately I?m out $215.00.

First, I must apologize to Jeffrey for not posting this rating sooner!! Jeffrey was very personable, professional and very knowledgeable in updating my computer. He performed a function that made my printer wireless so I could move it to another spot in the house giving me much needed space. He also installed a new anti-virus and an anti-malware function. After the computer fix, Jeffrey also invited me to ask questions if I had any. I did have a question a few days later and Jeffrey responded immediately, which was great!! I would definitely recommend Comp-u-tition to anyone who is having computer problems or issues. He also hooked up my tablet to Wi-Fi. Thank you Jeffrey for a job well done!!!

Called 08\30 asked if it was ok to come several days early. Came within 45 min. spent better part of 3 hours trying to fix problem.I would have thought seriously of beating PC with FOAM hammer, out of frustration. Jeffrey just kept on trying (Nominations for most patient man are being accepted.) This is 3rd time I have used Jeffrey (Multiple PC's) has always been "Straight arrow". Jeffery is willing to explain the what and why's of what he is doing. Not that I understand much, but he tries.

Jeff was very friendly, but got right to work. Our computer has had problems for a couple of years (partly because my Dad bought the computer new and transferred infected data from the previous computer), then my brother & I both tried to fix it (which caused additional problems because I didn't know what the h*** I was doing)! I really appreciate the work that was done. I will definitely refer my friends to this company. And as you can see from the picture, our dog supervised Jeff & assisted as well. LOL.

THIS WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE! Jeffrey is the kind of business man that other business could learn from. He was direct and honest and it was clear that his main goal was not to sell me products and try to make more money from me. His main goal was clearly wanting to get my computer working as optimally as possible to make sure I was happy. He totally accomplished this. Jeffrey started out by taking the hard drive out of my desktop to see if he could access it on his laptop. While this was going on, we began to talk about my laptop and he indicated that he could multitasks and take a look at my laptop to see if he could get it running more efficiently. He worked his magic and through our conversation, I opted to uninstall my Norton antivirus and have Jeffrey install an antivirus program and a malware program for minimal cost. The laptop is working much more quickly than before. This had made me very happy. Jeffrey also took my hard drive with him to attempt another solution to accessing the data on it. He indicated that he would be in contact with me with his results. Based on my conversation with Jeffrey, I've made the decision to back-up my computer online, rather than on an external hard drive (which I had connected to my desktop but it never backed up my data)...UGH! In addition, I will likely continue to work with Jeffrey to make sure my computer runs as efficiently as possible. Overall, I am very impressed with Jeffrey's knowledge and work.

My appointment was at 1:30 and Jeffrey called to say that he'd be a few minutes late. I really appreciated that. He recommended a basic tune- up and saw that the Norton program that I had was causing some of my problems. He thoroughly explained what was happening and recommended a free anti virus program (Avast!) which I had him install along with Malwarebytes. Jefferey was very professional and gave my some email and internet browsing tips. I look forward to having my PC tune-up with Comp-u-tition as needed and would definitely recommend this business to my friends.

Well, if you are looking for an IT guy, Jeffrey is your go-to guy! Initially, I just wanted him to check out my son's laptop, but I ended up having him go through my computer for any virus or malicious spyware also. He is very knowledgeable and goes through the whole procedure explaining step-by-step what he is doing and how the computer is responding. As it turned out, my son's computer was crashing and there was no reviving it other than getting a new hard drive and a new battery. It was old, so instead my son got a new laptop. So, Jeffrey's second trip back was to pull information off the old laptop, and install into the new. We wanted a certain office set-up, but it seems that you can purchase it right online for a lot of money, and then you don't really own it, as it then becomes a subscription that you pay yearly. But Jeffrey had the program and he installed it at a very low price with no renewal fees. It is in the laptop to stay. So, it is little (well big) things like that that Jeffrey can offer that can make a huge difference in pricing. Also, he is very professional and has a great personality. He is a good conversationalist which helps because of the lengthy waits while the computer is doing its "thing". Give Jeffrey a try and I know you won't be disappointed!

This was the third on-site visit by the provider. The first two were for computer enhancements and the third was for establishing the functionality of my new smart TV and peripherals. As with the visits for the computers, Jeffrey worked diligently and expertly to set-up the TV, ensure it was working properly, and teach me the essential functionality. I was very pleased with his expert knowledge, work habits, and concern for the things I wanted to know and understand, as well as for his patience and listening.

The service provider showed me where the reset button is on my modem. This works in completing the connection; however, it doesn't really solve the problem. Hitting the reset nearly every time I sit down to the computer is not a good solution. Plus, this connection problem shows up on my laptops as well. I tried to suggest that the problem might have something to do with the filter where the modem goes into the phone jack, but my suggestion was ignored. The provider scanned and cleaned up my computer for errors. He then put on Avast as a free firewall and Malabyte on the PC and one laptop. I was charged $40 for this addition. Since then, I have problems with playing anything requiring a flashdrive. I keep downloading the new software, but my computer "protects" me from using it. I finally went into Avast and temporarily disconnected the firewall. That has helped some. I definitely felt that these added programs made it more difficult for me to enjoy watching online videos from Facebook, news stories, and U-Tube. There was pressure to have them installed and some "scare tactics" if I didn't do it, i.e., that my computer would be overrun with viruses. (I already had Norton on there.) Finally, the provider checked out my problem with not knowing how to get my TV to run DVD's. After checking it out with the main remote we use, he declared that the remote was broken and said I should phone DISH for a new one. I did that later. A week after the provider's visit, my nephew came in, picked up an additional remote that I had also shown the provider, and showed me how to use it to turn on the DVD part. My nephew also said that the "broken" remote was just fine and wasn't meant to use for the DVD's. For all this, I was charged $162.50, which included the additional time for looking at the TV remotes. The price on Angie's List was, I believe, $79 for two hours of the provider's time. I hate giving a bad review, but this is what happened.
Description of Work: The provider was there to diagnose and correct a problem I am having with broadband reception and my modem. I have to enter the modem Access Code almost every time I go online. I also requested that he help me with figuring out how to use the DVD controls with one or more of my remote controllers.

The work went flawlessly. On the first visit the reason for my computer's slow performance was accurately diagnosed, and quick and efficient steps were taken to restore the computer's peak performance. On the second visit I was trained in maintaining accurate backups of my data to three locations, thus ensuring complete confidence that my data were secure. The service provider was punctual to the point of calling when he was running just a few minutes late. I really appreciated this courtesy. The provider was very knowledgeable and friendly, and explained everything that was being done - making me better able to maintain my computer myself. In the interim between visits to my home, the provider quickly responded to both email and voice mail questions that I had - I was never left hanging or wondering if I would get a callback. The price to value was very good, and pricing was made very clear and understandable before work was done. I felt I was dealt with in an honest and straightforward fashion, and I will continue to use this provider for computer and other electronic needs.
Description of Work: I have utilized this provider twice, and each time the services fully met my expectations. On the first visit to my home my computer's performance was significantly enhanced in an efficient and on-target process. On the second visit I received in-home training on backing-up my computer on multiple locations, along with several other training topics.

Certainly the computer was indeed set up - the point of his visit. In addition to the one hour I had paid through Angie's List he charged me $157 for the first visit. It's my fault that I didn't question his bill but I was a bit confused by it when he left. He charged for downloading data from my back-up Carbonite - which I didn't realize he had done. This was evidenced by the fact that I did it again the next day - obviously not realizing he had done it -- and had charged me additional for it. He didn't offer any information about the operation of the computer - which is totally new to me. (I've used a Dell desktop for many years.) Thus, when I experienced a freeze the next day, I felt I had to call him to fix the problem. All it needed was to re-boot the computer -- at a charge of $45 additional. I thought I HAD rebooted but I had only put it in sleep mode -- simply a lack of familiarity with the particular machine. Ultimately, he did the job. However, I feel mildly to moderately "ripped off." I take responsibility for not having questioned his billing on the spot.
Description of Work: Set up Dell Inspiron laptop - returned to reboot computer.
