We knew we had to replace our contractor's HVAC man when he said we could use the space under the door leading upstairs for the return air for the second story addition to our home. We got 3 estimates from Angie's List vendors for our HVAC. UMC was by far the best price (less than half!!!) and had the best reviews. We are so glad we chose them. They were, without a doubt, the nicest contractors that worked on our project. Yuri, the owner, is hands on. He and his assistant, Victor, were always eager to please, did top notch work and we were so glad we found them! They worked quickly and around the schedules of many others very easily. They were always very pleasant, no matter how many interruptions there were.
Description of Work: UMC completely replaced an old heating system with a new 2 zone heating/air conditioning system In a 1946 home remodel/rebuild with a second story added. This was no easy task due to our many requests. The heating unit was placed in the small basement and the A/C unit was placed behind our garage (so we couldn't hear it) with underground wire and coolant running to the house. Yuri was key in our choice and size of units. He and his men were all very pleasant to have around the work site. More than once they had to repair damage to ducts done under the house by other contractors. It was always done with a smile and no additional fee. Yurik has come to adjust or explain anything that has been needed since we moved in December.

Very bad. These guys are on my blacklist.
Description of Work: Called UMC in regards to a non-working furnace. The problem is pretty straight forward - the pilot is not working and needs to be replaced. UMC wanted to charge $97 to come out for a diagnostic visit. When I explained to him that it is a pilot that isn't working they became very rude and stated they refuse to work on any jobs where the problem is known. I guess it is much easier to over charge if the customer has no clue what is going on. Avoid these guys at all costs. Update 06/01/12: Either the owner is confusing me with someone else (meaning he has been rude to more than one customer recently) or I need to add outright lying to his repertoire. So what is the problem with his response of 05-23-12? 1. I never raised my voice or changed my tone. To raise my voice or change my tone would imply I care that he does the job. What do I care if he wants to price himself out of the competition - there is a hundred more providers, just about all with better customer service skills then this guy, on Angie's List, yellow pages, etc. The next call got me a professional, at half the diagnostic price, who didn't mind having an intelligent conversation with a customer. 2. As soon as I stated the problem is "most likely the pilot" he went off on me and very rudely cut me off. He told me he doesn't work on any jobs where the problem is known and to take my business elsewhere (which I did). The conversation ended here with me saying "No problem, thank you." and hanging up.There was no time for him to give me a sob story on how cost have gone up. What, he thinks my gas cost haven't gone up? That times aren't tough for us?Or thats Its just him who has to tighten his belt. 3. Either he is confused, imagining or straight out lying about all of his "explanations of cost", and seven years in business, etc. etc. No matter what the excuse they are poor and definitely reinforce the fact you should not work with guy. 4. No discussion of warranties or vendors or what not as he "did not want to do the job". Why would you spend time discussing all of this if you don't want to work with me. 5. He did not recommend working with some with out a license or a handyman either - but lets just suppose he had. Do you really want to work with a vendor who tells a potential customer to get a handyman off the street to work on a gas furnace (you know gas, the kind that can explode and can burn the house down if not done properly). Doesn't sound like a guy who cares about the well being of his customers whatsoever. I guess its all about the dollars with him. About the only thing that is truthful in his response is the first two lines: 1. He did state that he charged a $97 diagnostic fee (in the six companies I called through Angie's list this was the highest) and 2. that if he did the "repairs" then the $97 would be applied to the bill (std. terms in the industry - everybody does it and it is nothing special). Seriously do yourself a favor and stay away from this guy. He either lies or is confused, doesn't care about your well being, and is very unpleasant. As a customer you have choices and you shouldn't have to give your hard earned money to some guy who wants to walk all over you. You pay good money to Angie's List to avoid guys like him! Make use of it!

Response from UMC HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERATION
Gentlemen called name Member. Asked me about my services and I explain my company charges. I have diagnostics fee for $ 97.00 but if we do the job we will waive that $ 97.00 it would be only parts, labor and tax. He took his tone of voice to the next level asking me why are we expensive. And I have told him for the last 7 years that what my charges are. Gas prices went up, truck expenses, and insurance prices went up but I still charge $97.00. Over head went up but I still charge $ 97.00. Right there he changed his tone. He has stated that he knows what the problem is plus he has the price but he doesn’t want me to charge more. I said that I do not know where you got the pricing but my price would be different just because I buy the parts from my vendors and I do not shop cheap places. My vendors are manufactures. Lennox, Trane, Carrier, Rhyeem Ruud, etc. My parts are warrantee by my vendors and by me. If something goes wrong with that part I have to come in and do the free labor. This is not pleasant. I am loosing labor money. I have told him sorry, I can’t help you. Probably you want you can find someone without license or handyman on the street to do what you wanted me to do. Since him speaking very loud tone I refused to work with him. For my customers I will do a lot of things. But for the first color, you have to show me some respect. I felt like he was very pushy and very demand full. And you know I am very prideful that’s why I said I am not going to help you.

Great. The estimate was that it would take one day--but they showed up promptly at 8am and were finished by around 1pm. Cleaned up very well after themselves. Yurik is great to talk to--he has so much HVAC knowledge and is willing to answer any questions and provide detailed explanations. Victor helped him out and also did a nice job. The city inspector came today, crawled up in the attic to examine the ductwork and passed the job with a smile on his face.

I appreciate their honesty and will call them next time I need appliance repair services.
Description of Work: Very honest company. After explaining that my washing machine was over 10 years old, they advised me to buy a new machine rather than spend money on labor and parts, which have gotten to be very expensive. They spent a lot of time on the phone with me and gave me advice on what to purchase so that I wouldn't waste money. I will call them again I am need of appliance repair.

I spoke with Yurik a few moments ago. He was very honest from the start. He told me that he did not know how to repair what I needed fixed, so he referred me to another company, that he thought very highly of. I was happy that somebody didn't just try to collect a service call.

Yuri talks a good game but is a rip off artist. I hired him knowing he was more per hour than others thinking he would give me top notch service. He could not commit to a price saying my unit could have any number of things wrong with it,. He replaced some parts & charged the freon. would not guarantee anything. It worked in cooling mode,. It was not until the following week that I discovered it did not work in heating mode. Sent one of his guys to look at it again His employee said he did not clean the fan which was cacked with dirt and unable to spin well due to the weight of the dirt. Another bill plus an exorbitant additional "travel" charge to drive up the hill as he put it to Tapings. By the way,, in the beginning I asked what anew unit would cost to replace. He said over $4000, so I decided to go for the fix. later on I checked and found superior units online for $1600 (plus install of maybe $1000 tops). Stay away from this guy.
Description of Work: Repair of heat pump split system. Recharge with freon. Replace some parts. Clean fan.

Response from UMC HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERATION
Before starting the repair I give 100% information to the customer so there would be no surprises I do my best do give as much as I can. If you call this being an artist then I am the best artist there is (that means the best technician). Which most of the people they need technician like me as most people calls me being professional. Because I am in a trade and I do my best to satisfy each and every customer. As every customer knows even on the phones we tell them what is wrong, what can go wrong? If its worth to fix it or not, if we have the complete information provided by the customer. I have told him that it’s not worth it to repair this unit. My suggestion was to replace it. Since we didn’t know how big the R-22 Freon leakage was my suggestion was do not spend money on this and at the time I didn’t know if there was any other issue with a unit. At that time when I found out there was no Freon, there is no way I could start the unit without Freon so I had to charge the Freon in order to diagnose the unit. I stated him that after charging Freon I will do more diagnostics of the unit. Since he was doing two things at the same time he had me working on the unit and he had meeting at his house with his engineer. After charging Freon I found out that there was a compressor issue and going further I found that capacitor was weak and I offered him to replace the capacitor. At this point I gave him a price $ 704.00 total, and then the Angies list discount so that came up to $ 669.06. I have told him again to think about it and not to spend money on the unit. it took him an hour and a half to decide. He couldn’t decide to replace the unit or repair it. He asked me about new installation of mini split unit and I have told him I will only recommend Fujitsu Samsung or Mitsubishi. I added also that these are the only units working effectively and they are high efficiency systems. These are the only units I worked with and the it would cost him $ 4000 for brand new installation. At this point he could have pay me my service call which I offered him no service call he could have stop me and to have more time to think about it but he didn’t. He Said go ahead and repair it. I also stated from the beginning through the end that I’m not guaranteeing anything because unit was installed very poorly and that point I still could not find the leak point. The only oily spot that I found it was the service valve and I have told him that this service valve if it doesn’t hold then we need to replace the valve and that is more money that’s why “I DO NOT RECOMMEND REAPRING IT OR SPENDING MONEY”. After Starting the unit I found out more problems dirty evaporator wheel. To clean the evaporator blower wheel it would cost him more money, he didn’t like the idea that there was more work to be done and more money to spend. But he still gave me ok to do half of the job stating “my tenant need cold air” “we will think about that later”. Because it was working at that time and I have told him that I don’t know when it will break or gave us a problem. When I clean the filters, filters were so filthy that’s why I have told him that it could be more problems. The unit was neglected without service who knows for how long. He lives in Topanga city up on the hill. And he wanted to do without service call. I have told him that my van is very heavy van. Until I get there I will spend half of the tank just because I was driving within high gear. I was right until I got to his place it was very far and it was high hill all the way I did spend more than a quarter tanks only from freeway to his house. I gave him free service call. I haven’t changed him for the service call. Originally when he called me, he has called me for his main house. And he was having some issue brand new installed heating and air-condition system split unit by different company. His complaint was that the unit was short cycling it. I have given him lots of information before me getting to his place. There has been phone conversation proximately on and off. Within three days we spoke with each other for almost three and a half our each time approximately 10 hours of conversation total. When I got there I found several problems with his new installations. Unit was too big, over sized. Within 5 years compressor will fail, and not evenly distributed duct work. Duct works issues. On this we spend four hours no penny was collected from him for that. My suggestion was go back to your installer work with them they will most likely take care of the problems. And he is a general contractor. They have screwed him big time. He asked me ‘if you would quote this job how much would be your price.” I have said that I would do this job for $9000. He answered was that he paid way too much and the job is done not correctly and I’m not satisfied with a job. And again I recommended him that he has one chance only to talk to the company who installed the unit for him. For mini split I gave a choice any time he decides to replace the units he paid me total of $ 816.06 I will deduct this form the quote that I have gave him from $ 4000. 00. He called me for the second time for repairing the unit because unit wasn’t operating. I treated as call back so I have sent my technician over to see what’s going on with the unit. My technician called me back stating that the blower motor was dirty and needs to be clean. After running 45 min. motor over heads and slows down. Money back guarantee. After talking to him on and off. I received a call from my technician saying that the member wants him to do a side jobs. I got mad but I have told my technician that’s your choice but it’s not going to be under my title and under my license I have nothing to do with this it’s you( the tech and the customer). It was your responsibilities not mine. Most likely he convinced my technician to do the side job but he has told me that he is going to think about it to respire it or not. And I also told him that if I replace the unit money will be included in the price. I don’t have an invoice stating that I have charged him $1200 all I have is invoice number # 3230 for $669.06 and invoice number # 3736 for $ 147.00 and I think you can calculate that total of $ 816.06 not $1200. I do not buy or install or warranty mini split units purchased online form internet because of the manufactures are not supporting and I can lose my license and certificate from Fujitsu. Is this how you thank me for my free work? Please do not make side technician I can to protect you from it.

Nightmare. We called them for our rental home when our HVAC unit broke down on Saturday. We have a company we usually work with but because it was Saturday, they were closed and we had to choose somebody else. They replaced the capacitor and our unit was fixed. After they replaced the capacitor, they warned us the filter needs to be replaced urgently, and this is a very dangerous situation. They also warned us the motor needs to be replaced which will cost $700. Next day, I called our regular HVAC guy, and explained the situation. They told me what UMC told us did not make sense. After we replaced the filter with our regular HVAC guy(which was HALF the cost UMC wanted to charge us), UMC called us a couple of times urging us to replace the filter and the motor since supposedly we have a very 'dangerous' situation. I brought in another technician and he said our unit is working under normal condition. A couple of weeks later, UMC called again and left a THREATENING voicemail, and said the card number we gave them was wrong and this would be the last time they would warn us(Until that day, they called a couple of times urging us to replace the filter but NEVER told us the card did not go through). Our tetnant from the rental home called us, and said UMC called HER and told her they would take back everything they installed because of this problem. This was terribly disturbing and we could not feel more disrespected. We are sure they took down the wrong card info (They also misspelled everything from Email address to our last name) and blamed everything on us. They told us the parts were still under warranty but they screwed up and we ended up paying for the parts. We emailed them to get the parts back so we can report the warranty claim for them but they refused to give us the parts back since the parts are TOXIC(??). We emailed again to get at least our unit number, and we never heard from them again. They may come off as if they really care about you when what they are really after is your $$$. One minute they told us we have a very dangerous situation and they wanted to help, then the next minute, they wanted to take back everything they installed and couldn't care less about the unit or the customer, ALL for their simple mistake. Egragious. Will NEVER call them again and will NOT recommend them to anyone.

Response from UMC HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERATION
My name is Yurik Khudanyan, sole owner of the UMC appliance repair, our reputation with Angie’s list is of paramount importance to us. We always strive to achieve 100% satisfaction as evidenced by our 3 Super Service Awards and many exemplary reports. Unfortunately, I never had any direct contact with this member and worked through a very unresponsive contractor. This situation created several miscommunications. The proximity of the surrounding walls to the unit is what created the dangerous situation. I lacked the expiration date on the charge card. I can substantiate the quoted accurate costs of the filter and motor. We really do care about providing conscientious service and never took a threatening tone with anyone. And as previously stated we never had any contact information for this member and worked through the unresponsive and negligent contractor. In the future we will only accept jobs where we are provided with direct contact to members in order to circumvent this level of miscommunication. Please review my many exemplary reports. I am very sorry for your nightmare, but allow me to explain what really transpired. K**** C*****. **** MARINA CITY DR UNIT **** MARINA DEL REY I received a call on Saturday, January 14,2012 from Y**** T******* and he said that he has a 4 year old Lennox unit, which for the last 3 years has been blowing fuses. He also said that, all he would do is replace the blown fuses and the unit would start working. He stated that, he changed the fuses but this time, the unit did not start. I offered an appt. for Monday, but he said he wants it now. However, I did not have any technicians available for Saturday, so I personally went to the call. When I took the call and explained all my charges he said that, he needs to talk to the owner then get back to me; I asked to speak to the owner directly, but he refused to give me the number stated that they are very busy. He called me back 10:38 am he said ok, and a 3pm to 5pm appointment was scheduled. I was there before the appointed time. **** Wilkinson ave studio city Within 10 minutes, I found the problem and started looking for the cause of the malfunction, (high efficiency air filter was extremely dirty. I called him back to inform him of the cause of the problem, I was told to call back in 45 minutes, because he is busy. I called back later and explained that the Air Handler unit was not installed properly, according to the manufacturer’s specifications (No proper access to air handler unit. Therefore the warranty is voided, unless he could provide proper access by cutting a part of the wall, which would reinstate his warranty. (The unit is still under warranty for another year). I offered to replace the blower motor using his warranty, if he could provide proper access to the unit. I never said at any time that the unit is not good or has any problems; all I said was that the blower motor has been running hot for three years because of lack of proper air to the blower motor. This would eventually overheat and burn the motor. After replacing the capacitor I cooled down the blower motor I measured running amps blower motor was 2.8 amps which is absolutely normal. Based on what Y**** told me ( for the last 3 years) and what I saw hot motor my all 31 years of experience shows that 3 years hot motor it shortens the life of the motor. I also told the Y**** for the power connections secure bracket fuse box needs to have a 3 feet clearance it has none (this is what the danger comes in). This is what I have stated that danger comes in. This was an improper access to the electrical components in case of emergency ( lack of clearance). Explanation; “Blower motor not running over heated very hot. The capacitor was blown up and just started leaking oil. I replaced capacitor, and motor started running; I check the amps were normal 2.8 amps. When I spoke with Y**** I said the motor is running 2.8 amps which means it is OK but since it is over heated for the last 3 years for lack of preventive meatiness I could replace the motor and capacitor under warranty if you can give me clearance access so I can remove the blower motor housing assembly, I told Y**** that I will check Monday with LENNOX to see if the unit is still under warranty. He said let me talk to the owners; I ask again, if it is possible for me to explain the situation to owner, he said no his in charge. I never talked to the owner nor had their names.” First thing Monday spoke with LENNOX representative, he explained that on the registration or owner’s manual book clearly states what the requirements for clearance installation are and preventive maintenance requirements that needs to have serviced twice a year. Clearance requirements have to be minimum 24’’ NOT ( 4‘’) and must have completely access to two front panels or doors. INSTALLATION CLEARANCES WITH ELECTRIC HEAT Cabinet Service / Maintenance See Note #2 access - 24 inches (610 mm) minimum. NOTE - If cabinet depth is more than 24 inches (610 mm), allow a minimum of the cabinet depth plus 2 inches (51 mm). After talking with LENNOX I called Y****. He didn’t answer so I left a message. He called me back hours later I have told him that the hi efficiency filters needs to be replaced immediately because I took out the filter and left with one filter 1” and I said you cannot double filter. The unit was doubled filter which I left one inside. He said let me talk to the owners; I ask again, if it is possible for me to explain the situation to owner, he said no he will take care of it. And I added if he cuts the wall for excess I could do it under warranty since motor still under warranty one more year, motor overheated it is going to brake in the future so if he cuts the wall and all his going pay the labor only. After one year it will be over $ 700.00 to repair( OEM parts only) . He said let me talk to the owner and his going to get back to me I said I’m not going to charge until you call me back since I didn’t know if it is under warranty or not. I had invoice $404 for the job. If the Warranty will cover then only you would pay one h. labor $ 97.00 for filter I gave him the price he said he will call me back. Everything was told “I will get back to you” That was last conversation with Y****. After two days I have called again and he didn’t answered. Wednesday I tried again and no luck. I’m in business for 23 years only in USA and I knew that there is something is wrong so I decided to go ahead with the Credit card charges $ 404.00and the card declined we tried to run the credit card for couple of times and it still keep declining for the past 15 days. I have called all the numbers that I had on the invoice. After 15 days I called left massages I told If they do not pay I’m going to send to the collection agency. If this is threatening my guess is they live in a dream. If you were so disturbed and disrespected why didn’t you pick up the phone and just call and take care of that matter. I do not take care of my customers disrespectfully then who might know maybe I would take care of you as my ‘’customers’’. After leaving that message, Y**** calls back and I have told him that the something is wrong with the credit card somehow it doesn’t go through we went through with the information and expiration date was wrong. I have informed him about charges, that I’m going charge $404. I stated if they will provide me with clearance I will take care of the work and the money ( will be refunded) .Y**** again told me that he was going to talk to the owners and he will get back to me. He send me 2 emails. I have answered one of the emails for the second email I was busy I didn’t have time. Couple of days later I received notification from Angies list. And there was the feedback. One thing you’re right you do not need technician like me that tells you the truth. Your tech on the other hand his preparing work for himself for future, in the future when motor fails you are going to pay big box to replace motor. UNIT WORK OK. Before your unit warranty is off I will suggest that you call another LENNOX dealer for your HVAC. LENNOX is a highly reputable company, and only LENNOX dealer has to install and service the LENNOX equipment pending of warranty. I look forward to being of service!

This is going to be a shorter review because I have previously reviewed UMC in longer review. This time, however, Yurik himself came to help me out because my heat wasn't working and his technicians were all busy on jobs. I appreciate that he came to make sure I had heat on what was a chilly morning. Yurik was great. He has experience in many areas related to heating/ac, and he shared his insights with me. He fixed the problem very quickly and gave me a rundown of the possible reasons for the failure. Yurik was well informed about the appliance. He knew what the trouble spots were and what to do to fix them. He also was easy to speak with and have a real conversation about his job, his profession, and more. I highly recommend UMC.

We liked working with him and everything went according to plan for the price he said. Would use again.
Description of Work: Yurik was very professional. His guys removed all the furnaces and installed an entire HVAC system, including ducts under the house, new registers, heating and AC units. He was careful to explain everything in detail. Quite happy with the quality and service.

When I called, I spoke with Yurik. He explained that they could come out, but if they didn't do any work, there would be a $97 service call. If they did the repair, that amount would be credited to the final bill. Alex came out, and was prompt. He inspected the situation, then repaired/connected the gas line and the vent. There was some issue of the vent being newer and the vent pipe being older (original 1950), with a potential incompatibility, but he got everything connected OK. He didn't test the furnace itself, nor did we expect him to. They charged us $285. When we later learned that our home warranty would not cover the additional repairs of the furnace (because it hadn't been working initially), I called UMC back about finishing the work. Alex said the additional repairs would normally be a $850 flat rate, but he would credit our initial labor, and ONLY charge us $650.00. Thinking that price seemed high, I called other services in Angie's List, and found someone who does only floor furnaces. He came out the next day, got everything fixed in about an hour (including replacing the mica glass and removing a BUNCH of trinkets and toys which had been dropped in by the kids who used to live in the house), for $360. total, including parts. Alex also finished his work in about an hour. but the receipt reflected two hour's labor. When I pointed this out, he gave me several (different) reasons why he should charge me for two hours: drive-time (which wasn't mentioned on the phone), thinking, etc. He said he could charge me for one hour, but then he'd have to charge me for other stuff, and it would work out the same. While UMC seemed to do a good job (the furnace does work, and the second repairman didn't have to redo any of the initial work), their estimate for the additional work was tremendously overpriced, even with the "discount." Based on the work of the second repairman, I have a strong feeling they overcharged me on the initial work, too.
Description of Work: The floor furnace in our new house had a visibly-disconnected vent, and we had the leaking gas line capped (not by UMC) when we initially moved in several months earlier. The furnace itself was untested, condition unknown. We had UMC reconnect the gas line and vent, but not repair/test the furnace (we thought our home warranty would cover that repair).

They came out right away and they did a great job. Other companies were not were not willing to take the time to help me without replacing the entire unit. He found that I just needed my pilot light lit, and that was it. The problem was fixed right away. I appreciated his promptness, and I would highly recommend him.

I couldn't be happier! Big shout out to Alex and Yurik for their quick work to repair my wall furnace at a totally reasonable cost. UMC is local, reliable and professional. I am sooo looking forward to heat tonight, and can't say thanks enough! When my heater broke the Gas Company told me it would 8 days before they could come out to look at it, and that based on what I described I'd probably have to call someone else out for the repair anyways. Of course I used Angie's List to find someone. UMC was close by and had great ratings. I called a couple of other folks as well but UMC had the best rates and the best guarantees. Alex came out that same day. He was both prompt and professional. Unfortunately the part I needed was not one they keep on hand, so he had to track it down. After finding it all the way down in Hawthorne, he returned to my house the next day for the repair. What I appreciated most was that when he thought he was done, we could still here a rattle. He didn't leave until the rattle was gone and he was confident that the furnace was working 100% right. Thanks UMC!
Description of Work: Replace fan and motor of wall furnace. Also checked that the firebox was in good shape and cleaned out the dust bunnies. :)

Yurik did the service and the guy seemed to know what he was doing. The guy was busy but he tried to accomodate my appointment which had to be done around 6 PM. He fixed my problem and he also gave me a verbal estimate on how much it would cost to replace my A/C unit with a promise that he will credit his service fees if I purchase a unit from him. Unfortunately, I think the condo needs replacement instead of the A/C =) Overall, I am satisfied with his services.
Description of Work: My condo's central A/C was not blowing cold air. It was blowing outside temperature air which was really warm on a SoCal summer.

Yurik, the owner, came out to evaluate the problem. It was clear that he was knowledgeable and proficient. He was quick to spot the inexpensive fix to my immediate problem, but then went on to explain in simple terms the origin of the problem--fixing my duct work/insulation--and why it was causing my filter to clog so quickly which caused my heat to prematurely shut off. He replaced my filter, explaining that the prior repairman had put in the incorrect filter size. I have had too much bad luck prior to joining Angie's list. But since then, I have had great success with repairs. I am sure that when Yurik comes to fix my duct work/insulation, I will be extremely satisfied. It is rare to have such an efficient, effective service call, and on short notice. Thanks Yurik!

I called for an appointment and was given a 2 hour window. I took an afternoon off, from work, to meet them. I provided my cell phone number and asked them to call me if there were any changes. They never showed and never called. Recommend using JW Heating and Air.

The job itself was completed properly, but issues surrounding it were very bad. I spoke with Yurik about the problem; he said if the motor was bad the part alone would be $300 and it wouldn't be worth it, but if it was just the belt it's a worthwhile repair. I verified the motor was OK. He sent Fred out. Then I get a call from Fred after the repair to authorize payment of $357.15; he said he also had to replace the pulley. This is in the ballpark of the cost of a new dryer. I was not happy about the cost, but what could I do at that point? I authorized payment and attempted to pursue the issue further with Yurik since I felt that after our discussion, I did not expect a repair to be performed at this amount. I'm not sure if the cost of the repair is justified or not. I asked that a copy of the invoice be e-mailed or faxed to me so I could see the cost of parts, markup, hourly rate, etc. I asked Yurik and his office for this over 6 times and have never received it. I don't expect to receive it. I was told that Fred went to the hospital after my repair and he had the invoice (although the charge went through the day of the repair). I waited patiently for Fred to get out of the hospital, following up numerous times because UMC did not follow up with me. That time never came so after a week, I finally had a discussion with Yurik about the cost. I had to do so without ever seeing the invoice. The most disturbing part of the whole experience is that at this time, he started swearing at me. I didn't respond in kind, but there's simply no reason for this. In the end Yurik agreed to reduce the cost of the repair to $200. It's a month after the repair and I've never received an invoice. It's really hard to find good major appliance repair. It's so easy to be taken advantage of. It's a real mine field. I will never know, but suspect that what happened to me was more "business as usual" rather than an exception.
Description of Work: Dryer required required repair because the drum didn't turn. I am an out-of-town landlord and could not be present. UMC replaced the belt and pulley.

I can't recommend Yuri highly enough. I was alone with 3 children at 8:30 p.m. on a dark and rainy night and the air conditioning starts blowing cold air into the house and won't turn it off. I called Yuri and even though his guys were out on a job he didn't let me down. On the phone, he talked me through several procedures to safely solve the problem. He was AMAZING - it was like calling 911 and having one of those superbly trained guys help you through a crisis. After temporarily fixing the problem we scheduled time for the next day to solve the issue more robustly. At no point did he hassle me for payment for his emergency services tonight - and - consequently - I will be a loyal customer going forward and give him the highest recommendation to everyone I know. Thank your Yuri for being so incredibly patient calm respectful personable and above all helpful and effective during a crisis. Your loyal new customer, Jill

In short, Yurik was the best contractor I was dealing with during my renovation in a house we bought. Many contractors performed different jobs here, but no one stands to the professionalism of UMC. Yurik has a great knowledge how to maintain and regulate temperature environment in the house. Yurik constantly educate himself and stay on top of the modern technologies. His team ( especialy Viktor ) are high professionalism and client oriented. Really, if you want best a best contractor to perform your project, choose Yurik and UMC.
Description of Work: Yurik and his team researched on my house for the best way to install furnace. Disassembled an old furnace in the basement, and installed a new one to the attic. They also reinforced roof just to be on a safe side ( no one else from their competitors suggested to do it ). Arranged and performed a successful inspection. The service was provided without delays.
