UMC HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERATION

My tenants had reported that socal gas was unable to get the pilot lit on the old gas floor furnace in our historic bungalow. I called a contractor friend who went over, and with no prior experience with floor furnaces, was able to get the pilot to light but could not get the burner to work. I then searched the internet for a heating/ac company that had experience with floor furnaces, since it seems there are fewer and fewer technicians who know how to repair them. I called a company (A&B) that listed floor furnaces on their website. A&B's technician came to the house and claimed the floor furnace was broken beyond repair and that I needed a replacement system - he recommended central heat/air. It was clear from our conversation that he hadn't attempted to repair the heater and was just trying to sell me a new system, at a cost of several thousands of dollars. I decided it was time for a second opinion, so the next day I did what I should have done all along - joined Angie's List to find an honest repair person. Based on the reviews, I selected UMC Appliance. I spoke with Yurik, explaining the problem. Yurik was skeptical that the heater could be fixed, since 3 others had already been unable to get it running, but he agreed to send out a technician later that same day. According to my tenants, their technician came out that afternoon and fixed the heater in a matter of minutes by "jiggling some wires." If you have a floor furnace that needs servicing, I suggest you call UMC.

I called UMC on a Monday and, although it was the middle of the holiday season and they were booked up until after New Year's, they arranged to have someone come out at 8am the next morning -- which was exactly when he arrived. The problem required him to practically disassemble my entire refrigerator and replace the chiller in the refrigerator. It took him 2 1/2 hours, including the time to dash to the parts supplier and secure a new chiller. The part cost $269; the rest was time & labor, which given the amount of time and effort it took, seemed very reasonable. The freezer and refrigerator have been working perfectly ever since. Very, very pleased with this company's service.

The job went very well. The service technician was on time. I choose UMC because they had reviews for repairs as well as installations. Other vendors seem to be hired mostly for installations, which was not in my budget. I was concerned because my heater is 20+ years old and I thought they would push me to replace. But that did not happen. The UMC tech came out the same day. The tech determined that the fan time needed to be replaced as did the filter. The tech left to get the parts and returned the same day to do the work. The technician was very courteous and we were very pleased.

I called UMC on the morning of 12/29/2010 as we had not been able to obtain any heat from our a/c unit. Yurik took my call and agreed to come to our property that day. Yurik arrived within an hour or so and quickly diagnosed the problem i.e. faulty thermostat / wiring. Overall I found Yurik to be very courteous and gracious. I will be calling him should we have any further issues

I'm afraid I don't have time for this level of detail, but the server person was punctual, friendly, extremely knowledgeable (if a little over-opinionated in a harmless way), and, more to the point, diagnosed and fixed the problem for a very reasonable price.

They were prompt, with same-day service. They were friendly and courteous too. I was impressed that when he inspected our water heater, Yuri told me that it would eventually fail, but that there was no problem continuing to use it until that time. He could have easily sold me a new heater, or did alterations on the venting system, but he didn't. I recommended the company to my mother-in-law when she needed work done on her furnace, and she was also very happy with their work.

I called and they came out the following day. A part was needed. They ordered the part and installed it the following day. I was very grateful as they repaired the heater on Thanksgiving eve. I entertained aprroximately 20 guests on Thanksgiving. We were all thankful for the warmth made possible by this company. I would highly recommend them.

Since we had moved into our house (1.5 years), the programmable thermostat for the AC/heat hadn't worked properly. When we finally got around to calling UMC Appliance, Yurik was able to come over the same day and diagnose the problem very quickly. We had to replace the thermostat -- he gave us a couple of options and a fair price that included labor (plus an Angie's List discount). Within an hour, the problem was fixed. He also took the time to both program and explain the thermostat to us and also point out a couple of other issues -- such as a register cover that should be reversed for proper air flow. We were very impressed with the service from UMC Appliance Repair.

We called at 8pm, and they were there the next day at 11am. It was 100 degrees and we were desperate. It was fixed by noon. Would definitely recommend and use again!

We called him during the hottest time LA has ever had. He showed up on time that night at 7pm and not only did a professional job but was very cordial. He not only repaired the problem with the air-conditioner but check out the heater and showed me how to do preventative maintenance. He explained what the problem was and what he did to correct it. The price was very reasonable. He did not charge any up-charges. We will definitely refer him to our friends and neighbors.

I called Yuri @ 10PM on wednesday night (thought I would give it a shot) he answered immediately and wanted to help me start troubleshooting it over the phone which I thought was awesome. It was dark out so I just asked if he could come in the morning. He had a time slot from 1-3PM and he told me not to wait around and that he would just call me whe he was 30min away. He called me about 2:15pm, I raced home, he was here waiting for me. He went up to the blower unit and in 2 minutes he knew what whas wrong. He pulled out the bad part which had some numbers that were illedgible. We google'd the partial part number to confirm the voltage of this capacitor - he said he had one in his truck and 10 minutes later it was fixed. He also instructed me on how to properly maintain the a/c unit, he fixed a noise coming from a vent and discussed my future options for replacing my 30 year old heat/blower unit (though he was not pushing at all he said this was fine for now). Really nice knowledgeable guy and prompt service which I could believe when it was in the middle of an LA heatwave. I will definitely call him again. My one gripe - he didn't give me the Angie's list discount. I didn't push for it though I just mentioned the I was thrilled to find him on Angie's List.

UMC was called yesterday afternoon due to a malfunctioning air conditioning unit. They tried to reach us in the evening to set up an appointment for today; however, our phone was not working well. I called them this morning and was pleasantly surprised to learn that UMC had set aside an 11AM - 1PM time slot for us even though we were new customers and they had not been able to confirm it the previous night. UMC called before they came and arrived in the middle of the stipulated time window. "Yuri" and "Ira" were very personable and I learned some about air conditioning from them. They quickly diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and during this record-breaking Los Angeles heat wave, we thankfully have our air conditioning back! Pricewise, Yuri gave us an Angie's 5% discount and a senior citizen 10% discount. All-in-all, a very pleasant and timely experience!

It was great. He was in and out and I was glad that the thermostat was not broken.

The repair man arrived exactly on time, took only a few moments to diagnose the problem and was able to fix it in an hour and a half. His rate was more than fair and he was pleasant to deal with. I liked him so much that i signed up for their maintenance service for the next year which was also at a very reasonable rate.

Yurik came out to do a maintenance check/tuneup since our AC wasn't at the fullest strength. He was super thorough and discovered that not all the wiring was connected to the house. Since I just purchased my first home, he did a great job explaining what he was doing. I learned a lot for sure!!! He was able to rewired our AC temporary so the next stage of the system can kick in but I had to get someone to rewire the rest of the lines to our house. Luckily, I have a year of home warranty, so they can cover the rewiring for now just to save some money! If not, I would asked Yurik to come back and do the rest of the work for me. =)

The job went very well overall. It took about one day more than they had predicted as they could not use the existing copper tubing as we had hoped. They had to install all new pipes leading from the furnaces to the condensers, along the roof. They did a beautiful job, insulating the pipes and then placing them in a dedicated conduit, which they sealed and painted to insulate and resist the weather. I feel they did the job really as it should be done but as few professionals would take the time to do. The system works great, and I hope that with UMC performing the yearly maintenance, this system will outlast the old system's 40 years of service!

Overall it went very well. Moises and his crew were punctual, polite, professional and overall very good. Since they had to finish the work on a weekday when I would not be home, they made sure to finish all interior work while I was able to be at home to let them in. Yuri and Moises were also present for the inspection, at which point Moises did some additional patching of the walls to my complete satisfaction. Customer service is clearly a big part of their working ethic.

Moses went above and beyond to complete this job. He arrived on time and came in on budget even though he had to repair a few additional things that came up along the way, and had to come back the following day to finish up. We were so happy we had hired UMC and will hire them in the future.

My central air had just stopped working for no apparent reason. I called up this company at 9:30pm to leave a message for someone to return my call in the morning. I was shocked when someone answered the phone.... I was even more shocked when that person was amazingly helpful, cheerful and professional. I described what had happened and they said, "Well, before I send someone out there, let's see if we can get this fixed." I probably should have stated from the start that I'm a first time home owner and this is my first ever experience with central air. So, when the representative told me to go check the circuit breaker to see if the line was popped... I could have kicked myself. I flipped the circuit and immediately the problem was fixed... now I just had to deal with feeling like a maroon. But the gentleman on the line just laughed and said he was glad to be of service. This experience showed me a lot of things. One, that the company is professional and responsive to the extreme. Two, that they could have just sent someone out and picked up a fee, but instead did the honest thing and fixed the "problem" for free over the phone. That's the kind of company I want to work with. When something does go wrong here with my AC... they will definitely be my first call. Recommended.

The little unit is quiet and cools the area so well. I will call UMC again - for my business and when I need work on the big heat/air unit for the main part of my house. I wish I'd know about them a couple of years ago. And, they do more than a/c so I feel like this is a great find, a great experience. Old fashioned customer service and being on time is so rare, so Yuri and UMC are a treasure.
