I had them come out a month ago to inspect a leaking area on my roof. I never received any contact from them after this point. They were supposed to email me a quote. Since then, I have followed up 5 times requesting the quote. Yesterday, I was promised a return call within 30 minutes. That call never came. It rained yesterday, so while I have been waiting for them fulfill their promise more damage has been done to the property. :-/

The Shea Brothers are real professionals. Their crew worked extra hard in a very organized manner until the job was perfect. They even added nice finishing touches to their work to make our roof look better than new. And they cleaned up after themselves each day, something that is very important to us. Their work was perfect in every way. The only slightly negative experience was that they kept us, without contact, waiting too long for their estimate. But they more than made up for the annoyance with their great work. We recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Shea Roofing completely renovated our roof: rebuilt the carport roof from the rafters up; installed tar paper; replaced damaged insulation, eave boards and roof boards; installed new edging, flashing and valleys; installed ridge vent to hide AC ducting, and of course laid new composite shingles.

They were cheaper and did a great job. I got them through a referral but I checked them out on Angie’s List for ratings and stuff. My overall experience with them was a 1000% top notch. They were on time and worked well. They were respectable and very professional. It seemed like everybody there was part of the customer service. They cleaned everything up and it was spotless. They took very good care and it was for my mother’s house. They were very kind and worked very hard. It was that hot time of the year and they did great. Their price was average. I will absolutely use them again in the future.

We started looking for roofing firms to replace our 20 year old roof. Two of our neighbors had used and recommended Shea Roofing. We checked the Angie's list reviews for more information. Bill was prompt for the estimate appointment and was thorough in his inspection. He lifted a corner of the existing shingles in one area, checked the flashing around vent pipes, looked at the gutters and ridges, and the existing attic venting. He provided a written estimate within 15-20 minutes of looking at our roof. It was not a hard sell. That is a big plus. Bill provided options, explained them well. Detailed cost estimates were provided. The scheduling was perfect. Perhaps the roofing business is a bit slower in July. Shea was able to schedule on a Monday the start the project the following Thursday (removal of existing roofing) to be completed Saturday afternoon. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day. I only found 2 or 3 nails by the trash cans; I expected more. Burbank Building and Safety required some structural improvements over the front door porch so the project was really completed on the following Monday. This did not show up during the estimate but was disclosed after all the roof shingles were removed. There was only one minor adjustment to a bathroom fan roof top vent that was done on 08/09/2013 to make the fan less noisy. We increased the amount of attic venting too to make that area cooler. We will recommend Shea Roofing in the future.

Bill has worked on several properties for me over the last 12 years. Always professional and on time and communicates status throughout the project. This time Shea Roofing did a tear off of three layers of roofing, re-sheathed the structure , and installed a new asphalt shingle roof. Three days, start to finish, no problems, and let everything clean and complete.

Crew was very fast, took about 3 days for the roof and then they came back out once the replacement skylights were in but in the interim ensured nothing leaked indoors. They did a nice job with the clean-up each day, much better than I expected. They painted all the vent pipes to match the new shingles and really cleaned up the overall look of the roof, they seemed to actually care not only about function but also about aesthetics at the end of the job. Shea Roofing was competitive with other bids, a little less than one, slightly more than another but the end scope of work quality I think was better. The reason I selected Shea was I felt like Bill was very straightforward, he was very matter of fact and not salesy. I also appreciated that someone who actually does reroofing came out to bid the job so there wasn't back and forth with the sales office and I had a quote in hand before Bill left. Bill's brother Ken oversaw the reroof itself and kept me very well updated along the way around rain delays requiring reschedule, skylight order timing, etc. Overall Shea Roofing did a nice job with our reroof and were easy to work with.
Description of Work: Had a complete reroof including replacement of 2 skylights, closure and removal of a 3rd skylight, resheeting of the entire roof as well as resloping a bad valley section that didn't drain or runoff.

My house's original 1987 concrete tile roof was due for rework due to obvious neglect from prior owners. They worked with my schedule on when to start. The job went a couple of days longer than antipated due to obtaining the correct roofing tile and excessive heat. They replaced underlayment, flashing, some rotted plywood sheathing, wood trim and did some touch up painting. ************************* Update: I have to down grade my review of this company because with the recent winds in my area the roof tiles "chatter". The wind lifts the tile slightly and then drop them thus making a tapping or chattering sound which wakes us up at night. I called this company to request that they correct the problem but all they did was tell me that chattering tile are normal. I did not have the problem prior to them doing the work so I don't feel it is normal. Bottom line, they refused to come out to evaluate the situation.
Description of Work: Replaced roof underlayment, flashing and reinstalled concrete roof tile.

Always check reviews from angies list, after checking credentials. This tells me how they treat thier customers, work ethics and if they live up to the promises and quality of work they specify. Personal experience many customers giveing reports from a place of honest personal experience, its invaluable !
Description of Work: after reviewing six potential, roofing companies through the CSLB&BBB AND ESTABLISHING bond, worhmans comp.& liability ins. Next the 4 remaining company's were evaluated by associations and the reports of the members of Angie's list that have used their services. The forgoing narrowed it down to 3 company's. RECIEVED a scope of work estimate & bid from a company, prior to receiving the bid from the company we choose. SHEA ROOFING,INC. Bill Shea promptly returned my call. We set a time for him to view the job & he wrote a proposal on 09-27-12 Bill needed an answer A.S.A.P. To accommedate his availability and lock in a day. Locked in 10-08-12,however Bill called in ample time to request date change to wed 10-10-12 due to a big job requireing his brother Kens over see. Bill Shea said that his brother would be at our site for most of the work, therefor we gladely agreed to the new date. The 2 workers were on time, actually slightly early. Very polite and set up after showed them to back. Ken Shea joined them by 10am an hour later. They all worked very hard and were totally professional. When finished they said good by and told me carolyn would stop by with paper work & release etc.& pick up check. THE SCOPE OF WORK : Checked all rounded eves.renailed any lifted shingles and re-secured any slipped shingles.re-sealed all needed vent and pipe flashing with polymer sealant and repainted. removed the shingles behind the chimney and all counterflashings, installed a metal cricket with shingles behind chimney and all new counterflashings. sealed & paint. Installed 1 GAF-Green Machine solar powered attic fan centered backside down from ridge/its the sun side.Repaired small hole on shingle, probable bird.Installed a custom fit chimney cap useing sealent instead of cement screws. Also used xra large flashing on solar fan site to redirect water more effectively. Cleaned entire job site, removing all debris. CHOOSE Shea roofing inc. because of their commitment to excellence. Important to me to have it done right. They were fair and reasonable, They were not low bid however. WIll take a bit of inclimate weather and some time to be sure however I do feel confident they did a 1st rate job and they offer a 2yr.workmans warrantee.I ,Would recommend this company to anyone.Very glad I selected them.

I hate to write a bad review as overall they did what I considered to be a good job on both roofs. The work was not sloppy though there were a couple spots where they used multiple smaller sheets of bitumen instead of a single long one like they did in other places across the roof, so we have some extra seams here and there. They improved the flashing from the previous job and did clean work on the tiling around the edges. The issue we ran into when it started raining is that there is now a somewhat large depression by the drain area where maybe a half inch to and inch of water collects into a puddle and doesn't drain on the lower roof. The area doesn't get a lot of sun so the puddle will stay there for up to a week. The roof also doubles as a deck and we have planters that we water, so any runoff from that also collects in the depression. Because of this, that area of the roof is already showing considerably more wear than the rest and we are concerned this could be an easy place for a leak to form down the road. Unfortunately their customer service and responsiveness does not live up to their work or warranty. We wanted them come back and take a look and let us know if anything could be done to slope that part of the roof properly so it would drain better. After leaving messages and sending emails for over 2 months we have not heard back from them as to if they could come by and let us know what could be done about this. Having spent more than $10k with their company I don't think its too much to ask to swing by for 10 minutes and see what can be done. As a business owner, I know the value of follow up and returning client's correspondence when they have an issue with the work you've done for them. Overall decent work, poor customer service.
Description of Work: Replaced both the lower and upper flat rooftops on my split-level house. They removed all the old roofing and laid down new roofing material. They put new flashing around the edges and installed new tile all around as well. The upper roof was completed this July while the lower roof was completed in October 2010. Each came with a 7 Year warranty.

Bill was extremely responsive via phone. He came out two days after we called to give my husband an estimate. Their price was comparable to the other quotes we received but he also pointed out another potential future problem of improperly installed skylights with cracking seals that neither of the other roofers noticed/mentioned to us. Knowing we were on a budget, he gave us two options for repair and went above and beyond in helping us address the issue for as little $ as possible. We also thought it was pretty great that Bill printed out a formal quote in his truck right after the inspection. Most importantly, none of other roofers would guarantee their work--Shea did. We scheduled the repairs for a few days later. The 2 man crew arrived on time, worked quickly, cleaned up after themselves and the work was well done. We had been told that Bill's brother would be onsite as well, but the crew arrived and began working without him. They managed themselves fine on their own, so we didn't see that as an issue as this was a pretty small job. It was a little strange that the crew left after the job was done without saying anything to my husband who was home at the time. But, Bill showed up shortly thereafter to review the job with him to make sure we were satisfied. This is the only reason for the "B" rating I gave for "Professionalism." Overall, they did an excellent job.
Description of Work: We had a small roof leak that occured where a steep slope of our original roof meets the nearly flat roof of the extension that the previous owner added 8 years ago. We had called 3 roofers we found on Angie's List that had A ratings. One never called us back, two came out and gave us quotes. Then our neighbors insisted we reach out to Shea Roofing, whom they've used many times for a few different homes. Although they had a B rating on Angie's List, we reached out to them to get a 3rd quote.

The process was daunting, but manageable due to the expertise, responsiveness and professionalism of Shea brothers. They supervised closely, checked in with us frequently , and handled the collateral damage (which was inevitable with a hundred year old house) with efficiency and ease. The price was still better than most, but if I had gone with the "cheap guys" I doubt they would have taken responsibility for fixing cracks in my laundry room from the pounding, etc etc. Go with these guys, you won't be sorry.
Description of Work: We had 4 roofs removed from a 1905 house, guesthouse and garage. In the process we had new wood flat roof put over an open arbor area that was attached to the roof.

The project went smoothly from start to finish and I would recommend Shea to anyone looking for roofing work. I 'interviewed' 4 roofing companies for the work to be done. Bill was responsive and professional during his visit/consultation. His price was in line with other roofers. Overall, the quality of the actual roofing work appears to be quite good. We haven't had significant rains, so I cannot say for sure that I have a leak-less roof, though I am confident it will not leak. The good: Punctual, professional, and generally did a very good job under the circumstances. "Under the circumstances" means that the work happened to occur during three of the windiest days of the year, and the winds can be downright obnoxious here. His crew was cognizant of debris which blew into the neighbor's yard and appoached me regarding their concern about getting approved access to do cleanup over there. I did not have to ask them to do this - kudos. Looking back, all of the work crews were easy to talk to and work with. Our backyard was cleaned up very well considering the gusty winds. Workmanship of the roof appears quite good. The new dormer vents were placed exactly where I wanted them, the new flashing around the chimney appears well done, they resolved working around the satellite dish and electrical main well, and generally, I have no complaints about the roof. They did a good job putting the new roof up and replacing wood where needed. I have only three 'complaints' about the work: 1) we found 9 nails in the driveway after the work was completed. I was hoping for better in this regard 2) a shingle segment flew off the roof and nearly hit our neighbor following day 2 of work. I called and left a message to have someone come out and make sure everything was secured ok for the night, but did not receive a call back. It is quite likely no one could come out to the roof at night due to safety concerns, but still, no call back 3) the work took 1/2 day longer than promised. 1 & 2 above irked me, but #3 was no big deal because we were not on a tight timeline. All in all, I would give Shea an A-.

A very unusual and severe wind storm had damaged many roofs in my area on Dec 1, so all roofers were very busy. I first called the company that had installed a new roof on my house three years before, but they never returned my voice mail and it took a week of calling to reach them. So I tried Shea Roofing on the basis of advertising received by mail and favorable reports on Angies List. They were busy too, but they answered the phone on my first try and immediately gave me an appointment with an estimator for 6 days later, Dec 21. The estimator arrived as scheduled; no one was home, but he left a well-written printed proposal along with information about the company (including licensing, endorsements and workers comp insurance certificate). However, I had difficulty reaching the company to discuss the proposal for more than a week after that. Again, nobody returned my voice mails. Bill Shea called me on Dec 29. I had questions about how well the new shingles would match, since the exact model of the existing shingles had been discontinued by the manufacturer. He was very familiar with the product line and told me which current model is the best match, which turned out to be excellent. I was also concerned about the $350 price, since only a very quick repair was needed (I had already repaired the plywood underlying the shingles and put in a temporary patch while awaiting the professional repair). Bill explained that this is their minimum charge, needed to cover fixed costs like insurance. I asked if he could include a couple of bundles of spare shingles in case I need them in the future (worth about $40 per bundle), and he agreed. He said that they could do the work the next day, which was fine with me. A crew of two arrived at 10:55 on Dec 30. One of them replaced the 5 damaged shingles while the other re-sealed vent pipes and flashings. They were finished by 11:35. They left a complete bundle of new shingles plus the remainder of the bundle used for the repair. The roof looks great, and it's very hard to tell which shingles were replaced. While $350 seems like a lot for less than 1.5 person-hours of work, the price that I got from the other company was much higher and I did get some spare shingles, so under the circumstances it seems pretty reasonable. The company is a family business and appears to be very well run and professional.
Description of Work: I needed a small repair to my roof due to a wind storm. A flying piece of a tree had punched a 2-inch hole and damaged 3 additional shingles. A team from Shea Roofing replaced the damaged shingles and performed routine maintenance by re-sealing vent pipes and flashings.

I contacted about 5 or 6 companies, and I found Shea Roofing through a friend of mine. Bill Shea is the owner. They were good and had great references. They came out right away and were very conscientious. They even found a structural flaw in the roof that they fixed. They did a real good job at a reasonable price, so I would recommend them to anybody. I would rate them highly and would certainly use them again in the future if necessary.

They were fabulous. They are pricy but you get what you pay for. They were in and out of my house in 2 days and they left it spotless every day. I chose a better than the normal quality of shingle. Although I will not know for sure if we have resolved my problems until we have a good rain, I have to say I was very happy with the work the company did. They have given me a 10 year guarantee in case there are problems. Following are some areas in which I think the company did very well. During the roofing job, the foreman, Eddy, discovered that the existing tiles were not correctly spaced. They were spread out, probably during the poor re-roofing job 7 years ago. They also discovered only one layer of tar paper under the tiles. The previous contractor had said he was putting two layers on. The company ended up replacing a considerable number of tiles. The exact tiles were not available since the roof is 30 years old. We originally discussed putting the replacement tiles on the back of the house, but Bill's brother and the foreman came up with the idea to replace the tiles on a small section of the roof that was visually separated from the rest of the roof. They discussed this with me. This was a great solution. There also was no additional charge for the greater number of tiles that needed to be replaced. Bill had no objections to pulling a permit for the job, which I thought was important given the quality of the previous job. The job site was thoroughly cleaned at the end of the day. There was a considerable number of work hours put into the roof. Although I was not present during the entire job, when I was there, there were 4-5 guys working and they worked for 6 days plus part of the seventh. I felt they took their time, taking the necessary measures to make sure the roof was properly installed this time. I would definitely recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: I have a 50 year concrete shingle roof that was installed in 1981, when the house was built. I purchased the house in 1994. I have had a chronic leak in the garage, that probably existed since the house was built. Approximately seven years ago I had the tiles reset, at the suggestion of the contractor who said there was inadequate paper under the roof. This did not solve the problem with the leak in the garage and, during the bad rains last year, I had leaks in my family room and master bedroom. This work was done by a contractor, who moved to Big Bear shortly after doing the work. Bill Shea, of Shea Roofing, came out to give me an estimate. We discussed the problems I had with the roof. He explained what he would do to fix the roof and his logic behind these suggestions. He also noticed that the builder had used plywood, rather than ship lap, under the eaves. He suggested the plywood be replaced with ship lap to give the house a more finished look, especially on the over hang over the front porch. He reset the entire roof with new tar paper, opened the valley above the garage to allow drainage of that problem area, and replaced all wood under the eaves with ship lap. They also pre-painted the ship lap.

These guys were great. First, Bill Shea came out to give me an estimate. He explained the various problems, and pointed out one area that I could probably wait to have repaired if I didn't want to pay to have it fixed right now. I thought that was very fair of him, but I chose to do the entire job. We scheduled the repair for several days away, and when I realized that it was going to rain again before they could get there, I called the office and asked if someone could come and throw a tarp over the skylight so it wouldn't leak. Bill came by the next day and took care of it. They did the work fast, they did a great job and cleaned up after themselves, and the cost was exactly the estimate that he gave me.

First there was a guy named Bill. He was very nice and gave us a fair price after going on top of our roof. When the actual day was scheduled we had some other dude come over. Those people were 2 1/2 hrs. late. Expect that he will call you George no matter what your name is. He send a couple of people on our roof and none of them spoke a single word of English. He told me something about a check and a power cable while he was walking away. Nothing about how long it will take or if there might be other issues. While he was walking away he yelled something about his coworker but then he was already gone. They really suck in the customer service department. When his guys on my roof took of they didn't care to say goodbye or anything. Just a very anoying company to deal with. My tip: AVOID!

Jeff had come over to give the estimate for the roofing job. When I called for the actual contract, Bill Shea, the owner, faxed me the contract. The contract had a few omissions ? some of the work that Jeff had mentioned that would be done wasn?t in the faxed contract. After a few conversations with Bill Shea and some modifications made to the contract, I signed the contract. The removal of the old roof was subcontracted to Western Tear-off and Disposal company. There is an AC/heating package unit that sits on top of the house roof which had to be disconnected for the roofing job, and Bill Shea had recommended an AC contractor for that job. The AC contractor had also come by to disconnect the ducts, electrical wiring, and the flexible gas line from the unit. After that, Ken Shea (Bill Shea?s brother), and his helpers ? Louie and Jaime ? worked on the house and garage roofs, and were done in about 5 days. The new roof looked pretty good. But then, after a few months, we were hit by a rain storm, and the garage roof started leaking. LEAK #1 - I called Ken Shea. He came over after a few days to take a look at it. He said that one of the edges of a Bitumen sheet wasn?t sealed properly and he fixed the problem. I also mentioned to him that pools of water form on the roofs after it rains and he said that flat roofs usually have that problem because of no slope. A leak in a new roof is bad enough, but the rain water pooling on the roofs makes the problem worse because the leak drips water for days even after it stops raining. LEAK #2 - A few months after that, we got another leak from a different place of the garage roof. I called Shea Roofing again. After a few days, Bill Shea came over and caulked some cracks on the stucco near the corner of the garage roof. LEAK #3 - A few months after that ? another leak from yet another part of the garage roof after the rains. I actually climbed on the roof to figure out where the water was leaking from and found a tear in the seam between two of the Bitumen sheets. Ken Shea came over after a few days and I told him what I had seen. This time he was up there for quite some time. When he came down he told me that he had inspected the roof, fixed the problem I had mentioned, and then took apart and sealed a few more seams that he thought could have been a problem in the future. I told Ken that if the roofs leak again, I will call him again. No more leaks after Ken?s last visit. Hopefully it stays that way. I have a 7-year warranty on the roofs, and they do honor their warranty by coming over to fix the leaks, but it sure is a cause for concern when a new roof leaks ? multiple times.
Description of Work: Shea roofing installed new modified Bitumen roofing on the flat roofs of the house and attached garage.

Bob came by and talked me through and gave me a bid. I got a competitive bid - he matched it there abouts and then they came on time, did the job, cleaned up and left the same day - very polite, respectful.
Description of Work: Installed three skylights, two solar powered extractor fans and replaced all of the ridge-line tiles that were curling up.
