My neighbor recommended McPherson Bamboo to me. The owner gave me a quote for the dining room and the entry hall and the hallway. The work in the dining room presented a challenge because I have a rock fireplace in that room that had to be dealt with. I also had slate which had to be removed from the entry way. I was very pleased with the outcome. Some time later I had the company do two of my bedrooms, and once again everything went very well These gentlemen work very efficiently. Now, the living room is completed and it was a little bit of a challenge as, once again, a small part the new floor had to be installed around the rock fireplace and the bamboo had to be laid in coordination with the bamboo already down in the dining room.
Description of Work: This company has installed lovely Bamboo floors in my home over a period of several years. The owner and the other gentlemen associated with him are courteous, pleasant, and dependable. Most important: the quality of the Bamboo and the quality of the work are outstanding. They all absolutely know what they are doing and they do it very, very well. It is a pleasure to have them in my home.

We called Mike and I chatted with him for a bit and described our small project : remove carpets from 3 closest and match existing bamboo. We had a box of bamboo left over so Mike made sure to purchase additional material that was identical. Usually this results in a total mess but it went off without a hitch. As Mike was very busy and it was a small job, he asked me to send photos to him via email, which I did. The installer (Chris) came out to check out the job site and once he saw he could complete all the work in one sitting he started immediately. The work quality is very solid. Craftsmanship is excellent. We are really happy with the work and professionalism shown throughout the job. Mike fit us in around our hectic schedule and his availability. Cheers!

We found Michael McPherson and his team's work excellent and we plan on using him again to repair and resurface our 50 year old original cork floors. On this job, extending and restaining parquet floors, there were several difficult and unexpected problems to solve. None involved the precision with which they exactly matched the original hand cut floor tiles with red and white oak so that the stain would take evenly or when they laid the new floor down and made sure there was a seamless transition between the old and the new. However, staining hard oak the dark color we requested with uniform saturation was extremely difficult. It required much repeated sanding and testing. And even after all that preparation, when an area did not come out exactly as planned, there was never any hesitancy by Mike or his team to re do it until it was all perfect. We greatly appreciate this kind of attention to detailed craftsmanship Michael supplies. Home renovation involves much unpredictability and having craftsman who will work and bend with the arising needs of the project are hard to come by. We are genuinely pleased with the results and the effort Mike took to get us there.

Michael McPherson was on time to our appointment to give me an estimate. I showed him a couple of bad gouges that the previous tenants' moving company made removing a sofa from the apartment. I told him I wanted to be sure that the floors in the areas being redone, matched the remaining hardwood floors of this high end apartment. When I came to check out the job to be sure it was completed to my standards, I was disappointed to see a color difference in the areas that needed a heavy sanding to remove the gouges. I was not happy so I called the office. They sent Alfonzo Perez to meet me at the apartment the following morning at 8am. He was waiting for me when I arrived. He agreed with me and said he would send another crew the next day. Alfonzo then called me that afternoon and said that due to the age of the building (1910) that the wood of the floors had darkened and that they would need to sand and refinish all of the hardwood of the 900 sq. ft. apartment. At this point Alfonzo said he would to the work himself. They did this with no extra charges and the floors ended up looking beautiful. I was very happy with the end result and that they never once mentioned to charge me more. They were more interested in me being a satisfied customer. I am a very satisfied customer.
Description of Work: Originally the job was to sand and refinish a stairway landing, hallway, and dining room. End product included them doing all the hardwood floors in the entire apartment.

McPherson is the owner of the company. They were very good. They showed up on time. They did a great job of putting in the floors. They listened to me and they were patient with me as I was changing my mind with the choice of colors. They made me feel comfortable with what I had chosen. They really helped me. They were very good people. I really enjoyed working with them. I would definitely use them again in the future.

They were fantastic, and they went above and beyond what was expected of them. We just went through a major remodel, and we came across situations that we did not expect, and they had solutions for all of the problems we encountered. There was nothing that we disliked about them. They were always on time. When they encountered an issue that required an additional fee, they seemed very reasonable. I think their price was very fair. We would recommend them to others and would use them again in the future if necessary.

My hardwood floor was very damaged in a few areas (urine stains from a pet), but otherwise in very good shape. I was hoping to avoid an entire new floor, and just replace the damaged areas, but didn't think that would be possible. Mike suggested that, since the flooring was already so thin, he could replace the bad areas, sand down the rest of the floor as much as possible and cover everything with new hardwood. This worked out great - because the floor did not have to be ripped out and disposed of, there was much less time involved, not to mention noise and dust. I now have an entire new floor for almost $2,000 less than other quotes. Chris & Alonzo did the whole job in three days, and were thoroughly professional and pleasant. They moved all the furniture very carefully and placed (or replaced) the felt pads on EVERYTHING, and cleaned up after themselves completely every day. The floor looks fantastic, as does the newly painted base. When they moved the washer/dryer unit, they discovered a small leak which they brought to my attention immediately. I thought I might have to stop work on the floor to accommodate the plumber, but Chris and Alonzo managed to work around him very well!. Mike's carpet guy was also prompt, professional and friendly and took care to get the transition spaces from the hardwood hallways to the carpeted bedrooms entirely stapled down and smoothed out. I would unequivocally recommend Mike, Chris and Alonzo for any work on hardwood flooring.

On the first day of work, Mike and his crew, Chris & Alfonso showed up on time, removed carpeting and old laminate flooring. As they moved furniture around, they put felt on the bottom of it so it wouldn't damage the new floors. They were very conscientious in leveling the floor where needed. The installation on subsequent days went well-they showed up & completed the work very professionally. Chris went above & beyond in making a jig for cutting the flooring to accommodate the drain hole in the laundry room. One could not ask for more attention to detail and concern for addressing any problems that came up. I highly recommend McPhereson and would use them again without any reservations.
Description of Work: I hired McPhereson Hardwood to supply & install bamboo flooring to the main level of my house. Mike was very helpful in suggesting the type & shade that would work best with my puppy (the fur hardly shows against the floor).

We decided to replace our carpet downstairs with a beautiful Brazilian Cherry hardwood floor. Mike and the crew from Bamboo 2000/McPherson Hardwood arrived and started pulling up the carpet while I went to work. About an hour later, Mike called to advise me of a unforeseen moisture issue. The south wall of my house serves as a border between my property and my neighbors, and that was where the moisture was. Mike told me he couldn’t begin putting the floor down with the existing moisture and asked me to come back to the house. When I got home, I found Mike at my neighbor’s house explaining the problem. Evidently, they had violated a city code by adding dirt to their landscape up against my wall, not leaving the required clearance. I had no way of knowing this because there is no visibility from my yard to that spot. Besides, I didn’t even know there was such a code, or its importance. Mike was able to explain to them that the dirt being up against my wall like that would cause damage to the new floor, and possibly cause mold issues as well. Luckily, they understood the problem and agreed to have the dirt lowered to its required level. Mike even expedited that procedure as he has seen this type of problem before and recommended someone to them for that job. It took about a week for that problem to be corrected, then they started work back on my floors. It was a two day process, the first day was spent grinding my concrete slab and then a moisture barrier was put down. The crew returned the next day to lay the actual wood. The floor came out perfectly and Mike gave me some tips on keeping it that way. What really was irreplaceable thou was the problem detection and solving. The ability to go above and beyond really means a lot. By alerting me to the problem, his schedule had to change and I’m sure it cost him a lot of headaches. I don’t think all contractors would handle things the same way, the right way. Had this moisture issue not been addressed, they tell me the wood would have warped fairly soon, ruining the new floor. I look at contractors the same way I look at mechanics, if you can find one you trust it makes your life so much easier. The guys are Bamboo 2000/McPherson Hardwood have proven to me they are worthy of trust, they will do all my future work and I strongly recommend them to everyone!

mike did an excellent job for us. truly. he totally invested himself in helping us find the right floor for us. he totally got all our concerns about keeping it green and clean chemically. he was knowledgeable and generous with his time. his floors came out fantastically and he had some weird specific challenges posed by our rooms that he worked around very well. he was flexible and always reachable, even came in one day on a moment's notice to help us out. ultimately we spent more than we wanted to bc we chose much pricier floors than we had intended and also he had to work more than expected to deal with some particulars and so things kept adding up but that was really not his fault in any way. overall a fantastic experience and i would send everyone and anyone to mike. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

My husband and I decided after much research on hardwood floors to choose strand woven bamboo for our remodel project. I found Bamboo 2000 through Angie's list and the reviews were really positive. Compared to other bids and other contractors/project managers, Mike and Chris knew quite a ton more about bamboo. Their years of working with bamboo and their knowledge of bamboo were very sound as I asked a grip of questions. Mike has even traveled to China to learn the manufacturing process of bamboo. Many contractors previously were not "specialized" in bamboo persay. They definitely SPECIALIZE and know bamboo! When I first called Mike, he was in Germany. He was prompt in getting back to me inspite of being overseas. He sent Chris to do a bid and Chris had a lot of expertise as well. In spite of wanting to work with Mike and Chris, I set up the proejct with another contractor due to the time constraint we had and a fairly good bottom line price. A few days before that project, they brought over the bamboo. My husband and I found it was the WRONG shade and so we ended up cancelling the project and returning their bamboo to them. The company did not have the desired color and would not have that shade for awhile. Quite frustrating! At that point, Mike was back in the country and could begin work on our place. After explaining what happened with the previous contractor, Mike was really attentive and set out to do research to make sure we received the right bamboo. He did an excellent job researching and working within our price range to find what we were looking for. They worked out a great price with my husband and I. They were very careful to itemize their quote of services and products, so I could see where their bottom line number was coming from. They described in detail how they would install the floors. It helped that they were the general contractors and so they definitely could tell me exactly what they would do. There was no subcontracted crew - it was Mike setting up the project and Mike and Chris doing the actual project. They were very meticulous with the details and did not cut corners. They were very conscientious of our neighbors (though one was pretty angry at them, they handled it well). They worked efficiently and were helpful in moving our furniture. They even took time to put on the felt piece on the legs of ALL of our furniture for those rooms. I was impressed that at the end of it all, Mike showed a lot of integrity with his work. He did not shop for the lowest quality bamboo, but took price and quality into consideration. He was pretty upfront with things that were out of his control, i.e. the time it would take to prep the concrete, the specific shade MAY not be perfectly what i envision it (though it ended up being awesome), etc. Ultimately, Mike and Chris were extremely professional and personable throughout the whole process. They were really friendly. My husband and I really had fun chatting it up with them too! They are really funny, lighthearted guys! During the process, they even brought in a contractor who works with carpet to be sure to install the best looking transitions between our bamboo floors and the carpet. Smart move! Their carpet guy was also professional and did a fabulous job. The project spanned 4 days, which turned out just fine. We ended up having to cut one of their work days short because we had an event at our place. They were willing to work with us and finished the floors in time for the event. They returned the next day to finish out the transitions and base shoes. When they job was finished, as I mentioned, they helped us set up our furniture with proper protection. They talked to us about maintenance of the floors and they were just all around really comprehensive with what they did and what they communicated to us. Ihad lots of questions during the project and they didn't seem to mind at all. The only slight setback was with punctuality in the mornings, but it was really minor and it worked out better in the end for us. A week has passed. We are SO happy with our floors. They are beautiful! They really make our space feel larger and the space is really opened up. We're so thankful we went with strand woven bamboo. Having a dog, we really wanted something that would stand up to some pet wear-and-tear.The strand woven bamboo definitely holds up tough as nails and the finish is amazing. I recommend strand woven completely. We had a carbonized light shade and it worked with our darker espresso furniture and light green walls. Grateful for Bamboo2000!
Description of Work: Mike from Bamboo2000 purchased, researched and installed strand woven bamboo floors in our home. Our main concern was we wanted floors that would last, would be a smart investment and would not entirely get scratched up from our dog. We had our living room, dining area and hallways redone. We live in a 3rd floor condo and needed to have a cork floor installed as a proper sound layer. They completed the job with white base shoes and bamboo transitions. The job took roughly 4 days.

It went great! Mike and his crew always showed up on time and did exactly what they said they would do. Mike was concerned about our floors being so old that they didn't have much sanding left in them, so he was really careful about not being too aggressive on the sanding. He patched the spot where the furnace grill was with some old pieces of flooring we had left from another project and it blends perfectly, You can't even tell it was there. His crew, Alphonso and Chris, were friendly and polite. They cleaned up every day. Mike really knows what he is doing. The finish is beautiful and I highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Mike sanded and refinished the oak floors in our living room -- approximately 300 sq. ft. He also patched a 1.5' x 2" area where an old furnace floor grill used to be.

Everything went really well. They had 3 days to install 1100 sq. ft of flooring because of our move-in schedule. They did it in the 3 days, and at a very high quality. Since we were pleased with the flooring, we asked them to do the molding throughout the house.
Description of Work: Brazilian Walnut solid hardwood flooring was installed throughout the house except for the bedrooms & bathrooms (raised foundation house). In the sun room, plywood was glued down to the concrete, and the hardwood was nailed to that. They also installed all the molding along the floors and the molding around the pocket doors.

Mike, the owner, arrived on time. Was always easy to get a hold of and I never had to wait long to make an appointment. When we sopke on the phone I told him about the cupping in two of the rooms and he said he'd check it out to see if there might still be moisture under the boards before doing the work. He arrived, checked out the job, pulled up part of a board (which he replaced when he refinished the floors) and determined there was no moisture. His workmen arrived when they said they would and he was even able to accomodate a last minute change and be done on time (after seeing the floors stripped and natural I decided I wanted them stained). The price above includes the staining. He was always pleasant. I called several times with questions and comments and he almost always answered immediately. When I had to leave voicemail, he called me back very soon after. I will definitley call him back if I need work done in the future.

We called Mike and mentioned we found his name on Angie's List. He is familiar with Angie's List, and I could tell he really cared about keeping his superior record intact. In fact, he did everything he said he would do, and the results are fabulous! He was extremely punctual and was wonderful about staying in touch and keeping us informed about the progress of the job. The people he uses to help him with his work are also first rate, and we, at all times, felt we were dealing with professionals, who between them, have many years of experience working with hardwood floors. It is having such positive experiences such as this that keeps me coming back to Angie's list.
Description of Work: Mike sanded and finished our oak floors with 2 coats of sealer and 2 coats of Bona "Traffic".... He also trowel filled the entire floor to make sure, when finished, the floors would look their best, which they now do. In fact, they've never looked so good.

Michael McPherson was very helpful and knowledgeable about all the flooring choices and helped me decide on the walnut- the color and texture go perfectly with my decor. He was great with dealing with my home owners association because he was very familiar with the sound barriers that needed to be installed under the flooring. He used a thicker cork than required because he then sanded the high spots down to level the floor. I am really happy with the results. Michael is a very personable guy and made this experience go as smoothly as can be- always courteous and prompt.

Met through work he was doing for a neighbor, and the neighbors recommendation. Mike was very professional, always on time when he said he would be somewhere, worked long hours and got the job done fast and thoroughly, and was generally reliable and easy to work with. Very conscientious about making sure the job was done well and that we were happy with it. The process took a bit over a week, I believe, from the original time of the estimate, and mostly was done by Mike by himself, but others were brought in for some of the days (two other flooring guys and an electrician).
Description of Work: Refinished ca 1949 oak flooring (the entire house except for the kitchen), replaced flooring fairly extensively in the dining room where the previous owner's dog had done unmentionable things to it, and filled in an area where a floor furnace had been taken out. Replaced flooring was taken from closets so it would match the other wood (in fact, it's pretty much impossible to tell where wood was grafted in). Two coats of semi-gloss finish. Replaced door lintel and added nice wood reducers where the floor abuts the kitchen.

Mike was very professional throughout. I feel comfortable using him again. He really seems to care about getting the job done right, but at the same time, won't try to upsell you (in my case, to replacing the whole floor(s)). At first, I was going to just do one coat of poly, but after starting, Mike really felt like a second coat would be necessary, and I agreed to pay $200 more. He also felt that the front room was so worn down that it needed an oil based third coat and he did that for free. Two weeks later, the floors look terrific and I think he did a great job. (Note: as a rule, I do NOT give the usual Angie's List "Gentleman's A's". Please don't read my relatively poor grades as a knock against the service provider.)
Description of Work: Repaired two oak hardwood pieces that had bowed up and out of the floor (milled the pieces to fit and glued down), screened and coated 500sqft of old hardwood flooring in three rooms and one hallway. Two coats of Bona Traffic satin finish - one coat of an oil based polyurethane in the worst worn spots (for free).

I was referred to him by my plumber Michael Gerace. He came by quickly to give me a quote for preparation of floor and installation of hardwood. His quote was very reasonable. He emailed me later to alert me to a sale on an excellent maple engineered hardwood available only to contractors. He knew what kind of hardwood I was looking for and got me something even better than I was looking for at an incredible price. This process built a relationship and got him the job. Michael McPherson and his crew came in to get rid of the carpet and prepare the floor. Our floor was very uneven and had a lot of squeaks. He did not give me an exact price for the preparation work because he said it was impossible to determine what he had to do until the carpet was ripped out. But, he said he would be fair. He spent several days preparing the floor and they charged me a very reasonable amount to do so--basically less than $200 per day per person. They were meticulous. They took out several floor boards and replaced them and pour floor straightening liquids. Although this part of the work was not specified in the contract, Michael was very reasonable. When it was time to install the floor, the crew came in with great work ethics and attitude. One of his crew members jokingly said: "while I'm on this job, this is my house. I will treat this job like this is my house." When I ask them about something, he would always say, "of course, do you think I would do anything less for my house?" They were great and fun to work with. They did a great job particularly around the difficult areas. They had the highest standard and worked their craft like artists. The job took longer than they expected because they took the time to do it right. I highly recommend Michael to anyone who would like to do hardwood.
Description of Work: Preparation of floor for hardwood installation and hardwood installation for most of our home. Our home is fairly large. Cost of hardwood separate.

It went great! I am very pleased with my new bamboo wood flooring. I noticed that Mike's last name was misspelled in a previous reviewer's comments, so here is his contact information: Mike McPherson Bamboo 2000 Flooring mikebamboo2000@yahoo.com Phone: (800) 331-1116
Description of Work: Mike McPherson (owner of Bamboo 2000, Inc.) was a godsend. After being burnt by substandard work before, I was thrilled when Mike came out and carefully assessed my flooring issues (which were substantial). He had his hands full with removal of the previous work, correcting a major subfloor inconsistency & installing the new flooring. It looks and feels fantastic!

Due to a major plumbing problem, we had to rip up and replace portions of a large hardwood floor, and therefore had to resurface all of the flooring. Bamboo 2000(aka MC Flooring)did the work as a subcontractor to our plumber, but they worked quite directly with us as homeowners. The work was done more or less on an emergency basis. Michael McPhearson was fast and very concerned with our happiness in the final product. He prepared color samples and even replaced a few boards that were not to my wife's liking. All of this was done in a very friendly and helpful way. These were great individuals, prompt, clean, quality oriented and very knowledgeable. The final cost was about 10% higher than we had originally expected, but only because we needed an additional staining finish to match colors. This was completely reasonable.
Description of Work: Replace about 50 sq ft of hardwood floor and resurface about 600 sq ft of same.
