Initially it did not go well. The worker that they sent out took one look and the floor in the living room and said he couldn't do the work. Problem is that the work was being done in one of the bedrooms. When he looked at the floor in there he again said he couldn't do a thing for us. My husband immediately called the owner and told him how rude and unwilling is employee was. We were not expecting a miracle to be performed. We just wanted them to do what they could with the floors. The owner then sent another gentlemen out to our house. That guys name was Chris. Chris was AWESOME! He took one look at the floor and said he could totally do something to it to make it look better. And that is exactly what he did! He was quick, professional and knew what he was doing. He was very polite as he needed to go in and out of the house. He did an INCREDIBLE job on the floor. It looked brand new when it was done. We were so happy. The only negative to report on the actual work is that the floor is a bit rough. We believe it could have been cleaned up better before it was sealed. It feels like there is dust under sealant (bumpy). We would absolutely recommend this company as long as they send Chris and guys like him out on the jobs.

We had a slab leak (which seems to be a fairly common occurrence in Southern California) and our beautiful hardwood floor was ruined. Fortunately, it was covered by our homeowners insurance, and our insurance company was fine with us using our own contractor. We went with McPherson Hardwood because we have used them twice in the past (they installed the original floor) and they left a lasting impression. This time they removed the damaged floor, and installed the new one with all the transitions and moldings. It was the same drill this time around, the work was done quickly, in the time estimated, and it came out perfectly. They were able to get it done within the budget of my insurance settlement, and the guys were easy to deal with, very professional and friendly.

I have now had two great experiences with Michael McPherson and Bamboo 2000. In about 2004, Mike put bamboo floors in 3 large rooms of our home and stairs going to the lower level. The floors of my living and dining rooms had lots of leveling problems due to a fire in that portion of the house prior to us owning it. He dealt with this effortlessly and we have never had a problem. The floors are still beautiful and we love them. They really make our modern house look spectacular. Mike recommended I put bamboo on the stairs and am I ever glad. Had we left carpet there, the impact of our house would be greatly diminished, plus it would be an on-going cleaning problem. We have stone tiles at the base of our fireplace, maybe slate. Instead of butting the bamboo up against them and adding a ¼ round, Mike suggested and took the extra step to trim the tile and put the bamboo under the tile. It is a detail like this that I would not have thought of, but enhances the look dramatically. It was an imaginative and clever solution to something I didn?t realize was a problem. He didn?t charge us extra ? he just did it and did it perfectly. I called Mike back because we had a termite problem a corner of the dining room (where the roof had leaked). The termites ate up through the plywood and then partially out one bamboo board. My termite guy said it was due to moisture. Mike came in, neatly removed some of the bamboo so we could get to the plywood with the problem so the termite exterminator could treat it. Afterwards, Mike replaced that area with new bamboo. The standard width of the boards has changed since our original installation, so milling was involved. Beautiful job and the price was more than fair. I may get my husband?s office done with strand bamboo and will certainly give Mike a call. I like these guys and am very comfortable having them in our home. I have only had 2 companies do major work on the house that I can recommend completely without reservation ? Bamboo 2000 is one of them and our stucco guy is the other.

I had one of my two bedroom floors sanded and refinished under a Big Deal, and was very satisfied with both the work and the service. Wow, what a difference! The Big Deal included up to 100 sq. ft of flooring and two coats of sealer/finish, and specified the cost for any additional square footage (which was a courteous touch). The house was built in 1950, and the bedroom floors had the original [dark, chipped and worn] finish. Because the previous owners had added travertine tiles to the hallway, there was a ¾? step-down into the bedroom. Mike came out in advance and surveyed the room. We agreed they?d sand the floor and closet, do two coats of finish, and (for a slightly extra cost) add a transition between the hallway, and the bedroom. My room was slightly larger than the Big Deal covered, so we agreed on the additional cost. We also agreed that I would remove and replace the shoe molding around the room, so I could replace/repaint it as I chose (I?m fairly handy). I mentioned I hoped to have it done over an upcoming three-day weekend. At first Mike indicated that Saturdays were iffy, but all of a sudden on a Thursday, he emailed me that they?d like to do the work that Saturday. This gave me just two evenings to clear the room and remove the shoe molding, but I got it done. On that Saturday, Chris came by. He sanded the floor, then put two coats of finish on the floor, with a bit of drying time between. He used a waterbased finish because of California VOC laws. The plan was for all their work to be finished on one day. Although the floor was old, there were no stains or spots, so it didn?t need any repairs. The next day, when the finish had a chance to dry, I realized the grain of the wood had raised, giving a rough surface. This sometimes happens with waterbased finishes. I called Mike to alert him the floor needed to be lightly resanded and another coat of finish applied. He assured me he would fix the problem at no additional cost to me. Mike was true to his word: the installer he sent out not only resanded the floor lightly, but gave it another damp swipe to raise any grain that hadn?t surfaced earlier. He sanded again, and put a nice coat of finish. I let it dry, and it looks and feels wonderful and beautiful. I didn?t have the floor stained, so I wouldn?t have to worry about matching it to the other bedroom later. The clear finish turned out to be just perfect, since the floor was red oak and has its own warmth. I would add that Mike seems to be most accessible via text/email. He responded much faster to those messages than to voicemail calls.

The Service provided Bamboo 2000 was great, they came out promptly and showed me that my floors were too thin and damaged to be refinished properly. They recommended that I get a refund on the Big Deal or use the funds as credit on new floors they could install. I choose to request a refund.

Mr McPherson contacted me promptly and his associate Alfonso came to assess the job and then Mr McPherson called me later that afternoon and emailed me an estimate. Communication was prompt and clear. I ended up not getting the work done since the final estimate for the work was significantly higher than the big deal $ amount and certainly higher than what I had anticipated.

I was contacted by the owner who sent over one of his people to look at my floor. I set up a week for the service, was told by him that I would receive a call from the owner in 10 minutes. I NEVER RECEIVED THE CALL. A month later, I contacted Angie's List to get my money back and complain. The woman I talked to talked me into giving them another chance. She requested that he contact me by the end of the next business day (he had two days to call). HE NEVER CONTACTED ME. On top of this, the person he sent over asked me PERSONAL QUESTIONS about "my children and husband," which had nothing to do with the service. As a single woman, I was very uncomfortable. He also told me what the owner had said about me--that I was angry or difficult or something like that, because the owner had set up a time to call and when he finally did (at the last minute) I complained that he had not called when he said he would. I have to say that I have been greatly pleased with Angie's List until this. I am furious.

Response from Bamboo 2000 / McPherson Hardwood
When I talked to the customer, she made it very clear, that she did not want somebody to come to her house, who spoke English as a second language. It came across very strange, but I told her that my employee had worked with me for a long time and spoke good English. While he was at her house to measure for the estimate, she started yelling at him after he let her know that I would have to be the one to talk to for a final price and that he was not able to give her an estimate right away. He called me back after leaving and told me what happened. I knew at that point, that I would not feel comfortable working for her. I called the representative at Angie's List, who was in charge of "The Big Deal" and told him what happened and that I did not feel comfortable calling the customer back after she reacted that way towards my employee.

I wish [member name removed] would have called or emailed at least once before posting. I am sorry that I did not get back with her again as of yet. I have 25 new customers through the "Big Deal" all of which want to wait till the begining of the year. If she would have called one time I am sure that an appointment would have been made.

Mike the owner called me right away to schedule one of his employees to come and look at the job. Chris came out and we discussed the work. We schedule the job and they arrived on time and did the floors. The sanding caused minimal dust much to my surprise. I do wish I had covered my cabinets with plastic to prevent the little dust particles from going in but it was not as much as I thought. The floor looks like new after 25 years of wear and tear. I wish I had done it sooner and I would recommend McPherson Hardwood even it you do not get a deal his prices are fair.

We used this contractor to put in hardwood flooring on our ground floor about two years ago. We were very pleased with the experience and it was a no brainer to call them again for some additional work. This time, they refinished the oak flooring upstairs that was here when we bought the house and looking very worn. I expected some improvement, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much better it looked! Then, they replaced the carpeted stairs with hardwood to match the downstairs wood they had installed in 2011. The whole job came out beautifully and was done in a timely and professional matter. They are very straight forward, not a lot of ups & extras, both times I have used them, the price quoted is the price I paid. They made it as painless a process as possible and I will continue to use them for all my upgrades & refinishes.

McPherson Hardwood flooring is versatile and flexible in installing imported wood floor that they are not accustom to installing which is great. We went with an eco-friendly and environmentally responsible wood floor company from Canada as our preferred wood floor material. Alfonso was the sole installer for the job. Alfonso was a great wood floor installer and he would be even better if he had someone to assist him on the job. Reason is he struggled with the movement of our stove and refrigerator. He did the best he could but he definitely needs an assistant. He did a few extra's such as removing and re-installing our baseboards which was awesome. One missed item was the quarter rounds in the kitchen which he did not install as promised after the major work was done. I ended up finishing up the quarter rounds myself. Overall I rate this company a "B". An "A" if two men worked and if they followed through with the minor tasks (quarter rounds).

On Saturday May 30th, Mike came to my home to discuss what I wanted and possible options. He took very detailed measurements of each room. He sold me on the bamboo strand flooring since it is harder and will hold up better to my two dogs. He also suggested putting in bamboo toe kicks under the kitchen cabinets which i didn't even know was possible. Out of the 3 companies i had give me estimates, he was the only one to leave me a sample of the flooring which was nice. Over the next couple of days I kept placing it in the different parts of the house to see how it looks. The following Monday, he emailed me a detailed estimate. He broke out the additional cost for the hallway and hallway closets. I appreciated being able to see the details. On Wednesday 4/17, the work stared in the afternoon with ripping out all the old carpeting. His crew was very conscientious. We had packed up and moved everything we could out of the area the work was being done. We couldn't move the sectional or left our TV mounted on the way. The worker who started the job, very carefully covered our flat panel TV with plastic and taped it up to prevent any dust getting on the TV. He also covered the sectional. On Thursday 4/18, Chris and Mike replaced the sub-floor in the kitchen and finished prepping the other rooms. On Friday 4/19, Chris started installing the flooring. He was extremely detailed in the work he did. You could tell he took a lot of pride in his work. When he created the toe kicks for the kitchen, before gluing them into place he had me take a looks to make sure the fit was good. Chris finished the main living area and kitchen on Friday. On Saturday 4/20, Chris finished the hallway and hallway closets. Mike came and completed all baseboards and completed the final clean-up. We totally love our new flooring. It looks absolutely fantastic.

Please see my account of the phone conversation above.
Description of Work: This review may sound odd or insignificant to some, but it was important to me and was a great experience. All I had was a phone consultation. I called the number, found here on Angie's List, and I had nearly a 30 minute conversation on the phone. Maybe I was fortunate that the man who answered the phone had the time, but he was patient, fun, informative, not pushy or arrogant. We were both on our computers and I sent him web links to my ideas and materials, which he looked at from his computer. Unfortunately, they were booked with jobs at the time and he said he couldn't commit to mine, which I respect. These days it's hard to find someone who listens and doesn't try to up-sell; or who doesn't talk down to you. Even though I never got to the point where they did my install (I think I'll lay the floor myself), I SO appreciated his kind and enthusiastic phone consultation, that I would go back to them again. I hope this helps some of you.

This job was complicated by a number of factors. There were two phases. The first phase was removal and installation of the new floor. Everything went smoothly until the last day of the job when the toilet overflowed and destroyed about 30% of the project. Workers in the upstairs unit were responsible for clogging the plumbing and damaging the new floor. Besides the expected delay of sorting all of this out with the insurance companies and the upstairs neighbor, the factory was behind on the particular product we used. It took several weeks. Throughout it all, the contractor was patient, understanding and professional throughout. The floor was completed and is beautiful. We are very pleased with the service and the workmanship.

I am extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the materials. I've had plenty of comments about how good the floor looks. The one caveat I will provide is the time it took to complete the job. There workers had some personal issues which caused them to miss half-days or full-days from time to time. In general, the work took longer than I had expected. On the other hand, I had made it quite clear to the company that what I really cared about was the quality of the work and that finishing the job quickly was not a priority at all, so I'm certainly not complaining. Overall, I'm very pleased with the company and would gladly use them again (although I hope I never need to!)
Description of Work: I had all of the floors in my home replaced by the company, with the exception of the bathrooms. Bamboo 2000 removed the existing carpet / linoleum and leveled out the sunken living room (it had had about a 5 inch drop from the hallway - that was a big job.) They installed natural maple flooring in most of the house (about 1200 square feet), and they installed a high-quality vinyl in the kitchen (not something they usually do, but they agreed since they were doing wood in the rest of the house.) They also replaced all of the baseboards.

It started with Chris, he quickly evaluated and measured before I headed off to work. After receiving the estimate, Mike answered all my detailed questions about the process, materials used and labor time and of course cost. He also worked with me to provide other options in case my floors would not be completely salvageable. also the process and labor time of second option. Alfonso, was the man who worked the magic. He explained everything from start to finish, and during the process without me asking. He was also was very helpful in providing me options that would give my home the best results. He informed me of the areas where it was needed to replace the boards, how to fix my floor board from underneath to stop the squeaking. He was easy to work with specially when I wanted additional boards replaced. I was picky about how I wanted things to look and he took it in stride. I sure hope he was not annoyed at me and if he was he never showed it. He was always on time and seamed to skip lunch just to maintain his working groove. He even works on Sundays, if necessary. I will definitely use them again and refer them to anyone.
Description of Work: They were one of the few companies who was willing to sand and repair my floors and most importantly at a reasonable price. My floors definitely needed some love, from worn out boards to rot and holes in other boards. The guys were great. communication was fluid throughout.

I have waited almost a year to write this review. I wanted to let people know how the flooring has worn, and what to expect from this kind of flooring after the installation. I've been curious to see if I would still like them as much as I did when the job was first done. All I can say is that it has been everything and MORE. I have two teenage boys who play sports. The floors have withstood their activities, with beauty and grace...and they even hide the dirt!! They are easy to clean and do not show scratches like other hard wood flooring. However, I believe that is because I chose the strand woven bamboo which is VERY hard. The experience from estimation to completion was a breeze. Michael's crew were professional, timely and clean. When the carpet was pulled up, the sub floor had damage and was uneven. This was unexpected as was damage from a leaky dishwasher. After talking with Michael he was more than fair in his estimate to repair the sub floor and level it. The prep work done before one piece of bamboo was laid was both extensive and thorough!! I felt the prep work that was done laid the foundation for a sound and lasting floor. I LOVE my floors and have gotten several compliments on them - I always recommend Bamboo 2000 when asked who did them. You will not be disappointed in your bamboo floor or with Bamboo 2000!
Description of Work: I had a living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway and 8 stairs installed with strand woven bamboo. This was about 1000 sq ft of flooring. Although Michael's estimate was not the lowest, I felt his was the most complete. Every material item was specified in the bid. While other bids came in lower, they were missing items like the stairs because that was a special item and had to be priced differently depending on how I wanted them done. Or the prep/finish materials and work was not costed out. Bamboo 2000's bid was complete without any "hidden" cost. BTW, the 8 stairs at the entry and into the hallway look fantastic as does the rest of the flooring. It has added a richness to the house that everyone notices when they come through the door.
