The estimator, Gabe, was clear, low-key, and informative, more than any of the 3 other guys who gave me estimates. The job lead, Mario, was wonderful: attentive to detail, thorough, and just a very nice guy. The other guys on the job were also solid craftsmen and did excellent work. The one issue I had was that Gabe over scheduled a bit, and took Mario away from the project part of two days, which ended up extending the process a couple of days past the initial estimate (6 1/2 days versus 4). But the work was meticulously done, the cost was as estimated (and lower than some of my other bids), and overall I'm very, very pleased.
Description of Work: Complete re-pipe of my 1916 two story house, including bringing water in from the street, putting copper upstairs and down, and adding a tankless water heater. Additional work on rationalizing my gas piping. They also removed my old water heater and a sink I was no longer using, and added a line for the ice-maker. They patched all the holes they made and removed all the old galvanized piping. The company also took care of all the arrangements concerning the permitting and the inspection.

The crew was friendly, clean and punctual. They were as quiet as possible and organized. However, we were not warned ahead of time that we would not be able to drink the tap water or use it for dish-washing for a few days. We also had to pursue them by phone for a few days to resolve an issue of (minor) damage to our house. The work was done as promised and we are pleased with the result. The workers generally cleaned up after themselves, but left muddy sidewalks after doing trench work in a light rain.
Description of Work: New water service to main house and rental cottage. New pipes to kitchen and bath for rental cottage. New water heater for rental cottage. New low-flow toilets delivered and installed. New earthquake gas shut-offs.

Great! An incredibly considerate and competent crew did the demolishing. The tub had leaked into the dining room downstairs. They were quick, clean and knowledgeable. Then the plumbing crew came in, same story. I got a whole lesson in overflow drains for antique tubs. They were patient, and seemed to enjoy teaching me, rather than being annoyed. The whole repair turned out to be a family affair and fun. How often can you say that about a plumbing job? They will be converting an existing closet into a bathroom for us in the near future. This has been my best find yet on Angie's List. I'm sure there will be more, as I am a new home owner.

I am very happy with my plumbing service. I have used them many times. I feel they are professional and that they do a wonderful job. They wear booties over their shoes and even lay down runners. When they leave you'd never even know they had been in the house. I would recommend them.

They show up on time and they are really clean. The people that come into the house (without asking them too) put booties over their shoes. They clean up well after themselves. They subcontract the electrical. He did not do a great job with the kitchen faucet cartridge. It doesn't work that well. I don't know if it's the quality of the product or the installation. I don't know if it was his area or not, as he came to install the water heater. Work on the water line for the fridge was great - fixed it quickly.

The NAHMAN plumber wrote down a list of supplies for me to pick up, and gave me detailed instructions on how to finish the job, and left. He must have spent about 2.5 hours, and charged me only for labor, and then, not for the full amount of time he was there. I went to hardware store and picked up the supplies, then got busy. My handyman friend took pity on me and came back to help me finish the job. By 8:30 that evening, it was done. If this had been a modern faucet, it would only have taken a hour or so to do this, but with old homes, anything can happen and anything usually does! This was a frustrating experience, but I appreciated the Nahman plumber taking the time to explain exactly what I needed to do, and in the end, saving me some cash. The plumber was prompt (he came within an hour of my call), and did the best he could under the circumstances. He was honest and forthright and didn't waste my time or my money.
Description of Work: I needed to replace a leaky kitchen faucet in an old cottage. It was old, the pipes were older, rusted and stubborn. I started the job myself, went out and bought the replacement faucet, then started to remove the old one, which is when I began running into problems; the plumber from Nahman's came out, was able to unscrew the cold water pipe (not an easy task! He worked up a REALLY GOOD Sweat! I sure as heck didn't have the muscle to do it even with all the leverage afforded by the wrenches!) but he had to cut out the hot water pipe. He didn't have all the proper tools because the dispatcher had incorrectly described the problem to him, so he could not actually finish the job. By this time (about 2 hours later) a handyman friend of mine had come over and they both concurred on needing to cut the hot water pipe out.

Salesman came out on time, seemed very professional and detailed, but he couldn't follow through; gave an incomplete and misleading proposal dropping out some of the scope of the work that I had written out in detail. Probably an honest series of mistakes, but not good. Work wasn't performed in the agreed time frame. Plumber doing the work was just fine. Invoice had to be revised three times (accuracy needed to satisfy EB MUD rebate program). This should have been a simple project but it became a long drawing out experience. Ended up deciding to have another plumber complete other work. I did talk to the owner afterwards; he was responsive and apologetic. So perhaps the problems were just with the particular salesman.

He pulled the P-Trap under the bathroom sink to access the clogged area with a snake and then snaked the line. He replaced two pipes and reassembled them after removing a lot of gunk. He tested the sink and after a large volume of water had successfully drained (quickly), he pronounced us "cured". He also explained that we could join "the Diamond Club" which for around $7 a month, would entitle us to lower fees on all work; and a thorough exam annually of all plumbing systems, with free adjustments to all as needed. It sounded pretty terrific, sign us up!
Description of Work: Phillip arrived at the day & time estimated. He was pleasant, courteous and thorough. He removed pipes under the bathroom sink to access the clogged area with a snake. Hideous gunk was removed, and he then replaced two of the pipes which had been incorrectly assemble (by another plumber).

Pablo was on time, pleasant, neat, helpful and did not waste time. About a week after he reseated the hose, water started appearing again. Nahman sent Pablo back ASAP. He replaced the hose and showed me how if that didn't fix it, the style of the fittings would not allow them to be replaced and I would have to buy a new toilet. The toilet is 34 years old and has other annoying quirks, so it wouldn't bother me to replace it. There was no charge for the return visit.
Description of Work: A toilet was leaking, but I could not tell where from, just that I kept getting water puddles on the floor. Pablo identified the problem as a cross threaded hose and re-seated the hose on the connector. Additionally, he spent quite a bit of time discussing faucets with me (at my request), as I want to replace 3 faucets in my house.

Excellent. Their quote was highest of the three. But, based on Angie's list and the experience of friends using Nahman, we decided that it was better to pay more and get a "GOOD" job. They were on-time. They told us each day at what time they would return the next day. Good communications. The plumbers were knowledgeable and careful. They cleaned up each day. We were without water for only 4 hours. They removed all the old pipe from under the house plus removed other pipe that had been abandoned and left in-place by previous contractors. They obtained the required permits from the city. The city inspector was pleased with their work. Everything worked as promised. Although they flushed the lines, they did warn us that we could experience "junk" in the water lines for a few days, which we did. We had one shut off valve for the Washer that would not entirely shut off. They came back the next day and put on another valve. The piping has now been in 2 months. No problems.
Description of Work: Replaced all galvanized iron pipe with copper pipe. Replaced the pipe from the water meter at the curb to each location in the house. Plus added additional hose bibs outside. Placed back flow preventer on all hose bibs. When they dug up the lawn, they carefully put it back. They did a good job of replacing the sheet rock.

Every aspect of the job went extremely well and I am very pleased with the professionalism of everybody I dealt with from the Albert Nahman Plumbing and Heating company. Gabriel came out on a Saturday to accommodate my busy schedule to estimate the job. He competently sized up the project and sent a quote via email the same afternoon. Chris arrived precisely at the time promised. The company truck was very nice looking and well organized. Chris got right to work and did a suburb job. Everything looks and works great. Chris put everything back in place and cleaned the work area very well. I was a field service technician and have serviced thousands of customers and was also a service manager; I give the highest marks possible everybody involved at Albert Nahman. I will use Albert Nahman again for my future plumbing needs and would highly recommend their services to anyone. Albert Nahman Plumbing is by far the most professional service company I have ever done business with.
Description of Work: Chris from Albert Nahman Plumbing and Heating showed up exactly on time to install a free-standing sink and uphill drain pump for our downstairs laundry room. He also installed new water service lines and removed the old non-functioning drain pipes. The job took one day.

1. Day 1 went very well; everything done except the vent for the back bathroom. Very good workmanship and professionalism, and the plumbers even signed their work (their names are on the water heater)! 2. I was disappointed that the water heater only had a 6-year warrantee; I realize that I didn't "specify" anything more, but this was not cheap work and I was a bit disappointed. I spoke to Gabe on the phone, and he offered to get me replacement parts (anode rod and thermocouple) that are typically the only thing covered in the longer warranties. However, despite my asking multiple times and his repeated promises, these items never materialized. 3. Day 2, an unmarked truck showed up with workers not in uniform (one of whom did have an Albert Nahman cap) and a huge water heater in the back of the truck. It turns out they had been given the wrong address, and my plumbers were late. Took several phone calls to find this out. 4. Vent extension was deferred to another day.
Description of Work: 1. Remove and replace hot water heater with 50 gal shorty. Included a stand (cut to about 8" high) to keep the heater above potential basement flooding, and also included building out the house framing so the heater could be properly strapped for earthquakes. 2. Remove and replace gas shutoff valve to the kitchen stove (the old one was frozen in the open position). 3. Cap gas to the fireplace so ugly, unused gas log appliance could be removed. 4. Re-establish full water flow to the back bathroom, which despite copper plumbing (the rest of the house is galvanized) had the worst flow in the house. Basically, I think they flushed the pipes of debris. 5. Extended back bathroom vent through the roof, including gluing some ABS pieces that had only been dry-fitted and had come loose, and extending through the roof with copper.

When I first called, I was able to get an appointment the next day. I was given a two-hour window for the plumber's visit, and he showed up a few minutes after that window was over. The plumber was very congenial and knowledgeable. He worked quickly. One of the parts he replaced was faulty, so I had to call the company back, and this time I had to wait a week for the plumber to return. He replaced the part for no charge. This company has a set charge for various jobs, and I feel as if for this particular work, I probably would have paid less to a plumber who charged hourly.

I called and described the problem to the customer service rep. The 4" threaded collar on my kitchen sink drain was loose and water was thus leaking into the cabinet under the sink. I needed a technician with a large enough wrench to tighten it or to replace it (hopefully with a new gasket). I was told there would be a plumber at my door in 30 minutes or less. He would look at it, price the work, and hopefully fix it. As promised, the plumber was there in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately he was not equipped to tighten the threaded collar, or to replace it. He said that I had described the problem well, but that he does not carry parts or tools for that! He recommended that I pay him $45 for showing up and confirming my diagnosis and that I pay him $200 to go get a $2 gasket and the right wrench to remove the threaded collar and replace the gasket. I paid the $45 diagnosis/confirmation, but he would not accept the $20 coupon from Angie's List.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A "LEAK UNDER KITCHEN SINK AT DISPOSER THROAT (SINK FLANGE). LOCK RING IS BRITTLE PLASTIC AND IS SEIZED." HE RECOMMENDED "REPLAC(ING) DISPOSER OR THROAT ASSEMBLY, IF AVAILABLE." G.E. DISPOSER PARTS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH TWO SUPPLIERS IN OUR AREA: GALVIN APPLIANCE AND RELIABLE PARTS. THE SINK FLANGE IS NOT A STOCK ITEM AT EITHER SUPPLIER AND MUST BE ORDERED. OUR COMPANY INSTALLS IN-SINK-ERATOR AND PIRANHA DISPOSERS BECAUSE OF THEIR SUPERIOR "IN HOME" WARRANTIES AND AVAILABILITY OF PARTS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE UNABLE TO CARRY EVERY PART FOR BRANDS WE DO NOT RECOMMEND OR REGULARLY INSTALL. NOTE THAT EVEN LOCAL REGISTERED DISTRIBUTORS OF G.E. DISPOSERS DO NOT CURRENTLY CARRY THIS PARTICULAR PART. THE TECHNICIAN DID TRY TO TIGHTEN THE SUPPORT RING ON THE FLANGE ASSEMBLY WITH THE APPROPRIATE TOOL. HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE LEAK BY TIGHTENING THE FLANGE AND WAS UNWILLING TO OVERTIGHTEN FOR FEAR OF BREAKING THE PLASTIC SUPPORT RING. THESE FINDINGS LED THE TECHNICIAN TO BELIEVE THAT REPLACING THE SINK FLANGE OR THE ENTIRE DISPOSER WAS THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION. A REPAIR PRICE OF $199.00 WAS PROPOSED. THIS PRICE COVERS LABOR AND MATERIALS. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SINK FLANGE REQUIRES REMOVING AND RESEALING THE DISPOSER. G.E. INDICATES THAT INSTALLATION ALONE REQUIRES ONE HOUR. NOTE THAT THERE IS ADDITIONAL TIME REQUIRED TO TRACK DOWN AND ORDER SPECIALTY PARTS. THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE REPAIR PRICE.

A written proposal was provided within two days, I had stressed that I was not in any particular hurry. Upon approval of the proposal they scheduled the appointment within a week. The plumber was very friendly and professional. He took longer than expected in the proposal but that came at no charge to me. One small problem was that he didn't tighten the flexible gas hose down all the way, so what I assumed was the dissipating gas smell was not actually dissipating at all but that was easy enough to fix. I was surprised to discover that they were dispatching a team the next day to patch the Sheetrock that had to be cut out to accommodate the new gas hookup. All in all, a bit pricey but well worth it. Of the seven plumbers I called only two called back and they were the friendliest.
Description of Work: Gabriel came out to survey the job for an estimate, in this case running a new gas hookup for a stove. The old hookup had been removed previously and converted to electrical.

Excellent. The team was prompt. Gabe acted as a contractor, getting the sheet rock guy in first to open the wall. Then the plumbers came in and did their thing, even installing a shut off valve outside to make things all kosher and up to code. They then allowed us a few extra days to install the electrical before the sheet rock guy came back, they really worked with our DIY selves and did a great job. They weren't the cheapest nor the most expensive, but they did everything to code for a fair price. (Others quoted us much more for work that wasn't to code.)

The plumber arrived promptly as scheduled. I had hoped to take care of all four problems in one afternoon, but I guess that was not realistic. He took care of the sink issues quite effectively. He wanted to drain the water heater to install the seismic straps (and charge accordingly) -- unnecessary IMO.
