I bought a coupon from Angieslist for $49 for estimate and plan. I was thinking about building a patio and arbor. He just gave some opinions and helped kind of strategize the project. He gave me an idea of what they cost might be. He was real honest and straightforward. He was very personable. I wouldn?t do my backyard now based on his recommendations. I thought that he wanted to give me something more. He gave ideas for the front of the house for its appeal and I appreciated that. He was very responsive and he called me immediately after I contacted him, the same day. He was able to schedule an appointment within a week. He contacted me that day and arrived on time.
Description of Work: I had an appointment with Deome Builders Inc on Wednesday. He came and gave some advice and ideas for my yard and home.

This is the second time I've used them and both experiences were positive. They come when they say they are going to come. Because they were coming from the Sacramento area they came early in the morning but they brought enough people to get the job done quickly. They didn't drag it out for a week; it was one or two days at the most. They came on Monday and tore the old deck out. They came back Tuesday morning and put the new stuff in. Both days they were gone by 1 or 2 pm.
Description of Work: I used Deome 2 to rebuild a front deck. It included the purchase of new trex decking material and removal and disposal of the old deck and the installation of the new trex deck material.

The whole Deome crew was very experienced and professional. The job went without a hitch in only three days. They get a "B" in price because I really hadn't wanted to spend that much for the deck, but it was worth the extra touches that Tony suggested. The new deck is beautiful and I love it. I highly recommend Deome.
Description of Work: Deome removed my rotting redwood deck and replaced it with a new Trex deck, about 400 sq ft. Tony, the designer and estimator, was very knowledgeable and had great suggestions.

Tony was a great person to help get the deck project going. His design ideas were much better than my own and we went with his suggestions. The 6 man crew arrived at 0730 hrs, removed the old deck, carted it away and began work on the new one. They finished the project by 1630 hrs. The whole crew was great....friendly, attentive and hard working. I ended up with a beautiful deck that was much larger than the original. The most attractive part is the iron railings and angled staircase that descends between my mimosa trees. The Trex material and colours they used are just beautiful. They also did a great job of cleaning up after the project was finished and provided a needed support for my very large avocado tree. It was a very wet and muddy day, so please use your imagination when viewing the pictures. There will eventually be plantings around the deck. We are now saving up for another job by Deome....I wouldn't hire anyone else!

Tony, senior estimator, came out, looked at our deck, and discussed what we wanted (replacing the deck, making it a bit smaller, and replacing the lattice that shades the deck). He was very knowledgeable and organized, took measurements, presented the advantages & disadvantages of natural wood vs. synthetic decking materials (had samples with him), and came up with suggestions for color/trim to coordinate with our house color/trim. He was extremely responsive to followup questions but not pushy. After we decided to go with Deome2, Fred Deome came out and took measurements prior to purchase of materials. He also answered questions. Work was scheduled within a week or two, and materials were delivered to an agreed-upon area of the driveway the day before. We paid for materials after delivery using a credit card over the phone. When the workmen came they asked where we wanted the debris put and said nothing would be left overnight. They were very careful workers (interestingly, they did not wear gloves) and put the debris where we asked. It was all removed at the end of the day, as they had promised. The work took more than one day, partly because of the lattice replacement and partly because they were completing another job. Everyone was very pleasant, professional, and punctual; and they kept us informed. Fred Deome checked with us after the work was completed to make sure we satisfied. We were delighted. We paid the balance over the phone with a credit card. These folks just seem to do everything right.
Description of Work: Replace deck including supports, make it a bit smaller, and replace the lattice that shades the deck. Treat lattice with weatherseal before installation. Haul away debris & leave yard clean.

After several days negotiating design, price, and unknowns, we reached a contract price. Because the deck we were replacing was very old and rickety, there was some damage to the siding that needed to be repaired. Deome Bros. came through so well. They are professionals, start work early each day, work hard, do excellent work, take care of details. These folks are very good at what they do. I would love to give them a higher grade on the cost - but it just was so many $$. For certain, they gave us a fair deal and included some necessary repair work - so this really isn't a complaint. We also chose to use a quality product. In the end, the deck is gorgeous, the experience was good, and Deome Bros. is an excellent company with quality people.
Description of Work: Deome Bros. replaced a deck that was falling apart from decay and poor workmanship. The deck was built from the house 1st floor level over a sloped back yard. We chose a Trex product for the decking. The deck and the deck support structure is so well built, that I sure it will be standing long after the all else has fallen down.

The estimator, Tony, did an excellent job of describing all our options and providing samples of various decking materials. The job bid was detailed and easily understandable. The company owner, Fred, and his crew showed up exactly as scheduled. They worked quickly and efficiently, removing the old deck and installing the new deck in one day, returning the next day to install the railings. At my request they left usable lumber from the old deck neatly stacked in my yard. All work materials were promptly cleaned up and removed. Fred scheduled an inspection with me and gave full maintenance and care recommendations. During the inspection, we found that the ends of cumaru boards that butted against a center accent board had not been waxed; Fred apologized for the oversight and promptly scheduled a workman to complete the work. We were particularly impressed with the way they installed the decking to cleanly meet our sidewalk and adjacent grass area, something the old deck did not do. A great job!

Smoothly. would recommend to everyone, if you can afford it. Am having them back to make a few fixes to the visible bottom and to finish around my Dad's old brickwork steps. They are supergood and trustworthy. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: New deck installed in the footprint of the old, removed deck. Prompt start, owner on the job most days directing workers and listening to me, the client. Nice saleman, all were communicative. Brought in a plumber to make sure water lines were working and to install gas line from house for gas grill. Everyone was wonderful, prompt, and got the job done in 3 days!

The Deome crew arrived the first day of the job, on time, and had the entire deck almost completely framed the first day. Came back the next day and installed the Trex planks. Third day, they came and finalized the finishing work and trim. They were done by about 2pm the third day (and this was for a 16"x26" deck). They cleaned up every speck of material and even insured all the gates were closed behind them. I love my deck so much I can't speak. The kids are out there every night until it's so dark they *have* to come inside they love it so much. Hiring Deome to install our new deck is one of the best decisions we've ever made. Love, love, love this company!
Description of Work: I emailed Deome Builders through Angie's List and had a phone call the next day. Within a few days, Tony came out to give us an estimate on the new deck we wanted built in our backyard (we had an old concrete (read: ugly) patio). Tony had such great ideas! He gave me an initial estimate of $19.9K. It was not only competitive from the other bids I received, but it was for a Trex deck - which is what we really wanted (low maintenance). Tony drew the design out and was so incredibly knowledgeable and so so sweet. We really enjoyed working with him! Due to some poor wording in the city spec's on decks and patio structures, we thought there might be a permit issue (which there wasn't), but to make sure we would be ok and to insure that the deck plans were completely finalized before construction began, Tony drove all the way down to the South Bay from the Sacramento area to talk to the city planners and re-measure everything to make sure we were on track. We ended up adding more square footage (and more railing) to the deck to bring the price up to $24.9K.

Harley Deome was my main point of contact during this effort as he was during our last go-round with Deome Builders (when we had a second-story deck rebuilt). I realized from the get-go that this was a relatively small job to get bids on, and Harley and I kept going back and forth about it - what the issue was, how to fix it, when to do it - intermittently from about June 2009 to December 2009. Harley and the other contractors that looked at the issue agreed that the installation of the cover was the problem; the H-shaped support that held the cover on the end that wasn't attached to the roof was attached to the floor of the deck when it should have been constructed as a standalone structure, and the L brackets that connected the ledger on the roof side of the cover to the roof and to the cover itself were far too few in count. Harley encouraged me to pursue this with the company that installed the roof since it was within their 10-year window of liability for it, but as I mentioned above that company was only interested in deflecting blame. Finally after months of not really focusing on this too much I got more serious about it and tried to lock in a bid in the fall so I could get the work done before we got into the rainy season. Harley agreed that his company could do the work, and though I didn't tell him at the time the other companies we had look at it didn't want to bid it because they were scared of working with the extra-thick composite roofing material we had on the house. Since our job was kind of small and the cover didn't seem in any danger of falling down it took a while to work it into Deome's schedule; that wasn't a problem for me because I knew that Harley was aware that he needed a week or so of no rain to get the work done, so we just waited for the right time. Once we hit a good weather window where Harley's schedule was free the work went fast and smooth. The crew showed up and took the cover apart and also took the H-shaped support and railings off the deck. Harley himself dug holes under our deck - taking great care to preserve the plants we had planted around the outside skirt of the deck since the deck itself is about 4 feet off the ground - in which he poured concrete footings. They cut precise holes through the deck and ran vertical beams down through the holes to the footings to replace the vertical parts of our H-shaped support. When the footings had dried with the beams in them the railings went back up with some new wood to ensure a fit with the new H-shaped support. They replaced our ledger board attached to the roof and put a plethora of new L brackets in to support it. Then they carefully reassembled the roof cover, which was in four sections, and attached it to the ledger and the new H-shaped support. I should mention that the H-shaped support really has a cross-beam at the top too and they preserved these cross-beams from the original setup; they didn't try to upsell us on new wood here that we didn't really need. Harley warned us that sometimes pulling these types of roof covers apart and putting them back together again can produce leaks between the sections since the covers are not made to come apart once they're up, but we've had some doozy rainstorms since then with no problems. Harley also did all of this footing work under the deck without destroying any of our plants around the deck, which I really think is astounding - I never would have believed it could be done. His crew made only one concession to the difficulty of this job, which was attaching the L-brackets to the roof on top of the shingles rather than working them into the shingles; Harley asked if this was OK before proceeding this way, and I was so overjoyed that they did the other work so well that I told him that was fine and that my main criterion was to have no leaks when he was done. His crew certainly did that, and the brackets look fine even though they're on top of the shingles. All in all it took them 4 part-days to do this job, which I think had some challenging aspects to it, and they left a very clean worksite when they were done. I am very pleased with the result. They also replace some dry-rotted trim boards around a sliding glass door for us and some dry-rotted wood on the second-story deck supports for us. Besides leaving a little to be desired in caulking around these boards the work was done well.
Description of Work: We had a deck cover - a metal cover with foam insulation to dampen rain noise - installed about 10 years ago by a different company. They used our existing H-shaped supports at the end of the deck, with railing under the "crossbar", to support the side of the deck that wasn't attached to the house. These supports were starting to lean away from the house and the cover was pulling away from the ledger support attached to the roof. The company, who I won't name but will only say that they're not Builders on the Atlantic, refused to fix the problem and insisted that the only possible explanation was that the deck itself was sinking - a contention that Deome and the other contractors we had look at this issue denied (and could demonstrate by placing a level on the deck). Deome Builders agreed to fix the issue for us and to replace a couple of dry-rotted boards around a sliding glass door and on one of our other decks.

The experience with Deome Builders was the best one could imagine! We contacted Fred Deome after viewing Angie's List and Deome's high rating. Fred Deome met with us shortly, suggesting various designs and we received a proposal very quickly. The Deome Builders' team was excellent in that they were punctual, neat, professional and very accomplished in construction. The team managed to construct our deck without trampling on our numerous plantings. Fred would meet with them each morning for the daily work planning. And communication between Fred and us was ongoing and always promptly addressed. We love our gorgeous deck and have received numerous complements!

It was made of treks. They are Trek certified installers. Harley Deome is the owner of the company. It was difficult to get the materials because of trek failures, but he got the materials the day he was here. He came with a crew of 8 people. They did the work in 6 hours which I couldn't do for months. They could finish what I could never finish and it was the best $3500 I have ever spent. They cleaned-up after their work and hauled it up to the dumps and didn't charge me anything extra for it. They installed all the new material. It was difficult to do the job as there was a false base under the deck and you have to literally lie on your back. I had fasteners to help me work under the deck and it took me months to do it. They lay on the ground under the deck and did the work. His philosophy was to get more number of people rather than have two people to work throughout the week. They came in at 7.00 in the morning and got off by 2.00 in the afternoon. One thing I like about them is that they correspond through email. When we made the arrangements to get it done, they had it done. He actually saved me a lot of headaches as I had attempted to work through treks. When I tried to get the materials delivered, the secretary never returned the calls and I couldn't get it delivered. Harley knew the people at the company and got the materials delivered.

My job hit during a time of chaos for these guys as Harley (who runs the residential side of the business) was doing both his job and his brother's (on the corporate side) because Fred was out for a while. When I accepted the bid, Harley told me he'd call at the start of the week when the job would be scheduled; he did call me a day before the crew was going to show up. They were there at 7am as promised; when I came home that night all the dry rot was replaced and the new decking in place, but since no one was there, I didn't know if it was all done or not. Harley called me the next day to ask what I thought of the work. It needed minor changes; a support board under the sliding door threshold to the deck was now too short and the fascia now protruded visibly because the new Trex boards were thinner than the old wood ones. But those issues were taken care of, along with replacing the fascia (and even painting the inside of the fascia) in short order a couple of days later.
Description of Work: Repaired dry rot damage on a second-story deck by replacing joists, rail posts, and deck support pillars that were compromised. Also replace the wooden deck surface with Trex and braced the deck, which had a tendency to sway from side to side when someone was moving around on it.

My experience was surprisingly dissatisfying. I was very impressed with the prior member reports and the company's website. I called and spoke for about 20 minutes with Harley 2-3 months ago; he promised he would call me back in 1 week. After not hearing anything for 2 weeks, I called again and spoke with Harley's brother who apologized profusely and he explained that my contact info was lost; understanding that mistakes happen, I accepted the apology and I expressed my continued interest and received an appointment to meet with them. They came to my house at the appointment time and told them they would get back in contact with me in 1 week. It has now been 3.5 weeks and no contact in any form. This was a major disappointment given the otherwise positive buzz and reviews from others.

Response from Deome 2 Builders Inc
FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE CUSTOMERS WHO POSTED REPORTS FOR WHICH WE ACTUALLY PERFORMED WORK ON THEIR HOMES. HE CONTACTED ME ON THE 11TH OR 12 OF JUNE NOT 2-3MONTHS AGO, WE HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHAT HE WAS WANTING TO DO AT HIS HOME, ABOUT 20 MIN LONG. I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT HE WAS GOING TO RECONTACT ME. TWO WEEKS LATER MY PARTNER FRED NOTIFIED ME THAT HE HAD CONTACTED HIM AND WAS WONDERING WHY HE WAS NEVER CONTACTED AGAIN, (THIS WAS A MISCOMMUNICATION ON EITHER OUR OR HIS PART) FRED THEN MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO VISIT HIS RESIDENCE TO PROVIDE HIM WITH AN ESTIMATE. WE WERE ON TIME TO THE APPOINTMENT. HE PROCEEDED TO TELL US THAT THE JOB HAD TO BE COMPLETED FOR A PARTY IN THREE WEEKS, WE TOLD HIM THAT OUR SCHEDULE WAS OUT A BIT FARTHER THAN THAT AND DID TELL HIM WE WOULD GET BACK TO HIM IN A WEEK OR SO. WE DECIDED DUE TO HIS TIMING WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE WORK, WHY GIVE AN ESTIMATE. I DID NOT CONTACT HIM AGAIN, BUT SHOULD HAVE. THE REPORT SHOULD ONLY HAVE AN F NEXT TO RESPONSIVENESS NOT ALL THE OTHER CATEGORIES, HE NEVER GOT A PRICE FROM US, NEVER SAW THE QUALITY OF WORK WE PROVIDE, WE WERE PUNCTUAL TO THE APPOINTMENT, THE FIRST PHONE CALL WAS A MISCOMMUNICATION AND THE LACK OF ME GIVING HIM AN ESTIMATE WAS MY FAULT. PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE REVIEWS FROM OUR MORE THAN SATISFIED CUSTOMERS, SINCERELY, HARLEY DEOME

The team finished a previous job early and dropped by in hopes that I was home to complete my project. Luckily I was and they completed the entire job within an hour. The team was professional, friendly and did a wonderful job. They even applied a decorative cut to the ends of the wood to match the other side of our trellis. They also offered to paint the ends of the cut wood. Once the job was completed they ensured that the area was completely cleaned of any debris. Although my job was small, and this company is busy with many large projects, I would definitely wait for them to work on my project over having any other company do the job. I have full confidence in their workmanship and recommend them to anyone. I was extremely pleased and will certainly contact them if I ever need a fence redone which could be in my near future.
Description of Work: Removed a portion of an already existing trellis and hauled removed wood.

The detailed estimate included variations of the deck plan. We met the rep to choose the Trek color we desired. The deck was started the next week with workers showing up at the time promised. They were quick and efficient in putting in the piers. The second day, they arrived on time and laid the floor of the deck. They returned the third morning (on time again) and completed the benches, stairs and trim around the bottom of the deck. They were efficient and cleaned up the area daily and hauled away any debris. The workers were polite and worked carefully around the plants in the deck area.
Description of Work: This company built a Trek deck including benches and stairs.
