+ -1 moreMy son sleeps on a Flexa bed. Flexa no longer sells or services it's products in the U.S. and when the strap rotted and a wooden slat broke, I did not know who to call. I found Dan here on Angie's list. Dan called me back immediately and came out the next day. He quoted a fair price to fix the bed and did the work very quickly. His work was not only well and professionally done, but he gave care to the type of wood needed that would match my son's bed. I'll definitely call him again for other work when we need it! Very excellent experience.

Description of Work: I used Dan the Handyman. We were in the middle of moving in and construction and he did a number of things for us. He did a small amount of drywall, he installed a dog door, he did some plumbing and he changed out some faucets.

Description of Work: Very disappointed! But only because I found that Dan didn't cover the downtown location where the work was to be performed. + -1 moreHe called me before the installation date and spoke with me about the age of the house so he can be better prepared (older houses have better materials most of the time so I was told) As he was installing he not only gave me advice on what to expect but also when to call for services on the fan. The water leaked a bit after he installed the shower and did not leave until it was corrected. I have been enjoying both items without problems. I would definitely recommend to others and use him again. I liked his services because the price was right and he went above and beyond to inform me what to expect. In addition, he was well prepare before he came.
Description of Work: I hired his service based on Angie's list reviews. He was excellent and I have nothing but good things to say about him. I hired him to install ceiling fan and to install shower new shower head.

Within a few minutes of observing him, I left him alone, as I knew that he knew what he was doing: Plastering, repairing light fixtures, securing dresser drawers, placing weather stripping on an old back door, greasing the brackets on the garage door and making sure it opened and closed correctly, helping balance a mattress with boards he did not even charge me for. The list goes on. I cannot say enough good things about this handyman. I am very picky and particular, but I had no complaints about Dan's work. I highly, highly recommend him. Also, when he told me he would be at my house at 2:00 p.m., he showed up exactly at 2:00 p.m. The second time he came out, he also was perfectly punctual. He was a true pleasure to do business with!!
Description of Work: I had a "To Do List" of over 15 jobs to be done: Put caulking around fireplace, light plastering in bathroom, fix closet light, fix closet door, secure dresser drawers, lubricate garage brackets, put weather stripping on back door, etc. Dan did each and every job quickly and competently. He was organized and a true perfectionist. He was friendly, but professional, and very sweet to my dogs. I have referred him to my friends, who always ask me, "Do you know a good handyman?" Dan is a real professional!!!! He is very honest, as well. I do plan to have him back when my "To Do List" fills up again. Thank you, Angie's List, for this great referral!!

Description of Work: Dan came by to take care of some handyman work for us. He fixed our dresser, kitchen and bathroom doors, put together a stool, installed some new light bulbs, put in a door stopper, moved some furniture, secured the crawlspace door, fixed up our kitchen cabinet door. His work ethic is stellar and his respect for one's possessions and surroundings is something not often found in a handyman. He was able to rule out problems and ultimately find the solution to restoring power to the outdoor lights. It was such a joy last night to let my Golden out into the yard and see the motion lights come on. The dog seemed happy, too!Thank you again, Dan! Description of Work: I have spent years trying to find a competent, responsible and reliable handyman. Unfortunately I have thrown good money after bad in the process. Alas, those days are behind me because thank to Angie and her incredible list I have found Dan the Handyman. Dan is a true gem! The first time he came to my house to give me an estimate, he arrived precisely when he said he would and when he returned yesterday to proceed with electrical work, he arrived at the appointed time. This goes such a long way with me because I always thought that having a punctual handyman was something that would never happen! My situation was challenging. Flood lights outside my bedroom window had ceased operation for probably 4 or 5 years. Dan tested the outdoor wires for power and there was none. Then he tested the indoor wires for power and there was none. Dan then crawled under my house in an attempt to reach the wires at the north end of the house but that attempt proved futile because the space was too narrow and he couldn't reach the destination. I thought that all was lost, but Dan then went back into the bedroom and explained that there was another option: he could run a wire from the outdoor source from the indoor socket. I am probably not explaining this accurately. It took Dan over an hour to get the wire through the wall, around a block of wood and to the socket. It was amazing to watch him! I had not purchased a motion detector light and he went to the hardware store and did that for me as well! The entire process took a little over 2 1/2 hours and the $218 that he charged was so reasonable. I was sure that I would be looking at $500 or $600! Of course then I was thinking about how I would have to patch up the holes in bedroom wall that Dan had to open to get to and run the wire, and he told me that he will return to do that, so I am set.As previous reviews have noted, Dan is not only extremely knowledgeable and adept at his craft, he is courteous, professional and very neat and respectful of the surroundings he is working in and he is great with pets! My Golden, Hamilton, kept dropping his ball next to Dan in an effort to get him to toss it!Thank you again, Dan! Looking forward to seeing you back in a couple of weeks.Stefanie, a very, very happy customer!

+ -1 moreI called, we talked and agreed to a date a week hence to do a full day's worth of work. Dan was prompt, professional and efficient. I had a prioritized list and he just began working his way through it. Two areas where he really went above and beyond: The headboard turned out not to fit the bed exactly and stability was an issue. We discussed possible ways to fix it and he went and purchased some extra materials and made it work. Not only was the fix clean and strong, it was something I never would have been able to do myself. Secondly, and more importantly, I had a number of doors and cabinets that had slowly gotten out of whack over the years. I had never really put together that they all laid along the same structural line in my house and weren't just individual issues. But Dan saw this and pointed it out. A total "ah-hah" moment for me at the obviousness of it. I so appreciate his overall eye which made me realize I have an underlying issue to address with foundation specialists. I would definitely hire Dan again. He's well worth the money.

Description of Work: Dan was detailed, thorough and very nice. He reinstalled the doggy door, fixed the hinges on a shed door in the yard, fixed a kitchen drawer and repaired the front door which was difficult to open and close due to weather. Glad we went with him.

+ 4 moreDan was so polite, he chose the new toilet for me and went to get it at the supply store, including the various parts needed to complete the repair. He explained the whole thing, about why the old one needed replacement, and why he chose the one that he did. The lights were hung with complete satisfaction, making sure that the heights were correct, the switch was placed properly, etc. The book-case was older with some details on the doors broken before I bought the house. He even made matching pieces and stained them perfectly at his own shop and installed them with invisible gluing. I was very happy with the work.
Description of Work: Dan is very polite and professional. He has a personable demeanor. He promptly started the work of fixing some broken doors on the book-case, fixing some broken lights, replacement of a toilet, hanging new light fixtures, and other "small(?)" jobs. I referred to my neighbors for some kitchen work that they needed, and he was their "handyman" too.

He works alone so there are some projects he cannot do. He is very reliable and does excellent work. He is very busy so sometimes you have to schedule an appointment a few weeks out. I had to cancel an appointment and he stayed in touch with me to follow up and let me know what open dates he had.
Description of Work: He installed a recessed medicine cabinet and reinstalled some towel racks in the bathroom.

+ 0 moreHe was very tidy and neat. I found him off Angie's List. He was great. I had a hard time hooking up with him. Once I did, he was great. He did plumbing and electrical, and installed a vanity. We had a pedestal sink he had to take out and he donated it to the Habitat for Humanity. They have a warehouse in the Los Angeles Area. My husband asked him what he was going to do with it, and he said he would donate it to be reused and it wouldn't have to cost anything. He gets high ratings and I will use him again.

+ 0 moreOur tenants mailbox is on a pole next to the driveway. In a lager wind storm we had last month it blew down. Because it was a small job and lots of people have big jobs they still need done we kept putting it off but when the mailman started to complain we call Dan. When he heard the problem he came over that same day. Dan came replaced the footing, (he was going to reuse it but when he cleaned it out he saw that it was cracked in the middle) put in a new pole in and reattached the mailbox to the pole (the mailbox was undamaged by the wind). He even made sure that the reflextors from the old pole were put on the new one. When he put the pole in he put it deeper and when he was done he cleaned up after himself.
Description of Work: Replace a blown down mailbox and pole.

+ 1 moreGreat work. When we moved into our house we installed (but never finished) a steel framed wooden gate across our driveway. Because it exceeded our skill level, we never installed the final planks closest to the hinges. Not only did the gate look awful (because it had missing planks) but over time the weight of the gate caused the bolts we had installed it with to come out of the house. It was unfinished and coming apart. Dan installed the missing planks, attached better bolting, and installed a rotating wheel at the edge of the gate in order to give the heavy gate some support. It was a complicated job and he did it very well. He also hung some artwork (which he did very quickly and it was nice and level) and caulked the kitchen sink.
Description of Work: Made complicated repairs to a steel framed, wooden driveway gate including installing a wheel. Also put up some artwork and caulked kitchen sink.

Description of Work: Dan the handyman showed up for work when he said he would and did everything we had discussed in his preliminary visit. He was very resourceful. I wanted a wood door repaired and he referred me to someone who did a fabulous job. The other tasks he did were in plumbling, electrical and large appliance and other minor repairs. He is very clever and understands how to fix things right. He also knows how to find the right product for the job, and will spend the time to do so. I have a 100 year old house, so I have many chores for a handyman. Dan is the first person I would call - I wish I had known about him sooner.
