Dan showed up exactly when he said he would, did the work promptly, and charged a fair price. The most important thing is that the repair is invisible. Matching the color of old grout isn't easy, but Dan did a perfect job.
Description of Work: Dan re-glued two loose ceramic floor tiles and installed new grout around them.

We called Dan and gave him a list of work to be done. He estimated the time and money. He was busy, so he couldn't come for about 10 days. But when he did, he completed all tasks beautifully, in a half-day, which is what he had estimated, including going to the hardware store. He was punctual, smart, efficient and a pleasure. We do not hesitate to recommend him 100%.

He did a great job in drilling 16 bolts into our brick patio. Dan is very efficient and has the proper tools and knowledge to take care of many miscellaneous home repairs. We have called on Dan for all kinds of things, from gate repair to wood repair in our cat enclosure. He is prompt, professional and easy to work with. He mentioned that his hourly rate will be $60 beginning November 1st.

He is my handyman, and he does a great job. He is very nice, and his work ethic is excellent. He is extremely knowledgeable, and he is able to figure out solutions for everything from Venetian blinds that come down to toilets that leak to doors that don’t shut properly. He has done a lot of things around here. There are a lot of nice things about him. He is a little pricey, but he is worth it.

Dan attempted to fix the sink twice. Each time it appeared to work with no leaks when he left, but then started leaking later. He said to call him if it didn't work and I think he would have come a third time but I didn't see the point because it's an old sink and I think it needs to be replaced. We had a similar experience with another plumber who performed a number of different tasks that all worked, but the sink he tried to fix from leaking, he spent some time with and couldn't fix it. So, I don't hold Dan particularly responsible for not fixing the sink. I would be willing to try him one more time to observe the quality of his work. His rate was a reasonable $55 / hr.
Description of Work: We called Dan for an estimate to repair some of our doors, a glass pane in a door window, and a leaky sink in small bathroom. He referred us to a colleague to replace two doors, which we never followed up on, he showed us how to remove the window and who to take it to to get the glass replaced to save us some money. He also attempted to fix the sink which was the only actual work that he did for us.

Response from Dan the Handyman
FYI: This was a 100 year old home with the original galvanized pipes and fixtures. I surveyed the drip in the home's original vintage sink that had built-in hardware. I informed the owner that the problem was the old corroded pipes and the faucet was probably full of sediment in the washer area, and also parts might be hard to find. My recommendation was to replace the sink and have the old pipes replaced. Re-piping was not in his budget at the time, and I respect that. I also love the look of old fixtures and we both agreed to try to fix it first before he had to call in a plumbing contractor. I found one company in So Cal who could refurbish and repack the faucet's washer units. I installed them and it worked temporarily. When he called to say it was dripping again, I said it looked like it wasn’t going to work due to the old pipes and existing sediment, but he wanted to try again. He also mentioned a new place had started dripping under the sink. I went back and replaced an old supply line that had gone bad, and did not charge him for reworking the faucet drip a second time. Many clients ask to fix their vintage plumbing first prior to replacing it, and it’s always worth a try. I always do quality work. Sometimes it works --- for a while, but, ultimately, time wins out and an upgrade of the fixtures or the whole system is required.

Dan was punctual and pleasant. He assessed the job and was leary whether it was a one-man job. My husband offered to work beside him and they accomplished the task to our satisfaction. We would hire Dan again in a minute.
Description of Work: The fascia board on our garage needed to be replaced. When Dan first arrived he didn't think he could do the job by himself due to the length of the 20 ft board. My husband offered to work beside him and follow Dan's instructions. The finished job is secure and neat. Dan was a good man to work with.

Dan came that day to look at the doggie door. He was able to fix it with longer screws. I have called on Dan from time to time and have found him to be very professional. He calls back right away, gives an estimate of his work. He will tell you if it is something that he can't do because it's not his expertise. I highly recommend you call Dan for all handyman jobs needed around your home.

I found Dan on angieslist and I'm so glad I did. He's friendly, capable, and reassuringly reliable. He was able to do everything we needed done to get the condo ready, worked quickly and efficiently, was willing to make a quick trip for needed parts. It's so nice to find someone both extremely competent and trustworthy. We plan on using him for all our future repairs. Thanks, Dan!
Description of Work: Dan helped get our condo ready for rental by doing a dozen small jobs and repairs inside, including installing drawer pulls, filling nail holes, recaulking bathtub, installing bath fan, installing new dishwasher, and on and on. He was there almost six hours and was just great about doing everything asked of him, and even finding stuff I had overlooked that needed attention.

I needed some Cat5e network cable pulled from one room to another and would ordinarily do it myself, but a back injury precluded this. I found Dan on Angie's List and sent him an e-mail. We scheduled the work and Dan showed up on-time and ready to go. He pulled the cable, tacked it up to the joists using wire staples, and did an all around great job. Good work, reasonable cost, great guy.
Description of Work: Pull cable from one room of the house to another by running cable in the crawlspace.
We were getting ready to put a house on the rental market and called Dan to complete a list of items on the property. We found him through a friend, and through Angie's List. He arrived on time (early, actually), and after going through the list and letting us know what he could/could not do (a proposed project was the replace a shower unit including plumbing, which is really a general contractor job) he set off to work right away. Dan was very professional and courteous, and suggested good repair options, considering that this was a rental property. He came back at least once and left the house very clean, like he was never there, except now the broken things are fixed. We'd have no hesitation referring him or calling him again.
Description of Work: Dan completed many tasks including installing new sconces, repairing/un-sticking double-hung windows that had been painted and otherwise stuck shut for many years, fixing doors and windows that wouldn't close properly, and repairing a gate post that was rotting. In the end, Dan also troubleshot a plumbing issue, saving us time and money on redoing the entire shower area.
He has become our regular handyman. He is wonderful. One of the first thing I noticed about him was that he had a professionally designed business card. Not that there is anything wrong with buying your business cards at Vista Print, but his really stood out. He had a very professional appearance and demeanor. He returns calls immediately. He always shows up on time. He always shows up on time, he has all his tools and equipment. He comes up and evaluates the situation and then dashes off and buys what he needs from the hardware store. He presents a very simple to read and decipher invoice at the end that separates the cost of materials from the cost of labor which we really appreciate because it's a rental and we have to break all that out for the IRS. He is very punctual. He works quickly and efficiently. He suggests ways to reduce costs. I had something in mind for the life outside and he said to look at the Habitat for Humanity store. He was willing to go out of his way to do that for me because I didn't have time to.
Description of Work: We were getting our rental ready. He went over the whole house. He installed electrical outlets with circuit breakers built in. He replaced some old, worn outlets that were not grounded. He replaced some outside lights and a door. He repaired some flooring that was coming up in our kitchen. He worked for two weeks straight on our place.

His phone was answered promptly. He arrived promptly. He was prepared for all the jobs required, and he told me the approximate cost, which was much lower than I expected, at the beginning. He even gave me a choice about fixing the toilet with just parts or all new material. Those outside wires had been arcing during a recent rainstorm, and he found they were wired wrong many years ago. Dan fixed them above code. When he left, the house looked as if he'd never been there; he cleaned up all the discarded items. I'm adding things to my honey-do list because I know Dan can do them.

Dan initially came to my house to install a pet door in a french door in my kitchen. After looking at the two doors, he determined that it would be best to install it in an adjacent wall. After spending about 20 minutes or so at the house to assess the situation he left and did not charge for his time. After purchasing the correct door I called Dan back and made an appointment with him only days later. He installed the dog door in no time despite encountering two issues including an alarm system wire directly in the path of the door. He also placed a frame around the door which dressed it up and made it look very nice. In addition, he cleaned up and left no trace of the work. We are so happy with his work that we are looking for other things for him to do.
Description of Work: Dan installed a large pet door in a wall at my residence.
Each time Dan came he was very punctual, neat and efficient. Dan is very knowledgeable regarding many different repair projects and I am thankful to have someone to count on for so many different home repair projects. Everything he fixed was done well and was reasonably priced. Dan anticipated some problems along the way and showed me how to avoid them. He also made suggestions that saved me money and time. I have three more projects lined up for Dan and have recommended Dan to my family and friends.
Description of Work: Dan has been to our house twice, and I am ready to call him for a third visit for new things that need repair. He fixed a broken door handle, and repaired our porch light that the wiring had caught on fire. I called Dan a second time and he came with his son to install a basketball backboard and net for my son.

He is good for the basic stuff. Anything that might require a couple of days, he was very evasive about. I asked him for quotes about a couple of things and he never got it to me. For the basic stuff, he did a really good job. He also was going to give me a recommendation for somebody else and he never got back to me. That, along with not returning the bids, was sort of annoying. I don't think that I would call him for anything other than resetting a toilet bowl.

Dan completed some minor electrical changes, switches, etc. He installed two new lighting fixtures. We are fixing some old paneling that needs work as part of a window installation that was not done well a few years ago. Dan seems to know what he needs to do, and sets about doing it. Thanks Dan ! Update 12/9/10: Dan has been coming once a week to help with a substantial back-log of projects around here and each time he does such a great job. Dan reminded me that I, we all, should contribute usable though "vintage" construction materials to Habitat for Humanity. Maybe they are looking for an old *** that will just fill the bill.
Description of Work: Dan discussed the request over the telephone, and them came to look at the house, I have several "small" jobs to be done. We discussed his skills and charges, and he came to make the repairs as promised. The work was completed mostly, but still "work in progress" as I have a somewhat long list. Update 12/9/10: It seems that Dan Fernandez can do almost anything. I did one report, and this is an update...he has helped with several things around here and yesterday replaced the toilet and faucet in one bathroom.
