I just interviewed the guy and he gave me an estimate. I was impressed with them but I didn?t use their services to get the work done. I used someone else. He gave me a clear explanation of what they were doing and also about the warranties. He was very responsive. I interviewed 5 companies for the job. I would probably not use their services again.

After receiving bids from two other companies, the owner, Vance, agreed to meet the offer by B & J Air Conditioning and to honor his companies ten year parts and labor extended warranty coupon. He told us that he had lived in our neighborhood and was very familiar with what needed to be done in these older homes. The equipment was installed on time and by very professional installers. One installer told us that he would be returning to install a GFI that would be required to pass inspection. Vance, the owner, arrived later and informed us that he was not responsible for it passing code and that we could expect up to an additional $2,000 for electrical improvements if the inspection failed. The other two estimates included the GFI and guaranteed that their work would pass inspection. I would get everything in writing from this company or save yourself the aggravation and money by going with B & J. This is an update on an AC/Heating unit that Temp Con installed for us. We needed an entirely new unit when our old one went out mid August. Temp Con was willing to quickly respond and match a lower price we had been quoted. They showed up on time as promised. The unit was installed by the end of the day. It was a high efficiency unit, and has proven to be much better than our old unit. Likewise, the furnace installed appears to more efficient. The problem was that we have an older home (1957). The main electrical box was perfectly good in 1957, but now needs upgrading. All the other bidders assured us that passing any subsequent inspection of the installed unit would not be a problem, a problem that could potentially cost several thousand dollars. After the unit was installed by Temp Con, Vance, the owner, stated they could not guarantee it would pass inspection because of the old box. I told him I was not happy with this, given the assurances by other bidders on the project, and this was reflected in my previous report. Temp Con did get the required permits, but it took them a several weeks after the work was done. It appears the county was requiring a new set of estimates for the permit that required new software before they could be generated by Temp Con. In all fairness, Vance, the owner, personally called me to let me know what was going on. Once this was resolved, a permit was issued, and the work was eventually inspected by the county. It passed inspection without a hitch, but it was an anxious few weeks until this actually took place. I would recommend Temp Con again. They were good to work with and explained each step of the process. The delay seems to have been caused by a switch in standards at the county level, as well as a back up in paperwork in the main office at Temp Con, probably due to the extremely hot weather and the rush to get in under some existing rebates. Perhaps a greater discussion with them could have avoided the concern over the permit issue, but over all we were satisfied. If it had not been for the glitch we would have given A's all around. I plan to call them out again for estimates on another project.

I received four estimates for the work. There were substantial variations in estimates for size of system needed as well as cost. Two of the bids required expensive upgrades to the electrical service. I found an online A/C load estimator and this contractor was closest, had the best price point, and was able to work with the existing electrical service. After accepting the bid, the work commenced 3 days later. The workers showed up on time and had the system installed in a day. They returned a day later to remove the old cooler. I asked them, for aesthetics, to change the way the lines ran to the external condenser unit and they made the change without additional charges. The work was completed on schedule and everything seems to work. The owner of the company was responsive -- returned all my calls, made additional visits to be sure everything would work, and answered all questions.

Diagnosis of intermittent failures is difficult. Serviceman came 3 times before a definitive diagnosis. He charged only for the first visit ($79 diagnostic fee, $28 for cleaning electrical contacts.) Recommended new wiring harness. Heater worked for a couple of days and failed again. I got it started but after a while it failed again. Serviceman returned and got it working. Trouble now appeared to be in flame sensor. He cleaned it. Fine for a day or so, but then failed. This time the serviceman found that manipulating the electrical plug on the gas valve unit caused burner to go on and off. But it did stay on. At this point my thermostat failed and I installed a new one, myself. Then the heater failed again. I checked out the wiring, myself and purchased and installed a new plug. Since that failed to fix the problem, the fault was in the gas valve unit (perhaps in its half of the plug) so I called the serviceman once more and determined that replacing the unit was the only feasible (though expensive) approach since the unit was not built to be disassembled. I called the company and it ordered a new unit. Order took several days to arrive. When it did they called me and we arranged for installation. A serviceman arrived on time and did the work very quickly, charging me the agreed price and the heater has functioned well since then. The company treated me very well and was responsive; I would use their services again. The relatively high price was due to the equipment design (Trane).

TempCon has been doing our semi-annual maintenance quite well for years. Very quick quote. Only vendor in Tucson willing to quote us different brands of furnace vs AC at our request. Installation included no-cost removal of an old hot water heater and installation of a new one not from them. The demolition and installation took two days and was very carefully done, includiing bringing in a large crane at no additional cost to lift the old AC compressor out and a new, very large one in. TempCon was the only vendor that recognized that they could install a new, concentric flue on the high efficiency furnace without destroying our walls and roof.

We have an annual contract with them.

I WAS EXTREMELY IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SERVICES. MY AIR CONDITIONER QUIT WORKING AND THEY WERE HERE WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS. I DID HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT EXPENSE, BUT THEY DID WORK OUT A PAYMENT PLAN WITH ME.

I THINK THAT THIS COMPANY IS VERY PROFESSIONAL. THEY SHOWED RESPECT TO ALL MY SUGGESTIONS. I COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER COMPANY TO HAVE WORK FOR ME. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

THE WORKERS THAT CAME OUT TO MY HOME DID A VERY POOR JOB ON THE INSTALLATION. THEY HAD NOT CONFIGURED ANY AIR DUCT WORK SINCE THE NEW UNIT WAS INSTALLED. I HAD ABOUT FIVE MAJOR PROBLEMS SINCE THE INSTALLATION.

THE TECHNICIAN IS WONDERFUL. HE SEEMS TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT WHAT HE WAS DOING. EVEN THE PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE THAT I TALKED TO WERE NICE. THEY ARE JUST A REALLY PROFESSIONAL COMPANY.
