Response from MVP Air Conditioning
I have kept an extensive log of our interactions with this customer that includes: 4/27/2010 – We installed the system and removed/capped her evap cooler. Total cost $5704.65 with system being eligible for $1750 in Tax Credits and Rebates. We were a brand new company. We were her lowest bid. We gave her an additional $500 off the original estimate as, being brand new, lining up work was difficult. She accused one of the installers of stealing something from her garage that day. 4/28/2010 – She called me and complained the cooler cap was too white and was blinding her. She also complained the condenser was too tall even though it is shorter than the cooler we removed. She also accused us of ‘bait and switch’ because, due to the construction of her house, we were not able to relocate her thermostat for her. We did say we would move her thermostat ‘if possible’ but when our installers got in her attic, it wasn’t possible. It is an older house with very limited crawl space in the attic. 5/4/2010 – I mailed her a packet of documents that included a.) an AHRI ratings certificate for tax credit purposes b.) a tax form sample with highlights showing how to claim the credit c.) a filled out application for the TEP rebate for her to sign and send in (addressed and stamped envelope as well) d.) warranty certificate for her system detailing warranty and restrictions e.) product registration confirmation (I registered her equipment for her on line as I do for all customers). I know she received this because I got confirmation from TEP that she had indeed claimed the rebate. Winter 2010 – She called and said she had a water pipe break. Said it was our fault. I explained that the heat pump is in no way tied into her plumbing and had nothing to do with her pipes freezing. 1/5/2011 – She called and said thermostat wasn’t working. Sent technician out. It was working fine. He walked her through it (as she was on the day of the install). No charge. 1/6/2011 – Called again for same reason. I suggested she try the 1-800 number on the instruction manual as clearly our technician wasn’t able to sufficiently explain the thermostat to her. She called back and told me the thermostat people were amazingly helpful compared to MVP and she would never call us again. 4/2/2011 – We performed a checkup on this system. Operation normal. No charge. 6/23/11 – She e-mailed me because she was doing her taxes but didn’t have the certificate and didn’t know where to claim the credit. I e-mailed her back a copy of the certificate and other tax information I had mailed her previously. She let me know at this time that her system wasn’t cooling sufficiently. I e-mailed her back to set up an appointment and get a technician out there immediately. Her response was ‘cooler will not be needed in November’. I have no idea what that meant because it was June. 6/27/2011 – Technician goes out, diagnoses, and replaces faulty TXV valve under warranty and wraps new bulb with cork tape. System operating normal. No charge. Aug 2011 – We were called out by her neighbor who was house sitting for her with regards to a ‘water leak’. We found an issue with the condensate pump and resolved it. No charge. 5/29/2012 – I hadn’t heard from her since previous summer. I e-mailed her to let her know I would like to send a technician out for a checkup. No response. I also called her and left a voicemail. No call returned. 3/7/2013 – She called stating her system wouldn’t run. Our technician found that her breaker was turned off (not tripped). No charge for call. Did a checkup. Operation normal. At this time she again complained about the thermostat location and also accused us of ‘stealing’ the white insulation off of the refrigerant lines while she was gone. The insulation used on the refrigerant lines is black and has always been black. 3/11/2013 - We installed a wireless thermostat for her for free (retail value $350) so she could take it with her around the house and set the temperature to her liking in whichever room she was in at the time. 3/17/2013 – 3/22/2013 – I received a series of e-mails from her complaining about our use of ‘toxic’ cork tape on her air handler making it unsafe to operate the system. I also received a hand written letter expressing the same concerns. Cork tape is very commonly used for AC installation and is not toxic. I e-mailed her the MSDS which essentially says it is only toxic if you eat it. Nevertheless, we went out and removed the cork tape from her air handler. System operating normally. No charge. 6/16/2013 – She called and said system wasn’t working. We went out and found the condensate pump had been moved and the tubing was kinked causing the water to back up and the drain alert to shut down the system. It wasn’t like this when we left 3 months prior. Again system operating normal. No charge. 6/17/2013 – Went back out to follow up. System operating normally. No charge. 8/5/2013 – She calls and expresses that she wants her whole house to be 72 degrees but the system won’t do it. We go out and find that she is taking a hand held thermometer from room to room and complaining that every room is not the same temperature (which is the case for every house in the world due to windows, orientation, and leakage). So when it is 72 at the thermostat it is 74 in the den, 73 in one bedroom, 75 in another bedroom etc. This is perfectly normal. System operating normal. No charge. 8/21/2013 – we get called out and go through the exact same thing. No charge. 10/26/2013 – I get a call (Saturday Night) that her system isn’t working and accusing us of stealing her flashlight on the previous visit. We go out and the system is working, but there is a code that indicates the fan motor may have an issue. 10/28/2013 – we go out and replace the fan motor under warranty and inform her to not call us again as I am not comfortable sending my technicians out and having them accused of stealing. Now in her review she implies that we also took her contract. That make 4x we have been accused of stealing which coincidentally is the only 4x in the history of our company. Our warranty states that we will do periodic maintenance on the system for free for 2 years. After that it is the customer’s discretion to pay for periodic maintenance to keep the labor warranty valid. This customer has never lived up to that obligation and yet we have performed upwards of $1500-$2000 in free parts and labor in an effort to keep her happy. It was only after the 3rd accusation of stealing that I, as the owner, said enough is enough. We have multiple reviews on Angie’s List that show we will do whatever it takes to satisfy the customer. We pride ourselves on living up to our end of the contract. We do what we say we are going to do and if there ever is an issue we are responsive and go above and beyond to resolve it. I know we are not perfect and I’d be curious to know what exactly this other company found that we couldn’t find as a learning experience. Jeff Vogler

Service technician was very professional. He explained the AC problem and calmed my concern that the problem was with the entire AC unit. He suggested the basic thermostat as a cost savings, but I asked for information about upgrading th the NEST digital thermostat. He provided detailed information in a simplified manner, but explained that installation would have to be the next day since he did not have access to one then (Sunday). The next morning the thermostat wasinstalled and the technician took the time to walk me through the control system and showed how simple the process would be (even for me). He answered all questions professionally and patiently. I am not used to such professionalism and customer care as I experienced with MVP. There is no doubt in my mind that I will use this company again in the future. In fact, they will be the first company I call when our ould system finally dies on us.
Description of Work: Checked non-functioning AC and identified problem as faulty thermostat. I requested upgrade to NEST thermostat which was installed early the next day.

I was lucky to find this guys. Over a year ago my the air cond company I was using was about to charge me $2000.00 to fix my unit. I decided to get a second and third opinion and as you can see below, MVP saved me a lot of money. My air conditioning unit has been heating instead of cooling so last year MVP came out to fix it. He told me the other tech was wrong. He found out the circuit board was bad so since a board costs about $420 Danny the tech helped me out by bypassing the board putting the unit in cold. I only had to pay the service call about $50 instead of $420. Six months later I had them install the board when I got the money and they did not charge me any labor! This last time the unit went back to heating when it is supposed to cool again. They came back out and found the board is still good but the thermostat is probably bad. So they installed a new thermostat worth about $370 and did not charge me anything. When we are sure it was the thermostat, THEN they will charge me for it or suggest one that is cheaper or even better. They are very fun to work with and are great helping me save money.

Excellent experience start to finish. My roof-top house AC stopped cooling on a hot Tucson evening. In the morning I made an appointment with MVP after trying other Angie's recommended HVAC shops that were tied up. Serviceman Danny came just before earliest possible appointment time and went straight to work diagnosing the problem. I had already put up the ladder, so we climbed to the roof and he was quickly able to see that the condenser fan wasn't coming on. He tested the capacitor and found it to be faulty, replaced it with stock from his truck, and the fan came on immediately. While I breathed a big sigh of relief, Danny checked out the amperage load used by the fan (normal) and also tested the refrigerant pressure (excellent). For a 10 year old machine it looks to be in good shape and it began cooling the house before we got off the roof. From initial call to dispatcher, same-day appointment, right on time arrival of serviceman (who was affable yet professional and happy to answer my questions), good luck on replacement part in the truck, quick check of additional possible problems, buttoning -up and writing-up invoice: EVERYTHING WENT LIKE CLOCKWORK! I paid by Visa and got Danny's phone number for future reference. Price was cheaper than a trip to the doctor -- and the Doc doesn't make house-calls! I know this wasn't a big job or a tough job, but I am totally satisfied with this outfit, MVP. If this is typical of their service, I'm a long-term customer. Cheers, Grant M.

They had to reschedule the first appointment made because of vehicle problem. They showed up promptly and their technicians were professional. The technician recommended a custom filter for our one house and put the size on the receipt. I made the mistake of trusting his measurements and ordered a metal filter and it wound up being 1/2" too wide which cost me a great deal of time to get fixed and $20. But other than that they seemed knowledgable. The weren't pushy sales people like I've had with other AC companies trying to get you on a service agreement.

The MVP folks showed up when they said that they would. They inspected our A/C, made sure that the 2 units were operating well, and added freon that was needed. Their price is much better on Freon than competitors. They were very professional and efficient. They were very polite and didn't leave any mess following their work. They also were done in about an hour. I would very much recommend them and will use them again.

Description of Work: The MVP representatives and technicians were professional, attentive, and efficient. From the initial meeting until the instalation of my new heating/ac unit, I could not have secured a better company with which to work. I contatced 4 different businesses before I chose MVP. One treated me as if I did not know the subject matter even though I had done extensive research. Others, did not mention the discounts that were available even though the local newspaper advertisments had been recently published.

We had a couple of HVAC companies come out to give an estimate to replace our two HVAC systems at our home and possibly the hot water heaters too. Clay from MVP came out and checked the existing units, we then talked about 3 different possibilities and he wrote up a bid for those three. The next day Jeff and Danny came back to measure the house to do Heat & Cooling Load Calculations, which are required by the county for the Mechanical Permit. After much investigating (brand, one vs two vs variable speed, SEER and EER) we decided on the one we thought we'd be most happy with. We choose MVP to do the work and scheduled a day for the HVAC systems to be installed (and the hot water heaters too). Danny and Joe and two other men (sorry, forgot their names) came as scheduled. They removed the old systems and installed the new ones. They hauled away the old systems and cleaned up after themselves. The MVP crew was very meticulous and professional about their work.Even the Building Code Inspector was impressed by the work that was done. And, it's peace of mind knowing that MVP cover the system and their work with 12 years parts and labor. We're extremely happy that we choose MVP, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone! We just love our new system!!
