in Nov.2015 company installed hot water recirculating pump and set it to be running 24/7. I was not informed of that fact nor was I instructed on operation. There was no booklet. I was not aware that I could set the times I wanted it to run.? When I noticed that my electric bill were going up by 33% - 38% from previous year I discovered the problem. I contacted company and asked them for refund on increase. they refused. In April 2016 company sent tech to service units as part of package I paid for. Tech kept telling me that I needed ?anew this or that ?Told me that I needed 2 new metal filters at a cost of $95 each. I called another company for a quote on the filters. It was $25 each. I called competitor to check system when 1 of the units would not go on. I was told that a wire was left unconnected and that was reason for problem . He said that any tech that looked at this unit would have to see the problem unless he disconnected it. I was charged $145 for call. Since Orangutan was last company service unit I asked them to pay $145 charge. They refused.
Description of Work: did service call and quoted me 3 x the price that I got from competitor. installed hot water pump without informing me of operation.

I have a service contract with Orangutan which is the only reason I have any contact with them. I can honestly say that at least 5 times they did not show up for a scheduled service appt. nor did they give a call to cancel. This behavior is the pattern they are consist with. I'm not fond of saying this, but the truth is they have lied repeatedly over and over again. You want to trust and believe, but the facts are the facts. Orangutan is disgraceful, lacks any integrity, and are the most unprofessional. A couple of years ago one of their own employees told they lied to me. Clearly she was the only one with a conscience. She no longer works there. If you read the reviews, you can see a pattern. In business you have a choice to provide service to the best of your ability, and while some customers can be difficult, but this is not case nor the norm with Orangutan. They dupe, misled, and deceive the customers. If you choose Orangutan for you air or heating needs rest assure you will be scammed. Norma hung up on me, very professional, because I called her out on her lies. I left a message for the manager and my call was never be returned. Curious, they always manage to have your phone number for their cold calls, but never have I received a call for their no shows on appointments. Orangutan has a complete disregard for their customers, and clearly only have growth to stay in business by tricking new unsuspecting customers. As a consumer I do expect basic common courtesy, truthfulness and a willingness to take responsibility for failures or shortcoming. You won't find any of these qualities at Orangutan. Many reviews on the internet have a message for you, as do I. Do your research throughly. "Don't walk, RUN"!
Description of Work: The service contract was included in the buying of a new A/C unit. Did NOT show up for scheduled appointment. Did NOT call. X 5 times.

They were a little pricey. They were expensive most of the time, it seems as if they always found something whether you had problems with it or not. For the AC and heater they always came out right away. They did good work and always showed up on time that's why I stayed with them for as long as I did. Their workers were friendly and they never made a mess. They should lower the price on parts.

The gas co. tech tightened one screw that stopped the small leak. He said we do not need a new valve, and the service man from Orangutan probably loosened the screw to create the leak. They new there was little chance of danger, and that was why they didn't respond to follow up on servicing . We wrote to them on 12/18/15 to get our $700 back and a prorated refund on the three years remaining on our $1260 service contract, and they have refused to pay. We explained that we felt their shoddy work was nothing more than a scam, and we could no longer trust them. A refund was certainly in order.
Description of Work: Charged us $700.00 for a $200,00 and something gas valve, then wouldn't come to install it. After we made several calls to get service, their tech showed up with the wrong part. We had our local gas company check the danger level of our home.

My experience with this company has been mixed. About 1/3 of the times that I have maintenance done, an older technician comes and he seems to work efficiently and check out multiple things. However, it has been annoying that the technician usually takes a hose from my irrigation system to wash the exterior unit (I have a split system) and does not reconnect it, so that I have water over the yard when the irrigation system comes one if I do not check and reconnect the hose. The other 2/3 of the maintenance visits, a younger technician comes who is primarily a salesman. These technicians do a minimal check of my unit and then try to pressure me to buy another of their products. Another problem that I have had with this company is that their record keeping is not very good. The last time I renewed the maintenance contract with them (before I was an Angie's list member), the renewal date indicated that the contract expired 8/13/15 but the office claimed that it expired 8/13/13. Because of the unpleasantness dealing with the office, I had missed some of the maintenance visits. On the last maintenance visit, I had to show the technician the contract.
Description of Work: I have had a service contract on my Trane heat pump with this company for 12 years. The only reason that I started the contract with this company is that it was the one that the previous owner used and I did not know what other company to consider (I was not a member of Angie's List then).

I scheduled to have Orangutan home services meet me between 8am-noon on Saturday, 6/20. At 1pm, after no contact by the technician, I contacted the scheduler and was told it would be "closer to 5pm - but they would be there." At 4:45pm I called the scheduler and they told me "sorry, we will have to reschedule but you will be first appointment on Monday, 6/22." On Monday, my wife waited at the house until 2:30pm before receiving a call from the technician that he could not make it because he was overworked with lots of calls. I contacted the schedule again and was told the earliest they could reschedule me would be Saturday, 6/20 between 8-noon. On Thursday, 6/18 my AC unit went on the fritz and stopped working. The scheduler said the first they could get anyone to look at my unit would be on Saturday still but since its not working now - they will have to charge me a trip charge since trip charges aren't part of the free routine maintenance package that I have. Okay - again, I waited all day Saturday, and finally got a call from the technician at 8:30pm saying he was "across town on Oracle road and would need to reschedule. He promised that I would be first seen on Monday 6/22. We shall see.

Never trust an Orangutan service person. When he arrived, I had two working air conditioning units, when he left neither worked and he had no intention of ever returning, Our home has two air conditioning units; a new one we bought from Orangutan almost 3 years ago, and an old one that's 19 years old and ready to be replaced when it dies. The Orangutan serviceman came for the semi-annual service on the new unit and, of course, wanted to check the old unit as well. Against my better judgment, I let him open up the old unit. Although it appeared to be working fine, he said it was drawing more amperage than it should and the capacitors were shot. He said he would replace the capacitors for free if I were to renew the maintenance contact on the new unit for $540. When I refused he went into a hard sell on why I needed the maintenance contract. I didn't bite. As he was getting ready to leave, I checked the old unit and found the fan was not moving and it was getting hot. He looked at it but had no explanation as to why it was working when he arrived and not working when he was leaving Later I noticed he hadn't put the circuit breaker back on the new unit after his inspection either. Bottom line, when he arrived I had two working air conditioning units, when he left neither was working. Fraud or coincidence, you judge.

Contacted them at a Home Depot store, estimate received and order placed in 2011. In hindsight I paid to much but that's my fault for not getting other quotes. Install went well everyone was friendly and appeared to be competent. One year later system did not cool well service tech found low freon, leaking Schrader valve, not under warranty $100/# 2# required but no service call charged. Next issue was drain pan level switch, tech said wrong kind for application and disconnected it, no charge. Summer 2014 triple digit temperatures unit quits, tech arrives late in afternoon, that was OK but tech had no knowledge, turns out he wasn't really a service tech but just did inspections. I led him through some trouble shooting steps and he decided that the control board needed replaced. It took four (4) days to get the part and schedule a service call. We had to move out because it was to hot to stay in the house. The installer checked and found a short at the condenser unit which had also taken out the control transformer, this part he had on the truck. Next during monsoon season unit kept cutting out, tech found that condensate drain was not correct and was plugged. I fixed that myself but water had over flowed and soaked gas valve and manifold. .November 3rd tried to run furnace to check for winter, burner would not light service tech found gas valve & manifold bad, parts ordered 11/4/14. Furnace still not fixed as of 11/16 and no date set for parts arrival and service call to install.

Very unhappy with the knowledge and the customer service. Will never use them again and will not recommend them to anyone!
Description of Work: After installing a new AC unit 6 years ago we are now being told that our return duct is not large enough. We have been trying to resolve this issue with company since July and so far have had 5 service calls and no repair. I have had to call and call each time to get them to continue the process.

Orangutan did a shameful job replacing my air conditioning unit. I selected Orangutan because I was impressed by the professional sales guy. Furthermore, It was June, they could install our new A/C unit the next day, and that is what mattered most to me. Shame on me for not giving more credence to the AL reviews! The service was to include a new air conditioning unit on our patio, an air handler in our crawl space upstairs, and a new grate which holds the air filter. The installation itself seemed to go smoothly. However, the unit stopped working in the middle of the night a few days later! After some troubleshooting, I bypassed the water sensor in the condenser pan which got the unit working again. While up there, I also noticed an opening in the air handler through which cold air was being wasted. I could tell that this opening had been taped over by the installer, but the tape had failed and became a useless flap. A technician came out the next day to diagnose the issue. He determined that the air handler wasn?t installed properly; it should have been placed a couple inches higher to allow condensation to drain properly. I was flabbergasted that a professional installer could install the unit too low and inhibit the drainage of condensation! I scheduled a service call for the following Saturday afternoon for another technician to resolve the issue. So Saturday afternoon rolls around and they forget about us! After three conversations with the after-hours scheduling person, a manager finally called me. Somehow they didn't have record of my appointment. He was able to send somebody out late. In fairness, the technician who came out was a real champ. He seems to me the only Orangutan employee who is knowledgeable and takes pride in his work. He stayed well past midnight to raise the air handler and mount it on rubber blocks (It was previously mounted on 2x4s which is no bueno). He also sealed off the hole in our air handler. Now onto the grate that holds the air filter: The guys who installed my unit didn't install the grate instructed me to call and have it scheduled. The scheduling was a nightmare. I scheduled for August 4 and nobody showed. I re-scheduled for August 20. Nobody showed again!!! Beside myself now I called and raised a bit of a fuss. I got an apologetic call from the owner of Orangutan but he didn't seem all that interested in hearing me out about my whole experience. As I recall, people at Orangutan tended to blame the problem on the 3rd party people they use to install the grates. Eventually the grate was installed, but there are a couple screws sticking out and I really have to bang on my air filter to get it in! One day I'll get up there and fix it, but I'm done with Orangutan! During this ordeal, I lost faith in Orangutan. I had serious concerns about whether my unit was installed in such a way that might affect its long-term performance. The unit I purchased is a Trane. I reached out to Trane out to see if they can inspect the installation. It is in their interest to ensure that their units are properly installed, right? They responded with a terse email directing me to work with Orangutan. Frustrated, I hired an independent installer to inspect my unit. He gave it the green light.

Orangutan initalled installed a new A/C UNIT in 2004. No problems w/roof leaking into Master Bedroom ceiling. However, several service calls for repairs to unit in years up to October 2010. As a result of damage in the hail storm of October 5, 2010, Orangutan replaced/repaired several supply guards, lines, coils, etc., on November 24, 2011, plus additional items/service June 27,201l. In August of 2011 an audit of the A/C system was completed by APS and all duct work was clean and sealed, and additional insulation was blown into the Attic. At that time it was determined that there were several "openings" around the A/C Unit, as well as penetrations into the roof that had not been sealed properly after the Hail storm work on the A/C and the penetrations through the roof. Orangutan again did a maintenance on the A/C Unit on May 31, 2012, . Water marks appeared on the Master Bedroom ceiling in May of 2011. Insurance Adjuster reviewed roof and could find no obvious entry place for the water to enter. After each rainfall, January 2012, January 2013 the water marks on the ceiling continued to expand. Again an Insurance Adjuster neglected to properly inspect area around the A/C unit to find any possible entry for the water to enter. January 2014 the water marks on the ceiling expanded even more. Orangutan did an inspection on March 5, 2014, added longer legs on the A/C support frame and resealed roof penetrations. Photos tracking the progression of the water damage are available. In late May, as the roof had been corrected and "sealed", we contacted a painter to repair the Bedroom ceiling, and paint the Bedroom ceiling and walls. We placed a call to Orangutan letting them know the results of their poor workmanship and attention to finishing their work properly. the cost would be $2,483.77 to repair damage and paint. Peter, I believe was the gentleman, who then passed us on to someone who yelled and said they wouldn't do anything, and Orangutan had not been at the house in 10 years and hung up. I called several times, the last time June 9, 2014 talked to "Breanna" who said the Manager could not take the call, but would call on June 10th. Of course, he did not call...and I do not have a name! The ceiling was repaired, painted and completed on June 20, 2014 cost: $2,483.77 On August 1, 2014 during a heavy downpour, the Bedroom ceiling "opened up, and the water poured into the pails, plastic sheets, etc placed on the floor; and again on August 2nd and 4th. Called the Insurance carrier, Farmers, and again an adjuster visited to determine entry of water, but again no decision as to correction as he found no obvious "hole" where the rain water could enter. An A/C service was called in to inspect the situation. He found endless number of items resulting from poor workmanship, shoddy "sealing" of areas where pipes/wires entered the roofing material, etc., etc, He also suggested a certified roofer inspect the roof for compliance and workmanship. The cost for correcting/replacing poor workmanship on both the A/C unit and the penetrations into the roof now are estimated to be $1500.00 and roughly $11,000.00, after 4 years to total neglect! Roof replacement is due to water leaking onto the underlayment for 4 years. \RG Smith
Description of Work: On annual service call, under maintenance contract, recommended Zero Ice to be added to extend performance of A/C unit. On follow-up call 3/25/2014, Added longer leg on stand and re-sealed roof penetrations.

Very displeased and feeling duped, I call Feb. 9th to Orangutang and speak with store manager Jerry who promises me he will talk with the general manager (Mark Stoltz) and get back to me on Monday Feb. 11th - he never called back and never responded to my voice messages. I have left 2 voice messages to the general manager and have not heard back. I want my $49 refunded back to me. The technician mislead me, and I was duped into believing I had a serious situation that needed immediate repair and replacement. It cost me an additional $75 to find out nothing was wrong with my water heater (but at least I didn't write Orangutang a check for $1600 for a new water heater). The whole thing stinks and with no one returning my calls but having quickly cashed my check, I question their business practices and certainly their follow through with customer service and complaints. Orangutang gladly comes out to inspect your plumbing or AC/Heater but then gives you a story about how you need to replace your system. Seems they are more interested in the big bucks than honesty and truly taking care of their customers - of which I will never be in the future. Follow Up: They did eventually refund me back my $49.00
Description of Work: Orangutang Plumbing division was running a special for inspection of water heater and pipes at $49. They never showed up for our scheduled date, rescheduled appointment. Technician came out boasting of his 20 years in the business. He was supposed to flush the water heater but said he could not turn the valve (was using a coin instead of a screwdriver). He said because the valve would not turn that I had sediment in the tank, it was very dangerous, the system could explode, I needed to replace the water heater immediately (they could sell me one for $1600) Because I have a home warranty policy, I immediately call them for their inspector to come out (another $75 service fee). The other technician comes out, turns the valve open (did use a screwdriver and not a coin) and the water flushed out just fine from the water heater tank. Orangutang technician also tested my water in the kitchen and said my system was not filtering out all the minerals. (I had just had this done 6 days earlier from the water softener company and all was fine, water purity excellent through my RO system).

We had been going back and forth between whether or not to get a new AC unit for about four months. We received four estimates, and Orangutan (they have a stand at home depot) always came back with the lowest price and was very patient with our waffling. We were a bit hesitant to go with the lowest bid as we tend to go for the upper-middle- but are so happy we went with them. From the beginning to the end they have been dependable, professional and clean. The unit (Lennox) was installed the day after payment and the process was explained every step of the way. Aside from the new unit we also got "Aeroseal". Our duct work is about 30 years old, and one half of the house had low air output due to gaps and holes in the ductwork. Aeroseal took care of these holes and with the new unit and the aeroseal we have noticed a marked improvement on the output. We would definitely use Orangutan again and will recommend them to all of our friends.

I called Home Depot Home Services they connected me to Orangutan Home Services because I had warmer rooms on one side of the house . James the salesman came out, he went in the attic and showed me a U tube video from This Old House thus new method to cool down warmer rooms using aero seal he told me that it would work and I took his word of Orangutan Home Services that this solution would work . I got a 24 month credit loan with Home Depot . I was giving it some time for it to work but I noticed no difference AREO SEAL DID NOT WORK!!!! and I'm down $2,300 for a product they pushed on me right away. I called Orangutan today 8-23-14 and a tech came out and said the aero seal helps out but was not the answer in cooling the warmer rooms. He said that I needed a duct reconfiguration to better cool down the house witch would cost me more money app: $1500.00 I looked on Orangutan Facebook site and had lots of customers that were unhappy . Home Depot you should be a shame of directing customers to Orangutan Home Services

Thursday afternoon Ju;ly 3 plumber arrived and checked the hot water heater. Said the thermo couple was bad and part could not be obtained. Asked if it was OK to come back on Monday. I agreed. He arrived punctually on Monday and replaced the part. After an hour of trying we checked the gas meter and found the shutoff valve for two units had been closed. So the replacement of the thermo couple was not needed even though he said it was bad. I called their office and lodged a complaint. So far no one has contacted me.

When we put in our new air conditioning in 2008, we purchased the air conditioning through Home Depot and Orangutan was the one that they had installed it. We took a contract with them because that's where our maintenance contract is, we just stayed with them. Everything has been covered but we will have to start paying for them now and I don't know what the charges are. I would not use them again once my contract's done because I just don't think they're really thorough. The guy has been nice but the guy who came down the last time climbed up on our roof and gone down through the vent into the back of the air conditioner. That freaked him out. He had my husband get him there and take him out. I just don't have the same feeling about them I do with other places.

It did not go well. I believe the reps name was Ron. he sat with us and discussed various model and prices of new A/C. Ours are over 20 years old so it is definitely time. The prices were very high, really high. I had some papers from another Company on my table and he actually picked them us and started reading. I asked to please don"t do that and 10 minutes later he picked up all of them. I told him it was a violation of my privacy and to please do not pick them up again. He was very pushy and kept telling which unit was the best for our house. The unit was approx $12,000 and that was only for one unit. They had lower priced units but, he said they are really not that great. They work with Home Depot which is another bad write up.

I have a new home built in 2010 with a Carrier Split system. 1. 4/23/2012 - I bought the 5-YR VIP Service Plan, Maintenance & Cleaning Program for $780.00. I called for the $39.99 AC check to discover this covered nothing. Services rendered: Installed Run capaciter ($122.00), Indoor/Outdoor Coil Clean ($196.00), AC check ($39.99). According to the tech these were all needed services and new homes do not have good AC/Heating units and in order to make my system last I needed the run capaciter. By purchasing the maintenance program all this would be covered in the $780.00. 2. 11/17/2012 - A/C check; Heating (5-YR plan on invoice now sells for $735); System checked out OK. 3. 6/10/2013 - A/C check - Advised to install Start Assist ($222.00) ; 45/5 Run Capaciter needed to be replaced (Labor only $75.00) part was under warrenty. So much for labor being covered only includes diagnosic labor. 4. 11/4/2013 - A/C check/ Heating check. System checked out OK. 5. 11/25/2013 - Unit would not turn on. Service tech arrived in AM as promised. Had to replace Voltage transformer ($279.65) due to power surge. No other appliances were affected by this power surge just the heat pump! Supposedly the jets flying over my house or the recent storm may have caused this. They also want to sell my a surge protector for $500.00, I declined. I should also mention when the service tech is here for an appointment I have been asked to purchase other services Orangutan offers and then I am soliciated for weeks afterwards about a special offer. This company seems to more interested in selling than providing service. I strongly advise not hiring this company. Also never had the same service tech twice. So in 2yrs I've spent $1,388.98 on a system just 3 yrs old.

I have a contract with the company therefore I pay less for repairs and service. They are fine. I really have no complaints about them. They respond when I ask them to respond. My furnace is only 7 years old and this is the first year it has needed service outside of yearly checkups. I do not know if they are the same people as 2 years ago. The name was changed at that time. I know that they also work with Home Depot.
Description of Work: Restart furnace which seem to be affected by a wire.

The cost was approximately $100- $150 more than any other bid I received. When I called the plumber with this information, he informed me that he would just dump off my water heater and said that I could sue him. Not once did I mentioned suing anyone.. He was very confrontational and disrespectful. He went back to my home and yelled at my husband, refused to finish anything and left. I would not recommend him to anyone ever.
Description of Work: provider,Dave, was called to replace a 2 yr old water heater that was under manufactor warranty.

$550

Response from Orangutan Home Services
We found a water heater leaking. We quoted $550 for a new water heater change-out with new ball valve and flex lines. The husband agreed to the price so we drained the tank and took to distributor and was coming out to the house with the replacement unit when they called to cancel the job. Tech had to return the new tank, recovered the old tank, and bring it back to their home. Total fee for all the work done by Orangutan was $170. She told tech she worked for Chase and found someone else to do it cheaper over the phone for $350.00. Customer stated she was going to sue us because we were trying to rip her off because she got someone to quote her less.

Had I not been wary of this company I would have been out $1400.00. I will report them to the BBB. The tech said that he could "throw in" the motor AND a new thermostat. That is because they price gouge. The price for the module (had I actually needed it) was $500 and it takes about 10 minutes to replace it. But because they "bundle" like prices, it was in the bucket for the 2nd highest price service they offer. I called the company to complain and they assured me someone would call. Instead I have had a call from two guys to see how satisfied I was with the service. I'm trying to cancel the service plan that I bought from them a year ago. I will NOT do business with this company again and will also contact Home Depot about this situation.
Description of Work: Be very wary of this company! They sent out a very junior tech that said that I needed a ACM variable speed control module. Because of the outragous price, I contacted Howard Air. And I did NOT need the module or anything! There was a loose connection to the thermostat. Howard Air only charged me for the service call.

Sorry to hear about your experience. The technician at your home Michael was a graduate from a local HVAC school and was new with the company. Not all techs have the same experience and I’m sorry if this technician made a mistake on his diagnosis. If he went forward with the motor replacement the unit would have still failed and we would have surely found the mistake made and corrected the issue and refunded for the motor. I see we did issue a refund for your maintenance program. The technician at your home was a new employee with only one year experience out of school and he is no longer employed by our company.

I recommended them to someone else. They're excellent. Fantastic group. I have no problems with them at all. If I called them today, I'd be surprised if they weren't able to come by the end of the week - even if it was for my furnace in winter.
Description of Work: They put in a new A/C unit for us. It was the A/C in the garage. They spent at least 2 hours installing the new unit.
