Description of Work: Orangutan performed our new HVAC home unit install four years ago, and we have a maintenance warranty through them as well. They schedule visits each year to perform maintenance on our unit. After four years, we have learned that they are usually very late, or even do not show up on the scheduled day. Also, their technicians are encouraged to up-sale parts or extras to customers that either should have been installed initially, or are of dubious use. They do perform their actual HVAC service well, and they are usually able to repair our unit when their is a problem.

Description of Work: Prior to buying a home our home inspector recommended a full evaluation of our AC because it was barely meeting expected output. We paid Orangutan to come evaluate the unit and asked that they confirm the system should have no major issues for 2-3 years, they came on June 11, 2015. They said it looked great and offered 2 home improvements, duct ceiling and added insulation to the attic. After purchasing the home we did both, install date was Aug 21, 2014 cost was $5k. On Aug 27th the system stopped working. It was over 100 degrees that day. I contacted Orangutan and they stated it was more the allowed time past the date of inspection and I would have to agree to the standard fees for them to come look at the system. As I'd just given them $5k I refused and found a new AC technician I could trust. The problem was that the fan that was on the system wasn't factory. Someone had swapped it out. We had to pay around $450 for a new motor that could support the fan on it (4 blade vs 3 blade, something I'd think a trained technician would catch when asked to confirm the system was to standard). Even after contacting the BBB the Orangutan owner felt that the issue was not his technician's fault and refused to aid in recovering costs. I'll never use this company again nor recommend it to anyone.

Description of Work: Need a new A/C unit, and neighbor recommended Carlos Gallardo from Orangutan, associated with Home Depot. Carlos sold me a new unit and added yearly free checkups. The unit was pricey but my old one had a one-year warranty and this one has a 10 year on all parts and systems. They are actually coming today for the first "checkup." Nice work.

Description of Work: Total replacement of all air ducts, registers, etc. New 13 sere combo electric/gas AC/HV unit. | |I have had a maintenance agreement with Orangutan for several years and two other complete new units. I know I am paying a bit for the "convenience" AND they responded within hours and got the work done the next day. There was a late start due to a company meeting, but the workmen stayed late until the job was finished.

Description of Work: On 7/29/14 they came out to repair inop a/c system that they installed three years ago and it has failed every year. They sent a "qualified" tech who mis-diagnosed the problem. On 7/30 they sent another tech who "seemingly" diagnosed the problem as a bad expansion valve that frequently fails. He said he had to order the part. Orangutan called & said the part would not be in for a week. That was an outright lie because when contacted the next day their supplier said he had two of the needed parts available in stock. I got nothing but "lip service" from their office and my a/c unit was down for 5 days in July when it could have easily been repaired the first visit. On 8/2 when they finally dispatched a qualified tech, he found that the problem was a bad contactor which could have easily been replaced the first day. One of their employees, who shall remain nameless, said my job was warranty work and they don't make as much from warranty work so it is a low priority. How's that for customer service? I documented my experience and sent a letter to their "Customer Service Manager" Jason Parker, and I didn't even get the common courtesy of a return response let alone an apology. I have a documented chronology of events for this experience that I recorded as the situation evolved. I kept this record because of similar experiences with them each of the past two years.

Description of Work: Convinced us that A/C would not last much longer due to amps draw and that we needed to replace. When new unit was installed (6-16)it lasted till 6-20 and began blowing hot air. Tech arrived and replaced Op-Cap. but did not measure outlet temp at registers, as most have done previously, and departed. 30 min later was still blowing hot air. Called to report problem. Was told that they would contact tech and have him return. Never returned. appox. 30 hours after first call regarding warm air blowing, and numerous irate calls because of unresponsiveness, tech finally arrived and replaced a second Op-Cap. Said the last cap was fine and left, again without verifying outlet temps. | |Feel that technicians are pressured to sell-sell-sell. Latest pitch is for their ADT security system. Will not be renewing my preventive maintenance agreement.

Description of Work: This is for the 5 year maintenance program. Orangutan comes out twice a year to service air conditioning and heating. Sometimes the call late for the year halfway through the season. Some of the technicians try to do an up-sell with unneeded items and they always mention your unit getting old. (they want to trade out your system) My hvac is only 7 years old and in top condition.
