Description of Work: We contracted Legacy to build a guest house for us in 2013. They competed the job in June of 2014. They did build us a very high quality building. They have very good workmen who did a good job. They are quite high price to begin with but the final cost was almost 20% over there original bid. The engineer they assigned to the project screwed up a number of times and that led to approximately double the time to complete the project and his lack of knowledge about the code requirements led to much of the cost overrun. The project manager assigned to us knew his job and managed the work well. He was, however, hard to work with and we had a number of problems. The bottom line is that we have a good building and that is the most important thing.

Description of Work: These guy were good, a father and son team that did all the work themselves, so they did not sub-out any of the work. The quality of the work is quite good, but it took much longer than I expected, but for me, it was worth the wait for the quality. They helped me find many fixtures for a bathroom and had a good eye for design and was able to re-do my master and guest bath in a style that I wanted. They also did a great job painting! They also fixed a few in unexpected things too! They were responsible, professional, and stand behind their work. These guys can basically do it all.

Response from Legacy Design Build Remodeling
It's unfortunate that Legacy can't balance every client's budget with their remodeling ideas. We employ a consultative selling approach that affords our clients the ability to work directly with our designers to create a concept that fits within their budget.

Description of Work: I had Legacy come give me a bid for a kitchen remodel. They guy sold me h****** himself, and at first I was impressed but then he never actually gave me a bid. He just told me to call him if I was interested. I felt the follow up and responsiveness was lacking and I was worried about the overall cost. I did not go with this general contractor. I ended up doing the GC myself.

Response from Legacy Design Build Remodeling
Legacy's design and building services are best suited to those individuals who need design assistance & don't want to serve as their own general contractors - creating the design, obtaining building permits, interviewing & selecting subcontractors & supervising the work. Our project consultants work with clients to identify their remodeing priorities & budgets in order to create the best projects for the money. This consultative design process requires the expertise of multiple team members, as well as sophisticated design & estimating software, involving many hours' worth of work. In addition, Legacy adheres to all municipal permitting & building code requirements. In talking with these clients, our project consultant learned that they weren't interested in obtaining the necessary permits and that their cost expectations were unrealistic.

Greg showed up late and got right down to talking about joining the "Legacy family". He explained that they would do an analysis then go to the priorities phase where I would deposit "at least $8,000.00" and then they would fully quote everything and that would be the budget. I asked for numbers to build a 3 car garage and he immediately went back to describing the "family" and that they would draw down from the money I put up for the project. I asked him "are you saying that I will have to pay in advance for the work and you will draw down on the money as it progresses?"..he made a few vague statements and I asked him again "Is the upfront money like a retainer to be used and replenished?"... again no answer. I asked him for a ballpark on the cost to put in the garage and was told that I would need to put up money to find out the cost, but that the money that I put up would go against the project in question. At that point I said "Stop! You are not answering my questions and that is not acceptable, I need a clear explanation of costs or we go no further." He went back to the "family" thing and back to the statement that I would be able to see things in 3D, which was unacceptable. I have a CAD program and can make my own 3D drawings. He told me that since I was from out of town, he would need a live signature on the Project Analysis and Agreement to be able to give me any numbers and requested a check. At first he wanted $8,000 but lowered it to $2,000. I told him that I would sign the agreement to accommodate the "live signature" request, but that I would not give him a check unless and until I engaged Legacy. He left without a check ( I left one with my agent just in case I was mistaken). I reread the agreement that he had so quickly shoved in my face for a signature. HE NEGLECTED TO SAY THAT THE $2,000 WAS NON-REFUNDABLE. How convenient! I called him back that afternoon to tell him that I would not be proceeding and he called me back to say that he couldn't understand my message. I called him back and left a voice mail that I would not be proceeding and followed it up with and email. My experience with them was one of high pressure sales (like a used car salesman), a rote script, and refusal to quote any prices or estimates. Please, do yourself a favor and find a company that operates on full disclosure so that you don't have to be on alert. I joined Angie's List to avoid contractors like this. The experience was horrible- like being trapped,

There's no doubt that the Legacy team completely failed this client; and, as company president & owner, I'm completely appalled & embarrassed by learning of this individual's experience with our company. Fortunately, we can learn from these comments & strive to never repeat them.

The project was a great success. From the moment we called Legacy until the completion of the project, we felt we were dealing with honest, competent professionals who know their business. We felt listened to and responded to at all times. The company has excellent tools for designing and for estimating cost, and then for managing the project once it is begun. Legacy's own professionals seem top quality, and they also have excellent sub-contractors. Our project supervisor, Rick Rademaker, was outstanding. We had complete confidence in him, and knew that he would deal with all problems that came up competently and in our best interests. During the course of the project, we were able to add and delete some items from the original plan, and when we did we always knew exactly what the cost of doing so was before any commitment was made. Although we might have been able to get this project done for less money, we think every penny we spent was worth it!
Description of Work: Completely remodeled game room, laundry room, and master bath, including moving a wall between the game room and the laundry room. Replaced roof, windows, doors on the entire house. Added walled patio in front of house, with sidewalk to the street. Replaced exterior board-and-batten with stucco. Painted entire exterior. Added an air conditioning unit to improve heating and cooling in some areas of the house. Other minor improvements in the interior (refurbish flagstone floors, convert broom closet to linen closet, add a scuttle hole).

It went great. Our project team leaders Steve Price (designer) and Ed Becker (supervisor) were wonderful. Steve listened to all our concerns and so many great ideas we felt spoiled. We even changed the location of the addition at one point during the design phase, and we weren't charged any more for the new design work. When the construction started, Ed stayed on top of things and kept us informed the whole way, his good sense of humor helped us through some tough times living without a big part of our home! Some of the things we really appreciated were the written documentation, the regular weekly meetings and that our designer Steve stayed with the project until the very end. Legacy's subs and employees were great and our home was kept clean, although the electricians were slow and a bit messy sometimes. We are thrilled with our new space and would recommend Legacy to anyone (Especially Steve & Ed!!!)

It was a really big remodel, and I never moved out of the house. The construction guys cleaned up after themselves every day, and my dogs really miss their buddies now that the job is done. I knew up front what was going to happen each week, because we had weekly progress meetings. There were no nasty little surprises and everything happened on (or before) schedule. I told Steve, the designer, that his job was to edit me, since I tend to go over the top with color. He very tactfully did so, and gave me some excellent suggestions - I'm glad I listened to him! And when I had a problem with the granite fabricators installing the countertops, Marko got them on site the next day. Everybody in my office (yes, they all heard my irate phone call) now calls Marko "The Big Dog". I've done my share of remodeling before. I slept on the patio in July while my floors were tiled. I've begged the painters to come back and finish the job. But I've never been taken care of so completely. Thanks, guys!
Description of Work: I requested and got my Kitchen To Die For. My cramped, dated 1970s kitchen was removed, back to the roof joists and wall studs. I replaced it with a spacious and thoughtfully designed kitchen with all the storage and accessibility I could imagine (and some things I hadn't even thought of)! I had a long list of things I wanted and I think every one is in the finished kitchen. I am used to working with contracts at my place of employment, and I was gratified to find that Legacy works from a Statement of Work, a project plan, and a schedule. I requested that my kitchen be ready in time for Thanksgiving, even though the plan was for completion at the end of November. To my surprise, I was ready to cook a big dinner for all my guests on Thanksgiving day. My heartfelt thanks to Steve Price and Marko Sowa - they understand how hard it is to be without a kitchen. They really kept things rolling right along.

The Legacy team was outstanding. From the design phase through construction all of their representatives showed up on time and completed the work as desired and cleaned up before they left for the day. Steve Price did an outstanding job in the design of the remodel. Ed Fenney was the construction supervisor and was very good at completing the job on time and within the budgeted amount.

Could not be happier with the results. Steve Price's design was absolutely inspired. His amazing creativity and design expertise led him to propose innovative ideas we simply never would have thought of ourselves. Steve was extremely sensitive to our needs, and was responsive and customer-oriented throughout the project. His deep industry experience enabled him to consistently offer ingenious solutions to our more complicated requirements. Ed Becker, our project supervisor was also outstanding. He was in constant communication with us, letting us know what to expect, and worked very closely with the trades to ensure their work was performed to spec and on schedule. Ed's responsiveness, reliability, sense of humor, and professionalism were refreshing. Jim Prentiss was absolutely masterful in his crafstmanship and perfectionism while installing our cabinetry. Simply flawless. The rooms are absolutely stunning, the project completed on time, and it was an enjoyable process.

We were very impressed with Legacy from the first meeting. They are extremely organized in their process. The consultant (Greg Dumka)spent months iterating the computer design of our remodel until we had a design and a price we liked. The superintendent (Ian Cowan) and all of Legacy's crew were professional and helpful. If we made a design change, they were accommodating and only charged for additional materials. They bent over backwards to make sure we were happy with the results. The superintendent was an excellent manager and would easily change the subs schedules to get the most work accomplished to complete our job. They made us feel like our remodel was their number 1 project. If a sub left the job sight messy, they fined the sub and sent someone out to clean up the next day. They were consistently ahead of schedule and came in under budget. They were a pleasure to work with and made the months of remodeling turmoil a breeze.
Description of Work: Transferred our existing 3 car garage into living space and added additional square footage. Moved our front door. Moved existing interior walls. Built a new 3 car garage. Overall, 3 rooms and a bathroom added plus an updated look to the exterior. Our driveway, courtyard, and front landscaping were redone.

The construction trades employed by Legacy were knowledgeable and professional. The Legacy job superintendents were really nice, helpful, and accommodating. They did everything they could to cause us as little inconvenience as possible. We did experience some frustration with our designer. He really didn't have anything to "design" as we were only replacing what already existed. He lost our designs at one point (we had a meeting with him that day), and our project that should've taken about three weeks took about eight, due to some things that were overlooked in the design phase. On a more positive note, he's a really nice guy, and everything worked out okay.
