We are under a contract. The price is very fair and reasonable. The technicians are very good. We used them last year to put a whole new air conditioner on the roof. We've used them for several years.

I have had maintenance contracts on 2 systems for 3 years. I have been surprised over those years that repairs are almost always recommended on each 6 month visit. Frankly I was growing suspicious. In September the company reported that one air conditioner had a refrigerant restriction and required a $625 repair. As I don't use this unit much I did not repair it. In March when they came out for the service they did not find the restriction on the unit again. Apparently it spontaneously repaired itself. However, on this visit they said one of the units had a fan capacitor below spec and that it should be repaired for $146 or I could have motor failure. Since I had lost confidence in their service I did not do this repair. What I did do was hire another contractor in mid April to do a semi annual maintenance. I did not tell them that I had just had service done. I wanted to find out what they found. They also did not find a refrigerant restriction, nor did they find that the fan capacitor was under spec. What they did find is that both systems were low on refrigerant. In summary, Air Con by J recommended two repairs that were not required and did not diagnose a condition that did require repair. From my perspective, the appear to at a minimum be incompetent and at worst dishonest.
Description of Work: The company performed semi-annual maintenance on my air/furnace units. In addition they recommended repairs on two units.

It's so sad when you trust people and think that they're doing right by you to find out they're not. This is AC by Jay. We've used them for many years to do the bi-annual maintenance work on two homes and my commercial business. They would come to each, go up into the attic and say "everything is fine, we'll see you in six months". One of the homes has a room that gets no air - literally, and we asked our maintenance man "What can we do to get air to this room"? He responded "Nothing. You may want to put in a ceiling fan to help, other than that you have to live with it". Jump ahead 2 years, everything's the same but now I need a new AC system due to age. We called in a few different companies to get some proposals and we were blown away by what we heard. All the other companies said that the reason there's no air getting to the front room is because there's a kink in the duct and many air leaks throughout. "Can it be fixed"? "Yes, we need to put in a new plenum and it will be fine". We called our company, AC by Jay and they had nothing to say.. Really what could they say? Sorry would be a good start, how can we make this right? But we didn't get any of that they tried to say it was our fault because nobody noted that we were having problems on our account. Don't get me started - Even if I never mentioned that I don't get any air in the front room they should have said "hey you've got a kink and leaks in your system which may be decreasing your air to the front room". Makes sense since this is why you pay for maintenance. The topper to all of it; So AC by Jay suggested that we put up a ceiling fan. The room didn't have an outlet to do so and we had to call an electrician to come out and install one for us. That cost us $500 and then the fan was another $250. Now we find out from all these other companies that having a fan does not help the situation, if anything it makes the room hotter because it's using a motor. It's exactly what you don't want to do! Bottom line: AC by Jay has not only taken money from us when they didn't provide the service but they cost me even more money ($750) because they advised me to get the fan that ultimately was adding to the problem. We still have not heard anything from AC by Jay.

We have a contract with them and they come out twice a year to check our air conditioning system. They are very nice and honest people. They are very reliable and they come out immediately when we call them. Once we had a problem with our AC and they showed up on the same day that we called them. They give us the reminder calls once the appointment is scheduled. Their prices are comparable with the other companies here. They are very responsive, very quick and very helpful. They show up on time and they were very professional.

The installers were punctual and aside from some minor issues on installation, they did a great job. I have had them back a couple of times for service and maintenance, and both times the customer service and technicians were exceptionally communicative, punctual and informative. The company would have gotten an "A" but the sales process could have been better.

I called him up an I asked if they could send somebody out. I told them I have home insurance. I said could you make the diagnosis and call my home insurance. They said absolutely not. I said I will pay you if you will do that for me. He said we don't deal with that and he walked out. He didn't even look at my air conditioning unit.

When we were presented an invoice there was the $89 charge we were told about, PLUS $60,00 for a "Unit electrical inspection". Sorry "Jay" but that's part of diagnosing the problem. Turns out the breaker was tripped. For flipping a switch and tightening two screws on the beaker we were charged an additional $60.00.
Description of Work: Arrived 3 hours late to "trouble shoot the unit". It was explained to us that the charge would be $89 for the tech to diagnose the problem and that repairs were extra. A bit high but we said to come ahead.

I HAVE LOOKED INTO YOUR SVC CALL AND FOUND THAT UPON THE INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC ($89.00) WE FOUND A TRIPPED BREAKER. WE THEN PROCEEDED TO TIGHTEN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AT THE BREAKER ITSELF, WHICH ENTAILS REMOVING THE SVC ENTRANCE PANEL TO ACCESS, WE TIGHTENED THE CONNECTIONS AT THE UNIT DISCONNECT; WE ALSO TIGHTENED THE CONNECTIONS AT THE CONTACTOR. WE THEN USED A MEG OHM METER (A TOOL MOST COMPANIES DO NOT USE) TO CHECK THE COMPRESSOR WINDINGS, AND THE CONDENSER FAN MOTOR WINDINGS AND THEY SHOWED GOOD. WE THEN RAN THE UNIT AND CHECKED AMP DRAWS ON THE COMPRESSOR AND CONDENSER FAN MOTOR. WE ALSO CHECKED REFRIGERANT PRESSURES INCLUDING SUPERHEAT AND SUB COOLING TO ASSURE PROPER OPERATION. THE ADDITIONAL $60.00 WAS FOR A LOT MORE THAN "TIGHTENING 2 SCREWS" IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, THE COST INVOLVED TO HAVE A HIGHLY TRAINED NATE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN COME TO YOUR HOME AND FIND THE PROBLEM, AND THEN TO TAKE ALL THE STEPS TO ASSURE THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN, IS MUCH MORE THAN AN $89.00 VALUE. THE INITIAL $89.00 BARELY COVERS THE COST TO FIND WHAT IS WRONG, ANY STEPS TAKEN AFTER THE INITIAL DETERMINATION OF THE PROBLEM IS IN FACT A REPAIR. I APOLOGIZE IF YOU FEEL YOU WERE "SCREWED" BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT OUR TECH WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT MOST TECHS IN THE VALLEY DO TO MAKE SURE YOUR SYSTEM IS OPERATING IN THE MOST EFFICIENT MANNER POSSIBLE. Summary: Rip-off prices, lousy follow-through. Detail: Called to have an AC fan fixed - problem was obvious, screeching fan bearing was a dead giveaway, and once it died that evening I took the fan off and confirmed the bearing was locked. Called on a Sunday at 7:08pm - not really expecting to get anyone out that evening, but hoping to talk to a tech. Representative paged a tech and promised a call-back in 15 minutes. No call. Called back at 7:54pm - representative promised a call back - just 15 more minutes. No call back (ever). Chalked up to lousy phone service, but called the next morning anyway. Rep promised person by 3:00 and they did arrive about that time. They took off the top an confirmed the motor was shot. Price for that analysis - $89. Asked for cost to replace - $550!!! Not including service call!!! Mind you, I looked up the cost to purchase the fan online - total cost for replacement motor, capacitor, and capacitor mount is less than 220 (retail). Three hundred thirty dollar premium for mounting a fan. No thanks. I then called another firm, who agreed to install for $400, and after talking to their tech, they waived service call charge. No way I'll ever use Jay.
Description of Work: Service call to check an AC problem, have an external blower fan replaced in a 12 yr old Carrier AC unit. Decided against using them due to poor price.

Our service technician, Kevin, was excellent! He took the time to explain exactly what he was doing and why. He then recommended fixes and broke it down into what really needed to be done, what could wait, and what was optional. My 2 little boys were very interested in his work and he was wonderful - taking the time to tell them what he was doing and answering questions. Our home was his last call of the day - but with his patient and friendly demeanor you would never know it. We were so pleased with the outstanding service and would absolutely recommend Kevin and Air Conditioning by Jay.

Excellent!!! Professionalism throughout entire process from working with sales personnel through installation. The crew arrived on time, and introduced themselves. They wore surgical type boots before entering our home and completely covered all areas before starting work. They reviewed the scope of work before starting to be verify that it was consistent with proposal. The work was completed in about 6 hours and they reviewed the work with us upon completion. We screened several HVAC contractors before selecting this company and they really understand the meaning of the importance of providing great customer service and attention to detail. Would highly recommend them to anyone who needs this type of work performed - or for routine service.
Description of Work: Air Conditioning by Jay replaced our two (2) existing 15 year split zone heat pumps with new Amana 14 SEER Units. The work consisted of removing the existing units, modification of some ductwork to improve efficiencies and installation of the new units, including new T Stats, and system start up and testing.

The day that I called they were willing to come out that day. My tenant was unavailable, they came out 12/05/07 and my tenant raved about the company and employee.
Description of Work: Tenant was not getting heat and he connected a wire that had come undone. That's all I know.

I was disappoint with the first tech. I think they should have sent out a senior tech in the first place. They were quick to come on the same day as I called.
Description of Work: Jason came out both times to service our a/c. It had totally quit and they came the same day to make the repair. He put in a transformer for $263.58 but that did not fix the problem. The unit quit working after he left. The second trip he installed a low voltage fuse for $30 and fixed low voltage and short for $100 and the service charge was $89 and that didn't work either. The third time they came out I had a senior tech. He fixed the problem with no extra charge.

Super quick response to visit to give estimate. Representative was very knowledgeable and courteous. Representative was very good about following up with me to see if I was interested in having them do the work. Unfortunately, the estimate was highest of all who responded.
Description of Work: Request an estimate to replace an existing Roof Top all-in-one Air Conditioner and Heater 3 1/2 ton unit. It was for the house of my elderly mother and I had to handle it remotely from out of state, so extra effort for me to select the right contractor.

Compressor and fan stopped working on Friday night. Called previous repair service and after no return calls, called several more on Saturday morning before I signed up for Angie's List as nobody was able to come out. Found "Air Conditioning by Jay" close to my area on Angie's List with good comments and score. Called and Jennifer said that they could have someone out within 2 hrs (at weekend rates which I expected). She called back within 10 minutes and said a technician was on his way who just finished another job. Within 15 minutes Philip was at my house! Immediately diagnosed the problem as a blown capacitor, replaced the parts, checked coolant levels, washed some dirt out of the unit and we were back to normal. Philip was a well trained serviceman with a positive professional attitude. This was a great first time Angie's List experience. Highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: A/C compressor and fan stopped working. Diagnosed problem right away as a bad capacitor. Replaced capacitors and started cooling.

Technician was obviously not well-trained. We also felt the company thought we would pay anything to fix the A/C as it was a 100 degrees.
Description of Work: A/C stopped cooling on a Sunday and A/C by Jay was able to send out a technician by the name of Philip B. He diagnosed the problem as "unit has a liquid line restriction at the metering devise." He advised us it could run up-wards of $1000+ to fix. We turned him down and paid a $135 service call fee. We called another company which also came out right away. Our A/C unit simply had a leak which required a small replacement part. They ordered the part over-night and came back out the next day to install. Our A/C is cooling beautifully.

I got on Angie's List and read a few different reports. I chose Jay's because it was close, and they had good ratings and a 24 hour service. I called around 6:30 at night and a tech called me to set up an appt. the next day. (I did not use the emergency service.) Dave # 316 came out early in the time window set up and went to check the unit. He came back down and informed me of the problem, what would need to be done and how much it would cost. He suggested a service agreement and explained a savings when I signed up. Dave was very professional and polite all the time. I know he checked over the unit and fixed another issue on it, but it did not change the cost of the bill. He kept me informed of what he was doing, and asked permission to go upstairs etc. He was really nice.
Description of Work: Our A/C unit quit supplying cool air and kept running because it couldn't reach the temp on the thermostat.
