Description of Work: Mcfarland did a good job cleaning our Oriental Rug. Did have an unexpected surprise in that they needed to replace the backing on the carpet at extra charge. They said this was common with Oriental rugs.

Description of Work: Cleaned several (2 large and 2 small) oriental rugs. Made some minor repairs on a couple of them. |Essentially, my experience was less than favorable. First of all, it took almost a month to get 4 rugs cleaned with a couple minor repairs. Secondly, the cost was significant, but because of some recommendations on your site and the rating, I decided to go ahead. But since they also charged a signficant pickup and delivery fee, I decided to bring them in myself. Upon doing this, I was hesitant to even go ahead with the deal since the facility is in a very "iffy" part of town and looks very old and run down. In addition, I watched how and where they clean these rugs which again was unimpressive. Essentially, they do this in a big, dark area with somewhat of a pressure washer and I'm assuming some type of cleaning fluid. The rugs become soaked, and then they hang them to dry for several days or more. Then they roll them up, wrap them in plastic, and set them on a shelf. There were virtually hundreds of rugs waiting to be picked up. I just had the feeling that this seemed like a very "low tech" way to do this, but I still went ahead since I had no better, faster alternative. Furthermore, upon asking if the rugs were insured against loss or damage while in their possession, they said only to the value of the cleaning estimate. This was bothersome since a couple of these had some significant value. I indicated that I needed these back by a certain date bcz of some company that was arriving, and they said that should be no problem. However, when I called to pick them up, they said they were not done yet, and I would have to wait another week to 10 days. When I finally picked them up and laid them out in my home, they looked and smelled somewhat clean but not exceptional. For the cost, convenience, time, etc., I will look elsewhere the next time.

Description of Work: We had a Pakistani make 5'x 8' Isfahan style carpet cleaned by MacFarland. |The carpet was purchased in 1983 in Saudi Arabia. Since purchase we had only shaken and vacuumed the carpet. When I picked the carpet up it looked brand new, the fringe was once again snow white and all the colors just popped like it was brand new. We couldn't be happier with the service, plan to deliver several more carpets after our 4th of July gathering.

+ 1 moreWe dropped the rugs off at the store on 24th Street where the rep took a close look at each rug, recommended the fringe repairs on the largest rug, gave a price estimate for the total job, and told us when they would be ready for pick-up (2 weeks). Everything was up-front, the job was done well (rugs nicely cleaned, repairs made, no damage done to rugs), and the time was as expected. It seemed a bit expensive to me but I've not had such expensive rugs cleaned before (we got them 2 years ago) so I had no frame of reference for the cost of such a service. From what I could gather if you take expensive rugs to your neighborhood dry cleaners they will out-source the job to McFarlands anyway with considerable mark-up so I'm guessing it was the cheapest alternative to getting expensive rugs professionally cleaned by a reputable service provider. I'd definitely recommend them to others, and I'll definitely use them again when needed.
Description of Work: We had 5 expensive oriental rugs cleaned: 2 large area rugs, one hallway runner, and two smaller throw rugs. They also did some minor repairs on the fringe of the largest area rug.

+ -1 moreMcFarland's did amazing work with several oriental rugs that where stained with dog urine - I wasn't sure the rugs could be salvaged, but they came out looking great, with no evidence of the stains!! Also, we had a large order (6 rugs, 3 of which were large floor rugs) and McFarland's cleaned and rolled them within a week to meet our needs.
Description of Work: Cleaned 6 floor rugs, including several that were stained with dog urine.

I was having problems with some other folks about not getting a call back in time and not able to schedule the work in a timely manner. These people were very timely. I will use their services again in the future.

+ 0 moreTheir facility, on 24th St & Taylor (2 blocks north of Van Buren) in Phoenix is a little hard to find. It's tiny, but if you watch carefully, you can see their sign (more easily if you're northbound). The staff there were all very busy, but friendly, attentive and nice. My two area rugs were unrolled in the parking lot, measured, and a price was given for the cleaning. I thought the price was very reasonable, and was told the work would be completed in about 2 weeks. I was in no rush to get these back, so didn't pay much attention to how long it took, but it seemed reasonable when I got a call telling me they were ready for pickup. Pickup was a cinch, and the plastic wrapped rugs were carried and loaded into my car. This is clearly a family owned and operated business, with a good deal of experience in their field! Mine were non-color-fast rugs made in China, probably out of inferior materials, but they came out as clean and nicely prepped as I could have hoped! Some stains remain, and I thought they might have called those to my attention when the job was done, but they are barely noticeable, and I am not surprised that they are still there, given the nature of the material. This is a great company to deal with, and I'd definitely do business with them again (though I don't have any more area rugs that need cleaning). Check out their website. It's very well put together and informative!

+ -1 moreWe just had high quality carpet installed in our home and had two large remnants left over - one about 5' x 7' and the other 6' x 8'. I wanted to have them bound and made into area rugs. The only place I could find to do the work was McFarland's. If I had brought them down earlier in the day, they said I could have just waited for them to be done. They charge $1.75 per linear foot at this time. The quality was great. They cut the pieces into perfect rectangles and asked it I wanted them as big as possible or cut to a standard size.
Description of Work: Two large carpet remnants were bound to make area rugs. - one about 5' x 7' and the other 6' x 8'. .

The man who checked me in knew exactly where every carpet was from and what kind of dyes were in it. He knew if it was antique or fake antique and knew how to treat them. He uses water and does not dry clean.

Description of Work: I dropped off two small oriental rugs (2x3 and just over 2x6) at their location for cleaning, was given a price, and asked if I'd like them back before Xmas. I said yes, and they said they'd do what they could. One had a dark spot from water damage. The people were very nice and professional. I had never used them before and was testing their service and quality.

+ -1 moreWhen I dropped off my rug, the repair person examined the loose overcasting on the side of my oriental carpet. She was knowledgable and provided good guidance on the repair as well as other areas of the rug that could be reinforced. After receiving the reasonable quote for repair and cleaning, I left the rug with them for service. The service took closer to a month to complete, rather than the 1.5 to 2 weeks quoted. However the results were excellent. I would recommend McFarlands for repair and cleaning of fine handmade oriental rugs.

+ -1 moreThe company has a very nice website, which included an offer to give a verbal quote on oriental and Persian rug hand washing. I called for an estimate, and the fellow answering the phone was not particularly cordial. Since their hand wash process was what I was seeking for my rugs, I tried an email follow-up. Jim responded to the email with a cordial return call, after a delay. Based on this, I decided I would check out the facility and decide whether to drop off the rugs. The facility is not in the best part of town, and the plant is not glamorous. However, they do use a correct hand wash and dry process for wool oriental rugs. Jim was just as cordial in person as on the phone. Based on this, I left my two pieces for cleaning. As an aside, the actual quote and the phone quote from the grumpy fellow from the first call did not match. The time to clean the two rugs was an estimated 2 weeks. The pieces were actually cleaned and ready to pick up in about a week. The staff was kind enough to help load the rugs in my car, and the price was as quoted. When I returned home and looked at the results, I was very pleased with the cleaning. The rugs were very clean, and colors bright. There was no bleeding, and the pile is very soft. Excellent job!

I WAS ESPECIALLY CONCERNED ABOUT ONE SIDE OF THE RUG THAT WAS MORE SOILED BECAUSE OF MORE TRAFFIC BUT THEY CLEANED IT SO BEAUTIFULLY THAT IT LOOKED BRAND NEW WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED WITHOUT ANY NOTICE OF IMBALANCE IN WEAR. I AM RELIEVED TO KNOW THAT THERE IS SUCH A FINE QUALITY RUG CLEANER AVAILABLE IN TOWN BECAUSE I HAD PAID A LOT FOR THE RUG AND WAS WORRIED ABOUT IT.
